Gretsch G6131T-62 Vintage Select Edition '62 Duo Jet - Firebird Red Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Chambered Mahogany Body, Maple Top, Mahogany Neck, Ebony Fretboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Bigsby Tailpiece - Vintage Firebird Red

The Duo Jet practically defined the early '60s for Gretsch, and this G6131T-62 Vintage Select Edition '62 Duo Jet captures all its spirit perfectly. To get the most authentic late-'50s/early-'60s solidbody tone, Gretsch outfitted this re-creation with a pair of TV Jones Classic Filter'Tron pickups and a period-correct Treble Bleed circuit with Squeezebox PIO capacitors. The chambered mahogany body adds a touch of acoustic resonance to the '62 Duo Jet's tone, plus you get a bit of extra attack from the '62-standard zero fret. Lastly, there's just something extra classy you can only get from the contrast of a vintage Firebird Red finish with gold hardware, which includes a Space Control bridge with pinned ebony base and Bigsby B3G vibrato tailpiece.

Heck Yeah

Rock 'n Roll. I'll never sell this guitar.

Wow!

By David from Montgomery, TX on January 1, 2022 Music Background: 40 plus years playing whatever with whoever

I had this guitar in my cart more than 10 times. Each time I would look at all the guitar cases in my room and say, I don't need another one. Really??? Never had a Gretsch. Have more than my fair share of Les Pauls and Strats. Never a Duo Jet. The day finally came. They had one left and the serial number really spoke to me. I finally pulled the trigger and received it about 2 months ago. Let's say, it is the only guitar I've picked up for 2 months. This thing just sings. I play it through a Tone King Imperial and bought it for that sound. I ordered a new Bogner Helios head. Let's say these guys are a match made in heaven. I have many amps, it sounds best when cranked but it sounds awesome with everything I've played it through. I even played it direct with my pedal board. WOW!. Why in the HECK have I not purchased this guitar earlier. It would have saved me a ton of money on other purchases. Since I received this, it has been on every gig with me. I'm thinking of adding a White Falcon to the mix now. The fit and finish on this thing is perfect. Had a little noise out of the stand-by switch. After playing a little while, it went away. Guess it had some debris in it. If you want that guitar that fits the Les Paul, Tele, Strat arsenal. This is the obvious next purchase. You will not put this one down though. I've gone through 3 sets of strings since I bought it.

The Complete Package

By william jackson from NY on May 8, 2021 Music Background: Guitar player who plays anything I like, from Jazz, country, rock and classical.

I received this beauty about two weeks ago and I was in awe. It was a beauty. I made some adjustments for fit the way I play and plugged it into my mustang mark two amp. Sounded just great, The pickups were clear as a bell. I did however need to make some adjustments on the presets I made since these pickups were so hot. I played some Chet Atkins and some Jonny Smith style pieces on it and it sounded great. I was surprised on how well the 'mud switch' worked. This is the first Gretsch that I have that has a 'mud switch'. I have the Chet Atkins Country Gentleman 59 GE model that does not have a mud switch. I also have two Electromatic duo jets so I am new to the mud switch. I am happy with all my Gretsch guitars. I am a finger picker so my Country Gent is my go to since it has a wider neck. My new one however lets me do longer finger spreads to do all those Johnny Smith closed voicings. I took my new red beauty and tried it on Amplitube 5 and WOW!! I made a bunch of new presets just for this guitar. This guitar can be used on any amp from vintage fender to the orange models. Works well with GTR 3 also. You can get all these amp sims from Sweetwater. Try doing those Chet Atkins harmonics on this baby and hear the bells of heaven. I am talking clean and pristine. I am not a metal or distortion player, I just fool around once in a while with this genre and it seems this guitar holds up. I also have a little tip you guys that use thumb picks. In the Sweetwater search type in Herco thumb picks and try the 3 pick package of the red, yellow and blue picks, they are a combo pick that is a flat pick that you can put on your thumb. I am sold on these. Try them now! They come in heavy, medium and light, try them all. Overall I am trilled by this guitar. I have been playing for 63 years and I can say this guitar and my Chet Atkins Country Gent 59 GE are the very best guitars I have ever had. Bill Jackson, Queens NYC.

Always wanted a GRETSCH...

By Don Ward from West Virginia on September 13, 2020 Music Background: Playing for 40 years plus...More of a collector at this point in my life.

My new Gretsch arrived a few weeks ago. Beautiful right out of the box. Needed a few tweaks to get it just right for me.
Great service, timely shipping right to my door.
Plays wonderfully, easy on the eyes. Body shape of an ES 335 but smaller which I do enjoy.
Thanks to Derek and the Sweetwater Staff..

Wow!

By Buzz from Studio on October 30, 2019 Music Background: Guitar 30 yrs.

This guitar is total quality. Twang, jazz, ROCK. It does it all!!! Jeeeesh this thing is hot. You will be happy. This guitar is the missing link, an all in one and a one for all. A true one of a kind Gretsch. After this guitar was invented they should have just stopped.

That's the way I like to rock n roll!

When I saw this axe whist browsing the Sweetwater web site, this beast jumped out at me and my thought was I want to get one of these. It looked great on the web site with it's deep red color and gold hardware. When I read the spec and saw the TV Jones classic pick ups at the bottom, that was the frosting on the cake on top of everything else that made the decision for me easy. It arrived set up perfectly, it looks fantastic love the ebony fret board, roller bridge and the craftsmanship is awesome (flawless). I took a day off work and plugged it into my Marshall tube amp, the tones made me grin ear to ear. It took me a few weeks to put it down in the evenings after work and at the weekend. Also took a few weeks to play one of my other guitars (more so than any new axe I have purchased). The looks, the tone and there is just something that draws me to Gretche's in particular. I love my Gibson Les Paul & SG and other Gretche's (6120 & Power-jet) but, if I was only allowed to keep one guitar from my collection, this would be it. I think I am over the initial excitement and it's just down to I can't put it down once I pick it up. If you like the look, the sound (great for blues, rock & rock n roll) and you can afford it buy it. When you get so much enjoyment and play it for hours and hours over the years to come my thoughts are it's value for money. It is also an easy instrument to play. Finally a big thank you to Ian Angle my ever helpful, knowledgeable, pleasant and informative sales engineer. Cheers!

A rock machine

By Gearhead from Fort Worth on June 30, 2022 Music Background: I’m a very ok guitar player

One complaint: the location of the strap button causes the guitar to be pretty neck heavy. If they put it behind the neck joint it would be much better balanced.

Otherwise this is one sleazy rock monster. If you can't rip it up with this guitar you're just not trying. Great pickups. Great neck. Great looks. Sounds amazing clean, dirty, you name it.
