I especially like this guitar

By Kevin Buck from Duluth MN on January 16, 2022 Music Background: Solo Acoustic Artist

It plays great and sounds super when plugged in. Greg Baum was amazing to work with.

I LOVE THIS GUITAR !

By Bruce Graml from Akron, NY on September 30, 2021 Music Background: 50 year - Lifelong Pro Player (65 years old now)

I have worked hard, been lucky and have been blessed to be able to own tons of guitars (well over a hundred through the years). I've played professionally since I was 14 years old - I'm 65 now. Not bragging - just laying the groundwork that I know a good guitar when I play one. This guitar has a wonderful sound to it. Not as boomy and low-end as most of my other acoustics - which I really like ! It plays like butter. Fit and finish are of a standard more akin to a much higher priced instrument. Sounds great unplugged and plugged in. It is a beautiful guitar - pictures don't do it justice. Tuners are great - although, I gave it a quick tune when it arrived and I haven't touched them since (and that includes some mild note-stretching lead work). Hats off to whoever did the setup on this at Sweetwater (I always add the setup when I order a new guitar using my favorite strings). He/She tweaked it to my specs perfectly. Thanks, as always, to my rep Charlie Davis. Always a good experience. Everyone has their own idea of what "their" guitar is - but, I would be very surprised if you ordered one of these and didn't love it.

Amazing guitar at amazing price point.

By Chris B. from Massachusetts on July 26, 2021 Music Background: Played guitar off and on my entire life, started getting serious into daily playing again about 2 years ago.

I looked at different parlor guitars for weeks and finally chose this one. I am so happy I did. I have yet to use the electronics but the quality of this guitar build is phenomenal, the tonewoods look amazing and the real maple binding and 3pc back make this look like a much higher end guitar. As does the split saddle. The sound unplugged is much better than I was expecting. I had read reviews where action came high and fret ends were sharp and poking over the fretboard. Not the case with this one. Out of the box action was perfect and fret ends were smooth. I'm still going to take it to get a professional set up but I'm thinking it's not gunna need much. Maybe a slight shaving of the saddle to lower action just a hair more (I love extremely low action, for most people it was perfect right out the box). I've ordered from Sweetwater maybe a hundred times and this is the first review I've left. Only thing that NEEDS to be done imo, is to condition the fretboard and bridge, they look awfully dry. Otherwise, this guitar is incredible right out of the box. Jeff Weinstein is an incredible sales rep and I really lucked out getting him as my rep. Guitar quality and customer service both 5 stars.

We have a winner

By Gary M...NY on October 12, 2019

If you like acoustics and were raised in the US, you`re probably familiar with the heavy weights out there, Martin, Taylor, Gibson, Guild but for years I had a tendency to look down on Takemine, thinking they were sub par. Well obviously my opinion was born out of ignorance so until you get your hands on one of these you dont realize Takemine makes giant killers. When you see artists like Springsteen and any number of hotshot country stars on stage playing Taks you tend to think, what am I missing here? This thing is a gem, with a bright, crisp punchy well balanced tone and beautiful action and the pictures dont lie, this guitar is drop dead gorgeous. Sure I would like to see an Ebony bridge and fretboard and maybe some better geared tuners but what you get here for your money is stunning. Initially I thought, oh no it`s made in China but Takemine must supervise production pretty well cause this thing is flawless, between that and Sweetwaters 55 point inspection, how could you possibly go wrong?

Great Guitar

Five Dig-Its

By Bartlioni from Huntsville, AL on December 26, 2018 Music Background: Semi-Professional Crooner and songwriter

I'm a song writer and player with forty-five years of experience. I have a collection of top-shelf Collings OMs, A Martin D-42, a Martin OO Deep body, and a Taylor 916c, I don't say this to brag, but I want you to understand that I know great guitars. I decided I wanted a parlor guitar for informal gatherings and maybe even small gigs, and the Takamine fit the bill with excellent build quality, aesthetics, and most importantly: Sound. After only a few hours of playing the top has woken up nicely and for the price I'm blown away. Very rich even sound across the spectrum including the bass. My torrified top OM-2C Collings might not be scared of it, but then I don't have to worry much about some drunk dumping a beer into the tone hole while I'm on break either. All in all this is a five-star performing guitar and plays as good as it looks. Mine was set up perfectly out of the box.

45 Day Update

By SteveO from California on January 21, 2017 Music Background: Singer/songwriter

This is a follow-up to my previous review after a month and a half of owning this guitar. I've had the chance to play it live and plugged in at an open mic event and the electronics were outstanding. I have nothing but praise for this guitar. Here's a phenomenon I can't explain but will pass on: We've been having some wild weather here lately, with frequent changes in temperature and humidity. This little guitar seems to stay in tune under these conditions better than any other I've ever owned. Strange but true.

Beautiful in every way

By SteveO from California on December 26, 2016 Music Background: Singer/songwriter, in a band, part-time professional

I usually wait awhile before reviewing a purchase, but after only two days of owning this guitar, I am so impressed that I feel compelled to offer my opinion. I have owned seven Takamine guitars since 1975, all of them great. I still have five, including a 12-string and an electric-acoustic bass. This little guitar is truly beautiful. The fit and finish is flawless. It's small and light and very comfortable to play. What surprised me was how LOUD it is for such a small-bodied instrument. My performing guitar has a cedar top, and sounds wonderful, but it was a nice change of pace to go back to the sound of the spruce. I haven't plugged it in yet, but I've had the same system on some of my other guitars so I'm sure it will be fine. Takamine is known for their electronics, the best in the business, which is why Taks are some of the most recorded guitars in Nashville studios. For quality and value, you can't go wrong with this guitar.

Tak New Yorker is Awsome

By Kevin Herrington from Greenville SC on April 2, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician

Stunning guitar! This guitar is well make and a beauty to look at. Better than that is it’s sound. Great intonation and sustain. Wonderful neck action and extremely comfortable in your lap. The woods are very nice, solid all the way through and what can I say about the back.. better in real life than on the picture. The pre amp is good not great but does give you a solid acoustic sound and the tuner works well. It was between this parlor and an Alvarez and I am happy I chose this guitar. (Nothing against Alvarez..Great guitars also). The price couldn’t be better for what you get and Sweetwater’s service so far is impressive. Still waiting on the case and hoping it is as nice as the guitar. I WOULD RECOMMEND this beautiful instrument. Scheduled for some studio time soon and will defiantly be taking this guitar. Sweetwater needs a loyalty program, earn points buy more stuff, great concept.

Little Gem

By Barrie Dempsey from McMinnville, OR on June 16, 2023 Music Background: Working musician and award winning singer/songwriter

I purchased this used on Gear Exchange. This guitar is very well made which is not surprising because Takamini is one of those product that has always been underrated. The electronics are superb. It's no wonder a lot of performers use them. I used this little guy on its first gig at the Marriott and it was a pleasure to play.
Also included a hard shell case which is unusual at this price point. Action is great. I won't have to adjust a thing. Looking forward to two more gigs this weekend with it.
