Guild D-120

By Josip from Croatia on April 2, 2024

This is my first Guild guitar. Excellent build quality in the price range, great look and sound. Gig bag is excellent quality, and the picks are a great addition and complete the overall great impression. Well done Guild.

Repeat Performance

By Jim from Middle Tennessee on July 20, 2023 Music Background: Hobbist and some public performance for 50 years.

Recognizing sound and feel is a very personal and subjective measure, I can't say enough about the solid mahogany Guild dreadnoughts. I purchased the D1212 earlier in the year and liked it so well I had to have the six-string version also. These guitars have the boom and voice of a dreadnought, but also a "shimmer" across the strings that sets it apart from other mahogany guitars that I have. Neck is a bit fuller than a Martin C, but I have small hands and it still plays with ease. Another item of note is that the bodies are slightly smaller than other dreadnoughts making it easy to hold and play "on the couch". I've always been a Martin fan and own several, but I gotta say these Guilds (Asian sourced) are knocking it out of the park with regard to quality of finish, sound, and playability for the money. Nobody paid me to say this, I'm just a fan of a good sounding and feeling guitar.

My second Guild

By Eric from Hampton, VA on February 20, 2023 Music Background: Still a relatively new guitarist but enjoying the journey.

After two years of learning the guitar, I decided to research a full-size guitar. My first, a Guild M240E Troubadour, is a concert-sized guitar with a sitka spruce top and mahogany sides and back. Along with a full size guitar, I wanted one with different wood construction and finally settled on the D120 from Guild. I looked at other guitars on SW's website, but I finally settled on a second Guild. I requested a setup before it was shipped and this thing is a beautiful piece of work. The pictures do not do the guitar any justice. The deeper sound is what I was looking for compared to my M240E and I'm looking forward to playing both Guilds for a long time. You will not be disappointed in purchasing this guitar!

Purchased this for my son to learn on. Great guitar, great sound. Customer service at Sweetwater was beyond incredible. Great company to purchase from. Answered all my questions and the follow up communication to see how it was going was very nice.

Guild D-120 Natural Great all solid wood acoustic!

By Paul W from Glendale, Az on November 30, 2022 Music Background: Recording Musician

I don't like electronics or cutaways in an acoustic guitar, and I was looking for all solid wood vs Sapele or laminated. This Guild D-120 seemed to fit the bill. I'm aware that African Mahagony is cheaper than regular Mahagony but who cares? This Guild has a big booming sound and is very versatile whether using a pick or finger picking. It is really a beautiful looking guitar with a deep, dark, Rosewood fretboard. Most guitars in this price range are not using Rosewood. The Gig bag is decent. I live in Arizona and it's seriously dry here, but the case holds the humidity with my cheap sponge humidifier so no issues with that. I had it set up at Sweetwater and glad I did. The action on this thing is ridiculous, it's lower than my electric guitars and zero buzz! Justin G or Tustin G set it up and did a brilliant job! (i couldn't make out the first initial of his name). At the time of writing this the price has dropped a hundred bucks, if someone is considering buying this wonderful all solid wood guitar you should now if not sooner. I'm very happy with it and enjoy playing it!

Guild guitar for my daughter's wedding

By Sweetwater Customer on July 21, 2022 Music Background: Self tought

My Daughter is getting married next year 2023, she is having my son her brother play the wedding March on are new Guild 120.D..this guitar sounds beautiful and plays fantastic, we couldn't be happier with this guitar. This is my first guild guitar but it will not be the last. The neck on this guitar has a really good feel to it which makes changing cord very easy and fast, has good sustain and stays in tune. GreT guitar I would recommend it to everyone

Looks and sounds great

By Fetch from RALEIGH, NC on July 13, 2022 Music Background: Advancing "mid life" Beginner

Bought this guitar as a demo unit from the local guitar shop which made it an even better deal. The all solid mahogany provides a balanced midrange sound which helps balance my beginner "heavy handedness" on the treble strings (especially on the upstrums). The gloss finish and beautiful figuring of the mahogany make it wonderful to look at and hard to resist picking up.

Overall this guitar is a great value at the "entry level" price point for an all solid wood guitar.

New workhorse!

By Nolan from Texas on June 11, 2022 Music Background: Worship leader

This guitar arrived in tune in sounding great! The action is perfect. I love the neck profile. I am primarily a Taylor player. The neck on this guitar is a little bit bigger than my Taylor , but still very comfortable. I bought this guitar because I love guild, I wanted a dreadnought, and I wanted an all mahogany guitar. This guitar checked all the boxes and at the price point I don't think it could be beat.

