"Missed it by that much"
This is ALMOST perfect. I'm using a tablet holder that threads onto the top of a mic stand. This multi-purpose clamp was a way to side-mount my mic boom underneath the tablet. It does that BUT... The aluminum part that wraps around the straight mic stand is round, not v-shaped. So my mic boom that is attached to this clamp wobbles. I have other devices that clamp onto mic stands, and they are v-shaped rather than rounded. That makes for a much better, less wobbly, attachment. I think, since this clamp is aluminum, that I can take a file and with some work, make enough of a "V" shape where that rounded part is, so that the wobbliness is minimal or non-existent. The pic I've included shows where the rounded problematic part is, with the barely visible red line.
Missed it by that much.
So the moving portion will compress the mic stand that you would normally use with this into a rounded part. This results in some movement, especially if you use this with a mic boom. If they had (or would?) machine this to be "V"-shaped, that would eliminate that movement. What a huge failure! I'm going to try using a file to create somewhat of a "V" shape to overcome this deficiency.
Threads strip out easily
The center threads for tightening to a stand stripped out in less than a year of use. Perhaps 40 gigs at the most. It is "only" $ so I guess you can treat it as disposable, but really should last longer. Adding some rubber material to the inside of the clamp that hugs the mic-stand may help. Be sure to buy two so you have a spare in your bag when the first one strips out.
