Great platform for P90s that doesn't break the bank

By Joel from MA
Music Background: Amateur musician

This is a really nice take on a dual P-90 hardtail solid-body guitar. I knew the Gretsch Electromatics were a lot of guitar for the money, as I already have the semi-hollow version with Broad-Trons and a Bigsby that I love. I was looking for something with P90s that I could push harder and quickly switch to alternative tunings. This one really fit the bill. I've been playing for a while and haven't seen this level of build quality on a guitar in this price range before. It's got amazing sustain without weighing a ton and can really growl when pushed. I think the pickups are Gretsch's proprietary design, as they sound a little more mid-forward than other P-90s I've played and don't have much hum at all. The tuning stability is good, and the neck feels really comfortable to me. Note that you are not going to get much in terms of a signature Gretsch twang out of this pup, but Gretsch has other options for that in the same price range. I think all the colors options are drop-dead gorgeous, but went with the single barrel burst version because I think it has the most character.

G5210-P90 Electromatic

By Mike J. from Moultrie, GA

The colour is Cadillac Green and to put it plainly it's a Cadillac. This is my 3rd Gretsch I'm defiantly a fan. excellent craftmanship, quality all the way around. I have nothing to compare the P-90s with except Epiphones P-90s, as far as that goes the Epi's are no match for the Gretsch P-90s. I had it Plek and lowered the action, I set the pup height to my preference. I had this guitar around 3 weeks or so, and other than the build quality the thiung that stands out to most to me is the pickups, they have more twang than a Telecaster, bridge, neck or both.(I'm playing through a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue.) These pups can even growl down and dirty... I it for everyone, nope, nothing is. However if you are looking to add to your stable, give it a try.

Amazing for the Price

By Daniel M. from PITTSBORO, IN

Something about the look of this guitar stuck out to me immediately. Once I got a chance to play it, the feel was a perfect match too. I preferred it over some other guitars that were twice the price. Most importantly, it inspired me to play!

That said, some of the hardware made me realize how they kept this guitar in this price range. I think some of the other reviews have mentioned it, but the tuning machines are very cheap. They just felt loose and unstable. I am having some new ones installed at the moment, so that should hopefully take care of that. After just two weeks of home playing, the 3-way switch started having some contact issues where the neck pickup would be silent until I jiggled the switch around a bit. It only happened a few times, but that and the cheap tuners are enough to drop it a half star. Cutting corners on hardware is pretty normal in the "affordable" guitar price range, so I was not caught off guard. I understood at the time of purchase that I may be investing a little bit more to make these types of upgrades, so I am still extremely happy with this purchase.

To end on another positive note, I love the pickups. I was interested in a P90 guitar since I have never owned one, and I absolutely love the way these pickups sound. It makes me wish I had not waited so long to try out P90s. I cannot comment on the sound of these pickups compared to other P90s, but I am happy with the ones Gretsch installed on this guitar.

Also, shout out to the in-store Sweetwater staff that helped me out. They were friendly and helpful throughout the whole process.

Gretsch is the bomb

By DEAN K. from LEO CEDARVILLE, IN
Music Background: guitar hobbyist for >50 years

I started my guitar quest 6 years ago with a Gretsch 5655TG limited edition. Since then, I have bought 14 guitars and have sold or returned all but 4. I have tried several of the expensive offerings from Fender, Gibson, Schecter and PRS as well as several "budget" guitars from Epiphone, Sire and Squire. My current collection of 4 guitars includes this 5210-P90, Gretsch G5622, Squire CV telecaster and Fender American Pro. II Strat. I have found nothing that can touch Gretsch as far as the range of tones you can get from one guitar and the quality you get for the price. The two Gretsch guitars were the only guitars of all I have had that had perfect intonation out of the box along with zero QC issues. I now regret getting rid of the Gretsch that I started with 6 years ago. I didn't realize at the time how good it was.

I Found My Soulmate Guitar

By Colin from Ontario, Canada
Music Background: Hobbyist, played in bands, now open jam nights

After more than fifty years of playing guitar, I believe I have finally stumbled across the one that suits me most. The fit in my hands, the looks, and most importantly the sound of this guitar are exactly suited to my needs and musical taste. The note articulation is perfect, and the overdriven bite and bloom is absolutely beautiful. This is the first Gretsch that I have ever owned. It is also the the first P-90 guitar I have owned. The build quality is outstanding. The hardware is top notch. It took me more than fifty years to find my musical partner tool, so better late than never. This guitar is astonishingly exceptional for the price. In my opinion, this is the best value in the guitar world.

