Comfortable and Accurate

By Garrett Schultz from COLORADO SPRINGS, CO on January 8, 2024 Music Background: DJ/Producer

Very satisfied with choosing these headphones! Very clean sound without extra bass and very light and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time either laying back and listening or producing.

Incredible sound and comfort!

By Sweetwater Customer on December 18, 2023

I use these to practice guitar through a Quad Cortex and they're amazing.

Natural sounding

By Robert on December 15, 2023 Music Background: Classical

I'm enjoying my HD 600 open-back headphones. Great value for the price. They're natural sounding, spacious, and comfortable to use for hours. I appreciate the evenness from low to high.

Lives up to its reputation.

By Jeff Sanders from Merced, CA on September 12, 2023 Music Background: Retired mastering engineer, mediocre drummer and singer, audio hobbyist

After decades of using various closed headphones and earbuds, my experience convinced my that regardless of price (within reasonable limits), and regardless of brand, I could not get a reliable mix, especially of low end elements, on headphones.
I had a project coming up where I needed to do useable studio work without making much noise in the house. Since there would be no open mics for most of this work, I thought I'd try the Senn HD 660 open-back headphones. They have a long and excellent history in pro settings.
And… they are amazing. I was about to write "they have a fairly flat frequency response", but there are no generally accepted standards saying exactly what that means. So instead of that, I'll say that the 660s give me useful and balanced information across the full frequency spectrum. The work I am doing on the 660s translate to my regular studio monitors, my mix cubes, other headphones and sound good in my car.
I am not recommending mixing exclusively on any headphones, but if I was forced to do that, the Senn 660 would be my choice.

Top notch

These are the bees knees of audiophile open back headphones 5 stars perfect.

Nice upgrade

By Sweetwater Customer from IN on October 14, 2022 Music Background: Drummer, home studio

I like these much better than the HD280 phones. Pretty flat and no hype. Has helped me dialing in the midrange frequencies in my studio. These are the first open back phones that I've tried and they have a nice airiness to them.

Believe the positive reviews.

By Jon T from Brunswick,OH on September 9, 2022 Music Background: Audio enthusiast/ drummer

I have the Sennheiser HD 558, probably the most comfortable and lightweight headphones ever made. They sound good for the price, but stepping up to the HD 600 the smoothness, life-like , faithfulness to the source sound became my favorite headphones. Sure there are more expensive, always better out there . But the HD 600's are keepers for me!

Headphones Open Back

Perfect when mixing when you can't throttle up the monitors.
Great sound, and not as costly as one would think.

Comfortable and Great Sounding

By Corey Wilkinson from Miles City, MT on April 16, 2022 Music Background: 20+ yrs Performing Rock/Metal Guitar, Bass & Keys, Recording, Gear Nerd

These Headphones are very, very nice. The open back is very similar to a studio monitor listening experience. Ive used them a lot editing drums and they're great for that because they are very detailed. Another important thing I really like is the comfort. While they can be a bit stifling in a really warm environment, they are remarkable comfortable. Its easy to disconnect one earphone if you need to hone in on detail in only one side. It has a long cable, 1/8" to 1/4" screw on adapter and is simple and easy to adjust for head size. If I had to pick something that I didn't like it would be that they don't feel a bit flimsy but I guess time will tell.

Now I think so, great sound!!

By Gerber Gonzalez from Miami, FL on January 27, 2022

I come from a DT990 and the change feels, I like how flat these are and in my mixing process they are a reliable reference

Great Studio Phones

By @screamingsteven from loveland, OH on January 17, 2022 Music Background: Working musician

These were the fllattest phones in this price range. I use them in my studio and for setting up my Axe Fx and my tube amps with speaker Sims. Everything translates perfectly.

Incredible

These are awesome, I was shocked they blew my HD6XX's out of the water. I had no idea they were so different. These things are IT.

Believe the hype!

By Michael L. from Arizona on December 3, 2021 Music Background: Mixing & mastering engineer.

I own the HD650's and love them. I keep hearing people recommend the HD600 for mixing and mastering, as it has a more "honest" frequency signature. I decided to find out for myself. I have to agree, the HD600 sound very, very good. Accurate. The HD650 are no slouches, they just sound a little too hi-fi in the bottom end. Anyway, buy either pair for an amazing experience.

