Using Them Since '79

By DanShaf from SE Connecticut
Music Background: playing since 1968, thank you Mick Taylor

Yes, I have used the other brands. The GHS Boomers 10 - 46 have been my string of choice since 1979. Probably in a blindfold test I couldn't tell the difference, but that's not my method of choosing. I'm extremely fussy and I like knowing that my finger-to-guitar interface is this GHS Boomers 10 - 46, otherwise I feel stressed. My equipment is choice is my '78 Gibson Les Paul Standard and my three 1970s Ampeg amps. Ok? Golden tone from top to bottom, the string set is a main ingredient.

The best strings

By Daniel D. from Battle Creek MI

I've used GHS Boomers since the mid 80's. I've tried many other brands and they don't compare! The price is great.
I use guitar and bass strings. In addition the acoustic strings are great also!
A side note if you have an obscure string instrument GHS will make custom strings for you

Not what they used to be!!!

By Brian P. from Buda, TX
Music Background: Professional guitarist, Director of jazz guitar program at a major university

I've been using GHS Boomers almost exclusively for well over 30 years. I'm a professional guitarist and director of the Jazz Guitar Performance program at a large university. When these strings are right, they're wonderful with a great feel, fat tone, and quick responsiveness. However, the quality control in manufacturing has significantly faltered over the years. In almost ever pack, at least one of the wound strings sounds dead or won't intonate correctly, so I've started buying single strings knowing that I'll have to throw away at least one or two strings every time I restring the guitar. I've also noticed that the new strings aren't as responsive as those manufactured many years ago. GHS specifically solicits customer feedback and/or questions on their website, so I wrote to them several years ago asking if they'd reformulated the alloys for the Boomer sets. I never got a response. In the last few months, I've been especially unhappy with the sound and feel of the Boomers I've been buying. My suspicions about changes in the product were confirmed when I recently found a set of Boomers I'd bought in the 1990s. I put them on the guitar and it immediately came alive. These were 30-year-old strings!! Anyway, I know that things change with time, but I wish that it weren't so. I'll be trying lots of strings out over the next few months in the hope that another manufacturer is making a string that's comparable to the old GHS Boomers. Clearly, GHS has decided to cut corners and/or material costs.

Boomers.. nuff said

By Chris M.
Music Background: Live musician, YouTube, studio

Used these strings for all my playing and continuing gigging years. Been playing for over 25 + years. They are reliable and I hardly ever break them. Buy a set.. go, now.. run!

I suggest you try a set.

By Ronardo from Shelton CT

I was a big Ernie Ball fan but about two years ago someone gave be a set of Boomers. I have not looked back! Only string I ever buy now for all the obvious reasons: tone, reliability, strength etc. Or Maybe I've just been lucky.

Love My Boomers

By Trevor B. from Battle Creek, MI

I have been using GHS Boomers since I began playing more than 15 years ago. They're long lasting, have a nice break resistance, and has nice snappy tone. A pack of Boomers lasts me twice as long as other brands and when I apply Fast Fret, it's even longer! GHS are the best string brand on the market!
