My first order with Sweetwater - Zoom G1X FOUR Multi-effects Processor with Expression Pedal

By Sweetwater Customer

I was referred to Adam Hunter by my Brother-in-law from the Buffalo NY area. Based on my needs, Adam helped me to choose the Zoom G1 X Four multi effects processor. I'm very happy with the purchase of this equipment.

Adam is very knowledgeable, personable and highly professional in the high tech sound space. He also mentioned that if I needed help using the creation mode - he would be happy to help.

Thanks Again for the great service and products!

Zoom G1X Four

By Paul K.

For my purposes, this pedal is ideal and gives enormous bang for the buck. The presets included are great and the ease of customizing and creating my own gives me more than enough to be creative and actually enjoy playing, rather than getting bogged down in the technical aspects of it. The drum patterns are adequate to get the ideas flowing and the looper is a huge benefit to this as well. Great product, great price.

Incredible Value

By Sweetwater Customer

This is the proverbial Swiss Army Knife of guitar pedals. The delays, reverbs, and modulation effects are worth the price of admission. The overdrives and amp models are very usable (with some tweaking). The expression pedal is very smooth and responsive. I use it direct to a PA. Some of the overdrives and amp models can be noisy, but there is built in noise reduction, and a noise gate you can download from the Guitar Lab program, so you can alleviate most of the noise. The aforementioned editing software is probably the easiest I've used. Much simpler than the Line 6 and Boss editors. There's a ton of extra effects and models available for download. After using other modelers, I ALWAYS come back to the Zoom.

Excellent at this price point

By Mike from Brooksville, Florida
Music Background: Played guitar since 1964….

A lot of these 'patches' have same distortion sound element…
The saving grace is the ability to edit/change the patches to your liking.

Amazing for the price

By Will W. from BETHEL, CT
Music Background: Rock, jazz, home studio

Fantastic little unit! This is my main unit for jazz gigging, along with a looper. I use it constantly for EQ and subtle effects like spring reverb and compression, but there are plenty more extreme sounds inside. For the cost of a single not-even-fancy pedal, you can have tons of great effects, amp emulation, and practice tools like drums and a looper.

Pros: Sounds great. Handy tuner function. Assignable expression pedal. Easy to use editing software for your desktop. Huge selection of effects. Amp and cab emulators make this suitable for running straight into the PA. Again, sounds great.

Cons: Feels light and plastic-y (although it's taken some hits without issue). Editing on the unit directly is not so easy. Looper needs more time to be really useful.

If you're going to buy one guitar pedal around $, it should be this one, hands down, no contest.

Zoom G1X Four

By Michael B. from WEAVER, AL
Music Background: Fifty-plus years as a semi-pro musician

I have lots of pedals and multi FX. I use this guy weekly, through a DI into the house system. It will do a lot more than I require for this gig, and programming is easy. I have patches for acoustic, crunch, and thick wet lead. I monitor through headphones for my guitar, the rest of the group and tracks. I get good compliments on my sound.

It ZOOMZ!

By Sweetwater Customer

Great little multi-effects pedal for beginners and up. You could spend more money on just a pedalboard and power chain. This has a drum machine and looper. Sounds great through my Fender amp. Probably even better if you hook it up to a computer. Doesn't do everything but it does do a lot for a pretty reasonable price. Recommend getting the AC plug.

Zoom toward Missions!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Singer/Picker

Given this opportunity, I wanted to let you all know that this pedal is on its way to Jinja, Uganda as a gift to a young man who was rescued from the streets as an orphan at the age of 14. I've been mentoring him for 11 years. (sharing guitar and singing over the span of 6 trips) He is now 25 and a certified pharmacist as well as a musician in his church. In his spare time, he is teaching other young folks guitar, keyboard and percussion. This pedal will be a blessing to him as he pursues music at his church and helps others discover their musical gifts.
Thanks so much for your prompt service, and your passion as a company to bring 'The Universal Language' to so many!!
May God Richly Bless You!

Value packed unit

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a fantastic value. It has multiple different pedal effects that are very customizable. This was exactly what I was looking for, especially for someone who just plays at home for fun. You could use it for giging but the plastic housing could take beating and I would still personally prefer a pedal board with exactly what I needed. However if you're looking to experiment with multiple different individual pedal tones at home to figure out what you're looking for, this thing is perfect. Sweetwater has again proven to be a fantastic company to deal with. I highly recommend both the Zoom G1X FOUR Multi-Effects Processor with expression pedal and Sweetwater.

Whole lot of goodies in a small package

By Sweetwater Customer

Ive only spent about 2 hours with this unit and have found alot to like about it. I dont care for the presets that much, Im an old school rock, blues, jazz, rockabilly type. The amount of effects is excellant and I have found the reverbs, delays awesome with decent tweaking. Heck, even the drums onboard will work well enough to keep you moving along with a decent beat, The amp sims are cool as hell even though I run this thru my Tungsten tube amp, there is alot of different tones here! The controls are small but work well, you do have to watch videos to get the jist of this! The looper is really short but its cool anyway, For the price of this, you cannot beat it, Im keeping this and rocking it hard!

