Taylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic Guitar - Natural with Black Pickguard Reviews
Looking for Taylor quality in a small-sized guitar? The Taylor GS Mini Mahogany acoustic guitar gives you all that and more! The big little guitar
Just got my Mini. Did a bunch of research before the buy and it is just like what l reviewed everywhere. This guitar has a deep low end for a small guitar. It isn't like a large dreadnought so don t think that. But it is full and warm sounding. I think part of the reason is the back is arched and doesn't t have any braces. The arch makes the body deeper and so helps produce that great low end. Very balanced between low and high end. The only issue l have is the high strings buzz so l ve got Boveda working to balance the humidity and l ll tweak the truss rod to raise the action a bit. I am extremely happy with this guitar.
After six months
I normally don't write a review. Taylor speaks for itself, but Sweetwater I will never buy another musical instrument from nobody except Sweetwater. They have the best and I'm saying this honestly the best customer service..
Best small guitar
This guitar has such a deep full sound. Very happy with this purchase and Sweetwater customer service is the best.
Taylor GS Mini mahogany
This is an instrument! I have had another mini, a walnut and spruce that I liked, but this mahogany just sounds so much better! I paid extra to have it set-up by the Sweetwater luthiers and could not be happier! Easier to play by far! I added a ES Go to it after I received the guitar and it's better than ever! Very happy! Thanks to Cameron McMullen!
Taylor GS Mini Mahogany
I'm really surprised at the projection for such a small guitar. For the size the sustain is very good and due to the scale length it's very easy to play. I'm not a fan of the Taylor ES system. Instead of the ES I had a LR Braggs SL installed and I'm extremely pleased with the LR Braggs. Playability of the Mini allows you to play for long periods of time without getting fatigued. This instrument really fit all the requirements, boxes that needed to checked for me. I'm not worried about leaving it out like my higher priced guitars, so I've found I reach for it all the time. It's kept me playing everyday and that's what I wanted. Once I start playing the Mini, I usually put it down and grab my Cole Clark Angle 2 Sunburst and continue through the day.
Taylor GS Mini Acoustic
After a setup, the guitar plays great. It's smaller size makes it more comfortable and convenient.
An amazing choice!
If you're considering buying one, do it! This one packs a punch, is comfortable, fun, and a great guitar to have around the house. I have a few much more expensive acoustics but frequently find myself picking up the GS mini instead. Try it out and you'll fall in love.
Excellent, in every way
First of all I want to say, I normally don't review, but I am on on this, I'm 63 years old been playing guitar. Most of my life wanted to step down from a full-size and I'm very happy. I also want to say I've bought another guitar from Sweetwater And I will continue on buying anything music related from them. They have the best customer service I have ever seen. I won't go into details. Just take my word on it. You can't go wrong. I want to thank everybody at Sweet water, Sincerely, David.
Amazing little guitar
Sweetwater has always been the best, Dan VanAmerongen makes sure of that. I have never been disappointed, and this little guitar is no exception. It sounds amazing, in fact, I can't tell the difference between it and my auditorium. Bravo Sweetwater! And thanks Dan!
Mahogany Excells
Prior to purchasing the GS Mini, tried out each version, tone wood, etc. The Mahogany top is simply the best projection, and bass response of all the models! Volume is perfect, especially if you buy the non electric model. As an added bonus, it's less expensive than the Gorgeous Koa version, but superior sound and tone.Great little guitar that sounds awfully big!
Returned Taylor GS Mini
This product was just what the advertisement said it would be. I was interested in a smaller guitar than my jumbo Yamaha LL 6. I just didn't realize how small this guitar would be. Nothing is wrong with this guitar or the advertisements, it is just too small for me.

Taylor GS Mini Mahogany
My first guitar and Sweetwater did a fantastic job getting me what I needed. They were helpful and within days of contacting them, my new guitar showed up at home. Service after the sale has been great, I'll definitely be coming back for any future purchases. Couldn't be happier.
Shockingly Good
Okay, this is a small guitar that I'm buying for my daughter. She had her first guitar that I didn't spend much money on and it wouldn't be much of a loss if she quit. She played for a year and a half, and that guitar just wouldn't stay in tune anymore. It was a good steppingstone, but it was time to move on. I ended up deciding on the Mahogony GS Mini. It was the least expensive and I thought the oil-finished body might sound better than then more heavily lacquered blonde version. I also couldn't afford the Koa version that I really wanted.
