Hercules Stands GS414B PLUS Single Guitar Stand with Auto Grip System Reviews

Hanging Guitar Stand with Auto-grip System, Instant Height-adjustment Clutch, and Foam Rubber Contact Points

The Hercules Stands GS414B Plus is a versatile guitar stand. Its auto-grip system fits instruments with a neck width up to 2". This Hercules guitar stand's instant height-adjustment clutch allows for easy changes on the fly. Accommodate your ukulele, mandolin, banjo, or violin, thanks to the GS414B Plus's N.I.N.A. accessory. And foam rubber contact points safeguard your instrument from damage. Beyond that, high-friction rubber feet provide excellent stability. Don't lean your guitar against your amp, it'll fall over and break! That's why Sweetwater recommends using a Hercules guitar stand like the GS414B Plus.

Hercules Stands GS414B Plus Single Guitar Stand with Auto Grip System

By Sweetwater Customer

Outstanding for security and quick attach and quick release of your guitar.

By HMG from Earth

I should have bought this years ago. I have had guitars spill from spindly stands. Or it takes too much finesse to quickly place it squarely in place. This thing has a single strong post rising from a secure tripod base. The clever mechanism at the top grabs the neck of the guitar by its own weight when you place it in the stand, locking it in place. To remove the guitar you simply lift it straight up and it releases quickly. Well worth the cost to protect your Les Paul or acoustic guitar. I've sent recommendations for this stand to all my guitar playing friends.

Hercules GS414B PLUS Single Guitar Stand

By Unholy from Male, Henveyru
Music Background: Bassist

Very sturdy and reliable guitar stand. The auto-grip system is a great feature because it securely holds the guitar when placed on the stand. The build quality is excellent and it feels very safe for expensive instruments. Easy to set up and fold.

Not a good design for banjo.

By Sweetwater Customer

This stand doesn't work for banjos, even with the rubber bushings supplied to make the gap smaller. I've tried 6 different banjos on it, and the results are the same. The forks are too wide, and the entire weight of the banjo is supported by the 1st and 4th string tuners. Not only is this bad for the banjo, but the banjo immediately goes out of tune when placed on the stand. The clamp mechanism is a good design, but it's just too wide to safely hold a banjo neck. The rubber bushings supplied would need to be 4 times thicker than they are to contact the peghead before the tuners do. I'm fixing it myself, but it wasn't thought out very well from a banjo standpoint.

Nicest guitar stand I've ever owned

January 13, 2026

Great stand but...

By Frank G.

Works as advertised. Sturdy. Holds my guitars well during gigs. The non-retractable yoke at the top is a bit problematic when loading your car/truck, since it takes up more space than a foldable yoke (which itself is problematic because the yoke doesn't lock when folded).

Honestly, is this the best the industry can do for a rock-solid stand made from modern materials that won't disintegrate over time, is space-efficient, and uses a better locking mechanism than a screw against a pole? If our industry can come up with modern mic stands (yes, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for), why not guitar/bass stands?

Sturdy, stable, secure

By David P. from Virginia
Music Background: Long-time amateur

The best guitar stands in my opinion—solid construction; sturdy, no-tip base; and a mechanism that secures the neck and prevents the guitar from falling forward.

Fantastic Guitar Stand!

By Sweetwater Customer

The Hercules Stands GS414B PLUS Single Guitar Stand with Auto Grip System works great with my acoustic guitar. No worries about knocking the stand over or losing the guitar off the stand. The padded legs allow for soft resting points for the guitar body. The neck grip keeps the guitar held firmly in place and has the option to add the soft resting pads. The nice feature about this stand is the way the guitar mostly hangs from the neck grip and the guitar body gently rests against the padded legs. The height adjustment is easy and can accommodate various size instruments. The stand and neck can be separated and the stand folded up for travel.

Hercules GS414B Plus Single Guitar Stand

By Mike C.
Music Background: 50 year guitar and bass player

Hercules is now my favorite go to brand for accessories. The Hercules products are built heavily and do what they were designed to do exceptionally well. They offer great value for their cost. This guitar stand works extremely well for my Firebird guitar and would be great for other non-traditional shaped guitars such as Explorers, Flying V's, etc. that will not rest in standard stands. The tripod base makes for exceptional stability and the hanger locks the guitar in place preventing it from falling out. Get one today; you won't regret it!

Love it

By JP from Arizona

Love it so much I bought a second. I've always hated those stupid little forks that hold the guitar body on cheap stands. They spin around and the strap gets caught etc. None of that here. This stand is very solid and stable. The body just rests against the well-padded legs, easy peasy. The neck holder has a cool mechanical system that automatically closes to lock the neck in place when you put the guitar in and opens when you take it out. I added the strap/headphones holder accessory and I'm glad I did, but even without it, this is a great stand. Highly recommend.

fantastic stand.

By paul l. from ROSCOE, NY

If you never had a hercules stand you definitely gotta get one if you want to be confident in your guitar's safey. Especially you Gibson and Epiphone lovers. You know what I'm talking about, you know, about that headstock, you know, a dive on that thing could really break your heart. I have never owned a guitar stand that filled me with the confidence that this thing does. It's sturdy it's strong as all get out, and I know my Epiphone Les Paul is safe. And one day when I finally can afford a Gibson Les, Paul or SG i'm not going to spend a couple thousand dollars on it and put it in a cheaply made stand. I'm going to get a Hercules. I recommend you do too. Thank you for your time. Thank you for listening to my TED talk

By John J. from Winchester, Massachusetts
Music Background: Have played in a Beatles band (bass and guitar, a gypsy music foursome ((Rhythm gguitar), a Motown ensemble (I was the black guitarist), a church ensemble and solo.

