beautiful guitar, beautiful sound

By Jill Elizabeth from PHILADELPHIA, PA on January 12, 2024 Music Background: folk, rock, roots | flatpcking & fingerstyle

So very happy with this guitar! I was debating between it and the dreadnought version and decided to go with the smaller size for easier finger style playing. It responds well to finger picking and is relatively light to hold. It's extremely playable -- the neck is thin and smooth and the action is nice and low without any buzzing. It really sings -- just a lovely tone and warm resonance. And it's absolutely beautiful in person -- warm, rich wood with elegant detailing in mother-of-pearl around the sound hole and on the head stock. Thanks to Adam Trudel for all of his help in the purchase process and Riley James for an excellent setup!

Excellent Guild om120

By Sweetwater Customer on January 2, 2024

I am a Guild person, not the outrageous priced Taylor's / Martin, etc . Those who are negative with the reviews, don't have a clue about sound and playability +$$
I have a D-25 1983 Guild, an Ovation Elite . I love them both, they are my treasures ,but the Guild 120 is the easiest for strumming and finger picking, beautiful guitar too. They didn't cheep out on the quality wood, action and sound . So anyone who goes by reviews ,ignore the negative ones a get yourself one of these. Believe me I've been playing for over 50 years. I'm old but wise and right

Awesome guitar!

Everything from headstock to strap button is wonderful about this guitar. Beautiful mother of pearl appointments on the headstock and the Rosette. Extremely comfortable neck, and beautiful, mid range tones.
I'm absolutely shocked this guitar does not cost more if I didn't know any better I would say it's at least a $ instrument. Made in China or not. This is a very high-quality guitar and I'm super happy to have it in my lineup.
Sweetwater did a fantastic job as usual with keeping me up to speed on the whole process. My favorite part about them is that they check in with you after all of a sudden done to make sure you're happy. Way to go Sweetwater. You guys knocked it out of the park!

Blown Away

To say that this little hog sounds good is an understatement. There was to be no worry of build quality. Guild has as of late been putting out some great products. The mahogany on this guitar is beautiful. The seams are flawless and the set-up was fantastic. I find myself picking this guitar up more than any of my other ones while at home just picking. It feels good and is very light. Sweet fingerpicking along with the ability to handle flatpicking. It has a noticable high end and if not careful the lows can get kind of lost; but then again it is all mahogany so that is to be expected. It has a very warm and sweet tone and some volume that is hard to explain without hearing. The purchase was fantastic. I went to Sweetwater and the staff brought out several for me to compare and just let me hang out as long as I needed with no pressure. I had a blast with my son. Overall I would give this guitar a solid 8.5 out of 10. And Sweetwater gets a 10!

Great guitar. Unreal value.

By Robert T. from Indianapolis, IN on August 18, 2023

I've been impressed with this guitar from the moment I took it out of the box. It feels great, looks great, the build quality is fantastic, it sounds incredible and you just can't beat that rich mahogany smell.

At this price point, you cannot find a better guitar.

Love it!

By Sweetwater Customer on August 17, 2023

I really love the warm sound of this instrument. The OM shape was so much more comfortable for me to play than the dreadnought, plus I feel like I didn't lose much of the lower end. The mids shine through so nicely.

Great

By Alberto Munoz from ONTARIO, CA on August 10, 2023 Music Background: Bedroom Singer / Songwriter

My acoustic is my go to when writing a song so always having one is important for me. This guitar is lightweight but can project very well. The gloss finished feels smooth on my hands, there is not stick. Height of the strings is perfect without having to make any adjustment to bridge. Great for finger picking or strumming. Its not a big body so its very comfortable. In the past I have owned "lower cost" Martin and a Takamine. Both great guitars but this Guild is just better all around. Great materials, feel that you may not find in other brands at this price point.

For electronics....I added a "DeArmond Tone Boss" magnetic pickup and it sounds great.

Guild OM-120 - A great sounding and playing guitar.

By David Tauscher from Palm Springs, CA on August 3, 2023

Just received my Guild OM-120 and tried it out on a few tunes. WOW! I have another OM and wanted an all-mahogany version for the tonal differences. But I didn't want to spend the big dollars that I spent on my primary OM. This was exactly what I was hoping for. Great tone, great fit and finish, great playability and a modest price. I would give this guitar an A+ and I'm looking forward years of enjoyment. Great job Guild and thanks to my Sales Engineer at Sweetwater for suggesting this guitar.

What a guitar!

By Steve Agosto from Webster, NY on May 8, 2023

First of all, it's just a visually stunning guitar, incredibly beautiful. More importantly, it's light, comfortable and very easy to play. The action is right where I like it and the fretwork is immaculate. The tone is all I could expect from a. Mahogany guitar and then some. It's great for Fingerstyle and you can also dig in with strumming. For all this and all solid wood construction you get a lot of guitar for not much money.

guild 120-om

Just received this guitar in awesome condition and arrived on time. This guitar plays and sounds like a dream. I have never played this model before, but some research I thought lets give it a try. I'm really glad I went with this guitar. It looks awesome with not a scratch to be found and plays just right out of the gig bag. So if your looking at some higher end guitars with this body style and size give it a try. For a really good price. You will not regret it.

