Looking for a great entry point into the world of 7-string guitars? If so, you’ll love the GRG7221QA. Very nice

Don't let the price fool you. This gutiar came in super nice. All it needed was a minor Truss rod adjustment and it was good to go. It plays very nice aswell.

Pleasantly Surprised

By Sweetwater Customer on March 27, 2023

I bought this guitar with the intent of learning how to play a 7 string. I didn't want something that would break the bank if I couldn't get used to the 7 string. At first, it was a rough transition period, having a wider neck and an extra string. But eventually you do get used to it and it feels weird to play a 6 string now. This guitar made the transition a lot easier and I was really surprised by the quality, sound, and playability of the guitar. I wasn't expecting much for this price, but it honestly feels like a more expensive guitar. Guitar was set up pretty perfectly, low action with little to no buzz. Stays in tune surprisingly well. The guitar handles drop tunings well. Pickups are fairly decent for the price. Can sound a little muddy at times, but it's not bad. The neck is probably my favorite thing about the guitar. The wizard neck is super thin and it makes playing guitar so much easier. Obviously, it's all preference. But, I have small hands so the wizard neck changed my world. The fretwork is also very good with very very minor sharpness in the edges. The only thing that I had a very slight issue with was the input jack. Other than that, pretty much perfect. This was my first guitar from Ibanez and I'm so blown away by the quality that I'm heavily considering picking up a prestige or j custom RG model. If you're looking for an affordable guitar to test the waters of the 7 string world and a great guitar in general, I highly recommend this one.

Amazing

Absolutely amazing guitar for the price. If you're looking for a 7 string to learn how to play like I was this is absolutely the right choice.

Overall a good guitar, good pickups. Handles low tunings well, mine is in 1/2 step down, and still no buzz.

The Heart and Soul of Ibanez

By Bonez from Texas on July 25, 2020 Music Background: Semi-Pro/Player Since 1998

A friend/bandmate purchased an Ibanez GRG7221QA and brought it around to my place for, as SamuraiGuitarist would call it, my HUFO (honest, unfiltered opinion). In a nutshell, the GRG7221QA is almost everything I've ever liked about Ibanez: fast-playing, comfortable, plenty of low end, and controls that at the same time are plenty simple and give more tonal options than one would typically get from a pair of humbuckers, on top of which it comes with an extra-punchy, super-responsive, fantastically flat, and utterly gorgeous purpleheart fretboard in a price range in which one could normally expect Indian laurel or, at best, maple. The only areas where this beast loses points for me are purely aesthetic. Namely, the quilted maple veneer in person looks more like it was bubblejet-printed onto a piece of vinyl and glued on, and the choice of putting a transparent finish on back the over multi-piece poplar makes it look like a middle school wood shop project from the back...like, one that got a C+ at best. It would be a simple matter to strip, sand, and refinish it, but this review is based on it as it comes. For what you'll spend on this thing, though, there's nothing better that I've run across in a musical instrument.

Amazing budget 7 string!

By Britton from Texas on December 5, 2023 Music Background: Classically trained musician mostly in trumpet and voice. Love playing metal on guitar and bass.

Got this as my first 7 string guitar. It sounds amazing and plays like.butter. my only issue is personal as I like to downtune it do drop Ab and with the short leg scale length the loa Ab was a bit floppy even with thicker gage strings. Otherwise this is a killer deal and looks amazing!
