An Exceptional Value with Great P90 tone

By Jason Colello from SoCal on September 13, 2022

The P90 at the neck is fantastically gritty , while the Broad'Tron at the bridge is a completely different animal but does quite well on it's twangy own. A growling P90 and a bright and twangy Broad'Tron, it's an interesting combo that I really like. The middle position tone is quite unique, and another tonal aspect of this guitar that I'm digging. Balancing both pickups is challenging, but the best way to balance for me is simply using the volume control.

Fit and finish is very good for the price-point, with a huge positive going towards the exceptional fret finishing. Wonderfully rounded fret ends on all 22 frets, top and bottom. The Gretsch's fret end finishing was superior to that of my purchased new Player Strat, though the Player did have a bit more of a mirrored polish. The Gretsch's frets were still polished very well, and free of scratchiness.

The Laurel fretboard is smooth to the touch, and feel-wise is the best feeling Laurel board I've played on. Mine is a dark chocolate brown in color, and aesthetically pleasing.

A truly exceptional guitar for the money.
