Boss GEB-7 7-band Bass EQ Pedal Reviews

7-Band Bass Equalizer with Level Control Knob

The BOSS GEB-7 is a 7-band equalizer created specifically for the frequency range of the electric bass. The EQ bands can be boosted or cut up to 15dB, while a gain control also offers a +/-15dB range. Since the GEB-7's frequency range extends down to 50Hz, it's also great for adding depth and bottom end to acoustic guitars.

Not quite an octave pedal but very articulate boost for the low end

By Stephen Banks from Wichita, KS on April 15, 2024

I originally tried an octave pedal thinking this would be the low end boost I was seeking to broaden the sound spectrum for looping different elements of a piece of music. However, I found that an octave pedal added a grittier, slightly dirty tone to the sound of my bass that I did not want. Matt Brooks, my sales Engineer, did some research and found that this was going to be an issue with most any octave pedal. I began looking at EQ pedals and I chose the Boss GEB-7 and I am happy with the result. It adds the extra low end I was looking for while maintaining the clarity and articulation I am looking for. Thank you Matt for your help. You are awesome to work with.

Boss GEB-7 EQ pedal

By Sweetwater Customer on February 27, 2024

I was looking for an EQ to incorporate with my banjo, there were certain frequencies that I thought were too harsh for my hearing when I tried to push the volume up in our group. So I got a hold of Josh, my go to person at Sweetwater. He sent me some information on some EQ s for me to look at. So I ended up purchasing the Boss GEB EQ pedal. After hooking it up the things I noticed were, my signal to the board was stronger, I could dial in the sound I was looking for and I like the pedal part that I can use to either push the volume up for lead parts or I can use it to cut the level.

Thanks Josh and Sweetwater for your professional advice and quality products!

YOU HAVE NOT HEAR YOUR BASS UNTIL YOU HAVE USED THIS PEDAL!!!

By Cristian from San Antonio on September 6, 2022 Music Background: Working on becoming a professional composer / mixer.

This is how it went down:
I had the MXR BASS DI + and it was doing real good for tone UNTIL I got the KRK 8.4 Sub...
By then I had already bought this unit, mostly because of the BOSS Guitar EQ had become an essential part of my rig, but was not using it yet.
When I added the Sub and began testing how the mix sounded with and without the Sub, I realized I needed a little more "something" (a very descriptive and specific tone word we all use...), and remembered I just bought this pedal.
Got it out of the box and plugged it in and it was love at first sound; it will NEVER leave my bass signal chain.

BTW: I have all MXR in this signal chain, including the pedals power source, Fuzz, Envelope, Compressor, Octaver and DI+; and this pedal plays very nicely with all that impedance without any buffer in between.

The first six sliders are TRULY WHERE YOUR BASS SOUND LIVES, but you'll never really notice it IN THE MIX (live you will) without the Sub, so I guess this is a shameless plug of all subwoofers: you need to get one for your studio monitors if you use your bass more structurally and melodically in your music.

Why didn’t I buy one sooner?

For so many years I was a pretty anti-pedal "purist." I play in a working cover band with 3 basses all in different tunings. My main workhorse is a Squier Jazz V Active with EMG actives and preamp removed. This pedal was able to fill in that gap where my other 2 active, preamped basses had a little more output. The signal is a touch lower without the on board preamp, but having the level control a 1-2 dots above the middle gets it where it needs to be. The EQ really cleaned up the sound on my Jazz V and gives a super noticeable clarity and tone shape that I have been seeking for years. I'm a believer now. Up next are a BX and a Compressor pedal.

Great EQ Pedal!!

By Justin Stokes from Winston Salem NC on August 29, 2021

Good EQ pedal. Obviously the bass and low, high mids sliders have the biggest impact as far as what you can hear. A little goes a long way. The level works great as a boost or slight distortion.

Great bass guitar EQ

By Dave Hart from Las Vegas, NV on May 20, 2021 Music Background: Professional guitarist, bassist, keyboard and Harmonica player. My Fender P-bass is really bright, lacks bottom, and has no tone knob (Mark Hoppus model) This pedal is just what I needed, I rolled off some high end without making it sound muddy and added some low end booty, it's like having a whole new bass. Plus you can add a boost with the level slider. Overall it sounds fat and warm, also, if I need to add highs for J-bass slapping tone, it's great from that too. I recommend the BOSS GEB-7 for your pedalboard.

Worth it

Boss GEB-7 7 Band Bass EQ Pedal

By Doc from Bristol, VA on May 2, 2019 Music Background: Professional

Honestly, this is the best pedal on my pedal board. I am very surprised by the extra boost I get from this pedal. I can get many tones that I am unable to get without it. I love the extra control the Boss EQ gives me.

