Eventide H90 Harmonizer Multi-effects Pedal - White Reviews

Multi-FX Pedal with 70 Algorithms, MIDI In/Out/Thru, USB Functionality, Software Editor, Tap Tempo, 2 Expression Inputs, Bluetooth, and Tuner - White

Eventide’s H90 Harmonizer re-defines the sonic possibilities of a multi-effects pedal, seamlessly merging the studio-level versatility of Eventide’s flagship H9000 rack unit with the streamlined form factor of the H9 Max pedal. The H90 Harmonizer starts with all of the 52 algorithms found in the H9 Max pedal — all derived from the same ARM-based architecture found on the H9000 — then tops off this formidable foundation with 18 all-new algorithms for even greater versatility. Beyond that, the H90 boasts a significantly expanded control set compared to the H9 Max’s single-knob setup: five push knobs; seven LED buttons; a trio of footswitches; and a high-resolution OLED display are designed to allow for instant mid-song adjustments without compromising on the Harmonizer series’ deep editing options, further enhanced via the H90 control software. True to its rack unit heritage, the H90 is finished off with a massive level of I/O configuration options, including MIDI in/out/thru, two expression pedal inputs, and USB functionality to personalize and tweak your setup.

There is no substitute

By Yontz S.

If you've relied on the H3000 or any of the factor pedals before for your sound and are contemplating this unit, just get it. You will be saving yourself time as you will eventually get one anyway. It's like having two H3000s with near instant load time.

NOT USER FRIENDLY!

By Sandcastle M. from California
Music Background: Songwriter/Musician 30+ years

Never in my over 30 years of creating music in my studio have I ever worked with a piece of gear that leaves you guessing so much as to how to use all of it's features. The extensive documentation goes on and on about all of the features of the H90, but doesn't give you the slightest clue as to how to use many them. I've owned many guitar effects floor pedals and rack units that were just as good, if not better than what comes with the H90, and at lower prices.

Getting a signal directly out of this box into my audio interface and DAW is difficult, if not impossible.

Magic spice for guitars and synthesizers

By Ben P. from Carmichael
Music Background: Producer, guitarist, synth enthusiast

I wanted Eventide effects and waited for the new H90 to run dual effects at a time versus buying the separate Eventide pedals. It sounds amazing! The Space Echo and pitch algorithms are to die for. Brings me to new places in playing guitars and synths. Lots of routing options make this a powerful studio tool and far less expensive than its big brother the H9000. I do recommend the ipad app to make programming it far easier. My only complaint is the manual interface without the app has tons of combos and takes time to figure out. With the ipad app it makes using it far easier.

Back to hardware fx

By Sweetwater Customer

After 25 years of moving away from hardware toward in-the-box, I almost can't believe I'm returning to buying hardware outboard fx processors. But here I am. I got my first H90 for my pedal board. And its quality is so outstanding, and the demos showing the new vocal algorhythms are so enticing, I just ordered a second H90 to live on the vocal chain.

FANTASTIC EFFECTS PEDAL!

By Steven B. from RATHDRUM, ID

The Eventide H90 is a fantastic multi-effects pedal. I love the dual tracking capabilities. I have been routing my electric guitar through input 1, and use inputs 3 & 4 to route the H90 as outboard gear to my mix preamp. This allows me to use the pedal with my other instruments in my mix. I really appreciate the Eventide controller software, giving you access to all of the hardware's parameters. What a great feature!

The good is great. The bad is annoying.

By George from Ohio.
Music Background: Student, sometimes performer.

The good: This pedal is the most versatile thing you will buy that also has the best sound. There are many other effects pedals out there but none can produce the quality of sounds this pedal can. I started using it on bass guitar but moved to vocals.

Not only is it versatile for a number of instruments but you can connect multiple instruments and effects loops at once.

Nothing can do what the h90 does at the quality the h90 does it.

