Gretsch G5655T-QM Electromatic Center Block Jr. Quilt Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar - Sweet Tea Reviews

Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Maple Top, Back, and Sides, Maple Neck, Laurel Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Sweet Tea

The Electromatic Center Block Jr. Quilt has stunned many of our guitarists with its good looks. As it turns out, the powerful tone that this axe can produce amounts to the exact same reaction. Built with a laminated quilted maple body, a chambered spruce center block, and a gloss-finish maple neck, the Center Block Jr. Quilt is built to perform with pivotal voicing. The addition of Broad’Tron humbuckers and a Bigsby tailpiece only further allows for a well-rounded, highly controllable sound. Best of all, this axe’s collection of nickel hardware and appointments ensures its status among the finest of Gretsch instruments.

Surprised me

By Sweetwater Customer on February 7, 2024 Music Background: Been playing guitar seriously since 1979. Rhythm, Bass, Lead, Lapsteel. Have a personal studio at home, I make backing tracks for people at church. I play Gospel, Country, Pop, Light Rock, Blues, Jazz...

I purchased this guitar with the intention of changing the pickups as soon as I bought it. But, after playing it for a few minutes I was pleasantly surprised with the sound. I would not change a thing on this Gretsch. It plays nice, is a beautiful as it is in the pictures. Gretsch has stepped up their game on the Electromatic line. I am extremely please with this product. I recommend it to any one that is looking for an alternative to the current front leaders in lead guitar. Les Paul's, Strat's, Tele's watch out for this one...

Gretsch Electromatic G5655T-QM

By Michael from LA on June 12, 2023

I've had this G5655T-QM in Sweet Tea for about a week. Bottom line - I am very pleased with this guitar.
Per SW's recommendation, the unopened shipping box was allowed to acclimate overnight.
Upon opening, the overall appearance of the instrument, to include the apparent QC, was excellent, bordering upon exceptional. I find the quilt maple front/back, albeit veneer, nonetheless stunning (admittedly a personal taste observation).
The fretwork is very good to excellent, but the board was a bit dry. Treating the board with F-One Oil slightly darkened the laurel wood and pleasingly accentuated its tight grain.
As delivered, neck relief was .020 (8th fret), with no apparent tension on the truss rod.
Action (12th fret) was at 4/64ths.
Pots are dime-sized, w/log taper (very steep taper in the last third of rotation).
Pickup values: Bridge - 5.29, Neck - 5.35, Both - 2.67
Capacitance: Bridge - 1.09, Neck - 1.07 (measured w/6" cable)
Don't let the pickup values fool you (play one on a good amp and you'll see).
I did a setup: adjusted the truss rod to .008 relief per Gretsch recommended spec; set the action (12th fret) to 3/64". There is no buzzing, nor any choked notes.
Once the strings (10-46) stretched and settled in, the guitar stays in tune pretty well--even with modest use of the Bigsby.
I own a number of Gretsch instruments, most of which are from the Pro PE series, so I'm pretty particular about what may merit a place in my collection; this G5655T-QM easily qualifies. I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of this guitar—especially at this price point. The Gretsch Electromatic Line has seriously raised the bar. I would acquire it again, without question.
It does not come with a case or gig bag; I'd strongly recommend getting a hard case (I did).
I knocked off half-a-star for the lack of a hard case, and the dime-sized pots; but at this price, neither are really deal breakers.
And lastly, I should acknowledge my SW Sales Engineer, Mike Soper, whom I can't thank enough for all his help, advice, and guidance--it is deeply appreciated.

its nice!

i think this is hard to beat at its price point. only real negative is that the pickups are very low output. sweetwater shipping nailed it as usual. outer box had a hole punched in it, but inner gretsch box was unharmed!!
