This Stand is exceptional, everything about it is of top notch quality and design, no other stand comes close.

I've had these for about a year now. As every other review has stated, they're amazing.

However, they DO come at the cost of weight. I didn't take that into consideration when buying them, and I have five of them. So I have a hard plastic rolling hardware case JUST for these, and then a second hardware bag for "everything else". If you're like me and have a lot of cymbals, you might want to take that into consideration.

But, once they're out of the case, they're SO easy to set up, and you have the utmost confidence that they're NEVER going to fall over.

I had bought a similar Star stand before(Tama HTC107W). I was really impressed with the quality and weight of this stand, ease of setup for height, angle, etc. I needed another one but without the tom mount. The HC103BW is just as impressive. I do not mind the weight as I would rather have my stand staying in position on a soft pile carpet than falling over. Very stable and heavy enough it does not require counter balancing. Sure I have several of the heavy duty DW stands (9000 series) which are great stands too. I found the Tama Star products to be much better in design. A bit more expensive than the DW 9000 series but to me it was worth the cost.

I am going to compare to this stand with the DW 9000 series stand. The TAMA Star stand offers adjustment angles that dw does not. The head piece that holds the cymbal allows to adjust the cymbal at any angle in 3 dimensions. The dw stand is fixed which adjusts the head at any angle in a 2d plane. The TAMA star reduces the wing nuts to 2 while dw utilizes 3. TAMA has a bearing on top of the stand that rotates 360 degrees which allows you to move your arm in just about any angle. The TAMA stand has a quick release for the felt pad which makes swapping out cymbals faster and easier. The only take away on the stand is it is heavy and the most expensive stand. However, it is worth it as long as you have the money.

What can I say about these stands that hasn't already been said? ...Quite a bit.

At first, I laughed at the price for these, who would actually pay this much for a piece of metal that doesn't even make a sound?

My background: I've had maaaaaaaany hours ("years" are not an accurate unit of measurement for experience/skill, we all take breaks/get sick etc.) of live and recording experience so I absolutely know for certain what does and does not ACTUALLY work for drummers!

Allow me to explain:
Every single feature these stands are equipped with have legitimate functional use! Most drum companies seem to toss as many gimmick-y ideas on their products as they can to rip every last dollar away from your innocent, helpless, cracked and callused hands. Not Tama – they 100% knocked these out of the park.


These suckers are heavy and that's a good thing! A few extra lbs (not inside you) never killed anyone.


You can finally gig with that super special Spizzichino ride you've been cradling since the day you sold your house to buy it :) Once these are planted firmly on the ground it would take the power of a thousand suns to knock them over. SuperSickSide benefit: I doubt anyone would steal these as most thieves aren't jacked enough.


They are fully equipped top-to-bottom with memory locks on every single adjustment point so you never have to worry about the dread of setting up and getting it perfect (while infuriating your bandmates for taking too long) at a gig/session ever again!


Having total universal control over the boom arms placement with just one wingnut is an engineering marvel. I'm frankly embarrassed that I used to be fine with not having this level of flexibility in the past. The boom arm alone deserves a Nobel Prize but I digress...


I'm totally confident these stands will survive any possible scenario you could put them in and look good while doing it! These are just simply beautiful to look at. Sleek with just the right amount of shine, all the bends in the bracings scream engineering, quality, and USABILITY!

You can put these stands incredibly close together as a result of those bends, you will never slam your stands down in a fit of rage again because the legs kept getting caught or weren't playing nice with other stands.

I loved the first one I bought so much (not having been totally convinced prior to ordering but curiosity got the best of me) and, well... I immediately ordered up the rest of Sweetwater's supply. Catch me on the corner of your local street begging for cash while my Iron Throne of Star Stands glistens behind me.

This stand is the most versatile boom I've ever owned. It adjusts in almost unlimited increments, and stays put once the wingnuts are tightened. Its a very stable but heavy stand and is probably best for studio or home use. The quality is top tier.

This stand won't move. It carries my heavy 22" ride (around 3400 gram I believe) and it doesn't wobble or show any instability. Pricy and heavy, yes, so if you're concerned about moving this from gig to gig, you may want to look at a different option. But for home or studio use, you can't go wrong with this. It comes with the nice Tama felts that have minimal cymbal contact and their quick clips instead of the wingnuts you always lose.
