Sweetwater is the best value proposition

By Wyatt Stafford from Killeen, TX on April 23, 2024 Music Background: classic rock cover band

I looked through several online bidding websites for the HD300. There were a number of used ones for sale, but... the best value, with free shipping, was a New pedal from Sweetwater. I Always check here when I'm hunting for a pedal.

holy moly

By james arisman from ridgecrest,ca on June 26, 2023 Music Background: intermediate player

just got this pedal a couple days ago and finally got around to plugging it in. wtf was i thinking...this has so much low tone, it is now my pedal of choice. i have a boss metal zone mt-2 and a behringer ultra metal, but this the dope. soooo glad i got this pedal (but my wife isnt). she takes a back seat to this bad ass pedal.

$ for THE Nu-Metal, down tune, monster?

By Bill McCloy from Arizona on May 25, 2023 Music Background: Lifelong beginner

It's a no-brainer! This baby has it's very own boost-all for your tone shaping pleasure! If you're not a klutz or a touring musician, it's plastic shell should pose no problem. It will. It will. Rawk you!!!

I'm returning my HM-2w Waza Craft

By Hirsty from New York on January 12, 2023 Music Background: Musician / Label Owner

This pedal sounds amazing! I was a little worried that it would get crushed or something, but I've had it on my board for a year and it's holding up great. No issues.

I bought the Boss HM-2w because I had some Christmas money, but I'm returning it. The build is great, but the sound is EXACTLY THE SAME!?!

Maybe you have better ears than me, but I would just save your money. Buy two of these pink stomp boxes if you are worried about it failing.

Just an FYI if you are looking for Shoegaze tones, this is the one you want. Add a DR600 and you are off to dreamland.

Four stars? You gotta be kidding me!

By Jimmy Crack Corn from Thereabouts on October 21, 2022 Music Background: Guitar Savant

Bass for days? Check. On-board boost? Check. More grunt and squeal than Ned Beatty in an extended, director's cut of Deliverance? Check. Less than thirty bucks? Check. Why did this pedal have only four stars (prior to this review)? Every rig creates different tonal interactions between components of that rig. For instance, most Boss dirt pedals (and their Behringer knock-offs) sound best through a tube amp. A Rat pedal or active e.q. or boost can remedy this with even the worst sounding transister amplifier. YMMV

Will it Chug?

By Kevin from S.B. CA on October 7, 2022 Music Background: Keyboards, synths, drums, guitar, recording, production

Indeed it does! Being on a tight budget while striving for a chugalicious tone, this pedal fits the bill nicely. The HD300 was featured on Ola Englund's distortion pedal shootout video and it happened to have the tone I was looking for, at a price I could afford. And as always, Sweetwater was there to fulfill my distorted needs.
Overall, I'm stoked with it! It shall suffice until I can afford the Boss Metal Core and/or the Revv G3.

Excellent distortion, for way cheaper.

By Aric Cuddy from SUMTER, SC on March 7, 2022

I bought this pedal just as a trial, to see if I wanted to buy other pedals. Well this product has impressed me. I was able to find I sound I loved(with little to no hum too) pretty quickly.

Pros:
Sound
Cost
Brand(Behringer has made some other good products)

Cons:
Plastic casing(but still durable)
How hard it is to install the 9v battery. This shouldn't be a problem for those who have a power supply.

Excellente pedal

By Sergio Urdaneta on June 7, 2021

Awesome pedal. Great sound. It is much better manufacturerted than I thought. Despite of been made of plastic is pretty solid and resilient. For the price is one great choice

Awesome

Sounds great. Even better price.

Behringer HD300

By Ivan M from Phoenix, AZ on October 21, 2019 Music Background: Hard Rock/Metal

I don't typically write reviews, but this time I felt compelled to. For the money, this is easily the best distortion pedal I've used. It has a little hum to it, but the quality of the sound more than makes up for it. It's the perfect, high gain distortion pedal for home use. Also, the shipping was fairly quick.

The Sweetwater team is also very good, very professional, and really know what they're talking about. It's a win-win if you ask me.

Great

By Charles Schumann from OK on May 18, 2019

Normally I don't write reviews but after ordering from this company I felt they deserved it. First the pedal. I'm still new to guitar so I don't know a lot but this pedal does everything I could ask for and sounds great. It took messing with but after a while I was able to get the exact tone I wanted out of it. Will definitely buy more pedals from them. Second Sweetwater. I've ordered a lot of stuff online over the years and I've never had a company of this size have someone personally call and say thank you for ordering from them. That right there does not happen anymore. That simple gesture made me a customer for life.

great spectrum of distortion

By MARK COURTER from GRANADA HILLS, CA on February 19, 2017 Music Background: A few cover bands over the years, home recording

I needed a pedal for a band audition. I got the cheapest one I could find, not knowing if I would get called back. No need to invest more. This pedal has everything I want, from a reasonably clean overdrive boost to outrageous distortion. The Tone and Bottom controls provide a dizzying array of tones, without sacrificing articulation. And it gets LOUD. By the way, I got called back. I'm 63, but ROCKIN'!