This stand is like the Rock of Gibraltar. It is really difficult, if not impossible to knock over without a baseball bat of TNT. Seriously, it is very stable and grabs the headstock securely. I use if it a room full of bluegrass musicians who are always changing their instruments. Funny how they always seek out my guitar stand.

My second One, since the first one has done so well

By Sweetwater Customer from Georgia

So I purchased one over a year ago and have used it for practice and gigs. It is way sturdier that typical guitar stands and keeps my guitars much safer. I have had no issues with the mechanical parts nor the foam protection on the legs. I play out using two guitars most of the time. I have the fancy three guitar foldout case and a double stand. I found that most venues have a small stage area and the double basic metal stand is not safe enough. So I bought a second one of these and it works great. I can fit two guitars next to each other in a pretty tight space. The fold up nicely and fit into a Mic stand bag well. After having guitars do the face plant because someone knocked into a stand, It was easy to pay a little extra for the protection of your valuable instruments.

xcellent Stand for Rickenbacker Bass

By Lawrence R. from Pearland, TX

This is hands-down the best stand I've used for my Rickenbacker bass. It's the only one that's given me full confidence that my instrument won't tip over. The stand is very sturdy and well-balanced, which is crucial for the offset body and neck-heavy design of a Ric.

What really sets it apart is the soft, secure padding around the headstock area and the locking mechanism that holds the neck in place. It keeps the bass firmly supported without scratching or stressing the finish.

If you're looking for a reliable stand that you can trust with your high-end instrument, this is the one. I won't use anything else now.

Good Stand!!!

By Jeff from SPRINGFIELD, IL

I wasn't sure if I would just like it, or really love it. After a few weeks, I feel like this is "safer" way to park a guitar. Much better than older single-guitar stands. I really like the extra spacers for narrower necks like a tele. I think they are a little pricey for what they are.

Perfect For My Needs

By Sweetwater Customer from Left Coast
Music Background: Decades of jazz

My guitar teacher told me that he'd had a luthier glue the headstock back onto his 12 string because his cat had knocked the guitar over. I resolved to find the most sturdy guitar stand I could to prevent a similar mishap from ever befalling my favorite archtop. My sales engineer recommended this stand, and I think it's *perfect* for my needs. The stand has some real heft to it, and the wide tripod base is very stable. Perhaps best of all, the yoke (the part that holds the guitar) has little tabs that, when the guitar is put onto the stand, rotate up to hold the guitar in place. Great design!

Very Secure Stand for Guitar and Bass

By John T. from Milwaukee, WI

After 50 years of playing I've purchased several stands of varying price and style. This one, by far, is the best I've owned. The adjustable height makes allows for perfect fit. The stand is well-built and holds the instrument securely in place with a "slant-back" angle. Although not inexpensive, it is certainly worth the price. I also bought the stand's bag, which can be slung over the shoulder for easy carrying.

I have another shorter Hercules Stand I use for holding my guitar through the day in-between practing/playing. I store my guitar's in their case at night humidified. Now, while practicing I use this one. the easy grip clamp is handy and quick for removal and it's quickly height adjustable. So if your on a 24" or 36" stool very easy to reach and grab or place your guitar in. Plus it's not wobbly or unstable feeling at all. If you prize your guitars like I do. Look no further and go ahead and own one of these.

Absolutely love this stand.

By Dinklebot from Lake Tahoe
Music Background: I like to play.

This stand is fantastic. The way it holds the guitar makes it feel very secure and very safe. It is so easy to take it on and off the stand as well. I had a little stage stand and I never felt like my guitar was very secure with it. I also felt it was hard to set it down and have it stand straight. It was always leaning slightly left or right. Not with this stand though it is 100% perfect every time and really showcases the instrument.

The best guitar stand!

By John B. from Janesville, Wi

This stand rocks! My church got these for the worship team... love them - so I bought one. Other stands are fiddly. This stand is solid, with a wide base, and adjustable height - for different size guitars. It even comes with adapters for mandolin and other guitars that are more narrow. Just hang the guitar and the head stock is grabbed by the weight activated holders that move into place to securely hold your axe. The body of your guitar rests against the legs - which are covered with a thick, firm foam that protects your guitar.

Trying to trust Hercules products again

By Clooney from Upstate N.Y.
Music Background: Been playing for 55+ years

I tried to fight the idea of buying another Hercules product after being wronged by the Hercules company concerning a double guitar stand and a super heavy duty mic stand that I'd purchased years ago. The dual guitar stand up-down grip dissolved into a gooey mess and the lever fell off sitting in a storage room. It stuck to my hand. # 2 the up-down clutch grip on the mic stand just decided to not grip anymore at a gig. My response from the company was " no receipty, no replacey. These items were purchased years before I even heard of SweetWater. The only reason I bought another Hercules product was because of Sweetwater having my back. The stand so far is great, sturdy and I trust it with my pride and joy Ric 4003 bass ( from SweetWater) I'd like to purchase the Hercules 3 guitar rack as I always carry two basses for shows. I leave one in the case and the other on the stand. Like I said I only bought this stand because I know I have at least two years of coverage with SweetWater. Again the 2 broken Hercules products WERE NOT purchased at SWEETWATER

Nice stand, but not the right one for my jazz bass...

By Rick from MA

I needed a stand to hold my new jazz bass (offset body) and thought this might do the trick because it holds the bass by the neck. However the peg head is not symmetrical either, so the weight is carried unevenly by one side of the yoke which causes the little pivoting arms to not line up like they would if you just push down on the yoke with your hand. Probably wouldn't have been a problem, but combined with how the offset body sat against the tripod legs the bass sat crooked in the stand, which I did not like.