I will start using this guitar every weekend at my church.

I will say After I had a pick up installed and changed the strings to Martin SP light gauge, The sound became a little stringy when strummed. I'm going to experiment with medium gauge strings, and maybe a different pick to get that original warm full sound it had out of the box. .

Great Quality Purchase!

By Lora from Fort Wayne, Indiana on March 19, 2022 Music Background: Enthusiastic Beginner!

When I first saw this hanging in the showroom, I was taken aback by its beauty and then I had to look twice at the price because I thought it was too good to be true! The sound quality is excellent and the workmanship is so beautiful. I am beyond excited to start playing on my new Guild Acoustic Guitar!

really loving these things!

By Michael Sanson from STOUTSVILLE, OH on February 25, 2022 Music Background: played for years but not professionally but i have been stage a few times

first, great guitar and great tone, and not just "for the money" these are great guitars. my first guild came several years ago, i wanted an all Mohagany small body so I bought a guild om-120. man am I glad I did. a year after i bought it i ran across a om body martin. can't remember model but new i think they were 1500, i gave 1000 used. th guild sounded and played much better so i sold the martin. on to an all mahogany dreadnaught, last year i picked up a martin dm mahogany, not impressed, kept it few days then sold. now i have this d-120, this think is spot on with tone and plays like butter. this guild looks and sounds like a guitar 3 times it's price. i love martin and gibson, i have a d-18 and an hd28 i would never part with, but they can't make a guitar like this guild for that kind of money period.

Great Guitar!

By Todd Reynolds from Burnsville, MN on December 3, 2021

Ive played guitar for many years, and I've been looking for a new dreadnought for the past few years. I've played many guitars both cheap and expensive but kept coming back to the D-120 has a great sounding guitar and an attritive price. I loved the full mahogany construction and the sound was full and deep. It played great and felt like a solid well build guitar. I finally decided to buy one and chose to come here to Sweetwater, I really like that you can see exactly what guitar your buying and the prep and service is the best. I received the guitar in 2 days and was perfectly set up and even IN TUNE! The D-120 is the best guitar for the money on the market IMHO. It played like a dream and sounds sweet and full. I could not be happier with my purchase.

Guild's never fail!

By Bob Trebra from Connecticut on November 25, 2021 Music Background: Playing guitar for 2o years plus!

Received my D-120 and what a GREAT guitar! Beautiful grain and look. Once I adjusted the Truss rod and tightened the strings, this guitar SINGS!!Great feel, Beautiful Tone and easy to play. Guild know how to make guitars right. I wish they would go back to a Black semi rigid bag not a big fan of the light gray ones, BUT hey, the guitar is what matters.....

Such a sweet voice!

By Taylor Wind Set from ENNIS, MT on September 8, 2021

I bought this guitar after long contemplation. I have a Martin D-15m and I really like it, but I wanted another mahogany guitar in my collection. My sales engineer, Mitch Dazey, and I talked it over and I bought it. Couple of things, here.....even though it's not particularly relevant, I have never had as many compliments on a guitar as this one has had. It's flat out gorgeous. Now, the good part.....this guitar sings loud and clear. I like the way my Martin sounds, but this guitar is so much different in voice. I played it at a semi-outdoor venue a few weeks ago, and had no trouble being heard because the guitar projects so well. Guild is known for the projection, and this guitar does not disappoint. It is very playable, as well. It's not clunky and the neck is plenty fast. I'm using Elixir strings and the entire neck is a playground. One thing I have always liked about Guild is their initial setup at the factory, for some reason, it's the best worker for me. I highly recommend this guitar, and I will probably buy another before the year is out,

Guild D-120

By Sweetwater Customer on August 16, 2021

Good news: I just obtained a 1971 Martin D-18 in perfect working order. The bad news: it doesn't sound as good as my Guild D-120! I'm not kidding! Do you think I want that to be the case? The Martin cost almost 3 times as much! But that's good news for you if you're looking at getting a D-120.

I purchased my D-120 in January of 2021. Everything about it is 5 star. It looks great, it sounds fantastic. I thought mahogany dreds were supposed to be on the quiet side, but this one is loud, definitely louder than the D18. All solid wood, comfortable neck, sounds great! Again, I spent the last 3 days A-Bing it against the Martin, and the Martin is no dud. Buy the D120, its a steal! My sales technician, Parker Denny, did a fantastic job. He's good people.