The bad: The learning curve is Mount Everest high. The computer and iPad software is equally as confusing and janky. There is no phone software. An example of the handiness is the pc will fail to recognize the pedal unless the wires and unit are connected and powder in the proper sequence. What is that sequence. I have no idea. It's trial and frustrating error. The iPad software you have to open the program while in landscape. It's won't run in portrait and if you try to just turn it sideways after the program is running it'll cut off the bottom controls.

You can only run two algorithms. This is probably the biggest reason to NOT get an H90. Most algorithms have multiple effects in them but if you wanna run a compressor, distortion, chorus, pitch shift, delay, and reverb at once for whatever reason… no.

Lastly. Where is the DI? That's the big one for me. This would be my entire pedalboard if it had a DI output.

Finally: There's nothing else I would buy to replace my h90 because nothing can. It's frustrating that there are the annoyances above but it's still the best sounding pedal money can buy. For vocals especially it is the gold standard. Nothing can beat its harmonizer and pitch correction.

Eventide H90

By Sweetwater Customer from WY

has alot of very cool effects, some are great, some not so great,it really needs an on\off switch and XLR outs for running to mixer, would be nice if it had some master tone controls, bass, mid, and treble,on the face of the unit so one doesn't have to menu dive,i do like the unit, wish it was a bit less pricey. After watching some vids on the Headrush Flex prime, perhaps that was what i was really wanting, the problem is that the local music store in town never has any products like these to demo.

Mind Blowing

By D S. from Midwest USA

This is one of, if not the best pedal in my collection, and believe me, I have some very heavy hitters in my collection. I have been totally blown away by the sound modifying options this pedal offers, and I have only begun to scratch the surface of what this thing will do. Great product!

Good effects. Unfortunate interface.

By Chris from OKC
Music Background: Middle Aged Noise Merchant

I thoroughly enjoy Eventide's effects. Most of the algorithms on the H90 are ported over from the Factors and H9. So, the majority of these FX are +10 years old (probably more like 15?). They still sound better than a lot of current devices and multiFX I've used, and some of them can do things that are only possible with Eventide algos. The newer ones that have been added are also quite good. On paper the H90 should have addressed my issues with the H9--more direct, onboard control, more simultaneous effects, more connectivity, improved pitch shifting (still not quite as good as EHX or DigiTech in my experience, but better than the H9/PitchFactor), improved ADA conversion (maybe more headroom?)... but I just cannot get along with the interface, unpleasant software, and the seemingly unnecessary multiple operating modes.

At first I logged a week of hours struggling to set the H90 up for my live workflow. I kept finding myself unable to get the volume and intensity of the FX appropriately balanced. Digging through pages of screens and HotKnobButton functions and not getting to the correct mode. After several months of working with it and finding myself trying to avoid it, I just went back to the H9s for live use. I honestly prefer using the simplicity and single knob of the H9.

Currently, I use the H90 tabletop with some other devices for sound design and experimenting. I'm hoping I'll get past some of my hang ups and maybe find it indispensable or reintroduce it to the live board at some point.

4.5 stars for effects, 1 star for operation and interface.

It's Amazing and Extremely Flexible.

By Michael L.
Music Background: Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, 70's Funk, Country, Just about Anything!!

Words honestly can't describe how good it really is.

I've had it a few weeks and it is so much fun. the first thing to impress me was the presets even before I had it. I listened to many multi effect processor pedals on videos and in general you have 8 to 10 patches you like from the start out of a 100 or more. With the Eventide H90 I was into patch numbers over 50 that I had only had a few I wasn't bonding with. I would highly recommend the H90 to anyone!! The H90 has lots of competition on my pedalboard and seems to be getting alone with everything else just fine!! I gotta go, I'm trying to split the Space Time Continuum!!

