Very Impressed
The entire process with Sweetwater was impressive. Starting out by picking "your" guitar with hi-def pictures was really cool. Hats off to Sweetwater. The guitar showed up in perfect condition. The action was low and the sound of a Takamine speaks for its self. I have not played it through an amp (I don't have one yet). But overall, I give the guitar and Sweetwater a rating of 10.
Nice Entry Level Tak
For the first few months I was worried that I bought a lemon because this guitar was buzzing like crazy. The buzzing went away and I have not any issues since. This guitar sounds good plugged or unplugged. It is a nice entry level guitar.
Great Beginner Acoustic
I used to play guitar quite a few years ago, ended up quiting cause life got in the way. Now retired, I wanted a good sounding Guitar that would be a little easier to play than the old Epi, I had. Spent a bunch of time researching and even more time talking with AJ who was to become my sales engineer. AJ was able to narrow my search and based on his recommendation I bought this guitar this past February. I had to live with this for awhile before writing this as I'm no means a professional. I have found this guitar to be perfect for me as an advanced beginner. The tonal quaility, fit and finish are perfect. I have found that this guitar is the perfect weight and size for me. (I'm 6"0"). I love that I can pick tjhis up and not have to worry about it always being out of tume like my old guitar. Very easy play thanks to Sweetwaters excellent Setup Techs. electronics are clean and the small EQ is and built-in tuner are nice touches that work well. LOve Sweetwater and was very lucky to get AJ as my Sales Engineer. Thanks to all of you at Sweetwater.
Great value!
Love everything about this guitar. I use it primarily for playing at a church. It sounds great either plugged in or completely acoustic. I would definitely recommend this guitar for the value and quality.
Pertty good w/ set up
My wife got this for me for Christmas. After a set up that included some fret leveling it is a great player. Having an onboard tuner is fantastic. The electronics are really hot, so I pad through a DI when going into an amp so I can turn the volume past 1.
Takamine GD 30 CE Nat Review
Guitar Tone is perfect. But the Preamp system Pickup set near the Neck heel is not comfortable to play such Percussive Fingerstyle Songs. Sometime when slap the body near Preamp. It can be toch the volume. And the finishing is Natural. Key pegs and finishing upgrade as 51 CE may look better appearence. May be the manufacturer intentionally left the finishing and Key pegs color. The preamp Location may be TAKAMINE Trademark as well. If they did that i have nothing to say.
Really nice beginner's guitar
For the price, this is an excellent choice for anyone just starting out. As a professional player, I purchased this guitar to bang around on, letting live on the sofa in my living room whenever I felt like playing without worrying about it. However, since this is such a WELL-MADE guitar with excellent playability (especially for those of us with smaller hands), I find it one of my "go to" guitars when in a pinch. The only reason I can't give this 5 stars is that the sound quality seems "dampened". Even with all the great woods this guitar is constructed with, along with high quality strings, I can't get it to open up. The electronics helps adjust a better sound, but not by much in my opinion. I'd say it's a solid 4 stars for anyone wanting a dependable, flexible first guitar.
Nice guitar but poor Takamine quality control.
Four guitars later (same Takamine GD30CE) I've got one close to perfect.
Great electronics - was surprised how good it sound plugged in!
Unplugged even better sound.
Seems like many corners cut on that model but still good sounding guitar with nice action
from the box.
Static when Plugged in
First - the good. The action is great and the guitar sounds great acoustically as well. I bought this as an upgrade from my entry level guitar that I have been playing for years. I also play open mics once a week, so I wanted a good acoustic electric guitar, but didn't want to pay a hefty price tag. And I know Springsteen plays Takamines, so how could I go wrong?
Unfortunately, I had problems with this guitar when I played open mics. There was clicking coming through the amp. So I changed the battery. The next week there was static coming through, which is very distracting if you are trying to play in front of people. The third week I tried rubbing a dryer sheet on it to get rid of the static. It helped a bit but the static sound came and went during my 3-song set. I talked to tech support at Sweetwater and they said the dryer sheet trick can be a good temporary fix but its not a real solution. I ended up sending it back and exchanging it for a Yamaha FGX800. Hopefully that works out better.
The research I did on this guitar said that even though Takamine is a Japanese brand, this guitar is made in China. Other people have had quality control issues with this as well. Sad to say this one didn't work out for me. In the future I would stick with Takamines made in Japan, which tends to be the higher end models.