Excellent Budget Multi Effect Even for a Higher Budget

By Tommy T. from Silver Spring MD
Music Background: Electronic Music

The Zoom G1X Four is an excellent multi effects processor that can power up to five effects at once. Pretty much everything you could ever need is included here & there are meaningful emulations of some esteemed pieces of gear. I got this for processing synths & guitars. I use it multiple times a week & for the money it just can't be beat. I haven't played with the presets much as they are designed for guitar & I mostly use this to process two Linked Korg Monotribes. I don't know how "true" the emulations are but I am happy getting a variety of different effect tones. I mainly use it for cabinets with various mod effects & the seven band graphic EQ & so far I haven't had any struggles or issues at all. You CAN max out the processor power & I suppose at this price that's just what you get for not spending more money on more expensive computing. Similarly there isn't "room" on the device to house all the potential effects at once. You have to use a software editor to swap in & out what you do & don't want accessible. This limits creativity surely but also makes you commit to certain effects which can be a good thing too. I would potentially gig with this but so far it has just been home studio use & has delivered sonic fun pretty effortlessly. There are both a looper & a drum track that I haven't played around with but based on how well what I've explored is laid out I expect these to be pretty top notch too. I recommend this multi effect to anyone. At this price point it really can't be beat. I had a Line 6 POD X3 Live before & I enjoy this wayyy more. That was convenient for toggling on & off the effects within a patch & for being controlled via MIDI but with this you have such a beautifully small footprint & if you want to toggle a certain effect just copy the patch into the next memory location & make your changes. I'll almost certainly purchase whatever follow up there is to this when it comes out. ANYONE looking for a studio or live solution for multi effects should at least investigate the G1X Four. Also just pay the extra $20 for the expression pedal. Better to not need it & have it than to want it & not have access.

Awesome effects pedal

By Larry M. from Jacksonville, Gl
Music Background: Talented amateur and master of none.

Still learning some of the features but so far l'm enjoying the multitude of sounds and how presets can be "tweaked" and saved. I especially like the rhythm feature. I haven't delved into the loop station yet. I've been having too much fun with the rhythm. Once I become more comfortable with all, I believe it will be my go to unit. I have an Element by Digitech and other stand alone ones but I like this one better. It's not as extensive as a Line 6 but for me it meets my needs.

Not terrible

By Dayn M. from WAYNESBORO, VA
Music Background: Local musician

It's pretty good for your first pedal, but I think most people won't like the tones. Think early line 6 type sounds. I don't regret buying, but just know it's nothing fancy here.

Nice little rig with one drawback

By Keith S. from CEDAR, MI
Music Background: Acoustic and electric guitar, dabbles in bass, keyboard and mandolin.

I'm still learning my way around the features and so far it's been good. The main issue is the absence of a dedicated ON/OFF switch. I picked up a power strip with an on/off switch to use.

Amazing for the price

By Will W. from BETHEL, CT
Music Background: Jazz duo, rock band, home recording

Great sounding effects are the start of why I like this pedal. My spring reverb has replaced my amp's reverb because it's got a better vintage sound (the amp is more ambient) and the few effects I bring in for some songs are so tweak-able that I can always find what I'm looking for. BUT, it's the utility stuff that you shouldn't under rate. The EQ options are great and have really mellowed my sound out, as well as subtle compression. I've set the pedal up to give me just 100-80% volume range, which lets me quickly change my level without worrying about overshooting. Accessing the tuner while standing is easy enough and clear to read, even in the dark, with bad eyes. The amp and cabinet emulation give me the option of plugging into the soundboard if I feel like leaving my amp at home, or if something goes wrong. I don't really use the drum machine, but it sounds pretty good and works with the looper. Editing patches on the computer, with the Zoom software, is very easy.

If there are downsides... First, it's not easy to use without having to stoop down at some point to push a tiny button between songs. And editing on the screen is not fun. The looper also runs for 30 seconds only, which is probably fine for practicing solos or passages, but I can't do a full verse/chorus to practice melodies or layer a song. I wish the limit was much longer. The unit isn't really set up to change more than one effect easily, on the fly. So, if you have songs where you a switching multiple effects during a song, it'll be a tricky little toe dance. The unit is lightweight and plastic, so I worry about the life of the pedals, but it's survived so far.

But, with all the hype around modeling units running the thousands of dollars, I honestly believe this is all the modeling most beginner, hobbyist, or even light gigging musicians would really need. The only people who should pass it by are pedal collectors (no hate, it's fun) and people who are sure they've already got better. For the price of one pedal, you can literally have all of them and a suite of useful tools. No brainer.

"Ever see a Trombone go ZOOM?"

By crazy j. from ventura, ca
Music Background: The Lick's, The Schwag, Dirty Rice, Bobby Keys, Friz Coleman, Ska Daddyz...

