Guild P-240 Memoir Acoustic Guitar - Natural Reviews

6-string Acoustic Guitar with Solid Spruce Top, Mahogany Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, and Pau Ferro Fingerboard - Natural

The P-240 Memoir from Guild is a singer/songwriter’s dream acoustic guitar. This parlor-sized guitar harkens back to the early 20th century, when traveling songwriters and players wanted a light instrument that put out big sound. The P-240 features a solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides — a tonewood pairing that has become legendary for its rich, full, and varied tone. A gorgeous mahogany neck with pau ferro fingerboard offers outstanding playability and comfort, while scalloped X-bracing further enhances this guitar’s tone. The P-240 Memoir is a favorite among guitarists here at Sweetwater.

Great little instrument

Sounds great, plays like a dream, beautiful to look at. I think it's going to increase in value over the years. A poor man's Martin 00-18.

Beautiful Guitar with a Masterful Sound

By Bryan Tolbert from Hendersonville, NC on November 13, 2023

I absolutely Love this little beauty! Wonderfully made with Solid Sitka Spruce Top and Mahogany back and sides with Ivory bindings allow this guitar to speak well when she needs to. Just a wonderful guitar! I bought this guitar to keep close to me during my travels as well as in my office space. However I think she is going to stay in the mix with my Martin and Gibson! If you are looking for a Parlor Guitar, look no further!

I have to add. Zack Davidson who I believe is one of the most thorough Sales Engineers I have ever had the pleasure of working with has been beside me every step of the way with a number of products I have purchased reecently and because of him I will be supporting Sweetwater for many years to come! Thank you Zack and Thank you Sweetwater!!

Sincerely,

Memories of the past . . .

By Soup from Hiram, GA on March 10, 2023 Music Background: Transitioning saxophone player into the guitar world .

Ordered this lovely parlor after searching high and low for one with a 1 3/4 inch nut and no electronics. The P-240 is compact , and LOUD ! I have a Martin 000-10E . I wanted the Martin 0-18 , but at 5 times the price of this Guild . . . that was a bit much to part with . After watching a J.P. Cormier video on YouTube where he said a good guitar doesn't have to cost a fortune , I purchased this guitar ! It is my understanding that Guild has been acquired by Yamaha , so the quality and craftsmanship should be on point , even though it's crafted in China . My work partner use to always say " Good things ain't cheap , and Cheap things ain't good ! " The Guild P-240 is definitely Good , and the price tag is definitely Cheap !

What a wonderful guitar!

I was specifically looking for a parlor guitar and found what I believe is the finest parlor guitar available today… I had, after weeks of looking at Sweetwater's many fine offerings (and watching hours of YouTube videos), narrowed my choice to the Guild P-240 and I rejoice in that decision. Over the past fifty-five years, I have owned many fine guitars and this one simply ranks close to the top. It is such a lovely guitar that, when I put it next to my Martin CEO-5, it looks like a little sister to that guitar. The woods and materials are of the finest quality and the workmanship deserves top marks. The neck frets wonderfully and the tones are exquisite with the slotted headstock contributing to jewel-like sustains. This sweet little guitar will grace any parlor, stage or studio with a lovely tone and amazing ease of play. My only quibble is that I noted the P-240 did not come with a case - an odd note, easily surmountable. I chose the tooled leather Luna parlor guitar hard case and it is gorgeous - a word I don't think I've never used when referring to a case. The tooling, the plush interior and the furniture befit this guitar and I highly recommend it for the P-240 or any parlor guitar.
Thank you to Alex Campos, my Sales Engineer since the beginning of my Sweetwater experience - all of which have been wrinkle-free, smooth and pleasant. Alex is professional, knowledgeable and a very nice guy - he is a credit to Sweetwater!

Really nice Parlor Guitar

By Michael Habig from AZ on September 22, 2020 Music Background: Guitar player for 45 years.

I was looking for a Parlor guitar and stumbled across the P-240 at Sweetwater. Really liked the looks of it and found one that had a top with a lot of character(Thanks to Sweetwater's compare ability's). Wasn't disappointed! Plays great out of the box. It has a thick neck which I particularly enjoy! The guitar looks awesome and records just fantastically with a tube mic. Had considered a Parlor with a built in pickup but happy with my decision on this one.

