Ebtech HE-2 XLR 2-channel Stereo Hum Eliminator with XLR Reviews

Stereo Hum Eliminator with XLR and TRS I/O

Ground loops and unbalanced signals create noise in recording mixers, keyboards, guitars, power amps, live sound, and DJ systems. No one is immune to hum, no matter how good your rig is, so when hum occurs, you need the right tool to quickly and easily get rid of it. The HE-2 Hum Eliminator does away with system noise and ground loops quickly and easily. Extremely high-quality transformers isolate circuits, keeping grounds intact while breaking troublesome loops and balancing unbalanced gear. Since it's totally passive, it injects absolutely no noise into the signal. The 1/4" TRS and XLR in and out jacks make it easy to connect.

Clean signal

By Sweetwater Customer on July 2, 2019

I used this between a home model digital piano and my control surface. I love the piano action and sounds and wanted to use it in the studio, but the signal had a low level hum. Ebtech's Hum Eliminator killed the hum like a boss, without losing any signal strength! Highly recommend!

Must have for reamping

By Sweetwater Customer on February 19, 2019

I was plagued by a noisy reamp path. This wasn"t typical mains or amp hum. It was digital noise from my computer. However, it only occurred when I plugged in the redeye to the interface.

I was out of ideas so I took a gamble on this unit. I put it between my interface and reamp unit. It"s now just as quiet as when I plug my guitar in directly.

My New "Save The Sound" Weapon

By James Walker from Napa, CA on July 11, 2018

I finally have a reliable way to squash ground problems. My only regret is not getting this sooner. Most often its about electronic units that don't play well together. Nobody cares why - just that the noise stops and its my fault. Between this and the Ebtech AC box I can get it resolved before the sound man starts nicely lecturing me on what is wrong with my gear.

Magic

Very loud noise floor coming out of "guitar out" when re-amping with Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt. Tried several ground loop remedies to no avail. Bought this 100 buck box and with 2 TRS cables the hum is 90% gone. Magic, it works! Very pleased. I now have very usable re-amp tracks to use with UA Ox Box...also superb! And in theory, this box does not lift grounds which can be dangerous. No power supply needed. Magic box for studio or live. (Remember, it does NOT solve single coil guitar noise). Hope this helps...

It works

By Carlos from Michigan on March 19, 2018 Music Background: Home projects

I traded in my previous Yamaha monitors that had a hum for the latest Yamaha monitors that came with a loud hum. I had the house electrical ground check. No change. But this little box solved my problem. If I put my ear next to the monitor, I can hear a faint hum. It works for me.

Perfect Solution

By Clifford T. from Tuscaloosa, AL on January 4, 2018 Music Background: Hobbyist / Semi-Pro Lead Guitarist, Country / Blues / Alt. Rock, 30 Yrs.

As others have said, this is specifically useful in the right situation. That being said, here is a scenario where this device paid off. I use a TC Helicon Voicelive for vocal harmonies. My guitar runs through a buffered splitter with one out to the Voicelive and the other to my Mesa Triple Crown. Whenever I would connect the mic out of the Voicelive or the cab clone out of the Mesa to the mixer, my amp would get an incredibly loud hum. Lifting the ground did not help. By placing this in the signal path between my Voicelive and mixer / Mesa cab clone DI and mixer, the hum was COMPLETELY gone. Problem solved. Very pleased with this purchase.

HE-2 XLR

Works great ! Hum eliminated !!!!

It absolutely works as advertised

By Rodney F from Jackson, MS USA on February 3, 2012 Music Background: Recording/gigging Musician, amp builder, electronic tech, live sound

I purchased the Ebtech HE-2 XLR mainly to isolate the ground in my stereo tube amp setup. Without the hum eliminator on of the amps would always experience the annoying 60 cycle hum. Ground issues are always intertwining to isolate, and it turns out that I only needed to isolate one channel of the 2 amp setup (oddly the amp that DIDN'T hum) to resolve the issue. That left me with one unused channel for other hum issues. This box is worth the price just to have glorious silence as a blank tonal palate for ones guitar, keyboard, powered mixer, subs etc.
I'm also a small gig sound-man so I'll be using the HE-2 XLR for many hum isolation issues in the future. This is my first Ebtech product so I can't speak to longevity, but as an amp and effects builder myself I must say this little box seems rather bulletproof. As always, my Sweetwater sales staff, Brad, made excellent recommendations. Problem solved.

Surprised

By P.Moe from Evansville In on May 19, 2018 Music Background: Musician , dj

Yep it really works for combating dirty power and noisy eq's. I installed it between the rack gear and active subs and monitors. I was skeptical at first and yep it works, still have slight hiss but no annoying hum. Thanks again Chris!

Great build and does the job!

Use these for our church to get rid of some hum in our main speakers as well as monitor chains. They do the job and built like a tank!

Just insert it where the hum is and...silence. Buy several. You can never have too many of these things.

Got the job done.

By Sweetwater Customer from Los Angeles , CA area on July 14, 2011 Music Background: dance band keyboard player

I had a fairly loud low frequency hum when using a voicelive touch running through a snake to a pa mixing board. The voicelive was midi controlled by a Roland Fantom. Putting this Ebtech HE-2XLR between the module and the snake going to the mixer pretty much got rid of the hum.

Great Purchase

By Silent Alwayz from PHX, AZ on June 30, 2011 Music Background: Hip-Hop Producer

This thing rocks! I purchased it because I record vocals at my home studio and I had this nasty hum around 60hz. I did a little research and found that it was most likely a grounding issue. I got tired of messing around with differant plug-ins trying to remove the sound, so I killed it at the source. Very straight forward and durable, feels like this thing will last forever. Signal path is very clear and my signal is now very usable. Still some hum at high levels, but you shouldnt really have to boost the signal too much if your using a good mic.

Works, Kinda

By Mike from Topeka Kansas on May 30, 2013

Well, it took the hum away from my setup, but not from my lead guitarist. His hum was still there. I have a Tuner Pedal that when I plug a power cable into it it adds a hum. The Ebtech removed the hum from it. My lead guitarist has several Boss pedals and one of them a Looper. He tried my HE-2 XLR and it had no effect.

Not very impressed

By Donald Neff from Lehighton, PA USA on October 5, 2012 Music Background: mobile DJ Service

Maybe I was expecting too much. I use a Furman power conditioner and was still experiencing a buzzing or hum in my speakers at times. Even after adding this product, I noticed very little difference. The noise is still there.

It did not solve my issue. Item returned.

Make the noise worse

By Sweetwater Customer on January 12, 2018

I was hoping this would solve my noise issues when I traveled to Europe. My pedals and guitar had such a bad hum. This actually made it worse. So much so that I recorded it and sent to the company.