All I can say is WOW!!!!

By Randy Foust from Somerset, OH on June 15, 2022

I remember several years (almost 30) ago while shopping for a dread, I ran into a Guild D-4, a Guild D-40, and a Guild D-55 in a store..I was amazed at their sound and looks, and though that someday I would have Guild. Met a man later that year who played a Guild also and loved the sound. After several years of loving Martins, I have acquired several dreads including a D-18. Totally different animals than this OM. I was looking for a smaller body all Mahogany with a 1 3/4 nut. Guild had it and Guild had the sound I wanted. The build is fantastic and light along with finish being perfect. It is great flat picked or finger-picked! Simply amazing sound and feel. Oh, did I mention it is beautiful, especially with that head-stock!!!
It has a very warm and sweet sound that is great when sitting on the couch or in the church Sanctuary. The voice is a 5 out of 5 along with the intonation right out of the box. I will remind you that this is NOT a dread, but they have it in a dread body also. I would recommend swapping out the stock plastic bridge pins with a set of Ebony. Ebony pins always seem to bring out the best in Mahogany. The staff was wonderful and patient with as I tried several guitars and had them bring some from the warehouse. Great guitar and a great price for an all solid wood Guitar. I tried the Martin Mahogany offerings in this class also and in my opinion, this Guild tops their 15 series. Guild is not trying to copy Martin and it is a very different guitar than the Martins.

Guild OM 120

By James Cox from South Carolins on May 26, 2022 Music Background: I'm 65 and have been playing since a teenager. Mostly at home these days.

Very nice guitar. Better than I expected. It was set up very good. Ready to play out of the box. It did need new strings, nothing new there. Looks and sounds very well made. It has a nice balanced response. It's strong in the mid-range and great for finger picking but also does well playing chords. It's a great multi-purpose instrument. You will not have to worry about it being shipped. It was packed to arrive in perfect condition. Sweetwater is great to do business with. Best customer service you could ask for. My guy Greg Lanning keeps me informed with anything I purchase and always ready to help. A nice personal touch added to the buying experience. If you're looking for an all-solid wood mahogany guitar Guild hit a home run with this one.

I LOVE it !!!!

By Maida L Ray from Maine on May 10, 2022

I am so delighted with my new guitar! The concert size is perfect for me and the warm tones are a pleasure to hear. I love the beautiful seamless mahogany construction and the attention to every detail by your company. I could not be happier with everything - right down to the design of the padded case with carrying straps! I LOVE IT!!

Happy with my new guitar!!

By Edwin Ramírez from Tempe on April 22, 2022

The Guild OM-120 is absolutely beautiful, a high-quality product for a really good price. I acquired it a week ago and I am surprised by how wonderful it sounds and how comfortable is to play with my new guitar. Even the Gig Bag is beautiful. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

More than happy!

By Ian Spaeth from Belleville, IL on February 24, 2022 Music Background: Almost one year into learning guitar.

I decided on this guitar because it had similar specs to the Martin I wanted, same body shap/size and same tone wood (solid mahogany) and im blown away by this Guild. It has a nice well rounded tone with the perfect amount of low end for my tastes. I'm using daddario nickel bronze strings and they make for a great pairing. The quality and tone of this guitar is that of a guitar that costs twice as much so if you want something great but reasonably priced, this is a solid choice.

It's going to need a great deal of time

By Taylor from Montana on December 1, 2021 Music Background: Pro

But Guilds are like that. Especially the mahogany guitars, it takes forever before they resonate correctly. But this guitar is a solid build, I have a few Guilds and I have always liked them. The big thing is, change the strings. Put some really decent string on this guitar, and it plays light years better. I went with Elixir light coated, and it helped a lot, since, without a lot of age, these things sound kinda like a tin can. Also, since it is mahogany, it needs to be humidified heavily before it will give up a good tone. Guilds seem to like 45% humidity, so this one is reposing in my guitar room drinking water. But overall, this is a good midrange guitar, Guild has always been consistent in build and playability. Enjoy!

Simply beautiful

By Robert Hill from IN on September 1, 2021 Music Background: Singer and Guitarist in the acoustic dou Wire and Wood

Just received this today. An Anniversary present from my beautiful wife. Love it! Plays great right out of the box. Very well made. Fit and finish are good. Tone is bright but full. I have a Martin, Taylor, Alvarez, Breedlove and a Washburn. But this is my first Guild and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Thanks to Tom Koch and the folks at Sweetwater for all their help.

OM-120

By Mike from Iowa on January 20, 2021

Just received my Guild OM-120 and I've got to say I'm pleasantly surprised. I've been playing a 20 year old Blueridge that I've just about worn out, so this is a great upgrade. Nice quality and detail on the guitar, and it sounds great right out of the box. Can't wait to hear how well it will sound once it gets a little bit of age on it. Very nice soft sided case, the finish on the mahogany is beautiful. Should give me years of enjoyment

Great instrument and sales engineer!

