D'Addario Hygrometer - Humidity and Temperature Sensor Reviews

Hygrometer and Temperature Sensor with Digital Clock and Calendar

Proper humidity levels can not only make your guitar sound its best, but also prolong the life of your instrument. This D'Addario Humidity and Temperature Sensor features an accurate digital temperature indicator in Fahrenheit (-32 degrees F to 122 degrees F) or Centigrade (-35 degrees C to 50 degrees C). There's also an accurate relative humidity indicator (20% to 99%, under 20% displays the word "Lo"), that will indicate when you need to use a D'Addario instrument humidifier to raise humidity level in your instrument case. High and low temperature memory indicates the highest and lowest temperature and humidity conditions your instrument has been exposed to since the last reset. The D'Addario Humidity and Temperature Sensor is a great way to monitor the humidity health of your acoustic instrument.

d'addario temperature, hygrometer review

By william fayerweather from Wichita, KS on February 27, 2021

needed one so bought this one. then I read the reviews and wondered if mine was defective. even bought a different brand because of it.

but the two's numbers matched and it worked just fine afterall. it's an advanced unit and I think that the bad reviews were just the user's error or lack of understanding regarding humidity and a layman's hygrometer.

understandable though as I just took my moccasins off. but I did walk that same mile right with them.

if you're thinking about buying it buy it. it's a good device and does everything that it says it will.

Definitely required for acoustics in dry areas

By Charlie S. from Texas Hill Country on February 7, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist for many years, semi-pro, church musician.

I'd advise anyone living in a dry area (deserts and/or high altitudes, mainly) to have a hygrometer/thermometer in their arsenal (in the guitar's case, actually). When the humidity gets low, you risk damage to the exposed wood of the guitar, and for acoustics that's pretty much the whole instrument. The neck, top, back & sides can all dry out and begin to crack or separate, and that means either expensive repairs or complete loss of the instrument. I'm happy with my purchase from Sweetwater. Thanks, Phil Schwan (my sales engineer).

Not that good

By Sweetwater Customer on April 10, 2019

Had this for about 8 months and gives out false readings with humidty. I would not trust this, maybe for a enclosed guitar case but most certainly not a room....Changed the battery too.

humidity indicator

By David Watson from ABILENE, TX on December 13, 2020 Music Background: 8 years trumpet, 10 years guitar.

This is not a very accurate instrument. I live in west Texas where it is usually relatively dry. It stays on my music stand and varies between 39% to 51% and I set it out on the porch where the relative humidity is 87 this morning and the hydrometer only measured 57%. I have not worried too much about my guitars but my Taylor 810 has developed a soundboard crack from the endpin bout half way to the strings. The temperature indicator is not too accurate either.I will not use this as an accurate indicator any more. I got what I paid for and will get a more expensive instrument.

Broke in a few months

By Sweetwater Customer on September 17, 2019

Cheap product stopped working after a a few months giving false readings and the screen flickers uncontrollably.

Stopped working after a month or two

By Eric B on March 12, 2024

Kept in a case that sat on the floor and not moved more than a few feet. I have two others that work but show different readings.

Not Good

By Carlos E. Santa Maria from Saint Louis on February 6, 2024 Music Background: Classical music

I purchased this Hygrometer and broke in less than two months. Not recommended!

Do not buy this

By Sweetwater Customer on December 5, 2023

Hardto program. Incurate. I bought three, side by side show different redings. Do not buy.

It's not even reading the temperature correct in the room.

By Ted from New York on June 13, 2023

The temperature reading is super high (in an air conditioned room, even brought it to my office). Therefore I don't trust RH reading ( which is quite low) when compared to an analogue one I have in the same room.

Wast of $

By Hudson from Ohio on January 13, 2023 Music Background: Beginning to learn music

I've had this D'Addario Hygrometer for only a few weeks I purchased it December 22 2022 and as of writing this review it is January 12th 2023. Yesterday I was cleaning and dropped it 2ft from my desk by my guitar to the floor and it completely stopped working.
Wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Giving it 1 star if I could give it less I would it's not durable at all

Worthless, I Advised Them To Not Sell These

By Andrew from NYC on April 12, 2022 Music Background: Amateur

I purchased two, both gave wildly different readings and each was inaccurate compared to a hygrometer from our Science lab (I am a teacher who plays and also runs our school Guitar Club).

Humidity in school is terrible and need these to be accurate.

Took a couple of months to verify, and, of course, too late to return.

I'd advise you to spend the money and get the Humiditrak. Verified highly accurate and reliable.

But I will be purchasing more of those elsewhere, since they didn't take this worthless model back. back for the full refund.

I would say this thing probably worked perfectly fine the first couple of weeks, but it didn't take even a full month's time before it started getting sketchy. At some point it stayed at 50% for a while when it previously changed a little bit every day. About a weeks or so later, it then stayed at "Lo" and wouldn't move even when I put a humidifier in the room. This went in for several more weeks. One day just for kicks, I even took it with me into the bathroom while I took a hot shower and steamed the whole room up, and it still said Lo afterward. I was done after that, this product cannot be trusted, and after seeing so many similar bad reviews on it, I have concluded that this is a waste of time and money. I also don't trust its temp reading either. I probably did more humidity-related damage to my guitars with this thing than I would've without it, and considering that's the whole purpose of this device, it's just unacceptable. The poor operation of this device would be unacceptable for something 1/8 of the price they ask for it, so it's an expensive little mistake. Please, get something else, anything will be better.

Bad battery life

By Michael C from Cottonwood Heights, UT on September 22, 2021

Not much to say. Seems to be within the 5% tolerance that's indicated in the literature. I've had it in my guitar case where it worked well until the battery died after only two months. That's just not good enough for a relatively expensive rebranded import. I've got a $7 unbranded import that's more accurate and has gone for twice as long (and still going) on the original battery.. D'Addario can do better.

Gave out in a few weeks

By Edwin Betz from New Castle, DE on June 8, 2021

It was erratic at first but then stopped working completely after a few weeks. I tried a new battery just to be sure.

Bad battery life and accuracy issues

By Mark on January 1, 2021

I have 4 of these, just re-purchased one to replace one that already failed. Bad choice on my part. These hygrometers are all but worthless. They chew through batteries at a pace of 1 every 3-4 weeks, and all of mine suspiciously never move off 27% humidity---regardless of how many packs are in the case, or even proximity to an actual humidifier. I have been duped.

Failed first day

By Sweetwater Customer on May 8, 2019

The display for RH shows "LO%" although 2 humidifiers in case. Other guitar shows 50% RH with competitor product.
I would not recommend.