So far so good. This is to become a basic effects bank for a slide trombone. Mostly the accompaniment and diffusion options are being tested but we will go through the plethora before too long. The settings are easy to change. You will need to anchor this somehow if playing live/on-stage. I am creating a sweet foot platform for it. It really does add a lot to the ambiance of a normally simple solo and can also help charge a room when the lights go bright. Check back in a month or two if you like and we can update you on the progress with the ZOOMG1XFour. Thanks for the cool tool and the easy purchase and swift delivery process, SWEETWATER! ZOOM G1X FOUR beyond my expectations!

By Pastor J. from Wickliffe IN
Music Background: Playing for my churches and on my front porch for my neighbors for 20yrs.

I got to say this ZOOM G1X FOUR is way more than I expected! I am just an amateur at guitar but I play for churches and other small events and I just wanted to have something that I could practice with a beat and some other music (looper). I am fascinated by all the different styles and sounds this product brings to the table. I am a Hendrix freak and as I told Damian at Sweetwater in Fort Wayne the Jimi Vibe is spot on! I have found that I plan for more time practicing just because this ZOOM G1X FOUR gives me a broader spectrum of styles and sounds, not to mention it has unleashed my imagination to what I truly am capable of playing. Thanks again to Damian and the Fort Wayne IN staff!

Great sounds

By Ken from Arizona
Music Background: My band plays a wide variety of classic rock, blues, country and jazz for snowbirds usually in RV parks

Several nice clean sounds: MatchClean, GlitterCln, Pop chorus. Zep59 is a great crunch sound, and there are many lead sounds to pick from. The drum and looper are super easy to use, and it's easy to tweak the sounds. I've really been enjoying the harmony patches, and set up several different keys.

I do wish the looper would go longer than 30 seconds, but it works for practice. I was concerned about hitting the up and down switches (if you hit both at the same time you're in tuning mode, but so far no problems. The 1,2,3,4,5 illuminated buttons make it easier to get to the patch you're going for. If it holds up for gigging I'll be happy because the price was great!

It's An Ok Pedal For the Money But..(2nd Review).

By Mike P. from Edenton, NC
Music Background: Long Time Player

2nd Review-since the first one only was 3 stars-
Unit has "some" usable patches.
Instead of spending hours hunched over the unit (on the floor) download the Guitar Lab software and make changes on your PC.
(Would have been nice to read this on the SW product page)
After editing the patch on your PC with the software, you have to unplug from your PC and plug back into your PA to check the changes you just made.
Purchase a power supply that SW recommends.
Acoustic sounds are very decent and "chimes" like. No muddiness! (+10)
Plugging in a Les Paul and cycling the first banks (1-10) will find you taking the paint off the ceiling with a few of the patches. (+10)
All in, this purchase was driven by a set of acoustic gigs in the near future. After seeing/hearing the Neural DSP Quad Core, that was and still is the end goal.
Sweetwater's service and shipping, as usual was (+10).
Just wondering if they selectively choose reviews that "paint" an image less than 5.

it's An Ok Pedal For the Money But...

By Mike P. from Edenton, NC
Music Background: Long Time Player

Quad Cortex, Fractal, Kemper-All $ devices-let me try the Zoom G1X FOUR-You Tube videos (curse or blessing?) seemed ok. What I have I got to lose for $?
Bought the extra power supply (+1) Out of the box, the sound of some of the "heavier" amps need to be (absolutely positively) dialed back on the effects chain. One effect is just a long "Boooooooooooom"! Unless you are chugging a one chord death/blood metal song-this is for you-no musicianship required/needed.
Some of the acoustic settings are great, but,(you guessed it) require tweaking. You constantly shifting modes, backing out and then going into edit mode. TAKE NOTES!! Watch some of the You Tube videos.
What the unit doesn't do (as of this writing) is allow you to delete an effect (tremolo) out of a specific chain-it only allows you to turn it off. All information on this device indicated there is software that allows you to hook up to PC/Mac and edit your pre-sets, save them to the last set of "banks" and your good. My unit did not come with any software! The 10 page manual is ok-if you are clairvoyant. The YT vids helped me out more than the manual. No mention of software (Guitar lab) Unit comes with a Looper and a drum pattern machine with 68 patterns. For the back/forth of buttons, remembering to "not" step on both pedals in one mode (it adds a chain/effect you never wanted to save in the first place)
This was purchased for needing something to add to my acoustic gigs. I did plug my Les Paul into it-the first set of banks (1-10) were sufficient (although as stated earlier need tweaking)
For an acoustic gig it should suffice. If you are "button happy" and like pressing them-this is the unit for you.

3 stars! It's cumbersome (at least for me)

Great effects - terrible expression pedal

By Marc D. from NYC
Music Background: Full time guitarist - performer, teacher, over 50 years

I use the pedal for volume control - it isn't universal, meaning, as you scroll through patches, you need to re-engage and reset your volume for each one, resulting in a lot of squealing as you pass through hi-gain effects. The actual effects can be sculpted to get some beautiful sounds though. Get the basic version and use your own vol pedal.

