Guild D-40 Standard Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar - Natural Reviews
Players drawn to the sound and feel of iconic vintage American guitars will find everything they want in the Guild D-40 Standard Dreadnought. Preserving the fundamentals of an American-made workhorse is no small undertaking, which is why the D-40 Standard boasts exceptional solid tonewood materials carefully assembled in the United States. Premium cuts of spruce, mahogany, and rosewood produce a dynamic, all-purpose range with low-end warmth upheld by the signature shape of the D-40’s shoulders. The D-40 Standard’s “C”-shaped mahogany neck delivers smooth, assertive playability and supports effortless roaming of the rosewood fingerboard. Moreover, the D-40’s popularity with a diverse spread of acoustic players at Sweetwater demonstrates once again why the dreadnought is a perfect fit for singer/songwriters, band settings, studio recording, and more. Top-notch hardware seals the deal, including a bone nut and a vintage nitro gloss finish that lets tonewoods breathe and honors the Guild legacy with each strum. The D-40 Standard Dreadnought acoustic guitar embodies vintage fidelity and traditional tone every step of the way — discover what the buzz is about!

excellent addition to the USA Guild lineup
The new D40 Standard is a pro level instrument in all respects. The workmanship is excellent, the new vintage gloss finish looks and feels great, and the playability is fantastic.
The guitar was nearly perfectly setup upon arrival. I lowered two nut slots slightly and set the neck relief to my preference. I'm primarily a fingerpicker so I like a low action throughout the neck. Other than that, it was perfect. I love the 1-11/16 nut width combined with the 12" fretboard radius. The neck feels just right for me.
The main aspect of the guitar that grabbed me was the tone. The Adirondack bracing under the Sitka top provides a rich warm, clear sound, balanced across the strings. It can be loud, or very subtle when picked lightly. Always clear and articulate.
I highly recommend this instrument regardless of your musical style and your playing level. Its reserved look and classic styling work great together.
And, as always, the service from Sweetwater was excellent. I ordered it one day and received it the next day in Michigan.
