Best Playing/Sounding Acoustic I have played
I was looking for a parlor/concert sized acoustic for my office and I wanted something with a rich, warm sound. I happened on the M-120 and the solid mahogany body appealed to me because I thought the mahogany would balance the tonality of the smaller body size. I have an early 1980's Guild dreadnought, made in Westerly, that I love. While the dreadnought is not surprisingly louder, the tonality of the M-120L absolutely stands toe to toe with it. Also, the action, the feel of the neck, and the comfort is superb! Sounds phenomenal on anything from John Denver to Clapton!
Great size with bigger sound that one would think
Was looking for a smaller guitar to take to group lessons and the size is perfect. Build quality is fantastic and it was super easy to install a pickup (went with SD Mag Mic). Guitar also came with a clip on pickup of sorts that you can connect to your audio interface to tune the guitar. The bag it comes with is really nice as well. Setup was a breeze as well. I wish the neck was not glossy like the rest of the guitar which is my only gripe.
Outstanding guitar
My Guild M-120 (left hand) is possibly the best purchase for the price paid for any guitar. All solid Mahogany sides, back and top, really comfortable size and the 1 3/4" nut width makes it a little easier to play chords. The sound is about as good as you can expect from a concert sized guitar and fingerstyle playing is where this guitar really shines. I would definitely consider Guild as one of my top choices when shopping for acoustic guitars. As usual, Spencer and the Sweetwater team always does an incredible job through the entire process of getting my guitar to me safely.
Couldn't be more impressed
I preordered this guitar a while back after searching for a new folk style acoustic for years, which as you know, is not the easiest thing to do when you're left handed. After trying out various brands and returning the guitars, I sort of lost hope... until I saw the Guild M-120. The specs are exactly what I was looking for. It is made out of solid Mahogany (no cheap laminated wood) and it sounds incredible. Do not let people talk you out of this guitar because it is made in China. The build quality of this guitar is incredible (The country has been making stringed instruments for thousands of years after all...)
Perfect couch guitar
Overall great guitar. Accomplished exactly what I was looking for. An all solid wood mahogany guitar that is comfortable for playing while relaxing and doesn't break the bank. I'm 6'1" with pretty meaty palms. Was worried this might be too small, but it's absolutely fantastic. Nice slim neck makes barring chords easy, while the spacing of the strings keeps fingerpicking the preferred option. One could argue the sound isn't as rich as other larger guitars, but it's all mahogany, so even a little thinner than average sound is still very mellow. This guitar embraces my inner Dylan.
Great little guitar
I bought this guitar to replace my taylor gs mini as my couch guitar. The taylor is nice for strumming open chords but this Guild sounds much better overall- especially fingerpicking and blues style jams.
Also, very impressed with the build quality- solid wood all around and the setup out of the box is perfect even for those high notes up the fingerboard.
If you're looking for a small comfortable guitar and like the all mahogany sound, I recommend it!
Easy Playing, Sounds Great
I'm a fan of the (original) Westerly Guilds so this was an obvious choice when I wanted a smaller guitar than my 1987 Guild D-40 and my Martin Concert. (I might have gone for the M-20 had it been available in lefty.) The body size of the Guild M-120 is perfect for me, and I love the Guild neck. That said, however, there is a slight trade-off in sound for the smaller size. I've found I prefer finger-picking this guitar over strumming with a plectrum, which can sound a little tinny in the upper register. The construction seems solid and the body has lovely grain and finish. The pickguard seems a bit cheap and second-thought-ish, though. I will rave about the free gig bag -- top quality for a gig bag!
Defective Build
I bought one of these in 2020. I soon noticed the top wood was warping upwards, something none of my acoustics have ever done. I filed a claim with guild and they sent me a new guitar… all good right? Nope, the problem is now occurring again. It's a shame because I really enjoy the sound and playability of this guitar, but there seems to be a design flaw