Incredible

By Timothy H. from Maurertown, VA
Music Background: Worship Guitarist

I have replaced my pedal board with one G1X Four. I would have been left wondering if I hadn't purchased the G1 Four without the expression pedal unit. While I don't really use it other than volume control while playing on the worship team at church it is fun to try new things. However, I could have done without the expression pedal.
As you can see below, my pros outweigh my cons.

Pros:
* Can plug in headphones and practice.
* Drum machine and metronome.
* Looper
* Ability to create your own patches. (Up to 5 pedal, cabinet, amp slots)
* Ability to use as a pedal board (Up to 5 pedal, cabinet, amp slots)
* Battery powered or 9V pedal board power.
* Lots of pedal, cabinet, amp options available.
* Ability to use Guitar Lab and connect a PC to the unit to make changes and setup easier.

Cons: (More like wishful features)
* I wish that you could save a rhythm (drum machine) setup in a patch. That way you could select the patch and have the drum machine start up. This would be great for solo artists or buskers.
* I wish that there was a separate headphone output that could be used to monitor your output. Have this in the settings to be used as headphone with silent output or headphone for monitoring your signal.
* I wish the memory was there to keep all slot options on the unit instead of having to decide what you want and not want installed.

Blown Away

By Gabe R. from Twin Falls
Music Background: Beginner/Intermediate

The zoom g1x four was more than what I could've asked for. Not only do you get killer presets and effects, but you can also control the timing on delay, how much fuzz you prefer, and how much speed you want on certain effects. Also, when building another pedal, you can combine up to five different effects. Not to mention the different drum tracks you can use and the looper for practice. This was definitely a purchase I will not regret. Also, shout out to Chris Shura for amazing costumer service. Not only did he call me to let me know my purchase was on the way, but he also text me a few days later to make sure I received my product. I will definitely continue to buy my music gear from Sweetwater.

Does a nice simple job.

By Dennis from Knoxville
Music Background: Experienced and getting old

I was tired of buying large expensive multi-pedals with 300-600 voices/patches and I would use 10 of them. I don't enjoy fiddling with stuff during our worship music at church so with this I came up with 3 cleans, 2 dirty, 1 cream, and 1 or 2 pads with swell. This is small and quiet. I thought I would be using this in pedal mode but tweaked presets are fine. The tonal variations with single/double coil are nice and usable.

Nice for practice. Noise gate works great!

By Bo O. from Watseka, IL
Music Background: Djentist

I gave this 5 stars based on the features you get for the price and that the noise gate is actually really good.
Comes with a looper and drum patters witch have basic functionality but work well for practicing. It's easy enough to figure out and has plenty of effects to play with. For the price it's a nice little unit. It'll get me by until I can afford a Fractal.

Wow.

By Heath E. from Longview, TX
Music Background: All type metal active guitarist/musician, songwriter and live and home studio recording. and

Loads of features and sound for a budgeting musician. Small and very portable. Used the software to create patches that matched my others on my main pedal board and now use this for my local bar style gigs instead of hauling a massive setup. We shall see how well it holds up to field use, but I'm already ready to get another if it lasts pretty good.

Great pedal with loads of effects and even more customization options with the Zoom Guitar Lab software. Had the B1X Four (the bass version of this) for a couple months and just had to get the guitar one as well. Just Enough

By T.S.J
Music Background: Gypzy

I haven't had a lot of time to play with it in depth yet, but so far the tuner, wah, and looper are awesome, the rest is pretty much clutter and sub menu hell, and the drum patterns are useless and pointless, without a fill feature. Some nice sounds, some garbage ones, and for some reason the 1/4 inch plug from my keyboard wont power it, which is annoying. Would love to loop my synth tracks. Oh well, for the price, it'll do.

Very Digital/Good or Not as Good

By Lonnie C. from TACOMA, WA
Music Background: Just an aging punk rocker trying to love life. Jammed too loud and gigged for 10 or so years.

Has a lot of great options and tones to be found but to me they needed some time to take to find them. A ton of tweak-ability. Almost too much for me. The expression pedal is great, especially with it being assignable. But again that takes some time to get it where you want it. For the price I think it's a great deal. Especially for people just trying to get into an affordable multi FX. There are a lot of user menus and fine tuning parameter menus to deal with but again for the price if you don't mind taking the time there is a lot to offer. The Cab sims are cool and can be heavy and responsive. The delays can be short or forever. The mods like phaser and flanger are totally spacious as well. You can dive as shallow or deep as you would want your reverbs to be. Just with digital... better to take some time. To me worth the price of play. Seems pretty well built for plastic, but not long term gig worthy by any means in my mind. Drum machine's totally cool for basic jam along rhythms, better than a Zoom I had years ago, but still basic. Play It! Have Fun!

Hard to beat at this price point.