Amazing pedal but with a steep learning curve

By GC from Seattle

The H90 is more than two H9 pedals strung together. There are more routing options, more effects ("algorithms," "presets"), more control options, and a leap forward in complexity and options. The Eventide effects already provide a huge array of sounds and ways to craft sound, and the H90 is based on combining two of these together. Honestly, given the depth, flexibility, and breadth of the effects, a single algorithm/preset is equivalent to a deep effects pedal, with all being really high quality. Now, imagine having a choice of 63 (currently) algorithms and the myriad ways they can be combined and routed.
Even having used two H9 pedals for a few years, it has been a challenge to explore and integrate into your setup. (I'd advise spending time with individual presets/algorithms as if they were a new pedal and explore what they can do before moving on; Eventide's tutorials on their dot9 series pedals – black hole, ultra tap, tricerachorus, micropitch – can be a great place to start as the effects are the same in the H90).
Eventide were great with introducing new effects with the H9, and they've continued that tradition with the H90, having added a handful since the H90 launch (including a really cool tape modulation one last month) with more to come later. It's like getting a free effect pedal out of the blue.
Yes, this is an investment, but I've been viewing it as a full toolbox for pretty much any effect (so much more than a Swiss army knife) and it can hold it's own with so many effects, especially if you focus on the end results rather than emulations, as everything has a particular Eventide flavor and philosophy. The effects are all world class, although all are distinctly Eventide (and you may simply prefer another flavor). It has replaced a number of pedals on my board (delays, reverbs, modulations), and it's flexible enough that I have also been able to *avoid* buying some shiny new effects (tape delays, tape modulations, pitch shifters).
Is it worth the investment? In money? In time? For me, yes. I also am factoring in future effects and continuing to explore the current ones. Will it sound exactly like pedal XY? No, but that's maybe ultimately a good thing as it prompts you to explore new effects and even new sounds. For example, some of my main, almost-always-on effects are ones that I'd initially not been interested in – until I discovered what they actually did.

Not worth the Investment...

By Colin S. from Castle Rock, CO

I really wanted to love this as there are so many artists that use the H9 (or even two) and rave about these pedals. In hind sight I do remember a lot of reviewers complaining slightly about the user interface of the H9 and how the H90 allows you to changes a lot of settings on the front panel...

While that may be technically true, they did a HORRIBLE job of implementing it. Both the front panel and the software for the H90 are some of the worst user interfaces I've ever encountered. And I write software for a living...

I think anyone who uses this pedal successfully must spend hours and hours figuring out how to use it and configure it. I didn't find that any of the sounds coming from this unit made it worth the investment of time in learning how to use it.

Not for me at all. It has already been returned and I would not recommend it to a friend.

So many possibilities, a couple of omissions

By EricH from SACRAMENTO, CA

The sound quality and flexibility are awesome. The routing options and inserts help me integrate this rig into my larger setup. A couple of improvements could be made. While the Tricerachorus and H910 chorus are great, the main chorus algorithm kinda sucks. If you need it wobbly or phasey, it's fine but it should be easier to get emulations of the CE-1 (including a preamp option) and SCF (my cheap Nux does this) and 1210. The 1210 may need a separate algorithm but since this there is a plugin version of the 1210 and this pedal is basically a collection of plugins, this should be doable. The delay options are great but the multitap/ultratap are hard to use. It should be easier to get a circular and pan delay (PCM 70). Even the DD-500 can do this without too much trouble.

H90

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: songwriter

I did a lot of research before buying this pedal. What i didn't realize is that its meant to be at the heart of your pedal board. I run strymon pedals and i like the sound from my FX loop of my amp through my pedals way more then what this pedal has to offer. I wasn't a fan that it required a pc to really get in depth on it either.. If you have a pc setup and don't think bucks is a lot of money, id get it as a demo and try it out. i returned mine after a day.. just wasn't for me. Thanks sweetwater.

Best pedal I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot!)