The construction and materials are mostly nice. I was a little worried about how the plastic yoke and telescoping mechanism would hold up over time. The yellow tripod base looked a little out of place in my living room; my wife said it looked like Dewalt branding. Also since the yoke holds the bass by the neck, the stand is very tall and visually obtrusive even when there's nothing in it.

The price point is the last issue - between the stand, the bag, and the accessory for holding cords/headphones, I was into this thing for nearly $. I wouldn't mind the price if I loved everything else about it.

At the end of the day I bought a Fender universal electric guitar stand for $and it is the perfect solution for me and my jazz bass.

Hercules Guitar Stands

By Sweetwater Customer from Virginia

I have replaced all of my guitar stands with the Hercules Auto Grip System. It is the most stable and steady of guitar stand that I have used to hold each of my guitars. The Auto Grip System works tremendously. With the guitar gripped securely into the most stable stand, I don't have to be concerned about my prized guitars being accidentally knocked off the stand and damaged. Other stands I have used aren't as stable and secure. The single stands are great. Easy to take with me and to protect my guitars when taking a break.

Very secure

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: 47 years experience playing/ Worship Musician

The locking mechanism at the yoke makes me feel very confident that my instrument is not going to twist out and hit the stage. As I have started to buy more expensive guitars, those cheaper stands just didn't feel right anymore. I was constantly worried that some vibration from people walking by or music being played was going to cause my guitar to twist out of the yoke. This stand also has a quick height adjust to accommodate multiple styles of guitars or basses.

I like this style of stand because they seem to be less prone to tipping over. I'm sure there's some sort of geometry lesson here, but that's above my pay grade. This particular stand is well-constructed and sturdy and it came with some larger bushings for the neck clamp, which helped secure a narrow-necked Martin.

Best stand ever

By Sweetwater Customer

I have a number of stands that I have used in my practice area the years, some crafted from wood and very attractive however a moment of carelessness with most of them allows the guitar to be dislodged and on occasion make it all the way to the floor. Not so with this, the legs can be adjusted for a wide stance so that the stand itself is very stable the greatest feature is that if placed on the stand correctly the neck of is surrounded by two "Auto lock" levers that are actuated by the weight of the guitar. The bulk of my stable is comprised of classical guitars some that are very light yet they work just fine with this stand. So whilst it may not win any beauty contest or match your wood furniture it will hold your guitar securely!

Great Stand

By Sweetwater Customer

I have used multiple type of stands over the years. If you want the security of knowing your guitar is not going to be knocked off its stand while on a gig, this is for you. I have only had this stand for a month but so far it is perfect for me. I wish there was a double style with this locking mechanism. Keep in mind that this is made with some plastic, so long term and heavy usage could see it wear out. But for the price it is the best out there. If they made a completely metal one for double the price I would buy it. This beats anything in its price range.

Great stand

By Tom from Noth GA

Love these stands. This is the second one I've bought. Bought the first one 6 months ago when I purchased my first high end guitar. I feel the guitar is much safer in these stands than the 15-20 dollar ones I use to use. Love the auto locking head holder. No chance of an accidental fall out of the stand. Also the stand is super sturdy and it would take a lot to tip it over. As you can see in the pic, I cover the foam parts with microfiber cloth to protect the nitro finishes

Stable, does the job

By Steven P. from Oakland, CA

Some people might think this is overkill, but I want to put my guitar on something stable and this does the job. Most of the others I'm afraid of them tipping over accidentally or the guitar falling off, which I've seen happen enough. Must be a matter of taste (or clumsiness) as I see lots of people with those paperweight type receivers that just sit on top of the guitar amp, guitar falls over if you look at it funny. That the locking mechanism engages automatically is a nice design point. I do wonder a bit (novice guitar player here) about hanging a guitar by the neck, but I assume if that was a problem they wouldn't sell.

I own 3 of these... all of which I purchased from Sweetwater. I have three Fender & Sadowsky Jazz basses and these work better than anything I've seen because of the asymmetric body shape. Disappointing guitar stand

By Sweetwater Customer from San Mateo California

Reasonable engineering concept.
However the low quality materials appears to be the problem.

I had mine for four years until the plastic pieces started breaking off.
The first year of course the classic sticky melting pieces of plastic.
I tried to clean with soap and water to no avail.
Every time I picked up the stand I got sticky syrup on my hands very annoying.
Finally the height adjustment mechanism simply shattered. all of the plastic components just fragmented.

I will not buy another Hercules stand.

Does not work for a banjo

By Dennis D. from New Albany, OH
Music Background: Playing banjo and guitar for about 10 years with others and for myself

I purchased this stand to hold my bluegrass banjo. I saw that the stand was designed to hold a banjo as well as other instruments. I looked at the reviews and contacted my sales rep and everything was good. That is until I received the stand. It was easy to put it together, just a couple pieces. The quality of the stand is very good, but …
When I placed my banjo in the stand, the lower two tuning pegs rested against the housing on the back of the unit. I had put on the additional rubber tubes on the arms with the expectation that the distance between the arms would be narrow enough to hold the banjo neck in place. I was wrong. This bluegrass banjo I have is a standard size so if this stand works for a banjo, I am not sure what banjo is being referenced.

I hope no one else makes the mistake of purchasing this stand with the idea that it will hold a banjo. If there is something I am missing, my rep did not know. Very sad.

Hercules Single Guitar stand

I have found all Hercules products to be well designed. After watching one of my guitars fall off a stand at a windy outdoor gig once I decided to invest in a higher quality stand. I have three Hercules stands now and find them secure in all conditions.

The reviews don't lie....