The best open back under $1,000

By Brian from MD on October 28, 2021 Music Background: Professional composer

An absolutely legendary set of headphones, hopefully they never discontinue these, because the HD660s were great... but these are better! Incredibly warm, neutral, accurate, and detailed. No muddiness whatsoever, the mids and airy highs are truly sublime. There is no sub-bass extension, but that's to be expected with an open-back pair of reference cans. Impeccable! You will need an amp if listening to your audio player with these, 300 ohms needs some juice to shine. These headphones will last you forever, and will shine no matter what though... basically, the more you invest in better gear like headphone amp, DACs, higher-res audio files, etc, this set of headphones will reward you exponentially. That doesn't mean regular mp3s won't sound good, they will sound better than you've ever heard, but what I mean is... this set of cans is infinitely scalable with your gear and will reveal details you've never heard before, making your music sound better in the end when you're done mixing. For that reason, and the scalability and longevity, this is the ultimate return on investment you can possibly get, beating out other headphones that cost over 2,000 dollars. I still would choose this over the HD660s and HD650, even the HD800 series!

Flat as a pancake

Best Headphone!! Beautifully Honest!

By Hudson Chung from Boston, MA on July 9, 2021 Music Background: Classical Musician and Home recording Artist

If you are buying Headphones for mixing or mastering this is the one!

Nope don't get HD650 this is way better and balanced.

I have UAD interface so didn't need to get AMP.

Just Wonderful for me. it is the best headphone and also very comfortable for your ears.

Great range at the right price point

By Sweetwater Customer on May 4, 2021

These seem to be designed for a prosumer budget and use-case and do fit in that category perfectly. For the target market I say it hits perfectly. Clear and crisp sound with excellent response from lows to highs. These can be used from simple listening enjoyment to entry audio reference.

Lightweight open-back design, comfortable for all-day usage. Due to the design these aren't good for very noisy environments and there will be significant sound leakage. The cups are spaced well enough from the ear that you're unlikely to encounter rubbing and irritation.

This may be a unpopular opinion with some but the money for the next upgrade up (the HD 650) will very likely be better spent on other equipment. Between the HD 600 and 650, the 650 does have the wider range (10-41KHz at -10dB). If you aren't already established and with proper equipment for mixing/recording then having better headphones isn't going to provide much benefit. And with about one in three people having at least mild tinnitus those higher ranges might not be very clear anyways. Ultimately, go with what's right for your setup and usage.

Pros:
- Perfect for prosumer usage
- Excellent response
- Lightweight and comfortable

Cons:
- Older models of HD 600 had issues with peeling paint; be careful with used purchase, doesn't seem to affect current runs

Unbelievable sound quality!

By Ken Chaney from Alabama on April 7, 2021 Music Background: 35 years, several instruments including piano, alto sax, drums, guitar and bass.

I own several sets of headphones and earbuds including a couple of sets of Sennheiser products.
I was told about these from my sales engineer and I began to read reviews not just on Sweetwaters site but all over. Very positive reviews overall. When I realized Sweetwater had the price much lower than the competition, I went for it. I use these exclusively for practicing my bass guitar at home. I currently don't have a place to practice so headphones have to be the way. I began practicing the first song on my list and I was blown away. The bass response is unbelievably clear and crisp, especially at high volumes.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the last set of headphones I will ever need.
Buy them, you won't regret it!

Totally Different Listening Experience

By JKRichard from Orlando, FL on April 7, 2021

There's a reason why these HD600 cans have received praise for many years from audiophiles to mix engineers: they sound phenomenal. If you need flat, responsive headset, and you don't want to damage your already damaged wallet : these are it. I was pleasantly stunned when I heard these for the first time, they sounded so incredibly similar to my studio monitors - except they were even flatter than the monitors. I a/b'd for at least 15 minutes until I finally accepted the reality that these were in fact worth every nickel and dime.
The only thing you'll have to contend with is other audiophiles arguing whether you should be mixing with open back phones - ask 4 audio engineers: get 5 opinions.

Excellent reference headphones

By Jonathan from California on March 6, 2021 Music Background: Violin

Among headphones, nothing comes closer to hearing the truth of your music. Detail retrieval and clarity feels revealing, and
the timbre sounds natural. Well worth the purchase and a shining example of headphones as microscopes for the ears.