Sweet guitar

By Cliff from California on August 9, 2020

Just purchased a Guild P-240 Memoir parlor size guitar. I'll have to say that I was a little leery of buying a guitar made in China but I read some good reviews and saw some demo clips. I've been playing a dreadnaught (Guild '76 D25), which I love but was looking for something smaller, still strictly acoustic, with a lighter tone. This guitar fits the bill perfectly. Right out of the box the mid and high range is clear and pure. The lower register is slightly muted to my ear, though still has a rich tone and responds well to a pick to bring out the bass. As with most guitars, I expect it will open up as it ages.
The build quality on this guitar is excellent. There are absolutely no finish flaws and the materials (Sitka spruce top, mahogany back, sides, and neck, pau ferro fingerboard) are top quality with no blemishes. The mother of pearl rosette is nicely finished as well and the internal x-bracing has no excess glue and looks to be well installed. My only very minor complaint is that the nu-bone saddle seems a little flimsy. At this price point, I don't believe there's anything out there that comes close to this quality.

Guild p-240 memoir

My third acoustic guitar and by far my favourite! Great sound and the size is perfect. Will buy another guild down the road.

Excellent little guitar

By Bobby from Memphis on July 13, 2019 Music Background: Over 30 years as a hobbyist and semi-professional

The Guild P-240 is a absolutely flawless guitar in every respect from workmanship to sound. I love the slightly shorter scale and the extra spacing at the 1 3/4 nut - perfect for finger style. It"s also surprisingly responsive for it"s small size with punchy lows and sweet highs whether strummed or finger picked thanks to it"s solid spruce top. This guitar is perfect for the sofa, porch, parlor or coffeehouse. It"s a very inspiring guitar to play, which leads me to my next point: Guild is building some stellar guitars that are consistent with their long heritage of quality —even the Chinese builds like this one. Guild acoustics have long been called a "poor man"s Martin" but I would say that Guild holds it"s own against any builder in quality and sound. This instrument is built to be a lifetime companion, which I hope it to be. They may even have to pry it from my cold fingers someday :)
So, here"s my recommendation: if you are looking for a sweet little guitar with an intimate, mature tone in a vintage style package, then look no further.

A lot of guitar in a little package

By Preston from Spearfish on June 13, 2019

The build of this guitar is what impressed me it seems very sturdy and will last for years and years. It is a very smooth sounding guitar that can get real loud with a nice clean tone to it while also having some lows for a little guitar. I love the shape of the neck i feel like i can really work my thumb easy without too much effort. I bought this guitar for a sofa guitar and it is sweet. Its my first 1-3/4 nut guitar and I really like it when im being a lazy bum on the sofa. Thanks guild

Good little parlor

By J Regan from PDX on March 21, 2019 Music Background: Perpetual Student

I’d been looking for a reasonably priced 12 fret to the neck, smaller bodied guitar for quite some time now. Normally I would not buy a guitar without playing it first, but I love my ‘76 Guild D-25 so took a chance given the modest price. I was not enthusiastic that it was made in China and has a Polyurethane Finish, but knew this info before I bought it. I was very surprised at the quality of the workmanship on the guitar I received. The fit and finish both inside and out are superb - clean, tight joints, and clearly put together with care and skill. Embellishments are well done and are pleasing to my eye. From what I can see, the wood used is of decent quality. The guitar I received sounds much better than I’d expected it would. I think there is a nice balance to the sound - both during strumming and fingerpicking. It is not a sound cannon like my D-25, but a quieter, more intimate sound is what I was looking for. This guitar feels and sounds like a Guild to me and that is a great thing.

Sweetwater = Awesome; Guitar = Not as great as expected

By Chris Raymer from Henderson, KY on May 4, 2023

First, I want to say that Sweetwater staff did their job! The guitar was shipped double-boxed and well padded. Communication was excellent like it always is.

The guitar is beautiful with the slotted head stock and gloss finish. I was expecting it to be a great player given all the very positive reviews, but am a little disappointed so far. There are a couple of very minor finish issues that you typically don't find on $500+ level guitars. At this price point, the $599 Taylor GS Mini is a better buy in my opinion, especially since the GS Mini includes a great soft case in that price.
