Great Bag!

By Sweetwater Customer

I really like this bag, has the cushioned parts in the right areas for extra protection than a normal bag. Very lush on the inside. The pockets fit everything I need them told hold even my notebook and Ipad. I was looking for a more durable bag without having to get a hardcase.

Good solid bag, lightweight, looks good, plenty of space

By Michael from Maryland
Music Background: Hobbyist, some gigging

Very happy with this bag. It holds all my guitars (PRS Hollowbody, Tele, Les Paul) with no issues. It's super light and easy to cary, but also feels very secure for the guitar, with good headstock/heck padding. I dunno if I'd fly with it, but for tossing in the car, or carrying on my back, to various places, it works perfectly. The backpack straps are padded nicely and it's very comfortable. Everything on it feels very well-made, and after a few months of owning it, it's not showing any real signs of wear.

I'm only knocking a star off because of how the outer pouch secures to the case. It's kind of a hook that slides into one of the loops on the front, and the hook is not adjustable and tends to come loose if you don't have enough in the pouch to make it tight. It looks cool, but honestly I wish they had just stuck with velcro, zipper, or maybe a buckle of some sort. It just feels like a kind of silly design.

Solid, attractive and protective

By Harry G. from New York
Music Background: Professional, teacher

I am a firm believer in gig bags. Sure, when you are flying they are not a good choice, but sometimes a hardshell case is too bulky for on the city bus or in a car with other folks. I have owned many gig nags over the years. Some were the 'freebies' that come with certain brand guitars--the Fender ones range from terrible (the one that came with my CIJ Jazzmaster) or very nice (as came with my 1970's Start reissue.) The ones I have bought separately have run the gamut from looking-good-but-not-lasting to decent product. This Gator Transit is very nicely padded, seems to offer good resistance to flex and has many nice little storage features. I have been using it for about a month now and it hasn't given any cause for concern. I am fond of the light grey though I wonder how long it will stay clean looking. The internal padding is secure yet soft. There are tear-resistant panels where the case meets up with tuning machines and bridge. This is a nice touch --because even my favorite gig bags have become a bit frayed in these areas. All in all, I'd say this is a good case and I am thoroughly enjoying it so far!

Pervct Fit for a Toronado

By Sweetwater Customer

I needed a soft case that was strong enough for my lack of care, and would fit the unique shape and size of a Fender Toronado. This fits the bill.

I Really Like This Bag

By Sweetwater Customer

My new Gator bag replaces the Mono bag my Harmony guitar shipped in. The old Mono bag is very well padded, but its top loading design makes it difficult to insert or remove a guitar without dragging the finish across the zipper. Really a bad design IMO! Anyway, this Gator bag opens all the way like a hard case does. Very well made with lots of storage. There are removeable padding pieces in the headstock and tailstock areas, allowing a custom fit. It also has padding to support the guitar's neck. It's not inexpensive, but it is a good quality bag and worth the money! I'm glad I bought it!

Well made bag

By MATTHEW Z. from Latrobe, PA

A great all around bag. Have to mention, Sweetwater packs bags for shipment better than some companies pack a guitar. Seriously, great job Sweetwater!
The gig bag is very customizable due to removable pad.
Lots of pockets. Definitely better protection than some gig bags "included" with guitars.

Has a high-end feel to it and looks great

By Michael B. from SANFORD, FL

I had been using an economy bag and it was OK, but It was an acoustic guitar bag, so my guitar was not snug and secure. Then this bag was recommended to me by a Sweetwater rep and when it arrived it was better than I thought it would be.

My Squire Stratocaster fits perfectly, and it is well padded with many useful pockets. For me, this is a high-end bag that will last forever. I mainly use it just to keep it protected from dust and my dog's hair. But now I feel more comfortable taking it with me on outings.

I could have kept the cheaper bag as a dust cover but this a better option for me.

Be aware that this will not fit most 335 style guitars!

By Sweetwater Customer

The gig bag is very high quality, with many useful compartments for storing capos, tuners, etc, the lining is thick and will definitely protect your guitar, HOWEVER, it is far too snug to fit a hollow body guitar, it is probably easy to tell from the picture, but for impulse buyers like me, look at gators other options if you are trying to buy a bag for your 335/hollow body

Gator transit electric guitar gig bag-light grey

By Jim B. from St Charles, Mo

All guitar gig bags are not created equally. The Gator transit gig bag is shoulders above most gig bags on the market. You can buy cheaper bags and that is exactly what you are getting. ..cheaper & less quality bags. For the money, the Gator gig bag is a wise purchase. The padding is superior to most bags & it has numerous pockets to store your music, extra strings , Tuner, strap, toothpaste & toothbrush. I purchased the transit to protect my diy strat in which I have invested $1,000! That's how much I trust the Gator Transit. Fits perfectly in its new red & well padded nest. If you are looking for a quality gig bag To protect your prize axe, check out the Gator transit. It's worth the price & you will make your guitar very happy & happy guitars seem to sound better when you play them.

Light and sturdy but expensive

By Billy C. from Norfolk, VA
Music Background: Guitarist for 20 years

More than I wanted to pay, no complaints about what I got. It fits my tele perfectly. The soft handle on the side is comfortable and rigid. Nothing chincy about this bag.
I had Gators gig bag the level lower than this one for a different guitar, but the pocket couldn't hold much more than a tablet or cord and one of the zipper pulls kept coming off. Definitely get this Transit series - I shouldn't need a case or different gig bag again for this guitar.

