Eminence GA-SC-X 12-inch 60-watt 8-ohm Guitar Amp Speaker Reviews

60W, 8-ohm, 12" Speaker with Neodymium Magnet

The Eminence GA-SC-X speaker combines all your favorite features of classic speakers with some modern refinements. Designed in collaboration with legendary amp guru George Alessandro, the GA-SC-X features a tight and punchy low end with a warm, smooth midrange akin to a certain British-flavored speaker but with more authority — enough to help cut through in a mix. Sweetwater guitar players are excited about the benefits that the neodymium magnet provides: it reduces the physical weight of the speaker, increases its power handling, and produces even more dynamics to their tone. Add a quartet of GA-SC-X speakers in your favorite 4 x 12-inch cabinet for an excellent upgrade to your guitar rig that will be easier on your back between gigs.

Lightweight and sounds much like a Greenback to me

By SANDTRAP from Detroit Burbs
Music Background: Hobbyist

Allesandro puts the SC-X in his "The Mutt" which serves as a Swiss Army Knife for Touring Musicians. It has a 2" VC and NO doping around the outer cone...the larger VC rolls off the nasties above 4K which i like because you get more of the lower order harmonic coloration without excess hash. The lack of doping makes the brand new speaker feel and sound more open right from the start. I put it in a Quilter US Cub and couldn't be happier as it is lighter than the Factory Eminence (which isn't bad once its broken in!) I play a Strat with Fralins and use a Source Audio ZIO running parallel outs to the TWEED and BLONDE channels. Between the ZIO and the Cubs Active EQ i can dial in most any coloration i want. Set the Amp Clean and hit a big chord and it almost has that magic you get from a big Acoustic Guitar.

Dial in Gain, crank the Boost and it acts like a BIG Greenback. Ive read many putting in a Cannabis Rex to tame the Bright Nature of the Cub and I would say definitely give the SC-X a chance as it has a certain special sauce. Immediate Smiles with a brand new out of the box speaker are rare ime.

The Cub was a Sweetwater Demo so I have to assume the Factory Speaker was somewhat broke in? It didn't sound bad but definitely a bit of a challenge to EQ out the Bright $ region. I tried my Jensen Blackbird 40 and it is lighter than the Factory Eminence but again took extra EQ work to tame Bright spots. The SC-X feels like a worn in shoe right from the start and it is present without being thin or Bright. Reminds me of a Greenback...which lies in the sweet spot between Big Magnet Jensen Ceramic Cut and Creamback Wooliness.

Should only get better as it breaks in!

Thanks to Alex Rodriguez for all his assistance and patience in helping me with gear.