HUGH difference!

By Jeff Cox from The middle of South Carolina on November 15, 2018 Music Background: Semi-pro (Rocking their asses off for over 45 years!)

This pedal makes all the difference! I had one of the Hohner B2A basses in the late 1980's (and have kicked myself so many times for selling it). That bass played through an Ampeg SVT was intoxicating. It was thick, powerful, rich and very articulate. Longing to recreate that sound, I finally order one of the Steinberger Spirit XT-2 basses. I'll admit that I was slightly disappointed with the XT-2's sound at first, but that soon changed. Part of the problem I was having with the sound of this bass was the electronics; they're passive, not active electronics, which was the key to the B2A sound. So, being an engineer, that sound "problem" was easy to solve; I simply bought a Boss GEB-7 seven band bass equalizer. Problem solved! Note to ALL bass players: Regardless of your bass, a Boss GEB-7 should be a tool in your sound toolbox. I can't say enough good things about Boss products and Sweetwater, and my gear consultant at Sweetwater, Ben Rys for taking such great care of me!

Not a One Trick Pony

By Bill G. from Atlanta, GA on October 25, 2015 Music Background: Long time keyboardist and bassist

I patched this into my keyboard pedalboard after the direct box. I use it to roll off low end so that the bottom end of the keyboard stage sound does not fight with the bass or drums. This make the keyboard poke through the stage mix without cranking the volume. If I'm playing by myself and want to sound huge (e.g., Jump), I bypass the eq and mission accomplished. When the volume DOES need a boost, I use the level control to control my stage volume without affecting FOH levels. This may be great for a bass, but it is so handy for my keyboard that I'm not even tempted to try it on my bass.

Fantastic

By Sweetwater Customer on June 5, 2015

Makes a big difference in the sound in a good way. Brings presence and low end to your bass sound. I keep mine on at all times. I like this eq pedal compared to others because it has an overall volume slider.

Works Well

By Caster Blaster from northern Nevada on October 3, 2014 Music Background: strings, brass, keyboard, drums, acoustic guitar, etc.

I looked at Bass controls. This was one of my choices. Ryan Clapper my tech felt this would do what I want. The pedal really has a strong effect on the electric bass sound. I use it with a wireless system. Quiet operation and makes a very significant difference for sound. Thank you

Boss GEB-7 eq pedal

By Talmadge Dozier on May 2, 2020

I give it a 5 makes my amp more useful and loader if needed.

A must have

By Sweetwater Customer on June 7, 2019

If you're a gigging musician, this is a must have. I've got my home rig (pedalboard and amp) set up just how I want it but when playing at church, my pedalboard is fed through a DI box and to the sound board. That difference has been driving me crazy for months. I'll have my tone dialed in when I'm practicing at home, but come rehearsal time my bass sounds totally different (too much mids for my taste) and I spend the whole time tweaking my pedals and messing up what I had spent so much time at home doing already.

This pedal lets me bring down the mids a little, and my tone is back to how I want it without having to mess with my other pedals or having to annoy the sound guy to tweak my EQ when he has a hundred other things to worry about. I just wish the lowest and highest frequency sliders were shelves and not bells. Overall, a solid and extremely useful pedal.

Clean-up Tool

By Tony from Los Angeles on April 8, 2019 Music Background: Jazz Rock to anything-

They missed the 3K filter which is useful for bass. The GE-7 does better at adding clank to your sound.
This is a better tool for sucking out the mids and adding the power on the low end. For what I play it does
work out. Well made and hey its Boss, so it should be around for a long time. My GE-7 is 30 years old and works like the day I goy it. Give a 4.5, cuz of the the filters are not thought out for general players.
I will put the GB-7 and GE together so I will have clank and Fat Bass when I need it.

Great pedal from a great company!

By Daniel from Idaho on December 28, 2019 Music Background: Professional guitarist, fulltime producer for Introspection

I think this pedal is really good and it's so versatile, I mean obviously it would be. You can completely sculpt your tone to whatever extent you deem worthy. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the knobs are soooooo touchy and if they get bumped you will hear a pretty big difference.

Oh, there’s that sound

By Sweetwater Customer on December 6, 2019

I’ve only been able to play with my small at home rig, but I’ve liked everything about this pedal thus far. As I’ve played around with it, I stumbled across several bass tones from favorite songs. Next stop will be the rehearsal space with full band and gear, but as my Boss pedals are my favorites, I assume the GEB7 will end up with five stars.

not for active basses