By BenG from Colorado

I came here today to specifically write a review for this amazing pedal. I'm a gigging musician, doing mostly solo gigs with a Taylor acoustic and a Music Man John Petrucci model (with the piezo in it; works great for solo 'acoustic' gigs btw). I had an Eventide H9 max, but felt I wanted to upgrade to this model. I am very happy I did. I hooked it up to the board, and added two mini expression pedals which can change assigned parameters on the fly. I can assign which parameters change on either of two effects which the pedal can play simultaneously. I use the H90 control on a laptop to edit, create and arrange the order of the presets for my performances. I had to put in about 2 weeks of learning and programming the system, but my experience with the H9 was very helpful, as are the customer service people at Eventide forum. They always answered my questions promptly, thoroughly and respectfully.

The build quality seems tough and constructed for gigging use.

The sound and quality of the effects are of an incredibly high quality and completely inspiring. The control over the parameters allows for a custom sound that is very personalized. I can do anything from other worldly delays and modulations, synth tones ala classic Fripp/Belew, all the harmonies you can imagine, to very standard and work-a-day effects. I run a stereo signal which I highly recommend; the panning and stereo signal is wide and lush, and it opens up many more sonic possibilities. There is much more I could write, but that should give you an idea; this thing is FANTASTIC!

Only one thing would I change, and that is I would have an option to make the Tap Tempo display larger. As I perform, if I have a specific numbered tempo I'd like to tap in, the readout is too small for me to easily see it. But that is about all that comes to mind.

It is a lot of money. In spite of that obstacle, it has been totally worth it. The sounds make a big impression on the audience, and inspire me to keep reaching.

Not more than the sum of its parts.

By Keith

The H90 is basically two H9s crammed together. No H9 control (you have to use a PC to edit), and the algorithms are a bit long in the tooth. For this kind of money, there are much better options out there.

Amazing Pedal!

By Tim

Whats not to like...It's an Eventide. Just got this about a month ago so still learning all the tricks. I found both the app and the module easy to learn and intuitive. It has replaced several "low use" use pedals and has given me additional delay options which is great. This is a keeper! You'll love it.

Stunning tones and effects

By Steve K.
Music Background: home studio junkie

I have always been a fan of Eventide but never thought i'd have the need. Added this to my recording desk workstation in the effects loop of my guitar processor/modeler. Works amazingly well in the processor's effects chain to add atmospheric flavor to my tones, but also works amazingly well on its own with no other effects for adding more presence to my recordings. I'm sure i'm not using the H90 to its fullest as it would be a huge addition to my pedalboard as well! Programming and config of this box is super intuitive but also amazingly deep. Because it's on my recording rig it took me a bit of time to get used to lack of power on/off button - but that's what you want on your pedalboard!! Really fell in love with this box !!

Takes some time but awesome

By Kyle F. from NICHOLASVILLE, KY
Music Background: Hobbyist and gear nut… great escape from the day job

So I've had this about two weeks. I've really done a deep dive over the last couple of years with digital effects.

Eventide does things right. There's no denying their pitch effects are unparalleled and I really like all the others too. If you have a switcher this thing is incredible. I wasn't sold on it until I figured out the advanced routing features and then Bang. Brilliance!

So I have a mono path connected to switcher thru In/Out1 and then a stereo path connected to switcher in In/Out 3/4. Use Dual mode in H90. With the movable loops on G3 I can place any effect anywhere in the signal chain. If before the amp(or modeler) I can use the mono path (for pitch, uni-vibe, phaser I like before drive). Then any stereo effects can go after the amp IN STEREO!! Just click a button on routing page and select where you want them.

Nothing else does this. Look at mobius/terraform/Boss md-500. They all have a way to do pre/post but only in mono.

Eventide really thought out the routing and it's brilliant (after I was able to wrap my mind around it).

H90 control also works great after figuring out its workflow which wasn't super obvious. This setup I have rivals my other modelers I've tried (QC, FM9, helix) if your someone who likes using the individual pedals.

