Gibson Acoustic Hummingbird Standard Acoustic Guitar - Vintage Sunburst Reviews
Having just rounded the corner on its 61st year, the Gibson Hummingbird continues to soar as one of the most legendary acoustics of all time. The Gibson Hummingbird Standard puts classic tone, playability, and design into your hands. The Standard features a solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides for a stunning blend of punchy treble and midrange from the spruce top, held together with a rich low end from the mahogany back and sides — a tonal presentation that has won over countless rock legends from Keith Richards to Thom Yorke. A rounded "C"-profile neck with rosewood fingerboard offers impeccable playability and response, ideal for strumming big open first-position chords and picking out intricate leads up and down the neck. Also, an onboard LR Baggs VTC pickup system delivers beautiful amplified acoustic tone when you plug in. The many Hummingbird Standard owners here at Sweetwater can attest this is that rare acoustic that truly offers a unique playing experience along with one-of-a-kind tone.

One Beautiful Guitar
This is one beautiful guitar---in looks(wow), tone and playability. Nobody does a sunburst finish better than Gibson! The top is Sitka Spruce(it's not torrified---I would rather have the wood in it's normal state,'as it is'). The warmth in tone spans the whole tonal palette without sacrificing the 'highs'. It can play softly or put out a Rhythm strum like no other! This is a guitar to last a lifetime---in performing, playing at home, the local Open Mic or anywhere that you please! Get a proper setup and enjoy this sweet tonal 'Ride'! There have been many changes(good and bad) over the years of production of this model since it's introduction over 60 years ago; this current model shines like the sun and soars like and eagle. You will not be disappointed.
Hummingbird
Like a D-28 the Hummingbird has a unique sound that is discernable from a block away. If you like the sound you should definitely get one.
This is my desert island guitar.
First off, in person, the vintage burst with the Hummingbird appointments looks so sexy. This guitar is gorgeous. My Hummingbird is about 8 months old now, and if the tone never improves with age, I will always be incredibly happy with how it sounds. Mellow, rich, sweet, unique tone that makes me choose it every morning over my other high end guitars. Sanded the saddle a little and now plays like a dream. Normally I swap out tusq for bone, but not with this baby. I'm not changing a thing. FYI, I've got Elixer Polyweb 80/20 12s on it. I could not imagine my guitar life without this Hummingbird. Should have gotten one a long time ago.
Love it!
Very satisfied with my purchase of the Vintage Hummingbird!
