Gig maker guitar

By John Fox from Portage Pa on December 22, 2023 Music Background: Had my own bands for 45 years. Mainly Classic Country.

I bought 2 of these previously for 2 of my grandchildren. Everytime I'm at their house I love playing it. I love how it sounds. I needed a backup guitar for my band so I decided to get one for myself. I added a pickup for it and you guessed it...it's now my primary gig guitar. The sound the feel and the price makes it a winner in my book.

We received a very nice guitar on time. My sister likes it. And the customer service is pretty good.

Software was less than what I expected, but everything else was perfect. Very pleased overall.

Nice Entry Level Package

By CBK from DC on September 10, 2010 Music Background: Hobbyist

My kids gave me this last year so I could jam with them. While I would have opted for at least the solid-topped FG700S, I've been impressed with the F325 that comes in this package. Although the laminated top, cheesy gig bag and price say bargain basement, Yamaha has made a great entry level instrument that comes packaged with the stuff beginners will need (tuner, picks, strap, spare strings, DVD). Quality-wise, Yamaha has hit the important points... playability is quite good out of the box. The action is good, the neck is smooth and well shaped, the frets are smooth and evenly set in the fingerboard. The gloss finish is beautiful and tough. While the volume and tone of the laminated top won't improve with age like a solid top would, the F325 has OK projection, a nice tone that belies its price and responds well to different strings (it comes with light 80/20 bronze, but I prefer the warmer tone of bronze phosphors). Instead of dwelling on the fact that it lacks a solid top, I've embraced the fact that the laminated top is sturdier and more resistant to humidity changes (so I didn't worry when I played it on the beach). At this price point, it's never going to be an heirloom. On the downside, the tuners and bridge pegs are cheap, the top came with a small (1"x 1/4") ripple on the lower shoulder, and the X-bracing had some excess glue... all common at this price point. Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised by the playability and sound of the F325 guitar and happy with the package - the package is great for beginners and the F325 guitar is a good beginner or (knock-around) second guitar.

Great start but mine missed the mark

By Mathew from Gulfport MS on December 12, 2020 Music Background: Complete beginner.

Purchased this guitar as my first foray into anything musical. I wanted a no non-sense start. Basically the rough and ready to mess up practice guitar.

I received just that. Anyone in my life with guitar experience has all said this is a fine start. Plays well and the tone is good enough to learn with.

I have spent nearly 30 hours play time on it now. Practicing away learning the basics. Callused fingers and all. I haven't changed the strings yet but it's nice to have a spare set. The tuner was great. I was able to tune my guitar with no effort before I really understood what that even was.

Now my to issue.

It came with no second peg to attach the strap. So now the strap is useless. The strap itself is way to small it's like for a child. I can't use the guitar in a standing position so I can only learn to play while seated. The bag seems more likely to scuff and brush on the outside of the guitar and do more harm then good if the guitar isn't traveled with. The dvd will never get played it's sorta just trash. Should be a QR code to a youtube vid. I would have actually watched it. I don't regret the purchase but I can't help but feel I missed out on a lot of the value with no ability to use the strap. I said prior I know nothing about guitars except the low hours of practice. I wont be able to add a strap peg myself comfortably.

Hope this review helps when making your decision to purchase.

Get the guitar without the package

By Nathaniel Barwell from Pelham, NH on October 5, 2018

The guitar is good.

The tuner is fine (Yamaha GCT1). I love the way they put the battery in the clip.

The strap is probably fine, although barely long enough, and unimpressive.

The guitar bag is garbage, just a thin nylon bag, with *no* padding.

The picks are thin, probably fine for an acoustic, but worth about nothing, picks are cheap.

I appreciate the set of strings.

If I did it again, I'd buy the guitar by itself (F325D), and put the difference toward a more highly rated tuner, nicer strap, and padded bag.

But if you don't know anything about this stuff, don't want to do the research, and don't need a well padded bag, this is probably a fine way to start.
