Highly Recommended!

By Michael Gumley on November 11, 2022 Music Background: Owner & Head Teacher at Melbourne Guitar Academy

I've been using Guitar Pro since 2006 and it gets better with every version.

I recommend GP for guitarists of all levels and backgrounds. I use it for both learning and for teaching, and used it to create the diagrams and musical examples for over 12 published books!

Guitar Pro 7.5 - Easy to Get Started - Highly Recommend

By Bob H. from GA, USA on March 29, 2022 Music Background: Piano, Trumpet, Guitar

So far, this application is meeting all my expectations. I tried another program before purchasing this Guitar Pro 7.5. I am new to using music notation software. The downloading and installation of the program was very smooth. I purchased this program for a specific purpose, i.e. to copy or input existing music and then raise the music one octave. I've done a couple of songs and have found it very intuitive to use.

I started trumpet and piano as a child and recently took up the guitar during the pandemic. While playing, I like seeing both standard music notation and tablature. Especially, helpful is the tablature while playing very high or low notes. My guitar teacher was very impressed with the output. This is really helpful for me to play music farther up the fretboard; while, I practice playing scales all the way up - playing melodies up there really helps me learn the entire fretboard.

There is still a lot for me to learn about the application, but I believe it to be an outstanding tool.

Great program

This is a great software! The sweetwater team also went above and beyond to make sure everything went well with my order, that the product is what I expected it to be and even took interest in my projects! A1 service!

Easy navigation and user friendly

By Sweetwater Customer on August 24, 2021

Navigation is easy and the menu items make sense and flow well. If I would enhance anything it would be the sound interface, it needs easier navigation.

Love the Product!! BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE HERE IS UNREAL!!

By Sergei OSullivan from Bozeman, MT on December 14, 2020 Music Background: Guitar

This is usually not the place to leave reviews about the customer service staff, but my god, are they GREAT or what!!! My man Seth helped me out in troubleshooting access to an activation code and it helped tremendously!!
Well Done Seth, and Well Done to the rest of the crew at SweetWater!!! absolutely loved the help. 10/10 will recommend and will be back to buy more!

Added fun to my training

By Grampa Mack from Murfeesboro, Tennessee on December 13, 2020 Music Background: Advanced Beginner

My instructor uses Guitar Pro during my instruction. As he has used GP I have been able to use it during my practice and fun times for many exercises and creating many new tracks and licks. I even use this during my jamming time with my buddies. The instructions are easy and it is easy to use. Wished I bought this sooner. Definitely has helped my playing.

Guitar Pro7, buy it!

By Chris E from Philadelphia on May 13, 2020

As a relatively new player, GP7 makes practice so much easier (& much more fun), consequently I'm practicing more & progressing much faster....

Very cool software to write tab/score with and to learn tab/score from!

By Evilstalkerhorne from Iowa on January 23, 2020 Music Background: Everything for the last 25-30 years~

I bought this to use with a Fretlight guitar when learning new pieces. It does what it says and does it well once you set it up which takes a bit of work. I had to write Fretlight and they fixed my issue. I also can use my Triple Play to write score real-time which I have yet to attempt but have been watching videos learning how to do this. There are many people who have score or tab for almost any piece so you can download them which is GREAT but what I did not think of or expect was this... YOU CAN CONVERT THE TAB/SCORE TO MIDI!!! This means that if you have a DAW that supports VST's like Studio One which I do have already... now you can take any song you downloaded score or tab for and assign it a midi VST. BOOM! Now you have pretty much the backing tracks in about 10 min for that song!!!! This means that you can learn while playing with a band even though you have no band!!!! Sure you can just download a midi file, tweek the sounds all like this but that midi file most likely is not correct. Many times the parts are wrong durations, orders or just wrong tempo the list goes on, but since this way of making the midi means someone had already painfully nit picked these issues most likely they need minimal adjustments other than giving them real VST sounds. I used Addictive Drums2 and GuitarRig5Pro as well as Studio One standard plugins. It is the closest thing to having the album tracks with the least amount of work that I have ever seen! Furthermore, if you write with others and want them to learn your stuff not just by ear and half correct you can record it, in the DAW save it as Midi then send it to them and they could make backing tracks of your original songs! Theoretically, you could have a band that never played in one room together play great the very first time you actually met exchanging files this way! That opens up MANY MANY advantageous situations that were not available even 5 years ago. VERY COOL SOFTWARE and it's strongest point is that it works in tandem with other great software which all are here on Sweetwater.com!! One possible use for this kind of writing/playing is that a person could write their music, exchange it with many musicians across a vast area that want to play with said musician. Once they all can play the songs you could send one or two people physically to the other part of the world practice once or twice and do a group of shows. Then send one or two people to another spot on the other side of the world if you wanted to and repeat! Lots less money and planning than having same 5-10 people all over every set of dates attempting to clear schedules for a tour which most times doesn't happen due to un-aligning schedules.

Best software for writing music

Guitar Pro 7

By Jerry King from Phoenix on June 3, 2018 Music Background: 2nd year student

I upgraded from Guitar Pro 6 and moved over to my desktop Dell computer from a Windows laptop. The interface is totally redesigned (for the better) and performance has increased significantly. I really like the loop feature and the chord library is amazing. I'm still learning to use GP 7 but already I can say I like it. The only thing I've found so far is I can't print directly from GP like I could in GP 6. I now have to first create a PDF. A nit, to be sure. Jerry

Great Software, excellent service

By Jason Ormes on October 20, 2017

This software is great. It really helps me get my ideas down on paper. As always the service from Sweetwater has been excellent.

