Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 IV 2x12" 60-watt Tube Combo Amp Reviews

60-watt 3-channel All-tube 2x12" Guitar Combo Amplifier with Reverb - Black

You spoke; Fender listened. Committed to making improvements on their already legendary amps, Fender brings the Hot Rod DeVille 212 IV to the playing public for 2018. This gigging workhorse amp has been updated with modified preamp circuitry, smoother-sounding spring reverb, and refined aesthetics. Still in place are a pair of 12" Celestion A-type speakers — that's two smoking-hot 60-watt 2 x 12" speakers that kick out a beautifully wide palette of tonal colors from hot, crisp high end to full-bodied, defined lows. Many players here at Sweetwater have a Fender Hot Rod Deville IV in their collection.

Fantastic amp for what I need it for, Outlaw Country. Had one issue with the pedal and it was corrected quickly.

Holy Sh@t!

I am hooked on this amp's overdrive sounds. The clean sounds rival my AC30. Perfect amp for the gigging punk rocker. Thanks Sweetwater!

Fantastic Amp.

I purchased this Deville a few months back so I'd get some time to really get to use it before writing about it. I'm really impressed with it, the clean sounds are outstanding and if you like to use pedals have at it, it's great for them as well ( I have a small board myself ). The only thing I wouldn't mind possibly being added to this amp might be a built in attenuator, it's a loud amp and I use it in a large room however the few times I did need to turn it down some it didn't sound bad at lower settings either.
Giving it 5 stars because it does everything it's written up to do and then some. Also a huge thank you to Abraham Sanchez, great salesman and very helpful always!

Semi Pro Weekend band Guitar Player

This is a great Amp - I play in a Classic Rock / Country band...I need a very versatile amp and this is it! Great Cleans and a very usable overdrive Channel. My best friend just bought this amp as well because of hearing my Hot Rod - If you gig this is a great amp.....

Fender got it right!

By Rick on October 30, 2018 Music Background: Gigging player

I've owned many amps over the years, mainly Fender and Marshall, and have always found each to be a compromise that required some electronic work to get the tone I was after. When Fender updated the Hot Rod line in early 2018 I was fairly disinterested because I have a HR Deluxe III which has been heavily modified into a pretty good amp. But after reading so many reviews about how Fender tweaked the series IV electronics to a smoother overdrive, added better speakers and solid pine cabinets I decided to try one. Wow, I am amazed at the sound. Right out of the box this amp is killer. Sparkling but smooth cleans, beautiful warm overdrive and easily controlled volume... no mods needed! This amp will provide great tone from very small rooms to large stages without breaking a sweat.
I'm primarily a blues/blues rock player and the Deville IV is now all I need. This is a great working players amp. FYI... I play Les Pauls so I don't have any experience with this amp and single coils.

A big thanks to Aaron at Sweetwater, great service and fair prices!

Great Amp

By OldFenderguy from Illinois on July 31, 2018 Music Background: Studio, live, etc.

I have one in 4 X 10" configuration & 1 in 2 X 12". Both sound great! More than enough power to keep up with louder drummers or other guitar amps cranked. I changed the 12"'s to Eric Johnsons. The presence now jumps out of the amp! The 4 X 10 is stock and I like it a lot. I use it for the SRV sound. Clean channel is a bit bright when I play the Tele thru it, but hey, it's a Tele. Overdrive channel is where this amp really shines. Both amps are great when driven hard and the harmonics are better than most. For some reason I like my Les Paul Standard thru the 4 X 10 way more than thru the 2 X 12. There are nicer sounding amps out there. But not for this price. Love em!!

Great Fender Tone!

By Joe from Lubbock, Tx. on April 1, 2018 Music Background: Just an amateur guitar player.

I was a bit skeptical at first. I played a few of the older Hot Rods before and always thought the clean channel was good but was not overly impressed with the overdrive channel. I have owned a ton of amps from Marshall, Splawn, Mesa, Dr. Z, Orange, EVH etc. but only a couple of Fenders, I really love their bluesy clean and overdriven sounds but I just didn't get with the previous Fenders I owned, a 67 Super Reverb and a custom shop 57 Twin reissue I bought used at a very good price, they were ok but no real magic. I expected the Twin to be much better. After watching some videos and reading reviews I decided to take a chance on the Hot Rod Deville, I am so glad I did, the clean sounds are amazing, the overdrive channel is really smooth, very fat but sparkly at the same time, takes pedals very well both in front of the amp and through the effects loop. Volume controls work well, no jumps. This amp won't do metal well but for blues and classic rock it is outstanding, I have owned it about 3 weeks, as the speakers get broken in it just keeps getting better. Very, Very happy with my purchase from Sweetwater

Great clean channel, all the bang you need!

By Sweetwater Customer on November 10, 2023 Music Background: 30+ years playing

Great amp clean tones on the main channel. I run a pedal board in front for all sounds needed, and often direct for jazz settings. Its heavy (55lbs), I recommend getting a low dolly with wheels to move it around. Great amp foe those full band shows. No issues for about 100 shows over 5+ years. very happy with it!

Cons: channel 2 and more drive sound like garbage to me and are useless. thats a fender thing prevalent in all their amps

Sounds great!

By Sweetwater Customer on May 5, 2019

Amp has amazing sound. The drive channel is perfect for any genre. The clean channel is exceptional. It is super loud. Only reason I"m not giving the amp a full five star rating is because the tolex wasn"t glued properly on the back of the housing. For me… it"s a little disappointing to see that. Not sweetwater"s fault. Overall content with my purchase.