Realistic represntation

By Juan R Leon from FL on February 2, 2021 Music Background: Stickist, bassist.

This is my 1st pair of Sennheiser HD600s. I bought them specifically for mixing based on recommendations and reputation.
They do not disappoint.
Every thing that has been written or talked about with regards to these headphones and their ability to impart as little coloration as possible in order to represent a truly transparent and clear sound image is true. My 1st listen impressed upon me the clarity and space that is often not present in headphones. What I mean to say is that one can feel the air, space, and distance as though sitting in a room listening to high end boutique monitors. The HD600s do not give me the feeling of listening in my head, there was no impact on my ears in this sense. Instead, I heard the source, the music, in its "natural" state. What you hear is truly what you get with the HD600s.
Comfort wise they are, to myself, at least, extremely pleasing. Some have expressed that they tend to clamp down a bit too much. But they felt exceptional to me. And I have a big head!
The build, though plastic, is of a high quality. Fitment of the grills is tight and the ear foam is plush yet firm. The band is finished in a nice matte black. The cable is of a high quality with sturdy connectors.
These are the newer design. Gone is the old marbled blueish look. Also gone is the hard cardboard, hinged box with the nice, molded foam insert. The new box is flimsy with a cheap, vacu-formed plastic insert. Definitely a down grade from the former packaging. But then again, with headphones of this quality, you may want to invest in a nice travel case.
So far these cans live up to their reputation. We'll see as to their longevity. But parts are readily available and fairly easy to replace, so I do not see a problem there.

Light, comfortable, and yet out-perform most others easily.

By Dave from Scottsdale, AZ on January 22, 2021

Depth, separation, definition and of course clarity. But something more here too; a non-discretional reproduction of the feel of the recording. After listening, I feel like I happen to have been there in the studio with them that day.

Sennheiser HD600 Headphones

By Lew from NYC on November 19, 2020 Music Background: Percussionist

Best Headphones for Mixing

By Nick Fox from Pomona, CA on November 6, 2020 Music Background: Multi-instrument musician, singer/songwriter, recordist, producer, home studio playground supervisor

These are the best headphones I've used for mixing! They give clear uncolored response across the soundscape. I can wear them for long sessions without discomfort or fatigue. I haven't experience any "tight clamping" from the fit that I've seen others mention. If you're looking for a great pair of open back cans for the right price, get the Sennheiser HD 600s!

Best Mixing Headphones

By Kerwin Young on August 18, 2020 Music Background: RRHOF (Public Enemy - 2013), Concert & Media Composer, Recording Producer

I've been in the recording industry for over 30 years, and I find the Sennheiser HD600's to be the best for mixing. You get a great 1:1 ratio from the cans to the studio monitors. There's no coloration. What you hear is what you get.

Glad I chose these!

By Sweetwater Customer on August 14, 2020

Headphones and speakers are a pretty difficult thing to review, since we all have expectations to be met, and written or spoken language are not so hot tools to convey the experience of hearing something to someone else. I needed to replace a well used and loved pair of Beyer headphones, which in their day were near the top of the heap price and quality wise. The right side driver developed a bad buzz, like the voice coil had come apart. My budget is such that a few hundreds of dollars is about right, much more doesn't make sense, and my older ears won't notice, anyhow. Being a long time Sennheiser mic fan, I'm very pleased with these headphones, all in all. They are not overly heavy handed in any part of the audio spectrum which I still hear well, and I don't have to have them cranked up to get a sense that these things are not lying to me and presenting me with what is being sent to them without adding or subtracting very much. The main use of these will end up being monitoring/mixing a not very elaborate live feed for the church, and separate recording work when the organist is up for it, being very fortunate to have an elderly but very much up to the task pipe organ in the church, and a competent organist.

They fit my head well, are not tight, the surrounds should mold to my noggin reasonably well. There is a generous length of nice, rubbery feeling cable, (not hard to uncoil PVC jacket) which I really like. The 1/8 to 1/4 adapter is very clever, in that the 1/8 plug is threaded into the 1/4 adapter, so it cannot be easy pulled out.