By D.L. from OH
Music Background: Guitarist for 30+ years

Had owned a few of these for a while, originally they are a great stand, especially convenient for stage use. However all the reviews that state that the plastic/rubber parts turn to a sticky mess are completely accurate. It's whatever chemical is in that plastic, after a while it starts to bleed out and the parts slowly disintegrate. I have to wonder about all the five-star reviews, people shouldn't jump to giving something a glowing review until they have spent a little time with it to see how it really is....

Great guitar stand

By Ron L. from NJ
Music Background: Playing guitar since 1960

I bought this GS414B PLUS stand to use with my solid body guitars, currently for my Gibson SG. The stand is even better than I expected. With one hand, just lift the guitar and the arms securing it open automatically. This one-hand motion is a dream! I like it much better than the simple A-frame stands or the Fender stand that looks like the Hercules GS414B PLUS but isn't as robust or easy to use.

A better idea

By Michael G. from Dorset, Vermont

The benefit of this stand is that the body of the instruments is not bearing weight. The guitar is suspended securely at the headstock and the instrument is not sitting on its wooden body making it less likely to scratch or for the finish to have a reaction with any rubber or foam used to cradle an instrument in a traditional stand.
The securing mechanism works smoothly and effortlessly.

started great but ended poorly

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Piano, brass, guitar, bass guitar, drums, keys, production, touring, done it all.

I really loved this stand for the first couple of years that I used it, but then the foam on the legs deteriorated, and eventually the neck position on the stand failed. I used the stand a lot, so the mechanical failure at the neck position could have been due to use, but the foam should not deteriorate.

So far so five star

By Johnny from PA
Music Background: Semi-pro

Got fed up w worrying about my cheap stands toppling or scratching my guitars. This stand has an elegantly simple design that works perfectly. The automatic neck closure is awesome for one-handed lift outs. The contact points are padded with dense foam. The hardware seems sturdy and substantial, and the legs extend nicely, so I don't worry about the stand tipping at all. It's not light, which is great for home or studio use, but you may not want to haul it to gigs.
One caution to any fellow clutzs out there. When lifting the stand and guitar at the same time, don't grab the adjustment latch or you may find your guitar in free fall. Phew!
As always, thanks to Andy, my rep, for his patience and expertise!

Best stand available...

By Michael H. from Florida
Music Background: Gigging musician, bass player

I've been playing in bands for 40 years. I've gone through tons of guitar stands. I've probably left behind 50 stands at gigs over the years:(

That being said, the best stand by far for durability, safety and practicality is the Hercules stand. The fact that it's doesn't need to be disassembled, and it collapses into a straight line makes it very easy to schlep around for load-ins and load-outs. The traditional stand you have to remove the U shaped piece from the base to fit into a gig bag, this means it's awkward to transport and the parts often get lost or separated... also the foam tube thingys always fall off and get lost. The Hercules is well made and sturdy. Your guitar is much less likely to get knocked over.

What’s the problem? Great stand

By Charles F. from READING, PA
Music Background: Lead guitar and bass is, semi professionally, I’m also a sound man….

I saw dozens of negative reviews on another site with literally only one good review. So I came to Sweetwater and literally couldn't find a bad review.
I've been using an older sticky handled double guitar Hercules stand for a really long time. The goo comes off with goo gone and alcohol but, the handle as everyone mentioned did break as the usual complaint. The fix was to put a screw through the stands neck where the adjustment takes place….works like a charm. If I need a different height I just remove the crew (bolt with wing nut), raise or lower it and replace the nut and besides, I don't need to take it apart to transport it, just fold the legs. Problem solved, it's old, it's plastic, what do you expect??
The single stand I just received: the old stand accommodates most guitars greatly except it doesn't lean back, which is needed for a heavy long bass. This new stand does just that….and PERFECTLY.
WHAT WERE ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT?? They all jumped on the bandwagon with that one. The complaint is that the new stands are horribly wobbly?? That's B.S., this stand is very solid. I put my Jazz bass on it and it doesn't wobble at all AND it's solid as a rock. The stand leans back to help with the center of gravity. This thing is very rigid and I'll trust it anywhere.
If I were anyone else looking for a rock solid stand, this would be where the search ends.

Older Herculese double stand.

By Charlie F. from Reading Pennsylvania
Music Background: Lead guitar, Bass guitar and Sound Tech.

Worked great for years, until like every one else complains about. The lever release grip broke but before that the rubber coating deteriorated.
I used Alcohol to get the goop off, then put a screw through where my height for my guitar was basically set. That's been holding up but the screw I mounted went through the plastic and through a height hole. We'll now the screw got loose so I'm going to put a hole through threw the hole thing and put a lock washer and a wing nut on to tighten it up. That should work rather than throw it away. I saw bad reviews on the new stands about being flimsy on another we'll know store site but, I'll take my chances and but a single stand for my bass. That way the bottom of the bass will rest against the legs and lean back.
Putting my Jazz bass on the double seems a bit shaky. The double doesn't lean back like the single stand, I watched videos on stability of the single stands….looks promising for the bass and I'll just keep hanging the Les Paul, Strat and Telecasters on the double, it worked great for them.

Mostly like

By Michael from Atlanta

I love the idea of these stands: the hanging guitar, and the stand releases it to you when you grasp it. The reason for four and not five stars: the tall tripod part feels solid and strong, but recently they did some sort of redesign to the interface between the main tripod part and the yoke up top that grabs the guitar. Said interface feels a little wobbly/rickety. It seems like they're maybe building these so the yoke could be swapped out for, say, a banjo grip or something. But I don't need that. It seems like earlier versions used to feel more solid and strong at that point.

That "Sticky Goo" Prob...

By BoogieMan B. from Hiding
Music Background: Drums, Bass, Listening, Learning

I play and build quality basses. No one needs a faulty stand to ruin a prized instrument no matter what it cost.

