Roland GKC-5 13 Pin cable

By Philip B.
Music Background: Progressive guitarist

I've long been a fan of Roland products & there accessories are more than up to the task. I plan to use Roland products for many years to come.

excellent cable

By Chris H. from Stamford, CT
Music Background: guitar player

The Roland 13 pin cable is excellent quality - I've tried some cheaper alternatives and they tend to be noisy, i.e., they make noise when you move them. To improve the longevity of these cables, take the advice on this thread and attache a small carbine with two wire ties to the cable about 20 inches from the end you plug into the guitar. Attached a key-ring to your guitar strap. After plugging the cable into the guitar, attach the carbiner to the key-ring to relieve stress on the cable / plug.

Eight year cable !

By Sweetwater Customer

I've had the same Roland cable for EIGHT years!..How did I do it?…I placed a carabiner clip , with two wire ties ( cheap key ring)about 18" from the cable end going to my midi pickup, & put a 1 1/2" key ring on my strap close to the end where it gets hooked to guitar , then I just " hook" the two together. This keeps cable from stress from accidentally stepping on cord or pulling on it … I keep the other end permanently strapped to my board…. Works for me

Works real well

By Peter B. from ESTERO, FL

This Roland 15 foot, 13 pin cable works well with my Roland GR-55 and Godin ACS-SA Slim. It also has a clip which locks the cable in place securely. It is a unique, quality item.

Sometimes you get what you pay for

By Jim from PA
Music Background: retired musician

The 13 pin cable I bought for my Roland guitar synth was pretty expensive, but I have a flimsy noisy 13 pin cable that I bought. & the $ cable at Sweetwater shows once again that you get what you pay for.

Bad quality CABLE!!

By Xylor from Sacramento
Music Background: 34 years experience for gigging and recording related hardrock/metal/jazz/country

My GKC-5 13 pin cable comes with my GR-55. In the last few 4 to 5 years, I've barely playing my GR-55; a few months ago and my cable's already broken. I hadn't done anything and my cable just started getting weird and then they suddenly got loose on both ends [plug-heads (urrggg!!!)]. I'm really disappointed with Roland's GKC-5 cable's quality. I really wish there are more companies that can sell GKC 13 pin cables. So…Roland is selling this cable for these high price?? What a piece junk cable. I don't recommend buying anything coming from Roland's 13 pin cable. If you buy this cable, you will need to buy another one 2 to 4 years (even though you hadn't plugged it....You've been WARNED).

Seems to be over priced but Roland does make quality sound equipment so I chose the best cable.

Roland GKC-5

By Richard . from Dundalk MD
Music Background: Semi professional

So now that I"ve had the pleasure of replacing my Roland cable ( at $80.00 !) I am quite leery of using my Boss GP-10 in a live setting given the fragility of the design. The whole reason that I purchased the GP-10 was to use with my band as it models many guitars very well. Roland really needs to to design a much sturdier cable . It"s a shame because the capabilities of midi guitar are nearly endless. So for now I"m only using this in my home studio. And quite gingerly at that. I"m afraid that if I breathe on this cable the wrong way it will crap out on me

Piece of junk

By Sweetwater Customer from Nj
Music Background: Pro

Rolad is the only one who makes this inferior quality cable, so if you have a Roland synth, you're stuck. They offer a miserable 3 month guarantee. Any expensive cable has lifetime coverage. I've had at least 12 of them.
Sweetwater and their 2 year warranty saves the day!
I've had it out with Roland's legal department , and they admit nothing. Shame on this usually excellent company.

Roland GK 13-Pin Cable

By Lucien S. from ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL
Music Background: Guitarist/Keyboardist

I'm a big Roland fan and I have loads of Roland equipment but I have to draw the line with this poorly designed, extremely expensive cable. The main flaw is that Roland has made the outer circular connector 2-piece instead of 1. The 2-piece design causes constant cracking and popping and poor connectivity. I couldn't use my GR-55 live because of this. I have several of the 15 and 30 foot Roland cables as backups and I could never rely on them live. I've sourced another company for a 13-pin cable with a 1-piece outer connector and it has superior performance and is one-third the price. Until I bought this new cable, my GR-55 had been reduced to playing backing tracks. Now I can actually use it.

Roland cable

By David T. from South Jersey

As advertised I feel the price for this cord is a little on the high side and is the weakest link in the chain as far as the Roland GK55 is concerned would like to see a better quality cord for the money

It's truly putting the fun back in music for me

By Donald T. from Natick, MA
Music Background: Professional, 40 yrs exp, Function bands

I've completely left the "Center" as a paying customer where I used to purchase my guitar stuff. I felt limited by their lack of imagination, shrinking inventory from losing too many high-quality lines, car-salesman approach and ever-increasing prices. Now I just go there to try out a couple of things that I know I'll be buying at Sweetwater. To only that extent the place has a purpose.

