this 12 string is awesome !!

By Christopher OBrien from BOHEMIA, NY on March 4, 2024

I ordered this 12 string specifically for use in our worship band, It has far exceeded my expectations. It arrived ready to play and it was the hit of the day among our other guitarists. Joe went above and beyond to insure I received it on time. Sweetwater is now my go-to for ALL my live performance needs !!

Good Job Takamine

By Colt Baird from Keystone Heights, FL on January 24, 2022 Music Background: Composer

This is everything a 12 should be. It stays in tune really well and sounds amazing. It projects, shimmers, and the playability is on par with 2000$ price tag guitars.

Very Nice guitar

By James Pebworth from Lawton, OK on January 10, 2022

I have to say that this is a very nice guitar. The finish on it, clear coat, is the first one I've experienced that has a smooth glass like finish. Usually, the neck has some friction to it. This one, your hand just glides across the neck. The body has a nice feel to it. A good tone thus far. The shipping on it, was perfect. I bought a guitar elsewhere that the packing was like a milk carton. The packaging here was filled with a foam like substance that it kept it from moving. It arrived without any damage at all. Home run on this won.

Takamine GJ72CE 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar-Brown Sunburst

One of the best twelve strings I have ever played. Compared with Taylor and Martin, just as great at a fraction of the cost! Cannot say enough about this guitar. Takamine really got this one right.

I see why so many touring pros play Takamine

By Eric Kiefer from Maryland on October 21, 2021 Music Background: Work in progress

Straight out of the case, it's a stunning guitar to look at. The fit and finish is exceptional, and I spent quite a while looking for flaws, and didn't find any.
The playability is great, even for a 12 string. The fretboard has a clean look without all the fret markers, and the side dots are more than enough landmarks to know where you're at. No dead spots on the neck, the frets were dressed nicely with no sprouting.
And then there's that tone. 12 strings have a certain magic to them, and this one sounds on par with guitars costing several times more money.( Guild, Martin, Taylor). Acoustically this thing is a canon! It fills up a room with sound. Plugged in, the preamp gives nice eq and notch abilities, and the on board tuner is a godsend on a 12. If I have one nitpicky complaint, it's that the tuner being high on th upper bout makes it a little awkward to see while standing and playing/tuning. No such issues sitting down, for me at least.

12 string crazy

Absolutely one of the best 12 string guitars right out of the box!!! This beauty plays more like the ones for over $1,000.00!! This is my 8th 12 string, and will be one of my favorites for sure. Great low action and a terrific sound!! Takamine hit one out of the park on this one!!

Awesome 12 string

By Ron C. from PA on August 5, 2020 Music Background: Play Gospel, Country,Bluegrass . Playing 48 years

This is an awesome guitar. It is set up perfect. The action is low which makes it a joy to play. Very good sound and ease to play. Very good looking. I am very pleased with this 12 string. I have a Taylor 12 string and would put this up against it.

Kimiko

By David Bailey from Marysville, Michigan on October 17, 2018

Just a beautiful guitar. The voice of this guitar just blows me away. Warm bass with shimmering highs. For the money it's awesome. I've played other twelve string guitars that cost twice what this one did and they didn't sound near as good as this one. I named her Kimiko. The only female Japanese name I could think of.

Amazing

Amazing 12 string

By Ricardo on April 22, 2017

Beautiful guitar ! Sounds amazing and the electronics are really good. I am amazed of the loud tone from this jumbo sized 12 string guitar! I had my string unison because that's the way I like it and it sounded amazing!

Extra mile

I bought my 12 string Takamine a year ago from Sweetwater and was blown away when i took it out of the box. Perfect setup and it was actually in tune! I’ll only buy guitars from Sweetwater from now on

Worth more than what I paid

By Rafael Rodas from Houston, TX on October 14, 2016

I bought this guitar because of the price, and it looked great on the photos, but when I took it out of the box, it did impress me. The finish is beautiful, and it sounds like a way more expensive instrument. The only con. is that does not come with a case or even a gig bag, however Takamine had or has a special going on, where they give you a gig bag when one registers it, but don't hold your breath waiting for it.

Big sounds for a small price

By Sweetwater Customer on September 6, 2016

This 12 string is made out of maple & a ply-maple top, and in a Jumbo-size, it makes for an extremely loud & full sounding acoustic. If you're looking to fill out a song, this guitar will easily take the part. It sounds great acoustically. The electronics, apart from the very handy built-in tuner, are sub-par. At this price, I wouldn't expect much from the electronics package though. The action is set low and with near-perfect intonation, so playability-wise, it's near perfect. I have the "natural" version and don't really care for the laminate "flame maple" on the side... I feel it makes it kind of cheesy, and at this price it's most definitely fake, but other than that, I'm really happy with it.

Excellent

By Randy from Norman, Oklahoma on August 13, 2016

Right out of the box it was tuned and perfectly set up. I love the sound and its easy to play for a 12 string. On top of that Sweetwater was awesome to work with.

Dissappointment

By DavidA from Rialto, CA on July 18, 2019 Music Background: Professional

I bought a Martin X Series 12 string but had to try this one out before I could rest. No one had this so I had it ordered in with the agreement I could swap it out with the Martin if I really liked it. When it came in the week after my Martin Purchase, I went in at tried it out. Very beautiful and well constructed Guitar but the neck didn't feel as good for me than my Martin and the sound was a lot less warm/full like the Martin. I am sure amplified it sounds wonderful. I would compare the playing and sound experience to that of the DanGelico 12 string selling for $499. Like no difference.

I like this guitar but it should be priced closer to $500

Not bad, but not great

By Earl R from VA on December 2, 2015 Music Background: 30+ years playing guitar, bass, keys

Initial review after one evening with the new guitar. I bought this sight unseen on the black Friday deal for $350. At that price, it's a nice guitar; at the regular selling price ($600) I would probably have returned it. Not that it's horrible, but for just a little more you can have the excellent Martin, or for about $150 more the Taylor. Both are much nicer guitars IMO. Mine came out of the box with the action set too high, and that alone would have warranted a return had I not learned that they use shims under the bridge saddle. After removing 2 of the 3 shims the action was down to a reasonable height, and I may try going even lower later. The high action, combined with a thicker neck than I like (interesting that the spec list the neck shape as "slim"), and the so-so tuners, make this a nice $350 guitar, but an overpriced $600 IMO.
