Great customer service

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on April 13, 2023

Ordered a bass guitar for a family member and the customer service and follow up was awesome. They love their guitar and plan to take lessons now. Will definitely use Sweetwater for future musical needs.

Amazing

By Ray on January 13, 2023

I recently bought my ibanez from Adorama online for $180, a $20 savings. I don't usually buy gear outside of Sweetwater, but the savings was too good to pass up. The short scale is just right switching back and forth from regular 6 string guitar. These stock strings look like they can last a while. No fret edges very smooth neck. I got that deep blue color which Sweetwater does not stock. I am very pleased! My 4 guitar budget gear (see pics): This Ibanez bass, ibanez Gio, Kramer Focus, and Epiphone DR100, Peavey Vypyr X1. These sound really good with.out breaking the bank.

Great little bass

By Kevin Scullin on March 25, 2022

I purchased this bass, and the first one I got seemed to be mis-wired with a master volume control for the P-pickups and a slave volume control for the J-pickup instead of independent volume controls. I got ahold of Ryan Sloan, who put me in touch with Guitar Tech Michael Barden. Michael got back to me within two days, confirmed that mine was wired incorrectly, and sent me a replacement that same day via next-day air, as well as e-mailing me a return label. The replacement worked perfectly, although the volume control nuts did need a little tightening. I attribute that primarily to shipping vibration - I've seen the same issue in some guitar review videos. Below is a video of the unboxing, as well as commentary about the excellent customer service and sound samples of the replacement.

Small but Mighty

By Jason from Connecticut on February 15, 2022 Music Background: Bass Player

I ordered this Bass Guitar cause of my current living space. I wasn't sure what to expect but it sounds awesome. I never played a micro bass before but it's not a bad guitar. I would definitely recommend it to ppl starting out or for kid's.

Hell of a deal for the money

By Kerry Atchinson from Kansas on March 6, 2021 Music Background: Looong time drummer, beginner bass player ( 5 months )

I first bought an Ibanez SR300e from Sweetwater, which I like very much, but while I've got a 74" wingspan and medium-large hands, it sometimes proves hard to play below the 4th fret or so due to arthritis in my left hand. The Mikro has proved to be just the answer for those uncomfortable days, as the more tightly spaced frets make a huge difference. The fit is less exact than the SR300e, but it's solid and the finish is excellent. The neck, fretboard, and frets seem to be excellent given my brief experience. The B10 bridge is of course less substantial than the Accucast, but has been no problem at all. The tuning machines don't hold tune as well as the SR300e, and are probable candidates for an upgrade, but are not really an issue for my purposes. Someone who plays a several hour gig may find them a bother. Stock pickups and strings are fine to my ear, but will probably be upgraded just because the very reasonable price makes this an instrument that can be customized just for fun.

Bottom line: Excellent for the money, great for a beginner on a serious budget or an old guy with gimpy wrists, I think 5 stars for those reasons.

Who Knew??

By T.A. from West Hartford, CT on October 31, 2020

I picked up this bass after being tired of the heavy weight and size of a full scale size. This thing is SO FUN to play and sounds great. I changed out the strings to flatwounds (nothing wrong with the roundwounds-just personal preference) and I truly can't believe the sound and punch it has. If you're on the fence about getting this model, don't be. Sweetwater sent it quickly, and packed securely. It's a "win" all the way around.

Better Than Expected

By Bill from North California on March 17, 2019

I had not owned or played a bass in decades (being mainly a guitar player), so I did not want to spend a lot of money just to see if there was still any interest in playing bass. At this price point, my expectations were not high. However, I was pleasantly surprised by both the good quality and playability of this Ibanez bass. Being short in stature, the short scale is perfect for me. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase. Thanks to A.J. Becerra of Sweetwater for his advice and assistance.

Great value!

By Ethan T. on March 14, 2022

Wonderful value for such an inexpensive bass! The neck feels nice, and the tone is great! Tuners are surprisingly not too bad. Easy to play with the smaller frets. Tone pots could be a bit more precise, as tone changes only really change at the 75% mark. Overall a great bass for the money.

Update

By Joseph King Jr from FORT LAUDERDALE, FL on March 10, 2022 Music Background: Experienced

I wanted to clarify something I wrote in my last review. I said that I had to stretch my fingers to play it. Keep in mind that I spend a lot of time in the First Position (Frets 1-5), and I do have to stretch a little bit there, but by no means is it any sort of a problem.

