I'm using this for a more "permanent" placement for my AKG c414 vocal mic. The base is much smaller than a three leg boom mic and has a better footprint for my smaller area. The neat pistol grip style height adjustment is really handy and so far a great feature, this piece is plastic though, so if you're gigging or moving this stand a bunch, I might be concerned with the longevity of the adjuster.

Thick stand with heavy base. Used it outdoors in wind gusts of 20mph with 7 lbs of top heavy personal monitor on the stand, and they didn't even wobble! Wife loves the easy handgrip to raise or lower the stand with one hand.

Like many, I've accumulated various mic stands through the years. Most of the time they are purchased when needed without much thought put into all of it. The time came where some stand replacements were needed. My singer was in need of a new mic stand and prefers a weighted base with no boom arm. He generally hand holds the mic but likes to have something sturdy when he's putting the mic to stand. I ordered this (I use my personal gear for sound support on the side) and was thoroughly impressed with the build quality. The stand is solid, has nice weight to it, and it holds the locked portion of the moving parts nicely. I haven't used it long enough to tell how long things will hold up. The option of the grip style adjustment is very nice.

My only negative is that it did not come with a mic stand clip. It wouldn't hurt to come with at least something. Pictures clearly show no mic stand clip. So this isn't something that misled me. Throw in a clip and it's 5 stars from me. Highly recommended regardless.

I run a weekly Stand-Up showcase with 4 to 6 performers of varying heights all using the same mic stand throughout the night. I'd always had the classic stand with the adjustment nut in the middle that you have to loosen/tighten to move the stand up and down and sometimes it would make the stand start to unscrew from the base and it was just distracting watching people fight it while they are trying to set up a joke.

I recently started a second show and needed a new mic stand, so I ordered this and the one hand squeeze clutch is perfect. I was a little worried with it being different and not something people are used to that it would take them a second on stage to figure it out, but so far, no issues, everyone used it like it was second nature. I've had several performers mention how much faster and easier it was to adjust. I'll be buying a second one soon.

I have used this with my mic for a couple weeks now, works well very sturdy even with my attachments.

I like the heavy base, as it is very sturdy. I also like the slide function for lowering and raising the mic. Great purchase!

I've used standard mic stands for years and always wanted to try these. Fast to adjust height and cool looking!

This item was purchased for the supposed ease of height adjustment during student and faculty recording sessions. From the moment received, it was a real disappointment. There are only one or two positions where it will stay at the height you set for it. If you set the height differently, it will slide/fall down. It is impossible to use a large diaphragm condenser with this because that's too much weight for this "deluxe" stand to hold at the intended height. Other mics work OK at one or two positions, but you have to be careful that you do not need to adjust cables or the position of the boom arm (purchased separately and of only slightly better quality). If you do, it will likely shift in height. Sweetwater's reps are great, but I would stay away from this product.