All of the negative reviews center around the recipe used for the plastic parts. I have looked at those reviews with pics and this seems to have been a learning process for Hercules. China is...well...China and a nightmare to deal with. Their "standards", labor, and care can suddenly change with the wind. I have known many successful companies who went out of business just because of the hassles with Chinese continuity and consistency.

Fortunately my Hercules stands are from a newer era. My models, bought at diff. times, have all been in service for at least 3-4yrs. The gripper midway on the long arm is not the same shape as the older ones so I assume Hercules got that issue fixed. Just ask them directly. Mine have not deteriorated or become sticky. I don't tour or gig regularly but using one of my many stands in my workshop is a pretty hard life and no difference can be seen between it and my more-protected stands.

Having had most all of the stand designs over the years and basses which have asymmetrical butts, such a Warwick Dolphin Pro or some of my customs, the Hercules stand is the ONLY one that will hold these basses securely. So try for a newly made model and, if buying used, pay close attention to details. I am a devote Hercules stand fan.

Rugged, Reliable and Safe

By Emil Y. from Allentown, PA
Music Background: Pro musician in '70s and '80s, now playing for enjoyment

Hercules guitar stands are top notch in design and quality of construction. You'll feel safe cradling your guitar in one of these with the passive restraining system that works from the weight of the guitar. Now they have added collars for small headstock guitars like Teles. Wherever your guitar touches the stand has soft material to reduce stand rash. I highly recommend.

THIS WORKS GREAT, HERCULES STANDS ARE TOP-SHELF!!

By Mike V. from Relaxing and working on the Gulf Coast……
Music Background: Player, engineer, composer, orchestrator, been doing a lot for a long time….

Fist off, thanks to my wonderful sales engineer Matt Alexander, when Matt makes a recommendation, I listen. Needed a good stand for a new bass, have Hercules Stands, but only for guitars. If you have never used one, you just place your guitar/bass in between the tabs, lower slightly, stand "grabs" your instrument, holds safe and secure, one hand operation, you gotta try one, worth the $$$ for sure.
As far as Matt, he has been my sales engineer for almost eight years, I can't say enough good things about him and I always count on Matt for wisdom and a fun conversation. And, SWEETWATER? Man, if you are reading this you already know!!

Hercules and their auto self-distruct products

By Marc M.

Just want to let you all know that although Hercules products seem well built and engineered, their products have a tendency of self-distructing after 10-15 years. Yes, the cheap quality plastic components they use will literally start to melt and fall apart. Lost over 4 stands because the adjusting handle just melted and broke off. It's like these products have a auto self-distruct mechanism hidden inside them. Save your money and buy the cheap stand that will last 10 times longer.

Best Stands I've Owned, So Far...

By Ed C. from Niagara Falls, NY
Music Background: Semi-Pro Studio Musician

Probably like everyone here, I've owned several different guitar stands.

These stands are great. Breaking down and setting up the stand is easy. Not going to say it's easier than other stands, but it is no way more difficult. Because of the way you can break it down, it travels nicely. And I love the auto locking mechanism. My basses feel more secure in these stands versus others that I have own. It also seems to handle bumps better than my other stands.

I have two of these (one recently purchased and another one for over a year) and haven't had one issue with them yet. I say "yet" because I've read some reviews where they mention the components breaking down over a period of time. I haven't had these long enough to confirm or deny this, so the jury is still out on that :). I will update my review if that does happen.

Fits any size guitar/bass

By John from South Florida
Music Background: 55+ years of playing, gigging and recording

I've been using this type of Hercules stand for the past 14 years or so, the reason I buy more is because I keep accumulating guitars and I like to keep extra stands out in my studio so that when bands come to rehearse here or friends drop by to jam, they have a secure place for their precious guitars that prevents them from suffering damage. I saw a friend snap the headstock off of a vintage LP because he leaned against his amp on stage and tripped over his cable as he walked off.

I vowed to never let that happen in my studio or on a stage where I am performing. So I chose Hercules to take care of my babies. They do a great job, especially with odd shaped guitars like Flying V's, Explorers, Jackson Kelly's, any BC Rich, Dean Z's, and basses too. The tripod base assures there is no wobble due to uneven floors.

I've used just about every guitar stand that's available, to me Hercules is the most seecure.

If you need a guitar stand, you need THIS stand!

By Randy B. from Northern Nevada
Music Background: Advanced amateur

Having a cord coming out from the end pin jack means I needed a stand to hold my guitar higher off the floor to keep it stable. This stand does just that. I don't have any instrument cables with an "L" shaped jack, so my guitar's weight was directly on the straight jack and the internal jack mechanism which worried me. This stand holds my guitar far off the floor so there is no longer any weight on that point. Additionally, this is an incredibly stable stand so bumping into it on a crowded stage won't send my guitar crashing to the ground.

This is the best stand I've ever owned.

By Michael M. from Calabasas, CA

There are stands of all sorts, most of which have you set your instruments down onto it. Especially for an oddly shaped axe, like my circa 2000 Fernandes Vertigo, as shown here.

Banjo stand??

By Emory S. from VA

These are great stands. Very stable. I'm getting ready to order a 3rd stand. However, I'm a grasser and, although these stands come with a second set of "thicker" grommets for skinnier necks, they're still not big enough to compensate for the narrow banjo neck. When I set my banjo in the stand it the 1st and 4th pegs sit on the stand and the stand knocks the banjo out of tune (please, no banjo out of tune jokes here). :) Does anyone else you one of these stands for the banjo and come up with a "fix" for this problem? Otherwise, I love this stand and will order a 3rd stand. I switch between banjo, dobro, and my D-28 for a couple of show tunes, given the height you set these stands, it makes it easy to switch between instruments while the mandolin or fiddle perform.