Amazing Guitar

By Collin from Pittsburgh on August 8, 2021

Sounds Beautiful, looks beautiful, plays beautifully. That's all, probably one of the best acoustics at this price point.

Very warm feeling

By Ricky Daughtry from Georgia on January 2, 2021

I purchased the D-120 in Sep. It has a very warm distinct sound that I can feel in my chest. Very easy to finger and to improvise on. Sweetwater and my sales rep made double I received exactly what I was looking for all the way down to make and gauge of the strings. Very satisfied. Thanks Sweetwater and Nich.

Warm powerful, easy to play, love the all mahogany!

By Thomas Jackson from Greensboro, NC on December 28, 2020

Beautifully resonant. I put a bone saddle on and bone pins, but honestly it sounded like a piano on first pick up. Well set up out of the box. This is my third Guild Westerly and I think the combo of tone, projection, comfort, and aesthetics cannot be beat. I got mine on an unbelievable open box deal, all the more to celebrate.
Playing 32 years, running into arthritis issues, so I lowered the action and put some Kurt Mangan round core strings on and I sound better than maybe ever, and that is including some high end guitars. On many days I prefer it to my Gibson J-45 as the attack isn't so loud, but the warmth and sustain are not to be believed. Recommend without reservation. Compares with similar Martin and wins. TJ

Great

Great Service Fast shipping
I can not say enough good things about this company.
My son has used them for years. He agrees "Best company to work with"!

Great Guitar

By Tom from Kingston, PA on May 19, 2020 Music Background: Casual player for many years

The Guild D-120 (in Natural) sounds fantastic, delivering lush resonance and tones that fill the room. The neck feels incredibly smooth, and it plays just as comfortably. It's also a gorgeous all-solid guitar, with stunning mahogany grain patterns and a beautiful gloss finish that draws them out perfectly. I'm absolutely thrilled that I now own one. And the shipping from Sweetwater was fast and easy too.

Factory Perfect

By Colton on April 20, 2020 Music Background: Casual Player

Fit and finish is perfect, no sharp edges, extra glue, or missing finish on the edge of the board. The binding and fretboard, which has no binding are rounded to a soft curve that causes no discomfort. String spacing is even across the fretboard and action is set up perfect with no buzz at any note across the board with a slight bow that might border on a bit much, but this is by eye using the tap test and looking down the neck; measurement might make that assertion incorrect. The rosewood used on this is richly dark and dense on both the saddle and fretboard. My only complaint is the pickguard is just the smallest bit sloppy with some very light, straight, vertical scratches under the transparent sticker used to protect the pickguard. At the same time, it's just a pickguard and is meant to protect the integrity of the wood and will be scratched eventually. I won't mention the sound, except to say that you have to judge it for yourself.

Here is the most impressive thing about the guitar, this is straight from the factory without the 55-point inspection due to unforeseen circumstances.

Went Guitar Buying

By Robert Kubacki from Indiana on December 1, 2020 Music Background: Aging Novice

I made the decision in the April to buy a new guitar. I researched and drooled over many in my budget range, but did not know what I was going to get. I was told, play it before you buy it. So when the money was right I took a journey to the Sweetwater show room. Best and most comfortable showroom I've had the chance to visit. Told Greg the Salesman what I was looking for and I spent the next three hours playing and jamming on mess of guitars. Now I've got a budget and I wanted this one Seagull, but could not swing it. I just keep on eyeing this one Guild. It was just awesome looking guitar and played well.

I am not a professional or a guitar geek. It came with its own gig "very nice" gig bag. The finish was awesome and the action was nice, works for me. I find that this guitar likes to be handled with a more delicate hand. It pings out high notes with excellent mid range. Bass seems a bit muted, but I did get a concert size model. Fret board plays well and it stays in tune. My experience at Sweetwater was awesome. Staff was helpful and friendly. The fellow pickers in the showroom was courteous. I went guitar buying and had a great time ended up a fine guitar.

Great full-bodied acoustic tone out of the box

By Kevin O'Connor from Lexington, KY on May 8, 2023 Music Background: hobby musician

I recently sold my Gibson J-15, and ordered a Martin D-10e. I was looking for a specific, woody acoustic tone at a lower price point than the J-15. The Martin didn't have this, but this guitar seems like it will work! I've only played it for about 1/2 out of the box but it sounds great and is very playable. It also seems like it will get better with age. I'm giving it four stars, but I considered 5 as well, I just think it's too early to tell, but my initial sense is yes.