By Tim from Ohio
Music Background: Guitar and amp tech for 50 years more than a player. I am bad about practicing!

I bought a used Russian guitar and thought "Why not buy a cheap effects box to feed into my Marshall tube amp?" I was surprised by both purchases, but especially this Zoom box!!! Easy to use. A LOT of effects and adjustments. Fairly quiet. A lot of "boingy" effects that I'll never use, but a lot that are useful and good. The as-received volume levels between effects is very wide but volume is programmable. I've had fun running G&L, Fender, Jackson, Ovation and even a Ural through it with single, humbucker and piezo pickups. I have a Zoom delay effects pedal and must say...Another good job, Zoom!

quick practice must have !

By michael from washington DC
Music Background: guitarist, wanta be producer :)

I had the need for a quick practice multieffects pedal that would not break the bank. I did a good bit of research and found the Zoom G1X Four :) The presets are fine for first use, but after some minor tweeking, now they are sweeeeet ! plenty of clean, dirt and crunch, and yes metal tones to work with. The built in assignable expression pedal work without flaw, and can be set to an array of parameters. It also has downloadable software manager from zoom. This allows you to do all the editing and patch building without slaving over a pedal. (Two) last but not least, a 30 second built in looper, and drum patches to choose from. Pick a beat, pick your guitar sound, and start a loop. Practice must have !!!!

Needs some tweeking but then - WOW

By JS from Eveleth MN
Music Background: 50 year 4 and 6 string veteran

I really enjoy the technology put into inexpensive multi-effects. When I received this I was using my Jackson with hot pickups so I realized when they set these things up they must use possibly a single coil to Taylor the presets. None of the presets really stood out until they went to the toned Library forum and downloaded a jcm800 with a tube screamer preset. Now I think it's the best sound I've ever heard for 20 years out of the multi-effect box. I like the chunkiness of palm muting in this delivers. Absolutely fantastic. I love the Looper the way of quantities what you're playing to where it's in time with the drums. I can't say enough good about this device and zoom products. Give it a try and I think you'll be convinced and I am a well-seasoned musician. Rock on

Great tones, easy to program, compact and cool

By Brett m.

This has turned out to be my favorite pedal. I bought this mainly to use as an interface between my guitar and Zoom H4n pro recorder, which I use as a headphone amp and recorder. It works great. I get all the tone effects I could dream of going into my headphones. I use it as my main effects pedal when playing through my amps too. Once again Taylor Perry comes through at Sweetwater Music.

ZOOM Does it again !!!

By Blues G. from Upcountry Maui
Music Background: Professional Guitarist // Vocalist

The Zoom G1X Four is an improvement over it's G1Xon predecessor in several aspects of it's design BUT both are great multi-effect looper preamps !
I own both & am glad have them both as they both work wonders with well-programed patches, easy-to-use looper & rhythm functions. To my ears, the FOUR has better presence & resonance in it's sound & is more logical in it's design while the G1Xon has lots usable presets that are not on the FOUR to add to the palette of sounds at your choice.
So, in my music, I love the luxury of having them to compliment & back up each other !!!

This is NOT a toy

By Sweetwater Customer

I couldn't resist the price even if it was a toy, but it is not. There are several presets that are really good. This is good enough to serve as a fly rig.

I purchased this for a friend (I already own a G1Xon and will be upgrading to this myself). He's very very happy with the pedal in it's sound, function and portability and has stopped using all his old stomps altogether.

Battery operated effects

By Brian J. from FL
Music Background: 40 years acoustic singer song writer

So it serves the purpose of which I bought it. To have some effects and the ability to loop. Wish the looper was a little longer but when I'm buskin it's the ticket. For gigging indoors I loop with my voice live 3. My guitar is a Taylor 814cs V class DLX.

Problem with expression pedal used for volume

By Marc D. from NY City
Music Background: Full time professional musician - since late 1970s

I've owned and loved approximately a dozen Zoom devices - starting with the original 9002 processor. I'm tempted to rate the G1Xfour as 5 stars EXCEPT for one deal breaking feature. As you scroll thru patches, each new patch cones in at full volume, regardless where you have the pedal. You have to move the pedal to re-engage it for each patch. No problem for casual jams, but disastrous for coming it at the right time/right volume in an arranged band or show situation. Otherwise, I've created amazing sounds with this thing. Guess I need to start hauling an external volume pedal

Zoom G1X FOUR

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Many years of guitar playing

Lots of bang for the bucks..... technical data slim, buy available on-line.

Some great unique sounds, some similar to others.

Lots of options, variables.....and like any electronic device with so many options, it will take time to master.

But again, a great deal for the money. Check out the current prices of most pedals. Sticker shock.