Excellent headphones

By Christopher Rychlik on August 4, 2020

Sennheiser makes very good quality headphones. These are nice and detailed, but non-fatiguing and with good bass. Just as important they are comfortable to wear. These new headphones are replacing an older pair of HD-580's.

Perfect for Helix/HX!

By Nick Hilderbrand from TX on July 14, 2020

I've been struggling getting any kind of consistency between what I hear at home while practicing and editing, and what I hear live though my in-ears. I have used my in-ears (Shure SE215) for a while now since they get me the closest, but my ears start to hurt from having them in. Wanted to try headphones, and everything else I've tried has been really scooped and bass heavy. BUT NOT THESE! If you want to hear bass, I wouldn't recommend, but for things that you need to hear the mid-range, they work great! It was literally a night and day difference from my ATH-M40x's. I could finally hear all the nuances of my playing without having to crank the volume so high it hurt. Best monitoring solution I have ever used!

Epic Headphones

Perfect for guitar modeling!

By Nick Hilderbrand from JASPER, TX on July 5, 2020

I made the switch using all modeling for my rig and have struggled constantly with not being happy with my tones. I would get something I was happy with at home and then when I got to church, it just did not fit in our mix well. I have used multiple types of in-ear buds and multiple types of full size headphones, and none of them really have allowed me to get a sound at home that transfers to a live setting until I got these Sennheisers. They are not bass heavy, and they are not mid scooped, and they are not harsh in the top end. They just sound really neutral and even! Best headphones I've ever used!

I love these headphones!

By Timothy Wheeler from Lawrenceville, GA on May 27, 2020 Music Background: Adjunct Faculty Audio Production, studio owner

I was skeptical at first to get open-back headphones, but I love these headphones! I feel I am hearing what is really there without any coloration. No hype in the bass, no presence peak in the upper-mids. They are light, comfortable and I can easily wear them for 2 - 3 hours without ear fatigue or physical discomfort. I am able to hear small details to make critical mixing decisions.

My first pair was Sennheiser HD280. I liked these and used them for years. When the plastic arch broke I bought Shure SRH840 (which I just bought a few months ago!). I didn't feel that I was truly hearing what was there, as I think they boost the bottom end around 100 Hz some.

I am currently enrolled in the Masters in Music Production program at Berklee (online) and our Advanced Mastering professor recommended these for the class. I am not disappointed I bought them!!

Unbeatable

By Nathan from Eielson AFB, AK on February 20, 2020 Music Background: Audio Engineer, Recording Artist

First off, I havent even received these headphones yet and I am already compelled to write a review. There is no need to validate their sound, for it has been proven by ears much more talented than mine. I did tremendously research before settling on these cans. What I really want to comment on is Sweetwater's phenomenal customer service. I had an issue trying to pay with PayPal, so I shot a message to my sales rep (Phil Shoaff). He called me the very next morning, sent me a PayPal invoice and even waved the shipping fee for me. He also asked how my home studio was coming and was genuinely interested in how my music was coming. This is something I have never experienced from any other vendor. My experience with Sweetwater has been refreshing to say the least. They have gained a customer for life. I am enthralled knowing that these headphones are the next addition to my home studio and I cannot wait to listen to what I know (as an engineer) are the best headphones you can get for this price point.

Honest phones, I can listen for hours

By ANDISS MUSIC on January 9, 2020 Music Background: Classical music professional

I listen to music via a high quality turntable, amp, dac, speakers, etc., when I can. But, at times I need headphones to keep from disturbing my wife. Haha. Anyway, these phones are a great upgrade. They give an honest, flat, response. It took some getting used to not having certain frequencies boosted, which lesser brands often do to make them sound ‘better.’ I plan to try them for mixing and mastering when I get a new project going.

I got the mix in my head.

By Craig Seavey from Fruitland Park, Florida on November 10, 2019 Music Background: Blues Musician and Pro-Tools Engineer

I have several models of headphones, Audio-Technica, Shure, and now the Sennheiser D-600. The other headphones are good for when I am recording things into Pro-Tools. When it comes time to mix things, that's when my Sennheiser headphones shine. I also use PreSonus studio monitors to hear the mix. Either way, monitors or headphones, I'm always proud of the results.

