Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano Reverb Pedal Reviews

Compact Digital Reverb Pedal with Three Algorithms

The Holy Grail Nano is a digital reverb in a compact guitar pedal. Holy Grail Nano contains three different reverb algorithms: Spring, Hall and Flerb. All three algorithms were designed and tailored for the electric guitar but they will work equally as well on most instruments and voices. The Spring algorithm is a re-creation of the classic spring reverbs that are found in many guitar amplifiers. The Hall algorithm is a new, lush reverb. Flerb is a beautiful reverb like nothing you have heard before. Holy Grail Nano will change the way you look at reverb!

Exactly what I was looking for!!

By Todd Tolbert from Alabama on December 13, 2023

I wanted to add some reverb to my small, go pedal rig. I tried a couple other reverb pedals but none felt or sounded right to my ears - except for this one! I honestly never turn it off. In fact I may even move it underneath my pedal board.

Holy grail reverb

Great performance, Electro harmonix pedal works best for me,no need for 9 volt battery.

Simple easy to use reverb pedal

By Sweetwater Customer on April 13, 2022

After going through quite a few reverb pedals, many of which were more expensive, the Holy Grail ended up being the right one for me. Compact size so it doesn't take up too much space on my board, nice sweep with the reverb knob so it is easy to dial in the perfect amount, and the spring and hall have a nice smooth tail and decay. I put it at the end of my chain as an always-on pedal when I'm using a head with no built in reverb. If the amp does have reverb, I'll switch to hall and use it as a more saturated/spacy effect. Nothing too fancy here just a solid pedal that sounds good and is easy to use.

EVH GIUTAR

TIM HOLSINGER IS THE BEST ALONG WITH HIS TEAM MEMBERS THEY ALL WORK TOGETHER. AWESOME GUITAR AND SALE.

Finally have the sounds I've been looking for.

By Sweetwater Customer from Elwood on November 9, 2021 Music Background: Varied, Vocalist from age of 9, Percussionist in School bands and Bassist in early adulthood.

I'm something of a noob and ex Bass player from way back who's now learning (trying) to play electric 6string guitar. After ignoring advice and buying several guitars and Amps looking for a specific sound I have FINALLY found it. I still suck as a guitarist but now I suck with style and tone. I can get a gorgeous hollow warm sound from single coils AND humbuckers. I put the amp on solo and crank up the power through my Yamaha HSH Strat and GOD LORD ALMIGHTY IT'S A MONSTER! I love this pedal! You want quality and versatility then this is money very well spent. It comes with a power supply too. But it, just do it.

Just buy it already..

Look, you think you need a fancy boutique reverb pedal....you don't. Unless you are starting a Ventures tribute band just buy a holy grail. Yes, the flerb is pretty useless, but let's get real...you're gonna set this up the way you like it in about 5 minutes and never touch it again except to turn it on and off. Then you're going to ask yourself how you lived without it. Just buy it. The end.

Great Reverb in a Small Package

I recommend this one with out reservation. I am a spring reverb fan and this one delivers, it will not disappoint.

Great Reverb Pedal

By Michael Lindsey from Vancouver, WA on April 28, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

Works great in the effects loop of my mini dark terror. Sounds amazing, and I love all 3 reverbs as they all sound good. Even the Flerb is fun to mess around with. Great all around reverb pedal.

Perfect for my needs.

By Bob Brancato from Plattsburgh, NY on August 17, 2020 Music Background: Sometimes better than mediocre guitar player.

Needed reverb for a '57 Fender Champ. Exactly what I was looking for at a very reasonable price. The spring reverb was primarily what I was after and it's spot on. I can see myself using the hall setting down the road. Flerb is fun for 2 minutes. ;) Not why I bought the pedal. Great sounding reverb, great price and my other EHX stuff has been bulletproof. what's not to like?

Perfect Spring Reveb

I was looking for just a basic spring reverb to put in the effects loop of my Orange Jim Root Terror. This pedal did the job perfectly

Electro-Harmonics Nanoverb pedal

By Terry Huval from Lafayette, LA on October 19, 2019 Music Background: Cajun

Perfect! It’s easy to use and has excellent sound quality. As good, if not better, than a traditional spring reverb.

Charlie Davis with Sweetwater recommended it to me - and he was right on-point!

"Holy Grail , Batman !"

This unit easily makes your guitar sound like you are in the "BatCave" or just the "BatRoom". Its perfect to add just a touch of Reverb to my jazz rig or full tilt Electro-Pop ! It has a BaJillion settings, thats right, a BaJillion. With its Spring, Hall and Flerb and the Reverb depth dial.. Its soft or hard in your grannies "Ear Candy" dish. I use it with a Washburn Jazz Box and a Fender 1/15 Bass Amp. Love it !

Great pedal, right price

By beast319 from Seattle, WA on March 31, 2010 Music Background: Play for fun

Just got this today and I have to say I'm very surprised. This pedal is more bang for the buck than I ever expected. It's built like a tank, and has a beautiful sound. The Flerb setting is a bit interesting but it's fun to play with. It doesn't have a battery but to me that's okay. The batteries always seem to die quick in my pedals when I don't use the AC adapter. I am afraid I'm going to accidentally hit the little mode switch with my foot and break it off, so you just have to be careful of that. Otherwise, this is a great pedal at a great price.