The most UnGretsch …. Gretsch

By Timothy H. from FORT BRAGG, NC
Music Background: Local band guitar for hire, worship arts volunteer guitarist.

This guitar is the best kept secret for $. I play every weekend and it sits great in every mix. The pickups have great response and can drive your amp if you dig in. I went for the non bigsby version because I like staying in tune lol, it holds tune wonderfully, I have had zero issues. I thought I would have to change out the tuners but there is really no need. It's well balanced and comfortable to play standing or sitting. The only mod that players might want to do is replacing the pots to get a better taper when rolling off the volume, it does drop off under 5. Other than that, this really is a nice guitar, that not only looks great ( everyone checks it out ), but it's fun to play and unique. 10 out of 10 would recommend grabbing one before they are gone. Patrick had me taking care of in about 20 minutes and the guitar was on my front porch two days later. Great experience as always.

Gretsch G5210-P90 thru Marshall amp

By Philip R. from New York, NY
Music Background: guitarist/songwriter

The Gretsch G5210-P90 is outstanding build quality, playability, and sound. Especially at this price. I am uploading a video showing some tones of the P90 pickups through a Marshall DSL20 amplifier. No pedals.

Amazing guitar at fantastic price

By Philip R. from New York, NY
Music Background: guitarist/songwriter

I bought this guitar when first available in 2023. Have been playing it continuously and using it for recording. The sound quality, build quality, and playability are outstanding. This guitar far exceeds the level of other guitars that I have played in this price range. I included a video of the Gretsch G5210-P90 played through a Fender amp and a video recorded through a Marshall amp. No pedals ... just guitar straight into amps.

Very nice guitar!

By Jonathan from Oregon City, OR
Music Background: Singer, song writer, multi-instrumentalist

This guitar came up when I was browsing online. I immediately loved the look and color, but I waited a while before getting "another" guitar. I have a Gretsch 12 string electric and love it, so I figured this would be good too. I decided the price was right so I bought one. The workmanship and finish is superb, no flaws. The weight and balance is just right too. Neck is nice and easy to play on. The P-90s howl, growl, and sing. The only issue was the B string saddle had a burr which caused the string to sitar and sound swirly and louder than the other strings. I cleaned up the saddle with a jewelers file and that fixed it, but it still wasn't just right. knowing this guitar was a keeper, I replaced the wrap around bridge with a higher quality bridge and after the swap and a set up at my local luthier, its perfect. It looks and sounds as good or better than some of my guitars that cost twice as much. Add the hard shell case and you have a gig ready guitar that looks and sounds great and won't break the bank. I like this one so much that I bought the black G5230 with the Bigsby which I'll post a review on later. Looks like George Harrisons "ol' black Gretsch" and is equally as nice as the G5210. Very happy to have these guitars in my collection.

Great Value Gretsch!

By Bill from Ohio

Gretsch does not disappoint! Fit and finish is on par with much more expensive instruments. All knobs are heavy metal and feel great in the hands, more importantly, they work! The master volume is a great touch, and the treble bleed keeps it crispy at low output. The setup was really good right out of the box. Intonation was on the money. Super comfortable neck.

From twangy to crunchy to smooth and silky, the P90's deliver!

As a "bang for the buck" purchase, this thing stands up there with offerings from brands like Sire, etc.

Great Value and Quality

By Teemo from California

I was looking for a single cut p-90 guitar that wouldn't break the bank or my back. Love this guitar (caddilac green)! I was blown away by the quality of the guitar overall. From the chrome hardware to the pickups I was really impressed with this Jet. I honestly didn't know what to expect from the pickups but overall they are well balanced. My neck pickup (7.89 k/ohm) and bridge (8.84 k/ohm) complimented one another nicely and I don't feel the need to upgrade them. Typically when I buy an import guitar, pickups are the first thing to get swapped out. The only thing I'll be adding to this guitar is a linear/ tapper volume pot for the master volume, the rest will stay stock! Mine came in at 8lbs. 5 oz and is well balance with no neck dive. I'll probably pick up another one as a backup when I'm out gigging and playing at church.
