Bass Drum O's Hole Cutter for Bass Drumheads Reviews

Adjustable Hole Cutter Tool for Bass Drumheads

Cutting your own port hole just got a lot easier. The Bass Drum O's Hole Cutter works like a circular glass cutter: you push the center punch through your bass drum resonant head, then wheel the cutter tool around to create the perfect hole. The Hole Cutter is adjustable, too - it makes port holes as small as 2" all the way up to 10" in diameter. Port holes make miking and muffling so much easier. And if you're looking to protect that hole for the life of the head, Sweetwater recommends protecting it with a Bass Drum O's protector ring (not included; sold separately).

Bass Drum O's Hole Cutter

Oh...my...goodness! This thing is outstanding. Yes, it's just a hole cutter, but, just think of the headache it would save if you were to slip while cutting a port hole in that custom kick head you just got. Very easy to use, pick the size port hole you want, set the pin and you are off. I would recommend putting down masking tape, over the complete area you plan to cut. For one, marking for location will be a lot easier. And two, the tape will add some thickness to the head and in my opinion, you'll get a better cut.

Best port cutter out there.

Forget burning a hole with a can or potentially ruining your head with a wild knife cut. This will give you the perfect port at the desired size every single time. No hastle.

Cuts a perfect smooth hole

By Sweetwater Customer on January 20, 2017 Music Background: Experianced drummer

Works as advertised and makes cutting a perfectly smooth hole easy the 1th try. Just place the front of your port ring on the head exactly where you want it, take the "tack" of the cutter and punch a pilot hole. Then place the tack in the correct hole on the cutter (example 4") and place the tack near the pilot hole until you feel it fall in. Now simply apply firm pressure on the entire cutter and turn it in a complete circle. The important things are to do this on a firm surface and I suggest over a piece of cardboard to protect your floor, and to make sure your applying firm even pressure on both ends of the cutter as you turn your circle.

Easy to use!

This cutter works great. No more winging it with an exacto blade.

Slipped Off, Butchering Hole

By Jason from Deer Park, TX on August 4, 2020 Music Background: Drummer for 32 years.

First, I used this to cut the hole, which got off track when the hole got about half way cut, causing the pin to slip and the cutter got off track. I then traced and cut the hole as good as I could. I then purchased their port hole ring product to help cover up the little inconsistencies of the hole. It would have looked good if the pieces snapped together easy. I used their recommendation of using a flat head, which the product states be careful so the blade doesn't slip and puncture the bass drum. I'm a pretty big guy and used a lot of force and could not get the two to snap together. I eventually had to apply so much pressure, then inevitable happened and it slipped. The head didn't get punctured, but it did dent it. Not good for a brand new drum head.
