Great Guitar

By Cary Loynd from Oklahoma City on October 12, 2021 Music Background: Started playing guitar at seven years old self taught.

The setup team did a wonderful job making sure the guitar was pliable out of the box the action on it is great. The feel of the guitar is great. It may not be a Les Paul Custom but it's the closest thing you can get. Alex did a wonderful job also.

Great product, great service

By Steve Burleson from San Antonio, TX on July 18, 2021 Music Background: Used to play a lot in the early to mid 70's and just messed around after that.

I have not played guitar in about 30 years and wanted to get back into playing. I was not sure what wanted but knew the Gretsch name and reputation - and after reading the reviews on this model, decided to purchase one and sure am glad I did. It plays so easy I'm sure I'll have no problems getting back up to my previous playing level. The customer service was amazing and the guitar arrived as advertised - clean, tuned and ready to play. This will not be my last purchase from Sweetwater. Keep up the good work.

Excellent guitar for beginners too

By Dayn Mizuno from Hawaii on February 14, 2021

After watching a You Tube video by Brooks Reid explaining the differences between the necks of the Gretsch Electromatic guitars I decided to give this one a try. This is my best purchase so far, being a beginner I needed something that offered more space between strings and this guitar gives me exactly that. I also own a CV 50s Telecaster and a CV 60s Stratocaster and this Gretsch is becoming my favorite. I liked the sound and playability so much that I got myself another Gretsch, a G2622 Streamliner, which is a little bigger but the neck feels the same and the sound is a little different but still sounds nice. Maybe as I improve the CVs will be easier to play but for now the Grestch is the way to go for me.

Oh, Yeah!

By Bob from Tallmadge, OH on July 3, 2019 Music Background: Former garage bander, now bedroom noodler

I was looking for something that fell between the full to muddy sound of a Gibson and the jangle of a telecaster. It was a tossup between this and a boutique style tele with swiss army knife combinations of single and humbucker tones. I have always loved the classy look of Gretsch guitars, and pulled the trigger on this Jet BT.

It beautifully hits that in-between sound! On the bridge bucker alone, you get a very 'tele' feel, but more mojo. With both pickups on, you get a really rich, articulate (hello, Gretsch!) sound with enough midrange for some thickness. You can change the flavor of the output substantially with different picking attack, since there is treble there, but also good beef in the pickups. The neck pickup also has better than expected articulation. Sounds great clean, and with low to middle ground gain. Paired with a Fender Twin or Vox sound you get everything from richness to Beatles style kerrang!

I am interested in classic rock and blues tones, so I don't get into high gain very much. However, this gives my Les Paul Studio a very serious run for the money, at less than half the price. BTW, Sweetwater set this thing up so it plays like butter. It looks super nice. And, Sweetwater delivered as promised to a secure pickup location, on the second business day! Great job by Dave Snow's team, as usual!

Love it

First gretsch I have owned and I am impressed. Plays smooth, price is awesome, and it seems to help me achieve the sound I have been chasing for a while now. I have been playing worship music with a Strat. This Guitar simplifies my playing by being able to achieve the tones I need with pick attack more so than adjusting all of the knobs and switches on my strat. It"s all personal preference but, Im a fan now and thanks to Kevin Spunde for taking care if me.

Gretsch G5220

By Mike Johnson from Moultrie, GA on January 28, 2024

Whoa! Excellent build and finish quality. Love the colour! I normally do my own setups, however, in my later years I've become lazy and after years reading about PLEK setups I bit the bullet and I love it!I definitely recommend getting one! action and frets are fantastic! This is my first Gretsch and the U shaped neck is something new to me as I have mainly had guitars with C shaped necks, After playing it I don't even notice the difference now. The pups put me in mind of mini humbuckers, they are very bright even with the tone turned down(more on that later) its not a deal breaker, for me anyway. I'm still tweek my guitar and amp to find that sweet spot. Now for the 4 1/2 stars. The tone pot is a little strange, if you turn it all the way down it's like a volume knob the pups don't get muddy it's like it turns the volume very low. As I said this it my first Gretsch, so it may be just the nature of the beast. I'm planning on tweaking the eq on the amp to cut some of the brightness out, that being said its is not a piercing brightness(love that). Ok that worked, I'm running it through a Bugera V55. I tweaked the eq bass 7, mids 5, treb 4, after doing all that the tone pot is more usable. With this EQ setting I'm getting a sweet ringing creamy tone.As always Payton came through on the action height advice. Thanks man!

Chinese Gretsch

Love mine! The chambered body provides a classic tone. The pickups are hot. Very playable too. Excellent value for the money.

Yeah Baby

By Dennis Collins from Apopka, Florida on April 9, 2018 Music Background: 52 years Studio and Rock groups.

Well made and came to me ready to play. Makes my Gibson Studio obsolete. Play through a Marshall dsl40cc, Ibanez tube screamer, and mini delay. Great for Pink Floyd.
Set up is great. I've received about 6 guitars and amps from Sweetwater and never disappointed. Thankful to a company that cares and great rep...Matt Emick.
Thanks so much, continue the great customer service.

Get yourself one!

By John Paciulli from NY on April 12, 2020 Music Background: Playing 35 yrs.

Took a chance on this Chinese made Chambered body. It DOES NOT disappoint. Excellent tone, and volume even when unplugged. The fuller tone pickups are hot, frets dressed well. A lot of ban for the buck

Was great until…

By Sammy from California on March 3, 2022

I was looking at this Gretsch for a while and fortunately got to play it before buying and really liked it. Sweetwater did a great job making playable right out of the box. This Gretsch seems pretty high quality for the price and sounds great too. But about a month in the pickups started to cut in and out sometimes both. It became really unreliable to use Live and I was just disappointed. So I got in contact with Sweetwater and I have returned it. Customer service was great no questions asked!
Thanks Ben!
