Schecter quality!

By Jesse P. from ST PETERSBURG, FL
Music Background: 3 years playing guitar

Ultraviolet is a gorgeous finish, truly stunning with how it plays in the light. The guitar was my first Floyd, still getting acquainted with it, but it's getting better. Not quite as daunting as expected, and with great rewards.

Tuning stability is amazing, the sustainiac is fun to use, and neck sounds pretty nice on its own, not just a gimmick! The EMG 57 in the bridge sounds mean and snarly, while still keeping definition.

Thanks to Mike Wright for his insight into Schecter and learning to deal with a Floyd Rose.

Toolbox Goto guitar (and makes me want to play more)

By Ken B. from San Antonio Texas
Music Background: 5x Grammy nominated record producer/engineer

So lots to say about this one , this guitar or one similar is a must if you use a modeler or capture based amplification. I've never heard anyone recommend this for what it does, and many people think the sustainer pickup is a gimmick,,,,oh how wrong they are. Now just to point out I do have two issues with the guitar but nothing that can't be fixed or modified.

Pros

1. With proper use of the sustainer it makes your small amp or modelers sound but more importantly feel like a 100 watt stack cranked up behind you.

2. Build quality is top notch, I found no blemishes, neck, frets, fretboard all feel amazing and fast. For $ it rivals some Ibanez that are in the $ price range.(yes prestige models). Excellent quality control.

3. Looks great. The paint is not really my style but is growing on me quickly, reminds me of those color shift paint jobs on cars. (ex. Dipmycar on YouTube).

4. Nice to have a EMG 57 instead of 81. More open less compressed sound. Kinda like an active version of a burstbucker.

Cons

1. Springs on this Floyd Rose are awful.( squeaky and doesn't always feel like it goes back to exact tuning every time). Think the switch to some silent springs will fix both problems. Maybe a better setup and intonation check as well couldn't hurt.

2. The EMG 57 is a triple stacked coil ideal for a coil tap but no installation of push/pull knob on the volume. Not sure if the sustainer pickup is the reason need to talk to my tech about that.

Amazing guitar

By Gary W. from Rancho Cucamonga, CA

This is not my first Schecter, nor my first with a Sustainiac. Having said that…this guitar is great! Action, fit & finish, playability…all good. Wasn't sure what I would think of the EMG pick-up. I like it. Different from my other EMG equipped guitars. A bit more vintage PAF sounding. Nice

That pretty much sums up the sound side… The Ultra Violet is freaking amazing. Mostly blue…ish. LOL But changes colour depending on the light & angle. Super cool.

This guitar was back ordered for what seemed like forever. When it finally came back in stock, the most excellent Ben Cameron gave me a call. We discussed preferred weight & the like…and Ben grabbed the one I wanted and had it sent my way. Awesome.

A few days later he called to follow up and make sure everything was meeting my expectations. He's done that even for little things that I've "ordered at midnight" without his help/advice. That's serious customer care. Thank you once again Ben for being on top of your game. A true asset to Sweetwater. And one of the reasons that I'm a long time customer .

Quality is Superb

By Fini from Phoenix, AZ

I have several guitars and always go to this one. Perfect out of box, stays in tune and plays like a dream. Beautiful sustain and just feels and plays flawlessly.
Oh, the color? Its incredibly cool and people are just amazed at how it changes with every move. The attention to detail and quality is really what makes this guitar so good. Love it.

What a guitar!

By Gary from SoCal
Music Background: More years than I care to think about.

This is my 2nd Schecter with a Sustainiac…the 1st being a 7-string Hellraiser. Also an awesome guitar. Seeing as that one is 7-string and tuned down, I wanted a 6-string for more "normal" stuff…so I wouldn't have to retune all the time and mess around with the issues that it can create with a floating bridge. (Yes, 1st world problems.)

When I saw this, I knew I had to try it. And it was back ordered…seemingly forever. LOL But I waited…and waited…and then Ben Cameron gave me a call and said they had a few in. Yay! He grabbed the one with the weight that I wanted and got that thing shipped out ASAP.

Pictures do not do it justice. It looks as good as it sounds. The EMG 57 has a nice sound to it…perhaps not quite as aggressive as something like the 81. It rocks. As does the Sustainiac. Infinite sustain, feedback at any volume, everything from subtle & tasty to full on sonic mayhem. Lots of fun.

Great guitar in every way

By STEVEN D. from Springville, UT

This is my first "tricked-out" guitar. I wasn't sure what to expect with the Sustainiac and the Floyd Rose. This review is for less experienced players who are considering trying this out.

I was worried that the Sustainiac would keep the strings going to the point where my flawed technique would be well, unsustainable, but that is not the case. It is easy to control and in a headless home studio setup, I get that feedback feel that makes me think I am on a stage standing in front of a full stack. It is a whole new level of expression and no need to overdo it.

I was also worried that the Floyd Rose would be difficult to maintain or modify. I changed strings to a much heavier gauge than what shipped with the guitar and tuned down to B standard, kind of an exaggerated change. I had no issues at all just some expected adjusting to the spring tension to keep the bridge level but the action is still great, I did not have to touch the truss rod. It still plays great and stays in tune.

Definitely unplug it when not in use and purchase rechargeable 9v batteries. You will play this guitar a lot. The Sustainiac will get the strings humming as the guitar sits on the stand, it was kind of funny the first time I wondered where that noise was coming from. But as I mentioned, while playing this is somehow never an issue.