I highly recommend this bass. I have a Squier Affinity bass, and the quality of this Ibanez is actually equal to or even slightly better, and the Affinity is a good bass.

Like I said in my first review, the tone knob doesn't seem to be that great, (which is why I took off 1/2 star) but I keep my tone knobs all the way up anyway so that doesn't matter at all to me.

I'm happy with this bass, I'm glad I bought it, I would recommend it to a friend, and if anything ever happened to it I would surely buy another one.

Solid Bass

By Joseph K. from FORT LAUDERDALE, FL on February 27, 2022 Music Background: Played in rock bands in the 90's. Coming back to bass as a hobby now.

This is a quality instrument. I took 1/2 star off because I don't hear hardly any difference in the tone knob setting unless I have it plugged into certain effects boxes. Personally, I'm ok with that because it sounds good as is. Other than that, it's a high-quality instrument. No problems with fret sprout or anything like, that and it has a high-quality finish.

I bought this because I didn't feel like stretching my fingers on a full-scale fretboard, and I'm glad I did because even though I'm six-feet tall with average hands I still have to stretch a little to play a scale.

Ibanez Mikro Bass

By Jim Simmons from Michigan on July 10, 2021 Music Background: Played guitar and (a little) bass in bands for many years. Pretty much retired at this point.

The bass arrived today. Needed set up work which I expected. The neck needed a little relief. Truss rod worked just fine.
The G string would not intonate properly no matter how I adjusted the saddle and action (no problem with the others). After racking my brain for a while on how to fix it, I put a new G string on and the problem was solved. I bought this for my 12 year old grandson who is just starting out on bass. The short scale and playability of the Mikro will make his life easier. The bass sounds better than I expected. Very easy to play.

Nice sound

By Sweetwater Customer from Nj on December 12, 2018

Have this bass in red sounds really good. Not much different than the bass I have that's expensive.

Looks good I use heavy strings and its solid. Recommended ibanez is a good brand for even pros.

Excellent Value

By Sweetwater Customer on May 14, 2021

I am a keyboard player normally and I want to start producing my own music. I have an Alesis SR-18 that I use on stage, but it takes a lot of time to set up a new song and get it just right on that device. Thus, this bass. I did a lot of research and this model kept coming up as a good beginner's instrument and the price was right so I pulled the trigger. This little bass is great!

Don't get me wrong. It has its limitations. The volume pots go from zero to 100 in the last quarter turn of travel on the knobs. You have to blend the pickups manually since there is no pickup switching. I could see these things being problematic on stage. You will also want to put a better set of strings on it. Other than that, it plays very well. The intonation is good and it keeps its tune well. The action is nice and it is a breeze to play. I'm sure a more experienced bassist might find more flaws, but it is just right for me. It is also small and light, so it would fit children and people with small hands very well.

I am very happy with this purchase and recommend this instrument to anyone wanting to try their hand at playing bass. You get a lot of instrument for a little bit of money and it is made well enough that you could use it professionally.

Shorty Bass with Surprising Tones

By Robert B from Boynton Beach FL on January 31, 2020 Music Background: Professional Jazz Guitarist

I'm a jazz guitarist and needed to double on bass for an upcoming gig. Did some research and found the Ibanez Mikro Short Scale. It arrived well set up, just a little tweaking need. Pairing it with an Ampeg analog preamp, 100W cabinet, and flatwound strings yields surprising tones, from slap to deep pleasing rumble. It's an entry level bass with gig-worthy sounds.

Love this Little Ibanez miKro

By Matthew Brenner from Davis, CA on February 5, 2019 Music Background: Piano (44 years) Bass (on and off 28 years)

I bought a used Ibanez miKro for my 10 year old son who is just learning the instrument. My 34" was just way too big for him so this seemed like a great option. After some minor adjustments to the truss and the bridge action I got a really terrific little bass!

PROS: The action is really nice after some adjustments. Frets are compact and much easier on a small hand. Sound is quite good. The pickups produce a pretty good sound with individual adjustments for the P neck and J bridge. Has a great finish and looks like a pro bass. Nicely balanced and sits nicely both in the lap and on a strap.

CONS: You can visibly see the two piece neck but for $... (doesn't impact playability). Tuning machines are on the cheaper side and micro adjustments are tedious as not 20:1.

OVERALL: Usually you get what you pay for but in this case, i think you get a lot of bang for your buck. If my kid got really good, I'd consider replacing the tuning machines and the pickups but overall this is a great bass for anyone looking for a more compact option.