Good all around pedal for the price

By Jeremy L. from OH

Having not played for almost a decade coming back into the music world is a little confusing with all the new processors effects ect while they are still for the most part the same the packaging is different and a little more complex in the understanding of how they function but this pedal set up is a good beginner for someone such as myself who has been out of the world for quite awhile

Zoom G1X Four

By David C. from Kansas
Music Background: Experienced Guitar Player

I was surprised at how quickly I received this from Sweetwater, again their service is outstanding. This pedal surpassed my expectations and for the modest price every guitarist should have one before buying any other pedal as I have found it has replaced most of the pedals I have used when playing. You cannot go wrong with purchasing this pedal. I love it.

Good for the money

By Sweetwater Customer from PA

This unit makes a great travel practice rig, having battery power and a headphone output make it work really well for this. I also like to just leave it in the FX loop of my amp so I can either use amp sims in the clean channel or effects in the dirt channels.

Some of the sounds are quite good for example the 1959 marshall works well for me as a mid gain sound.

There is a good variety of amp sims, it covers a lot of ground from clean tones through to roaring high gain. At 13 models they aren't as comprehensive as line 6 or fractal but they cover all the bases reasonably well.

Five effects (and in my experience no issue with running out of DSP with any combination) can be a bit tight but works pretty well for the most part. It allows for example a tube screamer, an amp and cab sim, a noise gate and one modulation effect or delay / reverb. If you omit the amp/cab sim it's plenty.

There are a couple of annoyances. There is no way to change the unit from instrument to line level. It appears it's set to instrument level (e.g. for use in front of an amp or in a loop but not direct in to something that wants a line input).

The cab sims all have a "mic" that needs to be switched on for the cab sim to do anything. So if you see a cab sim turned "on", the mic setting could be turned "off" in which case it isn't doing anything. This setting is per-patch, it would be nice if it was global instead (because it would be set differently depending on what it was plugged into). It's confusing to have a cab sim "on" but not doing anything.

Because it's a cheaper unit there are some other quirks. The interface is a little fiddly (on the fly global EQ and volume, most other things require some menu dive).

Pro:
very inexpensive.
runs on batteries, can also power it with a cellphone charger.
very flexible (5 effects in any order)
decent variety of effects and sounds

Con:
doesn't ship with a power supply
interface for turning on/off cab sim is clumsy and confusing
no line level out

Massive fun-factor - Easy to use - Affordable - The perfect "first guitar pedal" for beginners

By The I. from Big D
Music Background: Professional Amateur :-)

For several years now, my pedalboard has had only ONE guitar "FX" pedal. First it was the G1Xon. Now it's the G1Xfour. I play both acoustic AND electric thru the pedal, and they BOTH sound great! Though I've played for over 40 years, I'm not a professional musician and rarely play out; but I do play a lot at home and IMO this is the best VALUE "name brand" guitar multi-FX pedal on the market. It's super affordable, very easy to use, sounds terrific, and is a total blast to play. In fact, this is the FIRST of TWO guitar pedals I recommend for every novice guitarist. Checkout my video links below for a quick start on G1Xfour pedal, and why it's one of the two first pedals I recommend.

For the money, this pedal is loaded and with the downloadable software even more doors are opened. The rhythm section is a blast to play with and the looper tops it off. For those who want a switch, buy an LED strip inline switch and you are good to go!

Here is the break down of this unit

By JB B. from North Carolina
Music Background: Been playing since 1991

To start with. I like this devise. It's an upgrade from my ZOOM 505. It packs alot of newer sounds. It has the capabilities of adding more. It's priced well for what is available to the musician. It seem well made and is of sturdy plastic. The onboard effects have a real, un-robotic sound like some previous unit have had in the past. Technology has come a long way in these pedals.
-Now some things I wished it had.-
With the G1X, G1X4,G3,G5 and the G11. There is no mini SD slot for adding more memory. Once I plugged the G1X4 to the ZOOM app, Guitar Lab. I was surprised that the on-board memory was maxed out to 1000%. The unit from the box had 30 patches with per-programmed effects with 10 open for the new creations. I really didn't like some of the patches so I delete them to free up some room on-board. Getting around on this unit, it's better to go onto the App and adjust things there, it's alot easier than trying to fiddle with the small dials and the small LCD screen on the unit.
On the app I was really surprised to find there are no user patches for the G1X or the G1X4. There's plenty for the G3, G5 and the G11. Since my unit was maxed out from the factory on memory, I had to also delete some unused effects to add room for other effect I might like from the App.
-More thoughts on this unit- If you're a person who likes Hard Rock, Metal, Heavy Dist, Dirty sounds. Than this unit is perfect. There's more Amps and Cabinet effect for this type of playing in this devise and the App. Clean effects are there, but I feel not as much as I would like. I don't play the hard sounds. But unless there is endless effects to add, the Makers can't appeal to the masses in every area. But with all that said. This unit still has alot to offer. It has about 60 drums beats and a Looper and turner. I play Gospel and the clean Effects offered will be fine. I think this unit will be great for those at home kicking or just want for a small home studio.
So the final question you might ask. Is this unit worth it? My answer is YES. No bull either. It's going to fit my bill fine. I hope someone gets the answers they need form my view on this unit.