Excellent Application

By Richard K. on May 21, 2019 Music Background: Hobbyist musician, songwriter,

Nice upgrade to version 6 (which was still a great product). Version 7 (7.5) Interface is improved vs. 6, and has more features. Don't have much time on it yet (but soon). All-in-all, easy to use, intuitive, and I have several projects for it lined up. It is an essential element of my music tools.

Well worth the price

By Sweetwater Customer from California on February 1, 2018 Music Background: Extensive

I bought GP7 to transcribe my own guitar arrangements for sharing with others. I had never used any earlier version. This is an excellent program, but confusing at first since there is no users' guide for beginners to follow and there aren't a lot of YouTube videos or other help online. There is for GP6, but it's different. That said, I have only had it a few days and have transcribed three pieces. The more I work on it, the more I discover what a thorough program it is, and I'm beginning to love it. I'm getting faster and faster at the keyboard shortcuts, which helps speed things along, of course. If it had a guide, I would give it 5 stars. But it really covers everything and is WELL worth the price.

Killer software

By Some Dude from America USA on January 31, 2018 Music Background: Beginner composition

Good stuff.
Great platform and software.
I purchased this based on customer reviews and youtube videos highlighting unique product features. Hope to learn navigation/features for tablature and original composition.

Great Piece of software!

By Griff on September 20, 2017

Guitar Pro 7 is well worth the price, especially when paired with the my songbook option. It is far easier to learn a piece of music when you can see it being played as the cursor moves through the score and hear it as it should be played in tempo. Of course, Guitar Pro 7 can also Loop and slow down a section of music without changing pitch. I have integrated Guitar Pro 7 with a Wacom tablet and Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software and now I can compose or transcribe a score in a very short time. There are a few nitpicky things that could be done better in future software versions. It would be nice if the tempo was output in MIDI so that it could be paired up with digital metronomes that use Bluetooth like the Soundbrenner Pulse. The virtual guitar instrument fretboard could be much bigger. It would be nice if you could use a Wacom tablet to write a number in tab or a note in standard notation and have the software recognize what you wrote.

Out of the box or download) Guitar Pro 7.5 is a versatile and intuitive scoring tool for guitar players and other fretted instrument players, supporting Tablature for 3,4,5, and up to 10 stringed instruments. Guitar Pro will also optionally create a traditional music staff for each line of TAB. I was up and running after the first day, writing complex arrangements for my students and other musicians. I would give this product a 5 except for the fact that one cannot control the duration of notes independently.

Great Value

By Bhakta David Nollmeyer on March 27, 2020

I was first using the thirty day trial when I found out about the special financing and bought Guitar Pro.

I have Notion 6, my main program and Allegro which is out of date.

There are an abundance of free great guitar files online.

I found the interface slightly cramped. This is a no brainer...

Perfect for writing down my ideaa

By Sweetwater Customer on March 2, 2018

Love the software. It is perfect for writing down ideas

complcated for novice players

By joseph richardson from MD on February 24, 2021 Music Background: novice at best

if your not at a point you cant write your own stuff...you dont need this.i thought it would be a good tool to learn how to play, but its for musicians with far better skills than my own. maybe in a few months or so i will have a use for it. instructions would be a plus also

Sometimes, change ISN'T good.

By Michael on October 22, 2021 Music Background: 40+ years a musician

In the interests of "advancement" far too much has changed with this software.

Why can't I open a file in an older version of Guitar Pro, if I so choose?

Why can't I use the "simple loop" feature, like I used to be able to do?

On top of some minor inconveniences (which make the whole creation process slow to a crawl), why am I constantly getting emails from Arobas exhorting (bordering on extorting) me to purchase the software, when I already have?

Quite possibly the worst purchase I've made from Sweetwater in four years or so.

Disapointing with "My Song Book" and tutorial options

By Sweetwater Customer on March 19, 2022

Tutorial videos have a unbearable backing music. Exciting music for sales but not practical for instuction. There seems to be a lack of actual useful tutorials to be found. MY SONG BOOK issues - The tab and notes do not match what is actually played on the first track I checked in the "My Song book" selection IF I COULD - Pat Metheny. Second song I tried in "My Song Book" the chords do not display on THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA.

Jazz players may be disappointed from a lack of tune selections as well as chord display options only on a select few songs in MY SONG BOOK titles.

Don't waist your money.

By Gaettagor Pierre from Douglasville, GA on February 23, 2022 Music Background: Guitarist

I normally don't write reviews but I figure maybe this will save somebody some money. This program does nothing but freeze as soon as I open it.
I contacted the company and they seemed to be trying to help at first but after a few emails back and forth they stopped responding. Save your money and use power tab.

Junk

By Ed G from Arizona on August 10, 2021

Overly complicated, no live support for questions, can't download tab of the day. Definitely not worth the price or effort.

Crashes

By Sweetwater Customer on June 13, 2021

The only thing this program does is crash. Fresh off the download and installed, crashes. Change audio settings, crash. Change midi input, crash. Insert note, crash.