By Sweetwater Customer on December 18, 2020

Musical strains of angelic quality! My new Guild all-mahogany OM-120 makes even my playing sound good. When I reached out to Sweetwater Sales Engineer Deanna Hooper about upgrading from my beginner-level Yamaha, she asked me some questions about my style and preferences and immediately recommended two different Guild models in stock at Sweetwater plus a couple of other options, and while the choice was a tough one, I opted for the "Orchestra"-sized Guild since I was already on a dreadnought and wanted something a little different but that still had quality and volume of sound, was very playable, and had great appearance. The OM-120 delivers in all of those areas and more. After playing it for an hour last night, I literally dreamt of the gorgeous sound it puts out and the feel of it as I play it. I'm still basically a beginner and this guitar is facilitating my transitions between the frosh 15 chords and bringing out the full richness of the pieces I'm learning. So far, I flat-pick and strum but look forward to getting into finger-picking and I'm sure the Guild OM-120 will be perfect for all --the mahogany delivers such a mellow yet vibrant sound. Plus, it came ready to play with Sweetwater's guaranteed 55-point inspection and I always appreciate Deanna's assistance along with the other helpful sales engineers. And the guitar shipped for free and arrived quickly and without blemish via FedEx. A wonderful experience all around!

Love it!

I purchased this as a mid-level upgrade after learning on a cheap Yamaha. The difference is night and day! This guitar looks and plays beautifully.

Best customer service, shout out to Clint.
This guitar is a good as all the reviews I read during my research.
Awesome guitar, I had high expectations and it exceeded.
Highly recommended, the feature and craftmanship is way above the price of this guitar

Great guitar

By Robert Hakim from Eugene, Oregon on August 2, 2023

Stepping up as I progress- very happy to have a fully solid wood guitar at this pricepoint. No qualms with craftsmanship, every thing is ship shape! It plays well and sounds excellent! Love the mahogany!

Guild OM-120

By Sweetwater Customer on January 10, 2022

I've had the guitar a few weeks now. I prefer the darker mellow tone of all mahogany guitars and it definitely checks that box. I wasn't expecting perfection at this price point, but it is very clearly a factory mass produced guitar that was never picked up and played by a human. Out of the box it was unplayable and needed a full setup. The action at the 12th fret was super high and the action at the first fret was entirely unplayable. After a truss rod adjustment, sanding down the saddle, and filing string grooves at the nut, it now plays great and sounds great. A set of Martin Retro light strings warms it up even more. It will take a lot of playing to fully break in, but each time I pick it up it starts to open up a little and respond a little better to dynamics. Overall, I would recommend it if you want a mellow sound, but don't expect it to be ready to go out of the box.

Guild OM-120

By Kevin Heinold from MA on May 17, 2020

This guitar is a really nice comfortable size. The guitar body is larger than a parlor style, but not bulky at all. I was concerned to purchase a guitar online without playing it first, but the specs illustrated this guitar very accurately. Great C shape neck and the finish does not inhibit play-ability. It is a warm sounding guitar with a round low end, but it can also get punchy when digging in with a pick or fingers. Very happy with this guitar. The action was fine right out of the box, but when the guitar settles a bit more I will probably get a professional setup. Build quality seems solid and the soft case that comes with it seems adequate for the caliber guitar that it is.

Disappointing

By Sweetwater Customer on January 4, 2022 Music Background: Campfire and Beach Guitarist

After a few days of trying hard to convince myself to like it, I am returning my Guild OM-120. The strings do not merely buzz; they downright snarl. The guitar sounds more like a sitar. I suppose it would work nicely for some of those more esoteric Beatles tunes. I suspect that there is a high 2nd or 3rd fret. And where they do not snarl they just sound lifeless. The first string all up the fingerboard has a sort of "rubber-band-stretched-over-a-cigar-box" quality to it. Also--and some people like this--the neck is rather wide. I really noticed this in trying to play thumb chords (e.g., Fmaj7). There's JUST enough extra width over, say, my Taylor GA-4, to make the chord difficult.

Maybe I should not have played the Guild side-by-side with my Taylor as very few guitars feel and sound as nice.

I do not regret having ordered one of these as I have long been curious. But it proved to be disappointing. Meanwhile, there is nothing disappointing about Sweetwater. They are always a pleasure to deal with and always my first choice. (Except now I have already ordered another solid mahogany guitar from another company to replace the Guild. Hoping for the best....)

QC Issues

By Ty from Colorado on April 19, 2022 Music Background: Former gigging musician

I have been wanting to like this guitar, everything I see about them is so positive, but I had to send the first one back due to bracing issues, and upon receiving the 2nd one, the top appears to be warped near the bridge. Additionally the fretboard on the 2nd one is really dry and scratchy compared to the first. There's globs of glue on the sides of the frets, as well as pushing out from under the bridge. There's weird scuff marks. Issues you would not expect to see at this price point. Disappointed with the quality from Guild on this. Also disappointed with sweetwater for sending them out. They check 55 things and the bracing and tops are not one of those things? Arguably the two most important critical points on an acoustic guitar….