Hercules Stands GS414B Plus Single Guitar Stand with Auto Grip System

By John S. from QUAKERTOWN, PA

I have a number of higher-end guitars. Most of the time they live in their cases, but when I'm playing a few, I sometimes take them out and place them in a K&M Guardian 5 Guitar Stand while I'm doing so. I don't gig, but it was a pain to always place them in the K&M when I just needed to set the guitar down for a few minutes. I also had no good options if I decided to play in another room. I do own a cheap single guitar stand, but would never trust it with my better guitars. With that in mind, I reached out to my trusted Sales Engineer, Chris Shura, for his suggestions. I voiced my concerns about my guitars doing a faceplant or having the finish scratched or damaged due to a cheaper stand. He directed me to the Hercules GS414B Plus. Trusting Chris, as he as never failed me before, I ordered the stand. I received it promptly and well packed, like all of Sweetwater's orders, accompanied by their standard bag of candy. Taking the Hercules stand out of the package, I could both feel and see that it was rock solid. The stand has three legs that lock out to the side very securely when you extend them. The legs are well padded, as the body of your guitar rests against them when in the stand. The shaft of the stand can be adjusted to fit guitars of various heights. At the top of the shaft is a device that resembles a claw. When no guitar is in the stand, the arms of the claw hang down. Once a guitar is placed into the claw, the two arms rotate up due to the weight of the guitar and gently lock it in place at the base of the headstock. This arrangement makes for a very solid, but gentle way to secure the guitar. The first few times I used the stand, I checked my guitars for any light finish scratching or discoloration on contact points with the stand, but I am pleased to report that the finish remained perfect. This is a fantastic stand and is worth the extra money to protect your valuable instruments. As always, thank you Chris Shura. I really appreciate what you do, and thank you Sweetwater.

Great stand and would purchase another

By Matt from Red Wing, MN
Music Background: Intermediate level bass and guitar

Works great and easy to use. The weight of the guitar engages the locking mechanism and lifting the guitar releases it. What I like about this is that I can put my guitar into it, or take it out of the stand with one hand and never worry about doing it wrong or having the stand not lock the guitar in place when I let go of it. Other G stands I've used in the past needed an extra step to hook the rubber loop to lock it in place. I use this for bass and guitar.

New & improved

By Tommy L. from Milwaukee WI
Music Background: Experienced

I've used & liked my older Hercules guitar stand for several years. It's strong, folds up easily & compact, is very stable & I love the locking mechanism that cradles the neck preventing my Fender bass from tipping over. The only downfall of the older Hercules stands was the rubberized grip/latch in the middle that would get very tacky to the point being sticky. Sticky is never good when handling your guitar.
The new Hercules GS414B stand has overcome that by using a durable hard plastic grip/latch that's smaller (less weight) but just as functional as the old rubberized one. Other than that the new version performs the same tasks & just as well as the older style.
If you value your guitar, spend the extra money & get a stand that will protect it like you would protect it. It's cheap insurance.

Like an assistant

By Rob from Kosciusko, MS

I love this thing. It's like someone sitting there waiting to hand me my guitar or take it when I'm done playing it. After fiddling with other types, especially those that use a 'rubber band' to keep your instrument safe, this stand is a breath of fresh air. Yes, I know it's just a guitar stand, but trust me, if you've only had 'lesser' stands, once you buy one of these, you won't want to go back.

Great gigging guitar stand

By Bill M. from Florida

This is my 4th Hercules guitar stand as I bought a new guitar. Before I discovered the Hercules stand, my experience with guitar stands was not good. I used the kind where the guitar body rests on a padded seat then the neck leans against the top pad. The incident which made me change stands was ; I was playing on stage in the Netherlands at an important gig when I bumped into the guitar stand (which held my 12 string acoustic/electric guitar) when I stepped back from the mic. The guitar fell off the stand, toppled forward onto the headstock which snapped !!
This could never happen with a Hercules. It is firmly held at the neck with the body lightly suspended against body pads on the legs. It is as solid as a rock. I will never use another kind of guitar stand - this one is perfect for me. I trust it 100% As for Sweetwater - they delivered it within a couple of days - flawless execution and great / fair prices.

Worth it!

By Dick M. from Buffalo NY area
Music Background: Semi-pro 56 years

I own two of these and I'll gradually replace the other stands that I have. You might think these stands are too expensive. Just remember, you get what you pay for! The best thing about this stand is that it doesn't have the wishbone at the bottom. That thing always seems to tangle with the cable. This is really handy for live gigs. Just grab your guitar and go! I do a solo gig with six and twelve string guitars and an A/B selector switch. No more tangles and no danger of tipping over the other guitar. Also very stable, very adjustable and folds nicely. Buy one!

Little things

By Sweetwater Customer

Let's face it, it's a stand. But it feels like I'm actually handing my guitar to someone who's not gonna drop it when I use this stand. Worth the money, if nothing else just to get rid of that uneasy feeling I get when using one of those old or cheap less than stable stands. Also, when the stand hands the guitar back it doesn't hold on to the strap!