WYHIWYG

By Marc Epstein from Tonto Basin, AZ on October 20, 2019 Music Background: multi-instrumentalist, audio tech., Pro radio/TV production, home studio.

What you Hear is what you get. If you want to hear your music they way the performers meant it to be.. you will be thrilled! These cans are very revealing, natural and neutral. Perfect for tracking, or just enjoying your music. They do not overemphasize any portion of the audio spectrum. Some have said 'They have little Bass'.. These headphones present bass fully - just not forward. There is a reason these cans have been in production for over 20 years. They let you really hear the music. Since they are very revealing, if you listen to lossy [MP3, etc.] sources.. and at low bit-rates.. you will know .. However, if you listen to lossless sources recorded well, you will be greatly rewarded with awesome music! The sound is very detailed. Now, they do clamp fairly hard on your head [I have a hat-size of 'Medium']... What I did [and do this CAREFULLY], is to bend the headband backwards to stretch them out a little. If you do this GENTLY, yet firmly, the plastic will bend and provide you with less clamping. Just bend them a little at a time, and try them on until you are satisfied. These cans are an open design, and you will hear whatever sounds are around you. They are best for a quiet environment - all according to what you care to hear in the background. The cord is nearly 10 feet long. I personally don't mind, although I prefer around a 6 foot cord. You can purchase shorter third-party cords elsewhere. The cans are very light in weight! As such, they won't make you feel like you've got a bowling ball on your head.. I can listen for hours and enjoy my music. In order to really hear what these cans can do sonically, you really should purchase a GOOD headphone amp. They require a lot of power. If you don't, they may sound a bit muffled, less open and not nearly as impressive as with using an amp. I would recommend not using a tube headphone amp, as those will color the sound - depending on your usage. If you use the cans for tracking and such, you want the sound to be neutral and not colored. However, if your just enjoying some 'tunes', do what you like! Sound is such a subjective thing.. but in a studio setting, you want neutrality, not coloration. These comfortable Senn's are just Awesome.. !

Sennheiser HD 600 cans are wonderful

By Dan from Il on June 6, 2018

I had read so many reviews on these headphones. So many positive reviews. I just had my first listen with them today. They're fantastic. I am really looking forward to using them on my music productions. I listened to various artists and songs with them. I put on the alice in chains unplugged DVD and wow.... the separation and clarity was great. I put on some Eagles greatest hits and almost melted into my seat listening to those harmonies. Do what everyone else says at the end of their review - stop wasting time and get them! Also, I have to give a big ol' shout to sweetwater and both Bob Mondok and Colton Urban. Great service as always! :)

5 minutes of use...completely justified this purchase.

By Kerry Cox from Evergreen, CO on July 28, 2017 Music Background: Songwriter, producer, music library owner

I do a lot of early-morning music production (when the family is still sleeping!) so I felt like I needed to invest in some quality headphones. My ATH-M40fs had done fine for a while, but I wanted to see if there were better critical headphones out there. Still, $ is a good chunk of change...could these be 4 timers better than my $100 headphones? In a word: yes! Put on JT's "Can't Stop the Feeling" and I could hear individual voices in the group background parts. I could hear very specific tone changes in the individual BGVs. Everything seemed cohesive and yet I could pick out any instrument or voice quite easily. Cannot wait to create with these and then also to use them at various points in the mix/master process. I'm confident they will reveal things that I would miss listening through my near-fields. Very excited.

These headphones are one of the great ones, smooth sounds on highs and lows, no colorations at all, just pure clean sound from the highs to the miids to lows!

In my opinion they rival or match a pair of 35 thousand dollar speakers! And in my time of listening to all kinds of music, these headphones are top notch in performance and a must have for everyone who listens to music, don't wait get them now because your missing out if not thank you and enjoy!!!!
Definitely ten stars in performance!

Finally mixes TRANSLATE

By T wilson from Dallas,tx on June 24, 2017 Music Background: Mixing engineer, Producer

Well I have been using Yamaha hs8 for about 10 years, great sounding speakers for the price especially when you have learned them. My issue has always been the room. Even treating the room the best you can, the shape of the room, the height of ceilings, windows is a problem as I have a wall full in my studio. Unless the room were built for a studio you will have issues. Which is why I purchased these, after months of research and trying out or phones. These are EXCELLENT!