First, it looks fantastic. The body has a wonderful figure to it and the neck wood is gorgeous. She thinks it looks great and she got to see the pictures of the four GS Mini guitars and pick the one she wanted. She definitely picked the right one. Second, the QC/QA is excellent. The frets were perfectly filed with no sprout at all...in winter. The setup was perfect right out of the box. It was even (almost) in tune. She loves it and she's playing it. You can't ask for any more than that.
I'll admit, I think I'll even be picking this up and playing it. This is an excellent guitar just to mess around on. Does it sound like vintage Martin? No, but it isn't supposed to. It sounds exactly how it should sound and it does it very well. I don't think you can go wrong with this one.
Taylor GS Mini
Awesome guitar, amazing sound, great for travel!
punches well above it weight
Its kinda funny. I wanted this guitar as a camp fire guitar and got it on the taylor day deals along with a 314ce. Its incredible just how little you sacrifice in volume and projection with the smaller body. The sound is full, sweet and rich. The tone is very balanced and while you can feel the shorter scale its not so small that you start tripping over yourself.
The quality of the build is exceptional. The reinforced gig back protects the instrument well and the size is perfect for outdoors, travel or going to events where a full size acoustic isnt feasible nor logical. The mahogany top has a very strong fundamental yet retains that presence taylor guitars are so well known for. Many have tried to recreate the taylor sound. But the only ones that can do it is taylor. And while these are made south of the border its obvious the men and women making these instruments care about their craft and the product.
Excellent Little Guitar
This an excellent sounding and playing travel guitar! The action was initially a little high, but I tightened the truss rod 1/4 turn and now it's perfect. I find myself picking up this guitar at home when I need to practice something. I previously used a Martin LX1, but I never liked the sound or playability. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Taylor GS Mini
This is a great guitar ,I didn't like it at first ,but I put the lightest acoustic strings that I could find on it and that fixed everything for me ,now it plays great
novace guitarest.
i've been playing guitar for a year and a half. As someone who is petite with small hands, I've had trouble finding a guitar that felt comfortable. I absolutely love my gs mini! It's really comfortable to play and has a great sound for such a small instrument. I found the gig bag to be durable and of good quality, but will probably invest in a hard shell case at some point as well as a version of the gs mini with a pickup. As always, Sweetwater customer service was exceptional!
Great little guitar
I picked up this guitar last year with some of my stimulus money. In my mid-60s and with a major, progressive physical disability, I found myself in need of something smaller than my beloved Collings OM. This is what I picked and I'm not at all disappointed. This isn't the guitar the Collings is but it's a sweet little thing for its price point. This is my 4th Taylor and I'll stack it against any of the previous 3. It's got that Taylor sound with a little more darkness from the mahogany top and the ES-Go pickup I bought with it gives me everything I need for the open mics I play. The ES-Go also never needs to have a battery replaced, being a passive magnetic pickup. The small size and scale length make it dreamily comfortable to play though barres on the upper frets can be cramped due to the smaller spacing between frets. Another small issue is that the ES-Go can get dislodged from its clip if the guitar gets banged hard. Easy enough to re-clip it but it's kind of a hassle as the strings need to be loosened. But overall, this is a great little guitar, especially if you need something a bit smaller.
Actually pretty nice, way better than I expected.
I purchased this guitar at a steep discount as part of a Taylor promotion (the "buy a real guitar and get a GS-mini for pocket change" promotion) and didn't have great expectations. I figured I would just toss it in the vehicle to take to social events where it might end up getting mauled by drunks or other over enthusiastic party animals. After seeing it in person and playing it, I believe it is actually too nice for that.
The action is just slightly high (in my opinion, but still very playable), which may account for the intonation being a tiny bit sharp in the higher register. Not so much that most people would notice and since this is unlikely to be used for recording by anyone it probably will be a non-issue. Shouldn't be too hard to adjust if it is an issue for anyone.
The rich warm tone of this guitar with the Mahogany top appeals to me and I love the excellent sustain it has. The unstained satin finish shows off the beauty of the Mahogany. The included kit bag is very nice and short of running it over with a vehicle it should keep the guitar nice and safe.
