TC Electronic Grand Magus Distortion Pedal Reviews

Distortion Pedal with True Bypass Switching and 9V Battery/9VDC Power Supply Operation

No pedal embodies rock aggression and revelry like the TC Electronic Grand Magus. The Grand Magus distortion pedal was created to bridge the gaps between traditional overdrive, distortion, and fuzz stomps. Run its gain past noon into a slightly dirty amp, and you've got the punch, power, and raw ferocity to elevate common chord progressions to rock 'n' roll nirvana (or Foo Fighters, if that's more your thing). Roll back the gain, and you've got a nice TS-style front end to gussy up blues leads and toughen up metal rhythms. The Tone control runs from throaty and articulate to blisteringly crisp — almost like a treble booster. Plus, when it comes to build quality, the TC Electronic Grand Magus is built for battle. Its metal housing and true bypass switching help maximize your tone on both sides of its brawny sustain. Battery evangelist? The Grand Magus can be powered from a standard 9-volt internal battery as well as your favorite standard 9-volt DC pedal power supply. Whether you play rock, doom, or psychedelia, the TC Grand Magus pedal from Sweetwater packs the authority and versatility to earn a permanent spot on your board.

Awesome

I love this pedal, just bought one and the range it has is amazing. I can get so many different tones out of this. I would definitely recommend this pedal.

Beautiful distortion, inexpensive pedal, one little gotcha

By Sweetwater Customer on July 6, 2021

I really like the sound of this pedal. For the price, I'm not sure how you could beat it. It's a bit noisy when engaged, but that's a lot of gain. The pedal is a bit on the large side, but it's not unmanageable. Having the jacks on the top is helpful for placing it on a pedalboard.

Here's the strange gotcha - the effect engages when you RELEASE the footswitch. That's weird. For other pedals, I'm accustomed to smashing the switch at the exact moment I want to hear the effect. This pedal has caught me a couple times, coming in a split second after I really want it. It'll take a little time to get used to it. So, that's the only reason it gets a 4 star rating instead of 5.
