Problem Solved
When plugging my Fishman Loudbox amp into the Church PA system I got a very loud hum and buzz. I thought it was a ground loop problem but I didn't want to cut the ground on my XLR cable without knowing for sure that it would solve the problem. So for the price I thought this little gadget would be worth a try. 2 seconds to plug it in and problem solved. My signal is now clean and super quiet. Can be plugged in anywhere between the amp and the PA system (Back of amp; snake or at the mixer). I absolutely would recommend this product with no reservation.
This is not wired properly
This is a simple item that is supposed to do one thing, break the connection on pin 1 on an XLR run to lift the ground. Reviews on another site pointed out that on both ends, pin 1 is grounded to the shell, so pin 1 is connected, and the ground is not lifted.
I verified that mine has this miswiring, and modified it by clipping the connection to ground on one end. It works now.
I also have a Whirlwind Imp Lifter, which seems more robust and is wired properly. I'd recommend the Whirlwind instead.
Just Junk
I purchased 8 of these to be used with a Pearl Mimic. After only a few uses the internal plastic pin holder failed. I looked at all 8 and everyone is cracked inside. This is the second piece of Hosa equipment I have been unhappy with. Never again. They just make junk.
