Great Acoustic Amp

By Brian M. from FREDONIA, NY

I've had all sorts of acoustic amps, from Taylor to Fishman to Fender to Boss. I can't sing very well and I need help to sound presentable - so I always needed some pedals. This amp sounds as good as any of the others (better than the Fender) and has everything I need built in. No need to bend over to mess with pedals anymore. Plus when not playing or singing, it is 100% quiet - like a good amp should be but sometimes isn't. I don't need a lot of power but went with the 100W versus the 60W for the sake of the larger speaker and am happy with my choice. I get that it is made in China but the build quality seems really good to me and it just feels like a well made, solid amp. The tone is great, the controls are intuitive and the price was reasonable. I am probably getting to the point where any disappointment I have with the tone is on me and not the rig. So, sorry Sweetwater but I think I am done buying acoustic amps for a while. As always, the guys at Sweetwater were super and thanks to Will for all of his help.

Audition in a larger space

By Robert S. from Highland, MI

Sounds better and more accurate in my living room than in the small demo rooms

By contrast, the Fishman Loudbox sounded better in the small demo room

Awesome

By David M. from Texas
Music Background: I play rhythm guitar at regular gigs.

This is the best amp I have ever used. it is solid through and through. I especially like the pitch correction, which I need, and the harmony selection all in one amp. No more special pedals to use and bulk up everything. My Fender Highway series guitar sounds great coming out of this amp. You can tell it is quality. It is a small amp but the weight tells you it is solid. I use a mic in front of the amp and send it to the PA. I could not get this great sound directly from the PA. I would highly recommend this amp.

TC Harmony V100

By Holden B. from Jefferson, NC
Music Background: 30 year gigging vocal/acoustic guitarist

Having owned the Voicelive 2, 3 and extreme from the beginning, I was aware how great the harmonies and acoustic guitar sounded along with the 2 track looper on board. But to setup and rehearse required an amp to play thru connecting to the VL3. Or to capture an idea was difficult with all that was involved. Now the V100 has all that in 1 package. Great acoustic guitar presets and input, vocals and harmonies separate channel input and onboard 1 track looper with overdubs. And the V100 comes with a 4 pedal controller to spontaneously capture the floating idea in your head while delivering a great sound thru the amp. Not to mention the V100 will allow you to do a small gig without bring all the heavy guns. A+++

I love this amp but there is a problem.

By Jim from Young
Music Background: Singer songwriter, Guitar, drums, vocals for many decades.

For singer songwriter stuff this amp is near perfect, with one big but! The big but is that when hard strumming intermittently there is a loud pop/bang gun shot like sound that happens. I have tried literally over ten different brands and pick up configurations from Martin , Gibson, Taylor, Tak, and Bedell and Everett's and the same thing occurs especially after a good warm up period. Thinking that this must be a fluke, I ordered a second amp, and unfortunately a fluke it is not. Talked to the Sweetwater rep and he wanted to go through tech service and a bunch of other crap even though I specifically told him the whole, "Dude! Both amps do the same exploding gunshot sound thing!"

So, when it is not scaring the crap out of me and giving me PTSD, I love the sounds and features of this anp. I will never play out live in public with it due to the "issue." I hope one day they will address/ admit/ fix it, after all I was on the waiting list for about 8 months for these.

Great but no customer service from TC Helicon

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a good product as long as you don't need a warranty service. Sweetwater offers amazing warranty service, but once that is done, the product is destined for junkyard. TC Helicon touts on its website three year warranty, but their no-customer service will have you pulling your hairs. There is no customer service phone number. Any request for warranty or support, you create a ticket and wait for ages for someone to respond.

If you buy, understand that there is no warranty beyond what Sweetwater offers.

Do yourself a favor and don't ignore this...