Sweetwater gets it. The site is amazingly easy to navigate, the inventory just seems endless. Above everything, its customer focus and service is exceptional. It's a very enjoyable customer experience for me.

roland GKC-5-15' cable

By Ricky W. from Las Vegas
Music Background: variety

These cables do the job but they wear out or malfunction much to quickly. they usually last about one or two years. For the price they should last much longer. If I had an option to buy a different brand I would be interested to check it out.

Expensive, but worth every penny

By John M. from Greenville South Carolina, USA, Earth
Music Background: Professional musician

As someone who plays out weekly - 2-3 times a week and then has rehearsals, practice and studio time on top of that, I need reliable equipment. Yes, I'm a broke musician, and go looking for deals, like the above mentioned cables, however, I know when to give up and shell out the cash for the good stuff.

The authentic Roland cable is the good stuff.
No glitches or noise when you move the cable.
It's flexible unlike the cheapies that won't even lay flat on the floor.
The locks actually lock.
Reliability is just awesome, hundreds of gigs without problems - lucky to get 50 out of a cheap one if you move around much.

Yes, they must be gold plated, because they are sure priced like it. Worth every penny.

Great cable!

By David D. from Baton Rouge
Music Background: Studio musician

These 13-pin cables are expensive, but Sweetwater has a great cable at a great price. Not much to tell, it's just a cable, but it's quality and it works great. I'm glad Sweetwater carries them.

An amazing cable!

By Jon C. from Illinois
Music Background: Janitorial

30 feet of sheer midi guitar bliss. From the elegant molded plastic connectors, to the stark, yet stylish black flexible rubber sheath, this cable has exceeded my expectations. My co-workers, as well as my girlfriend and family have all noticed the effect this cable has had, and it is not subtle. "Did you lose weight?" "Are you working out again?" "You must have just taken a vacation." I hear questions like this on a frequent basis...and when I do, I just wink at them and think to myself "thank you Roland."

August 16, 2016

Gotta be kidding

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ

Roland is the only game in town for this cable no one else makes it or will consider making it. It is non military grade, and under normal, gig use, fails repeatedly. There are no other options available. Thank goodness Sweetwater had worked with me to help as much as they can. Roland should be ashamed for building a cable like this. Zero stars. I hope they see this.

Beware non-Roland GK cables!

By Keith from The sunny south
Music Background: music and production professional

I am a longtime GK user, starting with Guitar synths back with the original GK-1/GR-50 back in 1987. for the past six years I have used a GI-20/GK-3 every week in a live performance situation.

When it comes to replacement GK cables, don't make the mistake I made. A while back I saw this Roland branded cable at twice the price of a generic cable elsewhere and said to myself "how can it be twice as good?" (I am very skeptical of snake-oil anything, including in particular "magic" cables :-)

Well, guess what? The generic brand GK cables apparently have a fatal and surprising flaw the manufacturers don't bother to mention. Yes, it connected and worked o.k. (AFTER I ground off the extra plastic that prevented it from plugging into the GK-3 - which conveniently made it impossible to return BEFORE I could try it out...hmmm :-/ )
The fatal flaw? Any bumps of the cable, like stepping on it, moving it while playing, etc. created false trigger notes! I could (literally) flop the cable and trigger dozens of false notes. Not a subtle effect, rather it made the generic cable absolutely unusable in any situation.

Apparently, the cheaper cable has a slight piezo-electric effect. Upon impact, the tiny voltages generated inside the cable is enough to trigger false notes on the GI-20. Moral is simple. In THIS case the "magic" Roland cable is worth every penny extra.

marginal quality

By Mike R. from Dalton, GA
Music Background: Hobbist

My GKC-5 begin going south about 45 days after purchase. The spring loaded retainer that holds it firmly in place on one end is very weak. I got tired of 'nursing' it so Sweetwater is sending a replacement, but to call this cable high quality is being a bit generous; at least in my experience. For the cost of this cable is should be bullet proof.

Exactly what I needed

By John T. from Calera, AL
Music Background: Over 40 yrs playing guitar

The GKC-5 is a high quality cable at a great price from Sweetwater. The fast shipping ensured I had the cable quickly. The GKC-5 is a necessity to connect my Godin synth access guitars to my Roland GR-20 and Roland GR-55. As usual the customer service and competitive pricing at Sweetwater puts them head and shoulders above any others in the business.

Roland GKC-5 13 pin cable

By Hal H. from McHenry, IL
Music Background: Pro Musician

I use a GR-20 guitar synth on stage. When I needed to replace my original Roland cable I bought a cheaper generic version on e-bay. When I received it, I could see right away the wire gauge was much thinner, and cable didn't last near as long as the original. Save yourself frustration and buy the official Roland cable.

If you have a GK equiped guitar do yourself a favor and skip the grief of buying a non-Roland cable. I thought my pup or GR-33 were broken until I got this factory cable. It's been the import cable all along..and now everything is coming up saxes, or pianos or digereedo's as the case may be LOL...you gets what you pays for. This cable is A+,HD quality and has locks on both ends (nice touch).