Underwhelming for the Price

By Daniel F. from Houston, TX
Music Background: Studio Musician / Composer /Engineer

I am a long time Eventide Factor and Space pedal user. I have all four. So i had big expectations based on the hype for the H90. Seemed logical that it would be much better after the H9, and many years since the Factor pedals came out. So here goes after 2 hours of playing with the unit, and about the same studying the manual before it arrived. The DSP buffered output mode does not sound good. It adds a sterile harshness to the tone that i really didn't like. You can switch that off by selecting the relay bypass mode, but you lose the spillover tails by doing so...bummer. The SP2016 reverb was something i was really looking forward to playing with. I have the Eventide SP2016 plugin and i use it a lot for vocal and acoustic guitar playing / recording. It sounds fantastic, my fav Reverb plugin. The SP2016 sounds good on the H90, but not the same for some reason. It has a harshness like too much presence in the tone that is not there on the plugin. Could be that passing through my effects loop has something to do with it, but none of my other pedals have that problem. And then there is the disaster of an H90 control software program. I now understand why you couldn't download the program until after you bought and registered your pedal. It's really confusing and difficult to work with...clearly written by some guy in India that has probably never played a guitar before..so much software like that these days. The H9 control software is so much easier to use. Basically i hate the software workflow of this pedal. Not that i can't figure it out, but it's work...I wasn't looking for a hobby to create presets on an H90. Another issue i found is that you can't connect the pedal through a USB hub. It has to be connected directly to your computer USB ports. This is a problem for me as i use a USB Hub to route all my studio effects to my computer, the Factor / Space pedals, and others, work fine this way. Last but not least, the I/O connectors are too close together making it hard to put this pedal on a pedal board...you have to run all straight connector patch cables or they won't fit. So bottom line, it does sound a little better than the original Factor / H9 pedals in general, but not always and there are a variety of technical issues. You might want to just keep your current Factor / H9 pedals if you already have them, unless you really have your heart set on this one. Knowing what i know now, and for the price, i would pass.

Sounds great, not user friendly

By Brian G. from SOUTH WEBER, UT
Music Background: Musician, engineer

Super powerful next-gen H9* that can run two algorithms at once. Better onboard edit capabilities than the H9. Way more routing and setup options than the H9 as well. Endless possibilities. Of course it sounds great...it is loaded with all of the standard Eventide algorithms and the audio/signal path is pristine. Unfortunately, that is where my love affair with this pedal ends...
I was super disappointed that there isn't a tablet app for this like there is for the H9. The H9 app made the pedal super easy to configure and was feasible to have handy on a gig. Eventide's first answer is to use the controls on the pedal to edit everything. Right...while it is better editing on the H90 than the H9, it is super clunky and frustrating to use the controls on the pedal for editing. Enter the H90 Control app for Windows and/or Mac. I find the Windows/Mac software to be nearly as clunky as using the pedal. Easy to edit parameters, a major pain to setup lists and presets. That and the fact that the app crashes almost every time I click "Save". I haven't tried the Mac software yet but the Windows version crashes all the time (and I have a newer laptop with Windows 11 Pro). The other pain with a laptop app is that I don't see having a laptop accessible on stage if I need to do some more complex patch changes during a set. Once again, you can do this from the pedal itself but again...clunky.
Once I finally figured out the program/preset methodology in the app, I was finally able to get some nice patches going but it should not be this difficult...and I'm a tech person...I make my living making complex technical things work.
Now that I have all my go-to patches setup, the sound is excellent and the flexibility and customization options for all the algorithms is great. I will probably enjoy this pedal in the long run but be aware...not for the faint of heart when it comes to the tech stuff and the lousy UI (both onboard and the app). I love Eventide products but unfortunately, I can't rate this any higher than 3 stars given the lack of a user-friendly interface. What were they thinking???