Flap closure not secure!

By billy M. from WA

The clip that holds the outside flap shut does not work very well and comes undone all the time.
The flap itself is really not a great idea anyway. Would have been a great bag with a way to keep this flap shut.
Do better!

Outstanding gig bag

By Djim

The initial appeal of this case was the classic aesthetic, but upon receiving it and setting my mustang guitar in it, it was clear to me that this case was solidly built to protect your instrument, while also being lightweight and having a few additional perks to make a hard shell case a moot purchase. The support for the headstock, neck and body are superb. The guitar fits snugly inside. The handle on the side is firm, unlike most gig bags, and it balances well. The pocket on the upper part is big enough to fit a set of strings or a capo or picks, while the larger lower pocket is great for fitting music books, notepads, folding guitar stand, cables, etc. and the closure is simple and hassle free. Now if I can just convince Gator to make one of these for short scale mustang basses, I would be thrilled. If you’’re a touring guitarist, traveling via planes, I might still recommend getting a flight case, I’ve toured with a gig bag for a bass before and been lucky enough to not have a late boarding passenger try to shove their bulky bag into a bin and crush my bass. I’ve also had really sweet flight attendants allow me to store it in a bin by their station or behind my seat in the very last row, but it’s risky. But if you’’re touring in a van or car or via bus, etc. this is one of the best purchases you could make to protect your instrument.

Gator gig bag

By Rey R.
Music Background: Philadelphia

As far as protection is concerned this is probably the best gig bag available. It is pretty thick and there is even a reinforced pad that wraps around the headstock. That"s important because this seems to be the most vulnerable area of the guitar when it is stored in the case. I"ve had mine for over a year and the main handle is starting to tear away from the case. I"m very disappointed...

Not great for Gibson

By KD from CA

This is a nice looking, sturdy gig bag and a great value at $99. I bought is for a Gibson SG. The 3x3 headstock doesn"t fit unless you take out the padded insert which leaves the headstock less protected. So instead , I used this bag for a Fender tele and it works great with the insert. I also have the Gator Pro gig bag which has a wider area at the headstock and much better padding all the way around. The Pro is more money but worth it.

Gator Transit Gig Bag

By GL from Denver
Music Background: Novice guitar

I needed a gig bag that would fit in my car for traveling and choose the Gator because of the storage pockets but when I got it I was surprised with the high quality of the bag and really nice padding and soft surface interior that will keep my guitars finish pristine. I have pockets for cables, pics, capo, and strap. I use the side handle or back back option with the includes shoulder straps. It has d-rings so you can secure it while traveling or clip on and extra pack with more gear. The front pocket has a unique fastener that clips in different loops depending on how much gear is inside the pouch. I think they thought of everything, at least everything I needed in a gig bag. Thumbs up Gator

After a long search

By Mark H. from Las Vegas, NV
Music Background: Professional

I actually bought this for my 42" short scale bass. The interior length is "officially" 14.5", but it"s a soft bag which gives you a little wiggle room. It would be a nice inexpensive guitar bag as well and more protective since I removed the Velcro head and heel pads to fit my bass. I"ve had gig bags in all price ranges from many manufacturers and I have to say I am really impressed with how solid this bag seems to be. I travel constantly and this bag will see its share of overhead airline compartments. I"m feeling confident it will hold up.

A very good gig bag

By Joshua B. from La Verne, CA

Really love this gig bag. The protection is beyond adequate and the slim design is a definite plus. This can be converted from a backpack to a bag very easily and the metal hook that keeps the front flap from going everywhere is very good design.

The only reason I don't give this a full 5 stars is because there is no inner strap that wraps around the neck to secure it further. There is a nice foam pad that the neck fits in, but I would have preferred a velcro strap as well.

Perfect Fit / Perfect for Travel

By Bill M. from Poolesville, MD
Music Background: >40 years Acoustic/Electric

First off, let me give a shout-out to Jimmy Hart who truly gave me great advice on my gig bag quest. Yes, this is not a huge investment, the results of that advice speak for themselves.

I got this gig bag for an Epiphone ES-339. That's worth another review about an incredibly versatile and road-worthy guitar. I play blues and jazz (non-professionally) and this guitar does both. I also do a lot of air travel, with it, and had a TKL gig bag that fit very tight, and without a lot of side protection. The Gator Transit offered exactly what I wanted - protection w/o a big bag. A delightful discovery is that the endpin pad as well as neck support can be unzipped and the stuffing modified (or replaced) such that the guitar fits better. In the case of the 339 I replaced the endpin pad with a slightly thinner neoprene and took off one layer (about 1/8 in) from the neck support for a beautiful fit. Of course, all the other features are simply great - pockets, straps, handles - all what you need.

If there's one thing I'd prefer, it would be that the front flap held on better, but that's truly cosmetic.

Finally, the ultimate test - the airlines. As you know, airlines are supposed to be guitar friendly, but I twice got pushback getting onto a small regional jet (CRJ900 for you buffs). I ignored their suggestion of a gate check for good reason - the Transit fits (just) in the small overhead on these planes! So if your guitar fits a Transit, it too will fly. And your boarding pass fits nicely in the Transit's pockets!