Sound quality is stunning, and that's listening through an ok preamp of an apogee element.
Frequency response is spot on. The moment I pulled up a previous mix, I heard issues in my mix that I just couldn't hear through my speakers.

They are clean and silky in high end
Mid range sits perfectly
And low in is nice and tight. This was my biggest problem and is what translate perfectly no matter where I listen to the mix.

Stereo image is also nice and open, but not artificial

Just buy, you want regret it. I will be getting a headphone amp, but can't imagine them sounding any better.

Phenomenal TRUTH cans!

By TaaDow from Pennsylvania on January 14, 2017 Music Background: DJ, Audiophile, Music Lover for Life

I really don't need to say much in my review because I would be repeating what so many others have said. I'm the type of guy that prefers a flat and true sound. I enjoy hearing music exactly the way it was produced to sound like. My amp/DAC has a "Direct Mode" that when checked gives me the audio, mostly lossless FLAC or Monkey's Audio, in its purest form straight from the source. Any time I'm listening to music that mode is always enabled. I don't even use any EQ's at all.

I'm addicted to these and also my pair of HD 650's. I bought lighter and shorter oxygen free cables for both pair. The longer and heavier stock cables are in the boxes safe from harm. If you want a good quality case for the 600 or 650 check out the Geekria EJB-0034-01 case. They fit perfectly in that great looking case.

The only negative I have to add is that I regret not getting these sooner. I've known about them for many years. Many hours disappear quickly with these on my head but I suppose I'm trying to make up for the time I've lost not being able to enjoy them.

10 out of 10 stars!

THE headphone for mixing

By Brandon from NJ on November 2, 2016 Music Background: Engineer

You can't go wrong having these headphones in your collection. They really open up mixes and gives the music space that closed back headphones just don't give you.

Deciding between these and the 650's really comes down to your application. These headphones sound flat and are there for great to mix on. The 650's are more suited to any audiophile who wants to "enjoy" music or even a movie. They have a great surround sound effect and really bring you into the audio. If you A/B the two, you may find the 650 more appealing, but ironically this is why it's bad to mix on per say, the sound is colored to be appealing vs being true and boring.

I went with this over the AKG's and DT808's because of their delicate high end that doesn't get sibilant like other headphones tend to. Also, the price to performance ratio buts so many brands to shame...Cough Beats Cough

Absolutely beautiful listening experience from these classic, reference-quality headphones! These are a step up from my 13-year-old HD580s, and I'm really spoiled now! Clean highs, just enough bass without any bloat, and that magical HD600 midrange! I've had this pair for nearly two weeks and have noticed some improvement in clarity during this break-in period. Looking forward to mixing home recordings! Comfort is first-rate as is typical of most Sennheiser models. THANK YOU MR. CHRIS AND SWEETWATER! ORDERED IT ON A THURSDAY AND HAD IT BY SATURDAY!!!

Best for Mixing

These are the best headphones ever. I was really surprised! It's like having 8" speakers in your ears. The truth

Great headphones worth the money

By Will from Nashville, TN on January 30, 2009 Music Background: Recording Engineer

I really like these headphones. I bought them cause I do live recording and the ocasional small orchestras. I have to say the openess of the sound is spot on.

The stereo spread is sweet not overly wide, but with a great recording it feels like they wrap around you. It really made my last live orchestra cd great cause I could accurately place the mics and know how it would sound to tape.

In live recording you have 1 shot to get it right and these gave me an edge I needed

Reliable neutral headphones that add details in music that can be hidden by closed backs.

By Claire Duggan from Tampa, FL on November 30, 2023 Music Background: Composing music about 8 years, home producer. Playing tuba since 12 years old and fumbling around with other instruments!

Enough reviews have been posted going over the details of these headphones already, so I won't go into too much detail! The open-back style gives everything spaciousness and openness that I have not heard with any closed back headphones or earbuds that I have owned. The sound is also very neutral as far as I can tell and they will work great with mixing.

My only very very VERY minor complaint is that I find the ear cushions to be a bit uncomfortable, as they can feel a bit itchy. I personally would have preferred a foam material over the fabric that they chose.

very good headphones

By Sweetwater Customer from Ohio on October 18, 2022

These headphones are great for what I needed which is mixing recordings, By using these my mixes have improved and with less work than before. I have to say the sales rep was spot on about these head phones also.