Looks good, not perfect, but pick of the litter

By Retired S.
Music Background: Pro, retired

Eventide H90 Harmonizer Multi Effects pedal looks great. However, one fellow seemed to have a severe problem with one unit. I have experienced fail units from every manufacturer but not often. I suspect there is a failure rate for the best of equipment. I would take my chances with the Eventide H90 however. The pluses outweigh the minuses. The objection out of the way. Here is what I like: 1 - The ability to use more than one effect at a time. 2 - The high quality sound of the effects. 3 - The significant improvement over the H9. 4 - Ability to dial in sounds effectively with pedal itself or software. 5 - Easily adjustable parameters from from dial on pedal or expression pedal feature. 6 - Routing options for guitar or bass. 7 - Spillover and instant switching, no latency. 8 - Everything can be done in one unit, no need to have two units as with the H9. H9 users will want the H90.

Almost Wrecked My Amp!

By Jeff K. from SUMMERVILLE, SC

After a 3+ month wait, I finally received the H90. Read through the quick start guide and connected it to my guitar and amp. Started scrolling through the various effects. Most of them sounded really thin and reedy. I figured I could probably adjust that more to my liking through the software. However, on at least two of the effects there was a split second EXTREMELY loud blast of sound followed by silence. Then the blast of sound came again. I was playing through a Princeton Reverb amp with the volume on 3, but the sound was so loud it was as if the amp was dimed. I'm surprised it didn't damage the speaker. That was it for me. Back in the box it went and back to Sweetwater. Kudos to Sweetwater for their return policy. At least that part of this experience was positive. The H90's have been hard to get and I was hoping for great things, but I am extremely disappointed. I don't know if Eventide rushed them through manufacturing and shipped some out with defects, but I've learned my lesson. No more digital junk. I have two cumbersome pedalboards packed with analog pedals. Was hoping to use the H90 as a replacement for the majority of those pedals, but obviously that won't be happening. Even though the pedalboards are a pain to lug around, they are what I'll use exclusively from now on.

At $ it's by far the most expensive pedal I've ever bought. But it's worth it. I'm selling my BigSky, SLO, and Mercury7 to cover it. Don't need those anymore. Powerful Processor

By Hatch from New Orleans
Music Background: Professional

I have had the H90 for about a week and I must say that it lives up to the Eventide reputation for world class effects. The presets are fantastic and easy to tweak. I found the sweet spot in my rig ( Quad Cortex to FRFR )by placing it in the FX loop on the Quad Cortex. The quality and warmth is outstanding. I have a ways to go in operating the unit as far as getting maximum flexibility, setting up live functions and set lists and ect. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that the inner workings of this unit are not very intuitive to me, so I need to read manual and watch some tutorials to get the maximum results, however it really does sound great right out of the box.

Worthy successor to the classic H9!

By Robert S. from Medford, OR

The H90 is proof Eventide listens to its customers. I'm coming to the H90 having been a H9 user for the last seven years. I LOVE the H9 and only had three minor gripes about it.

I wanted to be able to run more than one algorithm at the same time. I wanted spillover when switching from one preset to another. And I would have liked a smaller gap in audio when switching presets. And if I'm really aiming high, it would be cool to be able to run it in 4-cable method so I can run algorithms before or after the amp.

I'm thrilled to say the H90 fixed ALL of those! Switching presets is instantaneous, true spillover is gorgeous, and the flexibility is unbeatable, allowing me to run two algorithms (each with multiple effects) anywhere I want in the signal path in series or parallel.

Added bonus, it sounds better than the already stellar-sounding H9. It's hard to put into words, but the effects sound more HD, more pristine. It is quite noticeable. The 12 new algorithms are fantastic, as one would expect from Eventide.

Some say $899 is steep, but I don't see it that way. It's far cheaper than two H9s and gives you vastly more power and flexibility. Thank you, Eventide, you really knocked it out of the park with the H90. And thank you, Nate Hutson (my Sweetwater rep) for hooking me up!
