EarthQuaker Devices Hoof V2 Germanium / Silicon Fuzz Pedal Reviews
The EarthQuaker Devices Hoof V2 fuzz pedal soaks your guitar's tone in beautifully dirty organic fuzz, thanks to its hybrid of germanium and silicon transistors. At Sweetwater, we love how the Hoof combines the best elements of a fuzz effect and overdriven amplifier by delivering a healthy dose of smooth, harmonically rich sustain, along with its distinctive, vintage-style fuzz. Tone and Shift controls provide a massive helping of tone-shaping options — especially in the midrange — delivering everything from classic scooped to modern boosted mids. Complete with true bypass for pure tone, the EarthQuaker Devices Hoof V2 fuzz pedal injects your tone with classic fuzz character!

Very Pleased!
I did not buy this from Sweetwater. but I am a bit of an online window shopping addict so I decided to write about my experience with this pedal to help possible buyers.
I mainly ran this pedal through my bass rig, a Schecter stiletto custom 4 into a Fender Rumble 200. I didn't love the amp sounds so I run through a Helix Stomp for my true amp sounds as well as compression and other effects, keeping the Rumble very basic as far as tone dials. I play in a 4 piece indie rock band with a touch of heavy in a few songs and a tube screamer just wasn't cutting it. I bought this pedal to add something to the rig I didn't have, and here are my findings.
Immediately you realize the thing gets real mean real quick. You can dial back the fuzz knob for a lighter sound, but I love cranking that knob up. What results is a tone that is heavy, thick and loud. Every soundcheck I would check the fuzz tone with, the whole room would immediately turn to see what was making that sound. It let me be super creative with writing as well, as when I first got it I wrote the bassline to one of the songs we had been working on and that changed the entire character of the song, not just the bass part. I'm sure having a metal bass with EMGs helps, but I have never created a tone that can turn heads quite like this pedal can.
I'm a guitar player as well, and I've noticed that pickups make a huge difference. I play an HSS D'angelico and it can't quite get as mean as with my bass, but that's just apples to oranges. 5 stars. Reasonably priced, mean when you want it to be and a wide range of tonal capabilities.
Pretty dam impressive
For the price point and what you get it i think its a fairly decent buy for sure. You can get some varied sounds out of it with the tone knob. has a really nice stoner rock ring to it and overall very pleasant to the ear. Throw on a phaser and you're in business.
Using a tube amp with prs
Boss fuzz
Basically, the best fuzz I've come across so far. Smooth and fuzzy with some cool tone shaping features. A really great fuzz! I'd be surprised if anyone is disappointed by this pedal.
EQD Hoof v2
I love it! I am new to " fuzz" and the amount of available fuzz pedals out there makes choosing one a bit daunting.
I found the Hoof to be immediately intuitive to dial in.
The interaction between the shift and tone control allows you to sculpt your tone to your amp and guitar setup. I find myself being able to easily dial in or out anything I like or do not like.
Big chunka mean-mad
I have very little experience with fuzz pedals. I mostly play acoustic, so when I play electric it's pretty clean. This pedal wants to burn your house down and bury you beneath the rubble. It terrifies me, but it's a lot of fun.
My favorite fuzz pedal
I don't use fuzz often, but it adds a lot to some songs so I've tried a few. Most are too bright or shrill sounding, but not the EQD Hoof. It has become my go-to pedal when I want a touch of fuzz.
Awesome Fuzz
The Hoof, is just what Dr Fuzz ordered. I've had a green Russian Muff, and it was fab! I've the standard Big Muff, just great. However, the Hoof, it's all those, throw in a Tone Bender, and more, and you've got the Hoof. Super versatile, maybe it damages your ears, not sure. Enjoy. . .
Earthquaker Hoof fuzz
Not much of a fuzz fan but dig this pedal. Wide range of tone, easy to dial in, really enjoying it. Only drawback, you can see the operation light from space, absolutely blinding...lol.
Finally; a fuzz I can get down with
I have had a hate/hate relationship trying to find a fuzz. Finally, the Hoof is what I've been looking for. It has a good classic fuzz tone without totally destroying my signal. Even though it is good and fuzzy, it is still articulate. It isn't overly compressed like some I've tried.
Perfect
This is an excellent fuzz because it is so versatile. I'm not a knob tweaker, I usually set and forget, but Earthquaker has me tweaking knobs because their pedals have more than one sound. This one literally has about ten I use on the regular. I'm just now starting to remember where I set the knobs for certain sounds, which is ok, because I find new ones in the process. Great boost pedal. Great for control using your volume knob on the guitar. Great for finding any tone of fuzz from deep and war to shrill rippage that tears the roof off when just a little is added to your metal tone. In short, this thing is huge, usable and indispensable. I love it.
Excellent Standard Fuzz
I consider the Hoof to be the best standard fuzz pedal on the market today. Incredible sound and far more versatile than a Big Muff or Fuzz Face thanks to the Shift knob, which controls the mids. For the most experimental of styles, you may want to look towards an untameable fuzz that self-oscillates. But in most other circumstances, consider the Hoof.
Fuzz Lovers
Love It..if your looking for that green russian kinda sound plus a whole lot more, this is the pedal to buy
More than just a fuzz
I got this pedal for free from a friend... what a steal !!!! Pairs well with my afterneath. But the coolest part about it is that it's not just a fuzz. I use it as a transparent boost for some killer metal tones, by keeping guitar volume low enough it will just act as a boost pedal because you won't clip the diodes. Crank you guitar volume up to 10 an switch to the neck pickup, and the portal to hell opens up with killer doom tones... literally by just moving your volume knob. It sounds super cool especially on leads for a Velcro-ie sound that just RIPS. Awesome pedal, forever in my signal chain.
Great Fuzz Pedal!
After spending a few weeks with the Hoof V2, this fuzz pedal is the one for me. I put some time in researching to get the right fuzz pedal and I kept coming back to the Hoof which sounds good to my ears. There's a lot of pedal choices today but the EarthQuaker Hoof V2 germanium-silicon hybrid circuitry is a winner. Lifetime warranty and built here in USA.
Good fuzz!
Best fuzz out there. Has a tube screamer type of sound but fatter, deeper and better!! It"s fuzz. Real fuzz!!
Awesome Fuzz!!
This is an amazingly versatile fuzz due to the Shift control. You can get the classic Big Muff sound if you want, but it's so much more than that. I kept hearing about how this pedal can really cut through the mix with the Shift control, and they were right. It's amazing.
Full Disclosure: I had to request a replacement pedal because the first one I received had a very loud "white noise" sound. This is not typically of the pedal and the replacement was very quiet.
Really useful box
Needed a fuzz to round out my board. I've tried several of the usual suspects and although they sound cool at home many of them really lacked a lot when I'm playing with my band. Also, I use humbucker guitars and a lot of fuzzes really love single coils but not my guitars. Mostly, because we have two guitar players, most fuzzes seem to disappear in the mix or they have to be so loud as to be annoying.
Enter the Hoof. I run it mostly on its own and it works well for me that way. Between the shift control and the tone control I can dial in a great tone with any pickups and its versatile enough to handle about any fuzz needs I have. Pushing a drive channel on my amp or a drive pedal can be really cool as well. The sounds can get huge.
If you are looking for a buzzsaw or velcro-ripping fuzz, this may not be it, but for a versatile and sweet fuzz with a huge range of smooth tones that works well with single coils or humbuckers this is the best I've found.
Most exciting for me; the shift knob can make it really show up in a mix. Great pedal.