The G1X FOUR

By Tim from Ypsilanti, MI

I would recommend this multi-effects processor to any beginner who, like myself, wants to use effects but would benefit from learning more about them. It is more than just a box of presets. The G1X FOUR allows you to explore the individual effects that produce a specific sound. It also lets you tweak a patch or alter it all together. A great first stomp box and practice tool.

I had the Zoom MS-50G, but had to replace it when I accidentally broke it :(. I decided to go with G1XFour w/ X Pedal...love it! Sturdy, packed with a lot of pedals and patches, easy and fun to use. Simple rhythm tracks are included, along with a 30 sec looper (I haven't played with that yet). So far, so good!! And thanks Mike Defraties, and SW for the quick shipping and service. G1X FOUR W/EXPRESSION PEDAL

By David L. from Ohio

Sweetwater had me Rockin' in minutes with this awesome pedal from ZOOM. Its versitile and the effects sound great! Add a Rythym to a loop and away you go,soloing and adding infinite over-dubs. Its great for practice at home or whereever you need quality sound and options.Everything has adjustments for Sound,Tempo,Loops and a built in tuner. Add an external audio device and Jam to that if you want. It has an empty bank to create your favorite patches linking up to five effects each and the built in effects are cool and get you going fast. So if you are hooking up to an amp, mixer, cellphone, laptop or other audio interface this pedal has you covered. Guitar Lab is easy to use and intuitive. All adjustments are a click away and best of all its fun to use. Sweetwater is amazing!

Great value

By Rob from Dayton, Ohio

A great value, you get a lot of fantastic sounding effects for very little money. When I first got it, I tried it out with headphones and wasn't thrilled with the preset sounds (overdrive was too brittle) but once I figured out how to turn on the mic emulator (Edit the cab) I was very impressed. And I like that you can adjust the microphone placement. The noise reduction pedal is great, all of the effects sound great and are highly customizable. The only thing missing is a rotary speaker emulator (maybe I just need to play with the vibrato effect some more?) Anyway, they pack a helluva lot into a small package for a very low price. It sounds good through my amp but I'm also going to use it for recording directly into my computer. Definitely worth the money!

Great Multi-Effects Pedal at an Extremely Affordable Price

By Erik from Colorado
Music Background: Guitarist/vocalist on and off for 14 years

I love how much you can do with this pedal, especially at this price-point. Tone is not sacrificed and the expression pedal is an awesome addition. This is small enough to easily fit in the outer pouch of my case (Gator soft/hard-shell case) with plenty of room for other accessories. Bottom line: it sounds great, has a looper, metronome/drum loops, tuner (I still use my Snark but still cool to have), allows for endless possibilities while creating effects, expression pedal, and above all, it sounds good.Thank you Bobby Yeager for helping find this sweet little pedal.

By Sweetwater Customer

So far it has enough to get me started. I've played clean except for a compressor for decades. I'm experimenting with it. Seems well laid out to use. I gave it 4.5 starts, would give it a 5 if it had a on/off switch.

Zoom G1X Four

By Ty M. from Illinois
Music Background: None

I am an old dog trying to learn new tricks. A complete novice. Sweetwater has made the attempt far easier than I could have imagined. This effects pedal affords me the opportunity to sound more proficient than I am. That is a nice break from the frustrations of beginning guitar. I am certain that as I improve this pedal will do more than I can envision. I love all 3 elements of my setup.

Zoom G1X Four

By Bill H. from Conroe, Texas

This little box gives a lot of effects options. You are only limited by your creativity. As a hobby guitar player, it saves me space over a board full of pedals. The only improvement that I could suggest would be to have the rhythm circuit before the looper so the patterns could be added to loops. Overall, a lot of tools for a budget price.

Meh!

By bgl from Pittsburgh
Music Background: Highly trained multi-instrumentalist

The good part: The sounds are definitely usable.
The bad part: The effects are limited, and the effects parameters are also limited.

Yes, I’m spoiled by using really good multi-effects processors. I regularly use Boss SY-300 and Boss GT-1.
The G1X Four has many useable effects like compressor, chorus, delay, reverb. I don’t use amp modeling so I can’t compare those effects.

I rate the processor with 2.5 stars because even with its limitations, it sure is inexpensive.

Wasn't really sure about what it would have on it, but it has a lot of options, most of which I don't really know how to optimize. individual pedals don't have a description, but the memory mode is pretty solid.

Zoom G1X Four in the eyes of a bedroom guitar player

By Dylan G. from FL
Music Background: Beginner/Intermediate self taught guitar player

I love this thing, I can get an absolutely CRUSHING distortion tone with this and a sparkling clean tone, it sounds great, however, take this review with a grain of salt as I've never used any other guitar pedals.

The reason I am rating this only a 4.5 star is because when I got it there was an extra piece of foam under the expression pedal that prevented me from pushing the toggle button under the pedal, this isn't a big problem but, it is when you don't know how it's supposed to work it was a bit frustrating not being able to quickly toggle the expression pedal, the solution was literally just to take the extra piece of foam off, but I used this pedal for a good six months without needing that button.