Awful Awful Awful

By Barry M. from PORTLAND, OR
Music Background: 45 Years playing in all kinds of settings

This stand will break down because the plastic parts are made with some kind of oil that disintegrates over time. I had mine for about four years and really liked it until it just came apart one day. It was covered in this strange sticky oil. The plastic is from like china or something and it is unstable. If you look online you will find other stories like this. I am not exagerating folks. It blew me away when it happened. It was holding a very old guitar and it just let the guitar slide to the ground. The guitar stood up still simply because it was leaning on the fork holder. NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

Hercules Floor Stands for Guitars

By Michael from Texas
Music Background: 45+ years of p,aying

I have several Fender Telecasters. Because of their thin necks many floor stands just won't securely hold the guitars. I had purchased several Hercules wall stands that have the "Auto Grip" system and they worked so well I purchased a couple of the Hercules GS414B PLUS Single Guitar Stand with the same type of "Auto Grip" System. Voila - problem solved for my Teles, ukes, and any other thin-necked string instruments. Additionally, these stands are so well balanced I can imagine the stands would tip over unless someone fell into it. Get some, these are great,

Best stand, hands down

By Mark from Phoenix

I've had just about every stand available (including custom stands, hangers, etc.) and nothing is as sturdy, effective and gentle for guitars, basses, etc. that these Hercules stands. I've had nitro-finished instruments hanging in them, full time, for more than 2 years with no visible effect on the finish. These are the only ones I've been able to use for nitro finishes - so far, so good.
Highly recommended. Yes they're a bit pricey, but this is professional grade equipment - and very kid-proof. Heck I've plowed into mine in the middle of the night, knocked the guitar all around but the thing stayed secure in the stand and the stand never came close to falling over. It uses the guitar's own weight (and its vert stable case) in its favor. SUPER secure and stable.

hercules GS414B PLUS stand review

By William from Wichita, KS
Music Background: Guitar Hobbyist

was using lean into stands with a cradle at the bottom before. for the price I just expected it to be heftier than they usually were.

and INDEED it was. it's twice as tall as the neck doesn't lean into it as it has no cradle. it hangs down and the body leans against foam padded legs.

no more tabs to secure it or loosen it, the hanging it down makes the levers that hold it in place come up. hang and go, grab and play. simple.

a go to stand for me from now on. I can't see any reason at all to go back. I LOVE this thing.

Hands Down the Best

By Dennis A. from Burney, Calif.
Music Background: intermediate

Now, what will I do with the other three guitar stands I've bought over the years? This Hercules is hands down the best guitar stand on the market. I use it on a Taylor Grand Pacific and a Gibson J200 and J35. It hold all three w/o any problems.
You won't be disappointed with this stand.

The only negative is that it was supposed to come with a free pick holder. It didn't. Probably an oversight from Sweetwater.

Nice Stand

By James

Hercules seems to be the only company I can find that will make a stand for an odd-shaped guitar such as a V, Explorer and so forth. This is the 3rd Hercules stand I've purchased and all three are currently being used. They're not the cheapest, but they're sturdy and so far all have been worth the money. At this time I would buy another if needed.

I'll also say it was nice that Sweetwater had these as the local don't-wanna-say-names big-box central place for guitars didn't have these in stock. And to be honest, it was worth shipping and waiting to avoid going into the centrally located big-box place for guitars and what you go through just go inside and simply look around during this time of nuttiness in the world.

great stand

By Sweetwater Customer

I tripped over my guitar strap and knocked it off its stand. The stand was one with a plasticy rubbery strip you could pull and stretch over the guitar neck to hold it in place. I almost never did that because then you'd have to unstrap it later on.

I caught the guitar. And I found THIS stand instead. It auto-locks the head in place. And it is generally more stable.
Best stand ever.

Excellent value for quality and peace of mind

By David M. from Seattle area
Music Background: Been learning to play since 1964

This is a well engineered stand. It readily adapts to instruments of various sizes and shapes and secures them quickly. It can hold my valuable acoustics higher off the floor than traditional stands so I'm not so concerned when my Scottie plays near them. Even when raising the height, the center of balance stays between the triangular footprint and remains stable. It can be raised and lowered quickly and intuitively to accommodate the largest 12-string to my smallest size #1 parlor.

The superb design depends on the power of gravity which is something you can count on all the time For example the positive lock at the headstock remains secure until you lift up your guitar off the stand and positively embraces your guitar when you put it back down

We're not talking about laying out a lot of cash for one either. The higher cost more than compensates you in security and peace of mind when amortized over a lifetime of use. It's a great value and superior to my traditional stands

So far, I am unable to find anything amiss with the stand and therefore give it five stars. It suits my needs and exceeds my expectations. I hope it does for you too, if not simply return it to Sweetwater

Top quality

By Sweetwater Customer from 500 feet above sea level
Music Background: 40+ years gigging

As always Hercules delivers. I have several of their stands and they are all excellent. That's what prompted the purchase of this one. It is well-made and sturdy. In terms of value it is an excellent buy. If you use the stand for a $1000 or $2000 for a $3000 instrument, it needs to be stable to protect your investment. I imagine that the only place the stand would not be stable would be during an active earthquake. Highly recommended. Also need to mention that Sweetwater delivers very quickly with just a phone call. Thank you Wayne Wildman!

Beware These stands don't last more than a year or two!!!

By Sweetwater Customer

So I own around 20 guitar stands in my studio. Most are from the Company Hercules. I now have had about 1/2
of them fail. What happens is the height changing mechanism which is made of a rubberized plastic starts to disintegrate. Eventually causing complete failure. The first warning sign is the grip becomes very sticky and some weird goopy stuff gets on your hands. Is this stuff safe? Soon after that the plastic just disintegrates and teh stand collapses. I had a beautiful gold top Les Paul on one of them that now has a nice dent. So I did a search on the internet and it turns out this is a wide spread problem. So I contacted customer support and sent them pictures of the stands including close up pictures of each serial number. They responded without receipts they would not honor a replacement. Who keeps receipts for guitar stands past a few years? These are supposed to have life time warranties? Just a warning to all before buying their stands do some research on the internet apparently there are many of out there who have had similar experiences!!!