A Boost Before and A Boost After

By Tyler Gower from Butler, IN on October 10, 2022

So this thing on it's own has a very sludgy sort of doom metal sound to it. If you're looking for a pedal with good attack for chugging then this may not be for you. If you want more attacknout of it, you're going to want to run a boost or screamer into it. But otherwise it's a very fun pedal, especially if you're feeling doomy.

Boss HM-2 Clone

By R. R. Manwarren from USA on January 6, 2017

This pedal does a great job at sounding like the Boss Hm-2. I would buy an extra one as they are not the best build pedal, with that said you can buy four of these for every one used Boss HM-2 you come across.

Can't beat the price

By Rick from PA on May 26, 2022 Music Background: Oodles of Broodles

Wanna try the Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion sound without paying full price? Try this clone. Sure, the casing may not be the strongest, but what do you expect for $? Great distortion, especially for the price.

Heavy Fizz Low End

By Lonnie Critchfield from TACOMA, WA on March 6, 2022 Music Background: Just an aging punk rocker trying to love life. Jammed really loud and gigged for 10 or so years.

It's got boom-boom low end which is cool. But the style of the distortion is too fizzy for something I would want to use regularly. That bottom end boom-bump is kickass. It's for sure heavy. I'd personally like a bit more saturation and less boom...more punch, more scream on the highs. But that's being picky. For the price for something to -F- around with it's way cool. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I think some people might really dig it, especially working with the gain boost to make it thicker/meatier. For the price I won't get rid of it and will keep it for an extra flavor to use. For being all plastic it seems put together really well and durable. I like the color of it (I dig purples) and the variation in E.Q. possibility from it's knobs has a great spread. Not a bad pedal, just not the best sound for me.

Bingo

By Mike Thomas from Traverse City, MI on February 27, 2022 Music Background: 18 years extreme metal

Great range and simple distortion with the added bonus of beefing up the low end.

I went with this over the UM300 simply because I don't need the built in "eq" and the HD300's bottom boost is just enough for a practice amp. Plus, I was never a fan of the metal zone pedal.

It can get heavy sounds

By Sam Sturgill from Elizabethtown, KY on January 13, 2022

I love it.

Updated review

By MARK C from GRANADA HILLS, CA on April 20, 2017

I reviewed this box when I got it last month. in retrospect, I would have to add that it is a noisy stompbox, hums like crazy when not playing. Did I say a relatively clean overdrive? That's before I put it through a half dozen grueling rehearsals. Certainly not clean. Did I mention noisy? Makes conversation difficult between tunes. Having said that, I still think it generates some freaking fantastic tones. Definitely worth having, even though I may look for something that hums less. Certainly the best for the price.

Hit the wayback button

By shoemaker from Fairborn on August 6, 2016 Music Background: Making mistakes since 1969

Seems like if you rolloff a bit of treble, it's reminiscent of a Roland boss a heavy metal 2 pedal which I don't think is made anymore. By the way, they have a $40 imaging pedal similar to another discontinued product.

HD 300 , ITS A ROCK PEDAL

By Fuzzy Biggs from GREAT state of Texas on November 7, 2021 Music Background: Guitar player for many years, studio owner , live FOH engineer.

I was going to send it back, but I compared it to the blue channel on my EVH 5150 EL 34 50 W head. and it can sound a lot like it. its a little lacking in the mids but very close. keep the hi's cut back a little, it gets brittle with the hi's up. and I did not crank the boost , just the gain and a little of the bottom. to me this is more of a classic rock pedal than a metal pedal. great for Grand Funk and the like. for metal the um 300 is a better choice, its a good clone of the Boss mt2 metal zone. for 25 bucks the HD300 is a pretty decent rock pedal, there are better pedals for rock but at a much higher price . I mostly play heaver style rock / metal but once in a while its kinda fun rocking out on old school rock sounds. Rock on rockers.

No more Behringer pedals for me...

By Tim on June 17, 2022

The pedal case is made of plastic and I put it in the loop with my BOSS NS-2 pedal and all my other pedals in my Marshall DSL40 and instantly it had a buzz/grounding issue... replaced it with my Metalzone pedal and the buzz quit, hooked it back up and it had a buzz. I guess that's what you get for a cheap pedal. Had a good sound...

Unusable Garbage - Don’t Bother

By Jason from Syracuse, NY on May 18, 2021 Music Background: Teacher/Performer - 20+ years

I'm no snob and it was only $... but even still, this pedal is straight-up junk. I got it out of curiosity as a possible replacement for my MD-2 that was destroyed, but it's going straight in the junk pile. The overall design is acceptable & the plastic housing doesn't bother me, but the sound quality on every level is awful.

The cheap circuitry is instantly and painfully obvious. Very thin, grating tone (even with the bottom) and definitely one of the noisiest pedals I've ever played.
I tweaked & dialed-in all day but I just couldn't squeeze a decent tone out of it. I'd say it's ok for beginners but even beginners need decent, usable gear.