By John D. from McGaheysville, VA
Music Background: Professional Musician

There is another review of this amplifier where the reviewer mentions a loud, intermittent sound that was here before my purchase, but I determined that particular low rating was likely a one-off situation and I rolled the dice. At first I was pleased with all the amp function etc. st home and felt good about the purchase. I as well purchased this amp for on-stage monitoring to a larger system for a 5-piece band. In that scenario, with carefully adjusted settings and double-checked cables etc, I experienced (quite embarrassingly in front of a crowd of about 250 people I'll add) the exact same harsh, enormously violent sound from this amp while performing on my Washburn (under-saddle with an upgraded Fishman "Presys Blend" on board system) acoustic guitar. I had to shut it down for fear of repeating the situation, because it was that horrid a sound. My band was being mixed by an engineer that night and I wasn't sure WHAT honestly had happened. So I tried it again at my next show with my system, again set very carefully where my guitar was concerned. About 2/3's of the way through the second set after I was ready to blame the previous show, it happened again. At this time I was able to understand definitely that it was the amp's interaction with my guitar causing it. I am a relatively percussive acoustic player, but not in a rhythm-smacking-on-the-body style or anything. I'm just a bit heavy-handed and have a "thwackier" finger picking style on certain of our own tunes. I sat down with this amp after all this and was able to discern and repeat the issue where, without any clipping warnings etc from crazy gain levels, or any perceived feedback situations being perceived by the in-amp system lights, just about any snapping picking on the bass end of an acoustic guitar can cause this awful rejection noise from this amp. It sounds like some sort of limiter in the device freaking out, like an envelope filter warping like you rolled the gain up on an electric and smacked strings as hard as possible. Through my rep and the tech department, Sweetwater was forthright and expedient in resolving the matter with me, they are always great to work with through any issue I've ever had.

I returned this amp afap because it has a flawed design. I know most of the time you read a review that says something like that it's to be seen at face value, but don't do like I did and not take this seriously. A professional performer cannot and should not trust this device. I feel fairly certain the issue is some sort of safety incorporated in the processing of the amp purposefully and I'm telling you, if you play any particular style of acoustic guitar like you have a soul and where you need to hear yourself above other performers in a group, take a solid pass on this amp. The body rez features are great, the effects are tasteful, the vocal channel's bells and whistles are subtle and usable, the quality of the build is great (except for the integrated handle which has such a slim inner handle depth for your fingers that it's baffling what TC was thinking), and the looper functions etc with the footpedal are all pretty solid...

All of which is utterly meaningless once you realize the amp also has a built in response failure that will ruin a performance all night long.

If you play in a group that gets anywhere CLOSE to a mid-sized hall--the answer is definitely move on, friends.

Good (expensive) practice tool

By Sweetwater Customer

A lot of useful practice tools, but my guitar sounds better out of my Bose Tonematch with Compact or Model II. Taylor 710 ce (Fishman) and Godin with GP-10. DI on vocal channel seems to lack output power and sound very artificial.

vocals are incredible, but.......

By Jim Y. from Central GA
Music Background: closet singer songwriter/ General Ham! Guitar, Drums, Vocals.

I love this little amp. the vocals are incredible, But Houston we have a problem on the guitar side! The body res features are super cool, as are most of the features on the guitar side. However, when using guitars with an under saddle piezo pickup I intermittently get a very load explosive sound, almost like a gun firing. While intermittent it is frequent, unsettling, and disappointing. And here the thing, I have two of these amps and they both do the same thing with the undersadle pickups. I am one of those who have 40 guitars and ten amps, so believe me I have tried various configurations with cheap guitars and budget breaker production guitars and all end with the same result.

The only guitar that does not create that popping sound has a fishman soundhole humbuker pickup, which is an Everett boutique jumbo made by an incredible luthier in Atlanta. The Gibson J200 and J45, the Martin GPC-28CE, Taylor 615, and many Taks all end up making that shotgun KAPOW sound when playing. I called my Sweetwater sales guy Chris, and reported it, but from talking with him it was apparent that sending them back was going to be a time and soul sucking experience, so Now I play simply the one guitar when using thes amps.

An acousyic amplifier OR a funny "power plant" ??