Very Good

By Sweetwater Customer from Michigan on February 4, 2022

This is my first pair of open-back headphones and I really like them, they are hard to drive with the 300 ohms but I bought a Schiit Magni Modi DAC AMP stack and they work very well. Songs, sounds, and everything sound better. Would recommend it if you want to get more out of your music.

Early impressions are very good

By Sweetwater Customer on July 14, 2021

I have a home studio and since my room is not acoustically balanced and I'm using small Event monitors, my mixes weren't translating to the car and CD players as well as I would've liked. So after researching mixing headphones, I landed on these.

I haven't had them very long but I like them a lot. I have done 1 mix so far with them and it definitely translates better than any of my previous mixes have. As advertised, they don't color the sound, the spacial imaging is faithful and I'm very happy I made the purchase. The only reason I gave 4.5 stars instead of the full 5 is that it's still early in our relationship and I haven't worked with them long enough to confidently say it's 5-star. That said, it's pretty darned close out of the gate!

Highly Recommended

By Travis M from Tacoma, Washington on February 8, 2021 Music Background: Producer

These are great. I wanted a pair of headphones for QC mixing and mastering that I could wear for long periods at a time. The sound is neutral and clear with no added coloration.

Hearing things I've never heard before.

By John Wallach from CA on August 15, 2020 Music Background: I don't play an instrument, but I've been a fan of classical music since my early teens.

Love these headphones. I'm a devote of symphonic and chamber music, and with these headphones, I'm hearing subtle nuances I've never heard before. During playback, I can actually zero in on instruments I've never noticed before.

Still reference quality

By Sweetwater Customer on June 24, 2019

The HD600 have been around for a couple decades. They aren't as hyper-detailed as some newer models, thankfully. They have a tonal balance that makes them easy to listen to and are resolved enough for critical listening. (sonically complete from top to bottom without any frequencies drawing undue attention). Definitely need a quality headphone amp to drive them though. They clamp tightly on your head but are quite comfortable. Since they are open backed, you don't get much noise isolation and they leak sound into your environment but the soundstage is open and spacious (for headphones)

Definitely for the audiophile

By Tony from Los Angeles on October 2, 2018 Music Background: Sound Engineer, Editor, & Mixer

These are incredible headphones. However; there are a few things that got me to the 4 & 1/2 stars rating. The open back means that everyone in the vicinity will hear what you are listening to, but provides some "space" to your listening. I have to use an EQ to get the sound dialed in just the way I like it. Thankfully these can handle everything I am driving them with. Without the EQ, they have just a little too much in the mids, and a little lacking in the low end. So my EQ takes care of that, and I am on my way to audiophile listening with a big smile! All of that said; I love these almost as much as my Sony MDR-V706's.

Crisp, flat response

By tortillas_y_frijoles from Earth on March 4, 2013 Music Background: Always learning

I guess you have to compromise volume for quality. The overall volume output is rather low. But maybe that's part of the noise-reduction technology.

For the price, i would expect sturdier cables coming out of these headphones. Other than that, it is built quite well and very comfortable to wear.

Great sound, great comfort

By Bob Meador on December 21, 2023

A nice upgrade over my old inexpensive Grados. Better comfort than the Grados, though not perfect. The sound is better, though I don't have the ears to tell you exactly how. I do find the open back lets a bit more external noise through so when playing guitar I hear some of the sound off the strings in addition to what's coming through in the phones.

My one complaint is the cord. It's exceptionally long and doesn't seem all that beefy. I imagine it's going to be the point of failure eventually. Also it's rubberized so it's a little clingy. Luckily it's easy replaceable.

I think this is a great price for a pair of audiophile-quality phones. They've been around a long time for a reason.

Great sounding Headphones

By Rockel Haye from Far Rockaway, NY on April 3, 2022

These headphones sounds so good. Best I have ever own. I rarely use my studio monitor because I dont hear much of a difference in sound quality using these headphone. I gave it a 4 star be of the wire that come with it. Wire look and feels cheap for the price you pay. Overall, love it.