By Sweetwater Customer

I like the design, easy to use, portable, and enables quick guitar changes. Unfortunately it doesn't last. I gig about once a month (no touring). The latches on both my stands broke and the rubber parts on the stand shaft are deteriorating into a sticky goo.

To improve this product you would need to make it more durable and use better rubber.

Banjo - need clamp adjusters for smaller neck

By Sweetwater Customer from Los Angeles
Music Background: bluegrass band & church band: banjo, mandolin, guitar

I very much appreciate Hercules products -- very well made, but I cannot find the adjusters that are made that will make the neck holder narrow enough to hold an expensive banjo (these things weigh 16 lbs)... can you help? So far, I can only put my guitars on the stand and sometimes a mandolin.

Not for me

By Chuck from New York State

This stand will not grip my classical guitar or my Gibson L6s. One has a neck that is too big. One has a neck that is too small. A competitor recommended this and against my better judgement got it. Why you should ignore the negative reviews ...

By Allen S. from Ankeny, IA
Music Background: bassist

I bought two of these stands, one in 2009 and another in 2013. Both are the GS414. They both eventually developed the sticky, gummy grips and adjustment knob. I was NOT happy as it took 3 hand washings to get the residue off. I decided to put up with the defective stands assuming at the time they were past the warranty period.

Recently I was in the market for another stand so searched the internet and found some buyers that had good results from the company with their defective stands. I contacted Hercules. They required a receipt and specific photos of the stands. Once I was able to provide that (I keep receipts for all music gear) they notified that they would be shipping two stands as replacements.

I went ahead and ordered that additional stand (I now own three). The grips on the new models are perfect and appear to be capable of lasting many years.

I have never encounted such a company that stands so firmly behind its products. Thank you Hercules.

Flying V?

By Aaron from Western PA
Music Background: 40+ years semi-pro, bands, recording, sound operations, etc.

It isn't advertised as such, but we took a chance and this one nailed it. Anyone with a Flying V knows, the average stand is sloppy, wobbly, and not very safe for that guitar shape. Without the washers, and adjusted up, this keeps the V off the floor, and STABLE. For once, I'm not afraid to walk away from it. Not the lowest price, but it's a bit more specialized. If ya need a stand for a V -- this is it.

Great stand! Well built and does what it’s supposed to do. The mechanism that secures the neck of your guitar when placed in the stand works smoothly and seems very robust. The stand is also nicely weighted.

An early reviewer mentioned that some of the rubberized parts on his stand developed a sticky feel to them after a period of time. I had an older stand that developed this same issue after a few years of use. I believe Hercules has rectified this issue though as the 2 new stands I purchased don’t seem to use that same rubbery material.

Perfection for the last ten years.

By Larry from California
Music Background: Advanced amature

There are some reviewers here that state that they have used this strand for five years and the plastic parts became sticky and gummy and that the stand completely fell apart. I have owned this same model of stand for ten years. Nothing on the stand has become gooy or sticky and I still use the stand every day to support any of several guitars. The stand still looks new. It still functions like new and there has never been a hint of any problem. I simply do not believe these negative reviews and I believe that these are real and accurate accounts. Hercules stands are the best. They do not fail and they will not mar a lacquer finish. I have also used their wall hangers for years with never a failure or any part.

Strong as Hercules!

By Phil S. from Music City, USA
Music Background: Collector

Hercules stands and hangers are the best available today, in my opinion. I was sad that I could purchase hangers and stands for my guitars, but not for my banjos... Well, be sad no more! Thanks to NINA (the narrow neck instrument adapter), so-equipped Hercules stands and hangers can be used on banjos, mandolins, and other thin-necked instruments. Strong and Well Built

By Sweetwater Customer

After having used some other hanging guitar stands, I just bought another Hercules and will look no further. The other stand's locking mechanism lost grip and it will no longer hold a guitar. The Hercules mechanical locking will never do that. It is a little heavier but well worth it.
I find hanging stands far superior to other stands - not only in how safely they hold a guitar, but also in the ease of use for hanging and retrieving the guitar/bass.

For the price the material used should last decades.

They don't last

By LEX from Los Angeles
Music Background: Pro

I bought 5 of them in 2009. Not only did every one of them crumble at the adjustment, the plastic became all sticky to the point you need a solvent to remove the residue from your hands.

...it isn't worth it. Great stand in concept, horrible in the critical materials area.

Maybe they will change the design, but I don't want another 5 of them to crumble after those fail too.

it will fall apart on you!

I've owned this stand for over 5 years. It's never been knocked over or abused in any way. Last night while moving my 3 guitar stand in place of this one I'd lifted the stand with no guitar on it and the locking mechanism that holds the top to the base came/ broke apart. Also, the rubber piece surrounding that locking arm was sticky to the touch and wouldn't even wash off of my hands! I have no idea what that's All about. I will never buy another one again.

Hercules guitar stand

By Bryan R. from Webb City ,mo

I loved the stands (I've bought 2) when I first got them. Perfect for stage and home, but not long after using them, the rubber or plastic height adjuster part began to get sticky. Today one of them broke completely off! I really thought they would last longer, seemed pretty well made, but its like they are disintegrating??

Hercules Stand

This stand is so convenient, either putting your guitar in it or taking it out. The back leg is a little shorter causing the stand to lean back slightly which improves its stability. Onstage it's very fast and easy to switch out guitars and it folds up neatly for packing. I highly recommend this stand.

Hercules guitar stand

Functionally the gutarvstand is okay. However, when the stand falls over ( and it will) the curved plastic on the hanging neck is very brittle and it will break up on impact. And, there's no place that you can order replacement parts for it. So if it breaks too bad buy another one. I had one break and chipping and I've had to fall over on stage.
