My expectations are met

By Sweetwater Customer on February 26, 2024

Got this recently and so far very happy with my investment. Using it with Dearvr, to me it a complete solution for monitoring.

Also keep in mind, the HD 400 Pro is different sounding from the 560s which are manufactured after Jan 2023.

Lightweight & comfortable

By Jeff from Erie, PA on June 9, 2023 Music Background: Drums, live sound & recording

These open back headphones seem to have a flat frequency response and allow me to hear my surroundings while mixing.
It feels more like listening to monitors than being isolated with earbuds or something.
Comfortable and light enough to wear for a while without fatigue.

I love them

By Bill K from New York on February 7, 2023

I really love these headphones. Glad I bought them. They are perfect for mixing and do not give ear fatigue plus they're not too expensive. Will see how long they hold up.

And of course a BIG shoutout to Sweetwater. Been using these guys for I think over a decade and they never miss when it comes to customer satisfaction. Thank you Jānis Spunde and your whole team!

Great Reference Headphones

By Colin from PA on February 1, 2023 Music Background: Engineer/Producer

My least favorite things about mixing in headphones are pretty much all corrected when using these. The angled transducers provide the best stereo image that I have heard in headphones, and even provide a sense of phantom center. The frequency response is nearly flat, providing a very similar response to some of the well treated control rooms I've mixed in before. As a former user of the Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Ohm model, these provide a much more transparent low end response, and the high end is much less hyped (which is great). Overall these are my new favorite headphones and a very useful tool to have.

Excellent headphones.

They arrived quickly. Once I got used to the open back headphones, they are great to use and the fit over my ears perfectly. Another great product from Sweetwater.

Great sound and fit - Very pleased

By Mick from Port Orange FL on January 23, 2022 Music Background: Professional musician for 45 years and now a home recording artist

I saw a few reviews on these from some producers on You Tube. I did a lot of reading and research before I made the jump. I am very happy with my choice. The fit is great. All other over ear headphones I have owned, never had a large enough cup size and my ears got very cramped in the small cup. These fit over the ear nicely and my ear is not crushed inside the cup. I don't get the pain from my eyeglass ear pieces being crushed into my temples like I did from other headphones. The optional coiled versus straight cable is great depending on my choice for a place of "desktop" situation. I use them mainly for final mixing. Mixing in the family room on my laptop as my wife watches TV, I asked and she cannot hear any sound bleeding out no matter how loud I have them. I have remixed 2 songs and cannot believe the many changes I had to make from my initial mix because I heard so much more due to the frequency response and never got ear fatigue. When I unplug and check on any of my studio monitors, the sound is just as if I mixed with the monitors. Overall I am very pleased I made the decision to make the move to the HD 400 Pro. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to mix with headphones which has always seemed to have been a no-no in the past.

Great Cans!

I love the weight and the fact that the transducers are angled to simulate how the monitors are positioned.

Great job Sennheiser!

The Reference Headphones I Craved Have Arrived!

By Loma from Texas on December 28, 2021 Music Background: Recording Studio Owner/Engineer

For many years I have found myself wanting a set of phones that would not further compound sonic compression in a control room mix situation, and specifically a pair that would not sonically betray the neutrality of superior monitor speakers with some kind of manufactured audio personality.

Enter the Sennheiser HD 400 Pro Reference Headphones!
They are so different that it actually took me quite some time listening to various mixes before I became a true believer and I must say now that the addition of these phones to my mixing technique is a great improvement - especially in final decisions about various takes. The amount of detail and ability to discern more exact placements of panned elements in a mix is a truly awesome and relaxing experience with the open air, extremely comfortable headsets.

I do have a gripe though about the packaged cords that came with the headphones, though...
The coiled cord that came with the unit is too heavy for rolling around in the control room with chairs adjusting things without an accident here and there, and the straight cord (the one to use!) is too short to be of use rolling around like that! To compound woes, both cords of necessity have special lock ends where they connect to the headphones, so it is impossible to simply replace the straight cord with a longer one. So a headphone extension cord is the only way to go at the expense of other looming problems with that idea.

Overall, I don't think that anyone can get a pro headphone reference any better than this regardless of the price, and I could not be happier to have it!

Reference phones

I have different brands of headphones, none of them open back. The HD 400 Pro really have a very balanced and detailed presentation. Not hyped in any way but definitely revealing & definitely not drab or boring. I would recommend these for exactly what their suggested use is: editing, mixing & mastering. Excellent value & performance for the money.

not really new

By Mark West from OR on January 1, 2022

I found their just like the 560s, which are $ cheaper.no difference in the specs, the logos a different color but you only get 1 cord. on the plus side I can hear more than ever before, and that aint hay.