This guitar is a blast.

I love playing this guitar

By Prakash P. from Valley Park, MO

The changing color with the reflecting of light was dazzling. It is really awesome guitar. I really like the sustain pickup with different settings and the smooth playable fret and tough Floyd Rose tremolo.

Checks lots of boxes at an affordable price.

By Brian C. from Jefferson City, MO
Music Background: Playing for years and getting paid!

First of all, the guitar. I have a custom Strat, a professionally moded Ibanez 550, a Custom Tele, and many more. This guitar stacks up. I prefer the smoother sound of the EMG 57 (in this guitar's bridge position) over the "in your face" EMG 81. The compound radius, ebony fretboard is butter smooth. I thought of the Sustaniac as a gimmick, until I used it. Sustain and harmonics at bedroom volume levels. The paint is... well, I don't have the words. It is killer, awesome, very cool... Iridescent color shifting. You can see a little of it in the photo I posted. Pictures do not do it justice. This guitar is worth the money. Secondly, my sales engineer, Grant Embury is amazing. I have dealt with Sweetwater since 2008. Grant for about 5 years. They take EXCELLENT care, follow up, and focus on getting answers. I work at a friend's recording studio, so over the years, we have thrown Grant some serious questions! My first review so I had to shout out to Grant and Sweetwater!

Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid C-1FR-S Review

By Eden S. from Las Vegas
Music Background: Professional guitarist since 1983. I've played in national acts, cover bands, shows, etc.

This guitar gets 5 stars for the money. If it was a $ guitar, I'd give it 4.75 stars. There are a couple of imperfections in the graphite weave binding. Other than that I can't find any issues. You will most likely need to have it set up after you get it. The action was too high on this one, plus I wanted to use my normal string gauge, which is 9-46. I think it came with 10's. Most guitars have to acclimate to their final destination. I also own a Schecter Blackjack SLS Avenger. I wanted another schecter with a sustainiac. The Hellraiser Hybrid has an additional "drive" control for the sustainiac that that the Avenger does not. I've had the guitar out on 3 gigs so far and haven't really messed with that control yet. The tuning seems to be pretty stable now. I bought one of the lighter ones that Sweetwater had. It's 8 pounds. I really like the fact that Sweetwater let's you choose among their inventory. This guitar has a lot of extras that you won't find on other brands. The satin finish on the back of the neck is really nice. I have EMG's on most of my guitars, and I'm quite happy with the EMG 57 that this came with. The guitar feels very solid and has great tone. I'm using it through a Kemper Stage. I play a variety of styles from Metal to Hip Hop. It's not as versatile sounding as a guitar with a humbucker and two single coils, but it gets the job done. I prefer a tad more slender of a neck, but it's still really good. It's not chunky or big. Slightly thicker than say an Ibanez RG. The tuners are great. The finish is amazing, and I've had several compliments on it from the audience. ESP is charging over 5K for guitars with a similar flip/flop finish. It has what seems to be one of the higher end Floyd Rose trems. The bar does not thread on. It inserts. You can adjust the tension with a set screw. I've not had this before, but it seems to work better, with the tension being more evenly distributed. The glow-in-the-dark position markers on the side of the neck are a nice touch for when the stage lights go dark. The sustainiac functions as expected, which is awesome. As most of you know, you could not buy a guitar with all of these features from Fender, Gibson, or PRS, at any price.

The Best Guitar I've Ever Played

By Sweetwater Customer from Missouri

I used to be an Ibanez guy, but in recent years their prices haven't been reflective of the quality. I had a lot of issues with their bridges and decided to go with something new, and decided on the Hellraiser Hybrid. I play a lot of 80's hair band stuff like Van Halen, Ozzy, Dokken etc. I thought about things I like in a guitar, which are: Thin satin neck, 24 big jumbo frets, ebony/rosewood fretboard, Floyd Rose 1500, quality pickups(never tried actives, but now they are my preference because of this guitar), a sustainiac, and a really cool paintjob(I went with UltraViolet). Everything on this guitar is extremely high quality and the price is more than reasonable and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a superstrat style guitar.

Four and a half

By Sweetwater Customer

This guitar is awesome. It sounds great for any genre and style. It works for metal, blues, rock. Just a nice guitar all around. My disappointment is with the setup. I would hope at the price point it would be ready to go out of the box, but it did require several adjustments. Pick up height was too low, action was different on the top 3 strings than the bottom three. Tremo was not parallel to the body, it was sucked into the cavity a little bit. Trem arm holder was loose, intonation was flat by half a step. All of those things being fixed, this guitar is now a 5+, but like everything, it will need a good setup before it's playable out of the box.

Got it for metal but I use it for everything

By Tom E. from California

I bought this thinking I wanted a "metal" guitar to practice shredding (my other guitars are all strats and teles). But this is the guitar I pick up every day. It is surprisingly versatile and high quality. Schecter offers a lot of bang for the buck. In addition to the cool paint job (purple, blue, green or even gold in the right light) you get a fast satin sls neck with a carve at the joint you can't get with any bolt on. The Floyd Rose stays in tune (and stories about how hard it is to change strings are overstated). I can also recommend Sweetwater's Plek service. It doesn't seem like that much but pick up one of your old guitars and you can tell the difference. Smooth with no dead spots with a fast action.