By Zbigniew S. from Poland
Music Background: Singer songwriter guitarist and a luthier

I have had no opportunity to read all spects for V100 so I am referring to model 60. I opened my eyes wide when I found its power consumption is....35 Watts for... a 60 Watts RMS output ? . If you know what I am talking about a D class power section at best can be 90% efficent what makes this amp to be in fact circa 28Watts BUT NOT a 60 Watts. I just have at hand a Behringer Eurolive B 205 D close field stage monitor, just have a look at its back and it consumes 190 Watts for (theoretical) 150 Watts RMS so the power supply needs at least 25% more juice than its power otput. I also found out that it has become a custom to install 4 ohm speakers instead of 8 ohms what used to be a standard. 8 ohms regular speaker allowed for parallel extension on stage to gain more coverage. With a 4 ohms there is no such option. I suspect they boosts power advertised specs by installing speakers of lesser impedance. Where are those good times you could read distortion data not only for -20 dB but for 0 dB It is so clever to sell a 60 watts lower model with an 8 ohm speaker and more expensive 100 watts model just by replacing the speaker for a 4 ohm driver. One is lucky if they offer a speaker next step larger. (10 inch for 8 inch) So I have suspended my interest to buy it because someone is testing my itelligence.

Hmmm, expected more:

By Lynn R. from Washington
Music Background: Solo acoustic guitar player with over 50 years experience writing and playing.

I expected more. It is not loud enough. When I try to get everything going with a higher volume, I end up with a bit of mic/pickup feedback. I play a D35 and d28 12 string with Seymore Duncan XL pickups. The mic I use is a Sennheiser e 945. The amp works well at lower volume but turn it up and things (not too good) start to happen. It looks like the amp will stay home and not make it to any gigs. The looper works well and the harmony is interesting. It maybe a good amp for in house recording. For gigs, I guess a Fender or Fishman is more in line. I might even try a Boss to still have the on board looper and harmony.
I do like the look and feel of the amp.

Good all in one solution for solo guitar & vocals

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Gigging Musician

With some reasonable expectations, this amp is a good all in one flexible option for solo gigs. I use all of the effects and features very sparingly and still get a nice blend of tones. The guitar channel features and controls are adequate to get good sounds. I found the type of pickup you have makes a big difference. My Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic works really good through this amp.

The amp has enough volume and projection for a small venue but really works best for me as a monitor with lines out to a pole mounted EV powered speaker. The speaker gives a little more EQ capability and all the volume I would need for larger places. I'll place the amp to the side on an amp stand and adjust the volume for monitoring. Even with the powered speaker it still makes for a compact setup. My old rig was a Genzler Acoustic Array Pro with a too many pedals and routine issues with feedback (no feedback issues yet with the V100). I will say the Genzler does sound better as a stand alone amp but this V100 gets pretty close and is way more flexible and convenient (and about half the price).

My only real concern, as with all new products, is the overall reliability that remains to be determined.

Lot of amp

By john from near Tampa, Fl
Music Background: music degree, local club covers, senior residences, music programmer

I haven't had much time with the amp yet. It definitely has plenty of power for small venues. I mainly got it for the harmony function and it works well for that. I like the separate effects for each channel. there is a separate line out for each channel which I would like a master line out for both channels as well. This amp is very flexible and it's nice to have it as an input with two channels via usb.

Just OK

By John from NH
Music Background: Full timer

Last night on my gig, the pedal that comes with it malfunctioned. The Harmony button became interchanged with the vocal effects button. I also found out that the amp sounds a lot better if you shut off the tweeter. My Fender acoustasonic amp sounds better, warmer. The draw to this amp was the built in harmony, and if you don't care about that, or the looper, which I don't use, buy the Fender.

Just what I needed!