TL:DR, My unit had an extra piece of foam that limited its functionality, but I still used it for six months with no problem, I LOVE IT

Frustrated new owner of the Zoom G1X Four

By MURRAY B. from ABILENE, TEXAS
Music Background: INTERMEDIATE GUITAR

1. Don't try to program the Zoom G1X4 without downloading and running the Zoom Guitar Lab application software.
2. Guitar Lab is a very simple, easy to use, and necessary application to program the G1X4.
2. There is no way to delete Effects from the Patches without Guitar Lab connected to the Zoom in the PC Mode.
3. There is no power switch. No way to turn power off the Zoom G1X4 without taking the batteries out of the case or unplugging the adapter or USB port. Don't waste time trying how to figure out how to turn in off with the buttons and switches available.
4. Again, don't waste time trying to learn how to program the Zoom using the useless and confusing Reference Guide. It is frustrating as H_ _ _. Use Guitar Lab. This advice should have been printed in bold type in the sales literature; and conveyed by the sales persons at Sweetwater during purchase.
5. The G1X4 appears to be a very good device. Don't give up; follow the above advice.

Cool usable programs. Haven't gotten into tweaking the prameters yet though. Music Background: Bass player for too many years, guitar player ,not long enough !

Overall it's a great basic pedal . Sturdy for being plastic . Just a quick start manual included , I went to youtube to find out how to program slots 50-59 . I'm sure you can get more info on their web site . What I would have liked is a way to save at least 20 loops or backing tracks . I haven't tried downloading any new effects yet , I'm still playing around with what is in the pedal .

Great pedal

By Kevin from Atlanta

Zoom has finally built the multi-effects pedal that I have been wanting and at a great price. There are a decent variety of effects available and it is easy to relocate them in the chain if needed. They have incorporated the ability to turn off individual effects via separate finger press buttons on the unit or by using the two foot switches, this is a real game changer for me in a pedal this size and price. Since I purchased this pedal for short set gigs and easy travel (when my normal large pedal board is too much) it does what I need and with batteries too for quick plug and play. I will use this into an amp so the amp simulations are not as important to me as they might be to some players. The quality of the effects is of course not as high as individual pedals that most of us have in our large pedal boards and I would not expect it to be. The drum patterns are a plus for practicing and less boring that just a metronome click. The included looper and volume/expression pedal round out a great little package.

G1x4

By Stud l.

I received the zoom pedal earlier than expected even though it was to arrive later than and Their support staff is amazing they checked on me to make sure I receive my package and offered any assistance that was really cool. With their Reassurance I know that they always be there to help. Now for the pedal, Man that"s a really cool processor the pre-Sets are great just as is Playing through your amp on clean or run through your rack mount front end stage monitors either way it"s really authentic sounding. For programming ,I just chose an empty bank it was easy to select different effect pedals and to program my own patches and you too will find you can really create cool soundsAnd with The built-in rhythm tracks and Looper ,you too can rock and sound just like anyone playing on a Marshall, rack etc or any amp literally!! . Great product but I only give it 4.5 stars because I Don"t know what a 5.0 star processor would sound like? actual music artist playing it for you.?

Amazing value

By Sweetwater Customer

I use this for quiet practice and it excels at that. The guitar amps and effects sound better than I expected. The rhythm/looper works well enough to make practice fun. But, don't expect excellent sounding drums.
If I had to split hairs, I would prefer more beats and variety of drum sounds. For instance, a couple different 5/4s and more metal beats would be nice.
By the way, I recommend this over the Zoom G1. It's basically the same size and weight as the G1 but is easier and more fun to use due to a bigger screen and dedicated knobs.

Good effects at a good price

By Bil from Los Angeles
Music Background: Played guitar but not much last 10 years. Picked up mandolin 4 years ago and love it.

NOTE: I have only played around with this for about 6 hours.

I play mandolin through this - I was looking for an analog delay, phaser, chorus, and equalizer pedals but that sounded costly just for testing. This pedal had what I was looking for at a good price. This pedal has sufficient effects, I even found that the amp choices gave me a bit different sound to use.

PROS: Easy to use. Good set up and saving features. Easy to see display. All effects have adjustment options that seem good. Tuner works good. Rhythm option works well - comes in loud so you have to fiddle around with the controls to balance the sound. Haven't tried the looper yet, so no comment. Love the Acoustic Sim as well.

CONS: Not a big range on the expression pedal but good enough for effects. Some effects once toggled increase the volume too much for the effect - maybe for guitar purposes, not sure why. Plastic but seems very durable. Saving and deleting was confusing at first but maybe that was me not being used to multi pedals.

More good than bad with this Pedal and I love it. I'm sure if your a guitar player you would not be disappointed especially for the price. Great pedal for beginners and amateurs - until you find your sounds then you may want to specialize. I'm building a Tele and cant wait to test and go through this pedal.