Holy Grail!

By Donald Dignam from IL on October 27, 2021

This is the perfect solution to my early 50's\60's Amps without Reverb. That being a '63 Gibson GA-5 Skylark and a '51 MASCO(a Champ essentially). I usually play a '52 Blackguard Tele('96).

Spring reverb is authentic sounding, the plate is spot on 50's. The Flerb is useful at 20% or so, makes a cool '70s chorus sound.

Almost bought another period correct reverb amp, but this little critter adds everything I need to my collection.

Truly one of the best reverb pedals out there!

By Matt Campbell from Fort Collins, CO on August 2, 2020 Music Background: 6 years of breaking strings and singing things

So, I've had like five or six of these over the course of my guitar playing career and they've all been great! Every year or so I sell it off to fund a "nicer" reverb pedal (most of the time it's the Strymon Flint) and I'll go a few months with the "nicer" pedal, sell *THAT* off, and go back to the Holy Grail. There seriously isn't a better reverb pedal than this one!

I used to play in an Indie/ Emo/ Math Rock band and my setup was that I'd always have two delays; one modulated that I'd turn on and off depending on the song, and one of these that was always on. (The spring tank in my Twin Reverb at the time was broken.) It's an always on pedal for me!

Now, I will say, the Holy Grail is not without its quirks. Hence the 4.5 star review. Let's just get this out of the way now; the "flerb" setting is absolutely useless. I'm not exactly sure what they were going for there, but it's almost unusable unless you're playing under the influence of some pretty fantastic fungi. Another thing is that I've noticed some inconsistencies in quality here and there. These things are pretty well-known for breaking or wearing out quickly, and I don't totally disagree with that. Often times, the switch pops when you turn it on no matter what kind of power supply its on, and the thing get's weirdly hot when you keep it plugged in. I use a Truetone CS-6 power supply and even the independent power gets this thing pretty toasty.

Overall, this is straight up the best "simple" reverb pedal on the market. Strymons and Eventides are cool if you need a million presets (but I don't). I adore the Hall of Fame and the RV-5 (RIP) as a good modulated reverb for neat-o space sounds (I used to run both the Holy Grail and RV-5 on my old board). But, for simple spring splash and a touch of ambience, this is the way to go for sure! It's a staple on my board (when I'm not wasting my time buying and selling other verbs) and if it's good enough for Nels Cline, Andy Hull, Nick Hamm, and all the other rad Indie/ Emo/ Alt folks who play this pedal, it's good enough for your board!

(Side note: I use this pedal in an Indie/ Alt context. It's really good for literally any genre.)

Holy Grail Nano is simple and effective

By eric harabadian from detroit, michigan on May 10, 2012 Music Background: singer-songwriter/guitarist

The Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano is a digital reverb that is simple, effective and very versatile. There are basically three reverb choices--spring, hall and their own creation called flerb. The spring and hall are pretty traditional and very natural sounding. The flerb feature is unique in that it blends a flanging effect with reverb for some cool ethereal, atmospheric and nice complements, particularly when in the clean channel. Each type of reverb can be dialed in manually on the spot and there are wide parameters to choose from when increasing or decreasing effects levels. Also, it's very quiet and constructed really well.

Excellent reverb pedal

By Sweetwater Customer on June 3, 2014

Exactly as described. Easy to use, excellent reverb quality, sturdily built.

Another Great E-H Pedal

By Bill in San Diego from National City, CA USA on February 27, 2014 Music Background: Part Time Musician

Haven't had to use a reverb pedal in 15 years due to having spring verbs in my amps. Gotta new small amp w/o verb so I got a Holy Grail pedal. The spring setting works great between 8:00 and 11:00 on the reverb knob for old rock, blues and country -- 12:00 and above and you're in surf city. Haven't really used the hall setting but it sounds clean and open -- probably good for slow sustained leads. Tried the flerb setting on 2 slow tunes using a Tele & Jazzmaster (both p/u's on each) and it enhanced the sound. Looking forward to exploring that further. A well made pedal that more than met my expectations.

Cheap switch

By Ean from Nashville on November 5, 2020 Music Background: Audio engineer

The switch is cheap I feel it breaking! I thing it's gonna get stuck on flerb mode soon

Good Sound. Not Crazy About That Switch, Though...

By Pierce from Denver, CO on July 27, 2014

So the size of the box is great, the sounds it makes are fantastic, but within six months or so of using it regularly, the little switch stopped working. Like, it wouldn't click into place anymore. Which means it's stuck on the flerb setting. Now, I'm not sure if this was user error, as in if I stepped right on the little guy or something, but it's basically useless to me now. Which blows, cus it is a nice pedal and it does make nice noises. I'd say spend an extra $20 or whatever on the Holy Grail Plus for better overall tone control and the reliability of knobs over tiny switches.