Great, comfortable headphones

By Steven Hatfield from YORK, SC on January 11, 2022

These are great, comfortable headphones but when I ran a frequency test on YouTube, I couldn't hear anything past 12,500 Hz, where as my Klipsh desktop speakers were good to 18,000 Hz (which is probably the limits of my hearing), so their frequency range spec is a lie.

It's OK ... solid product ...

By Tom from North Little Rock, Arkansas on January 5, 2022 Music Background: woodwinds, location recording

Slightly thin, gritty, sandpaper quality to the music. This reminds me of the old Koss Pro4AA sound (1970s).

Lighter than usual bass and no super extended highs.

Not as musical and easy to listen to like some of the Beyer products like the DT990 Pro/250, (although I don't like the top end tizz on the DT990).

Low voltage sensitivity (300 ohm VC), so you may need an external amp (I am using Schiit amp and DAC).

Mostly all molded plastic, so I'd be careful with these.

Generous cord that is replaceable.

Doesn't come with a case or bag, so you will need to provide this yourself.

Comfort is average.

These are manufactured in Romania, not Germany.

My program sources are my own mininimally miced orchestra / band / choir sources using Schoeps / Neuman /AKG omni mics in good acoustic spaces.

Solid headphones with tons of detail

By Benjamin Burnside from TX on January 2, 2021

Make sure you have a really good headphone amp to push these. Oh, and make sure to let them break in.

They aren't super bassy or anything like that. They are very flat and what you hear is what you get.

Excellent, but...

By Sweetwater Customer on November 13, 2020

The Sennheiser HD600 headphones have excellent audio quality, as has been pointed out already by many reviewers. But the primary reason for my 4 star rating instead of 5 is due to comfort. I have an average size head, so was surprised at how tight and uncomfortable the HD600s were out of the box. The head band seems to be unnecessarily tight, and I expect this is a common problem on the latest edition of this model. I was able to carefully bend the band to relieve the pressure, and now they are very comfortable. I hope Sennheiser will address this design problem on future updates. I still prefer the fit and sound of my Grado SR225i phones to these, but will continue to use the HD600s, especially for recording and mixing.

Sounds amazing, a little uncomfortable

By Daniel Shoun from Zephyrhills, FL on July 23, 2020

I got these as my first open-back pair of headphones, coming from a pair of HD 280s. The difference in sound was immediately noticeable; especially in the low end and stereo width. With how great they sound, I could listen to them all day. Unfortunately, the discomfort they cause would make that a little difficult. Surprisingly they do not hurt my ears at all no matter how long I wear them, but the problem lies around the top of my head. It feels like the headband is always pushing down on me, and I frequently have to move it forward/back to a new spot to keep it from hurting too much. Overall, though, I'm very happy with them.

Getting a better mix

By Sweetwater Customer on May 3, 2020

These have a clean, clear response across the spectrum. Good headphones for mixing. Great bang for the buck. If you are mixing and want a good set of headphones without breaking your budget, these are the headphones.

Great headphones but not what I am used to

By Sweetwater Customer on June 24, 2019

I have used Sony MDR-7506 cans for years. I have other headphones but the Sony's are my main ones that I am used to. Because of this I think my ears have become used to the their bass response. The HD600 headphones sound crystal clear but appear to be lacking in bass. I assume it's due to what my ears are used to as the majority of people reviewing them seem to have no issues with the low end response. At first the band kept the cans a bit too tight on my head. After a little bit of stretching they are very comfortable now.
I guess I'll have to use these phones as an alternate reference due to what my ears are used to. Not what I intended when I bought them but I'm okay with that.

HD 600 VS DT1990

By Bud on September 12, 2020

I have the DT 1990 Pro and really like the sound with or without an amp. I read a lot of reviews on how the HD 600 was a great headphone. For me I didn't like he over powering mid and very little highs (A note regarding this I have some hearing loss at around 6k so to some the DT1990 may seem bright but not for me). The detail just wasn't there for me on the HD 600. Nice headphone just not for me. Hope this helps.

meh

By Sweetwater Customer on October 6, 2021

very disappointed w/ Sennheiser HD 600 cans for professional use.
Midranges are askew, bottom over enunciated, generally faux listening
experience. MUCH prefer my Grado SR 80s, 1/3 the price, and \, to me,
are the NS 10s of cans; unfortunately, Sweetwater doesn't carry the brand.
