My 2nd Gretsch
I already had a Gretsch G5622T guitar and really liked it. That's what got me interested in looking at the G5220. It is a chambered solid body and I thought it would be a different feel and a different sound. I was correct in my thoughts. Even though it has the same style pickups it does sound different and I love it. The neck is not as chunky as the G5622T for sure. It plays and sounds wonderful, very full sound. I have to get used to the neck radius though as I have always played Fenders with 9.5 radiuses. The quality in workmanship is amazing and the color is beautiful! It looks different in different lighting and that's a cool thing to me. I did have a hard time choosing what color to purchase because of all the beautiful colors offered. I am glad I went with the Firestick Red! As always Sweetwater made the purchase easy, fun, informative and affordable. My guitar arrived in 2 days, double boxed in perfect condition. If all this is not good enough I got $100 in bonus bucks that I put towards the matching case for my new guitar. What a great deal!! Thanks to David at Sweetwater and all of his great sales engineers.
My first Gretsch
This sling goes from clean to mean. I'm glad I took a chance on it. I have a little Vox modeling amp and putting it through the various settings has been a blast. I have it tuned to open G with the Keith Richards 5 string set up and the strings are at a good low height. Good guitar from a beginner like me to learn on. Easy to maneuver up and down the neck. It's heavy compared to my acoustic for sure. Almost twice the weight. But you certainly don't have to reach so far around the body and the weight keeps it in place on your knee.

Overall, this guitar is outstanding. I own the 2210 and 2215...they're great too, but this model is certainly a step up.
The neck, frets and fretboard, the pickups and hardware are superb.
It plays very easily and it's "fast." The chambered body gives your tone warmth and a roundness that's very pleasing. The pickups take effects and overdrive very well! The tuners, bridge and nut are stable...you'll stay in tune! The intonation was almost perfect!
The red is not at all a fire engine red; rather, it's subtle and almost soft looking. I prefer the subtle red to a bright, in your face red and this fits the bill.
Awesome guitar
The finish on this guitar is so beautiful. The gretsch Jets are some of the best guitars on the market. Not for the price point just over all. They are amazing.
Gorgeous Guitar
I've had this guitar for a few days now and it is so good. It is absolutely stunning with the looks of it. The guitar plays great as well. You would not think this was a $... guitar. It plays better than my Gibson. Can not recommend this one enough.
2nd Times a Charm
This i my 2nd G5220, bought a Casino Gold one in 2018. I liked it but it left in a 3 guitar trade. Always missed it and after I settled down on my buying spree, I decided to get another one. Was not sure I liked the Firestick red color,but that is all that was available from Sweetwater. Sure, I could have bought one some where else,but I buy my guitars only from Sweetwater. You know what your getting. Anyhow i love this color more than any of the others, now that I can see it up close. Thanks to Jared Kalish[ext1662]for a great deal on a demo. I changed out the tuners to Grover 405 locking, put a set of D'Addario's on and now I have a guitar that is spot on tune and intonation.My #1 is a G&L Doheny but this Gretsch put a couple of very nice guitars in the closet.
Great guitar after some tune up
It's a great guitar but its made in china and since it's made in China and it has the usual issues that budget guitars from China have. I had to set it up. File the fret ends that were sharp but the fret level was good. Replace the output jack and 3 way switch with switch craft products the ones it came with were both wonky. Just ordered Schaller locking tuners for it the ones it comes with are adequate but.... The PickGuard is very thin and easy to break so be warned. After that its a gem for the money. The Broad-Tron Pickups are fantastic sounding pickups. hint-adjust them low. I love the neck profile and the color is drop dead gorgeous. I love these guitars and hope to someday get the Japanese made one if they ever come out with a color like the firestick red.