By Jason E. from OH

Great sounding amp and it sounds great when you crank it up too. Plenty loud! I like the simplicity of the effect controls and didn't take me long to dial in the sounds I wanted and I'll mostly leave the effects alone once they are set. Either turn them on or off depending on what I'm playing. If you like to tweak your effects a lot you probably won't like it. That's how I am with electric guitar but with the acoustic I like a little reverb, chorus and just play baby. I'm a horrible singer and the vocal channel make me sound less horrible.Awesome! The body res is cool and the looper loops. The assignable footswitch is a cool feature as well.

OK, but not great

By Sweetwater Customer

I have owned this amp for 2 weeks now and find it o.k. What I mean by that is it is passable for home use. It would be O.K. to take to a gig but because of some of the limitations with adjustments I may consider a different amp for guitar. It is loud enough, but the quality of the guitar channel is not that great. It does not really compare to a Fishman. The adjustment for both the guitar and voice are limited to large jumps - not small adjustments like on the Fishman. For example trying to adjust the reverb or echo slightly is not possible, it kind of jumps to the next level which is most often too much. Maybe if TC comes out with an update that may possibly correct some of that. I am playing both a Taylor and Martin acoustic and both sound ok, but not great. The looper works great and does allow either the voice or guitar channel or both and I can get the timing right on the money unlike some loopers I have used in the past.
I am considering purchasing the Fishman Loudbox Performer and maybe using some TC Vocal products which can be adjusted more finite.

Mehhh.

By Don A.
Music Background: Gigging professional.

One month in, 4 gigs, amp is so so. My fishman loudbox has a better sound but I wanted to ditch the voice live, rc3 looper pedal for an all in one amp.
Sound is thin, in both guitar and vocals compared to the fishman. I play a Gibson J45 with LR Baggs M80. Seinheiser vocal mic.

Now for the bad. Lack of a handle other than the recess in the chassis forces you to carry the amp with the tweed front against you leg, resulting in the cloth getting pushed in, a handle or a mesh screen behind the cloth may have helped.

I find the adaptive control basically useless, any vocal input needs an adjustable eq, this just squashes the sound in my opinion.
Not having the ability to adjust the level of effect is unacceptable, this offers zero flexibility, again, useless to me.
The body Rez option is ok but again, you have no control over it just a few presets.

If TCHelicon should offer a software program to remap the parameters of the effects that would make the amp worth the money.
If your going to spend over 500 bucks on an amp, you might want to consider fishman.
This amp will be a home use only and I'm back to a pedal board and the fishman, sadly.

I should have been more aware when the price dropped prior to my purchase.

WOW IS RIGHT!

By Sweetwater Customer

TC hit a home run. Not only is the sound amazing, but the amp is so simple and complete. I've had a lot of their gear and it's often like launching the Space Shuttle- layers of menus etc. This is all knobs, and simple simple simple. I love it. You can make the foot pedal do anything on the amp, turn the knob hit the pedal and your loop will stop, or anything else. My only gripe is the controls face the front, so I have to read backwards, not a biggie, and if this could run on batteries.....

Like the other review, I just received this and I am thrilled with the sound, features, fit and function. So compact with no need for extraneous pedals. Thanks again to Ian for his continued great service!

Wow. Just WOW

By DANIEL J.
Music Background: Danielpepinmusic.com

My wife preordered this for me months ago and I have been anxiously awaiting it. Now I just messed with it right out of the box using the quick start. I love the guitar channel so much. I play Spanish Classical and I've never found an amp that can compliment its tone. Well, I found it. My nylon is nuanced and well balanced and this amp really helps it sing. The effects are simple and useful. Being able to map the pedalboard is such a great idea. And that vocal channel???!!! The harmonies are clean and smooth not the brittle sound of a cheap unit. The tuner is always on but still has a mute button which is a great small detail. The top facing speaker works so great for when your amp is at floor level and you need to hear yourself. The recessed handle is virtually invisible keeping with the beautiful aesthetics. Being able to line out into a PA is also great for larger venues. I've only just got it so I'm hesitating to say its THE best acoustic amp/PA hybrid, but it's at LEAST top 3. This was worth the wait. And as always Sweetwater has the best service. Cheers guys@
