Exceptional Fuzz Face!

By B. Tice from Shreveport, LA. on December 13, 2023 Music Background: Guitarist for 46 years.

I've owned many Fuzz pedals and all are great in their own right, however most of them are limited to the one special thing they do. This pedal separates itself from the others in this regard. It's clean tones are fantastic, the edgy tone's between clean and full Fuzz are fantastic as well. The full blown Fuzz tones is so nice and warm (think Cream). This is the pedal that kicked my BC 108 Fuzz Face off my board. It's that good and useful!

Kudos to Dunlop for their line of Fuzz Face Minis!

Dunlop's series of pedal-board-friendly-sized Fuzz Faces give players a selection of several historic iterations of this, arguably the greatest, of all guitar pedals. I chose the Germanium FFM2 because of it's old-school flavor. It'll change from a dangerous-sounding spitting and splattering to a warm, pleasant grunge, with the turn of your guitar's volume knob. Placing it early in the pedal chain is important, but it plays well with the pedals ahead of it. Love it!

Everything you'd expect out of a Ge Fuzz.

First the bad: Bit of excess glue on the edges of the rubber stomp pad. The light on it is annoyingly bright.

The good: Only tested this with my offset mustang with 60s style strat pickups, Laney 10w tube amp set to max gain. Volume and gain slightly backed off from max on the fuzzface. Volume knob on the guitar goes from clean to dirty to fuzz, and the clean tones/mild over drive tones are beautiful. Warm, lush, articulate. Retains the quality of the strings and individual notes very well. Very dynamic. Fuzz is amazing classic fuzz. Not much to say here, you've heard this sound before. Stacks very well in front of the dude. That combo can get pretty savage. Stacks well in front of Julia. Have only operated it on battery thus far, was expecting this pedal to add a lot of noise but that is not the case. Less noisy than my other drive pedals (on battery at least).

With guitar vol maxed on the neck pick up, the fuzz almost becomes muddy, but doesn't get there on my guitar. I suspect it might not be a good pairing for a darker setup.

Recommend for classic fuzz tones/colorful clean and overdrive tones on low output single coils.

And of course, Sweetwater's service impeccable as always.

very happy

I have a silicon fuzz pedal from another manufacturer and its harsh, shrilly, "plasticky" tone sounds terrible and is not usable. It was a waste of money and it will never be on my board. Unlike that other manufacturer"s pedal, I am able to dial in a good sound with this germanium FFM2. A little bit of tinkering with the knobs was required to get there. It's not all good. A good sound with a fuzz pedal isn't automatic. I've learned that the guitar"s volume is rolled back most of the time when using a fuzz pedal, except for lead stuff. It is amazing how rolling back the guitar volume changes the dynamics. The gear nuts say that this germanium pedal is strong in the midrange. To me, strong mids is always a good thing. I boost the high end just a tad with a GE-7 and it sounds like a million bucks! My strat + medium gain tube amp + GE-7 + the FFM2 = heaven!! I was after that Billy G fuzz sound and I found it with this pedal. Adding chorus into the mix will help nail his Sam and Dave cover and Pearl Necklace killer leads. I think that this is the first time that I've ever given a product five stars.

Great Germanium Fuzz

Great little pedal. Work, organic fuzz sound.

Just Right

By Doug Rickert from Duluth, Georgia on March 28, 2015 Music Background: Owner and engineer at Nothing But You Music

Its just what I needed and wanted for my rig, a great big hairy sound that responds extremely well to backing off volume or pic, or to digging in hard. Seems to be extremely solid in construction with a very smooth feel to the controls. I like to just crank it up!

2 in 1

When you want the fuzziest fuzz and the cleanest fuzz ( -vol. knob ), this is the one to pick. It's like Wolfmother plus Eric Johnson.

Exceptional Value and brilliant tone

By Joe from Cleveland, OH on January 3, 2015

Really needed a fuzz this year. I had the Bonamassa fuzz earlier this year, but was not high gain enough. This germanium mini fuzz really did it for me - running it through a Fender DRRI. Yes, they can be a challenge to dial in.

You have to work the amp's volume/treb/bass and the tone controls of your guitar to get the fuzz sound you are seeking. Once I did that, I achieved some brilliant tones, from Hendrix to Bill Gibbons. Yes, it can work with humbuckers, but will take some more tweaking to ensure it doesn't get to mid-rangy or lost in a band mix. With a strat, it's a dream combination. Cleans up very well with guitar's volume knob, with some color to the clean tone that adds a little something to the tone.

For the price and the pedal board space, this is a no-brainer. I am exceptionally pleased with this pedal and Sweetwater's customer service. Great value. Dunlop really delivered with this little wonder.

Just got it

By Mike Bullard from Ca. USA on July 21, 2013 Music Background: Live sound engineer, G player for 30 years, singer, front man, tone seaker..........

Ok, just got it. Plugged it into my marshall 80's JMC800 on the crunch channel. (Gain - 2, Vol -7, trb mid bass - 6, master - 7) using my Les Paul. Set the pedal @ Vol - 2:00, Fuzz - 2:00. IT RIPS!!!....... The control over the Volume is to die for, I set the GTR vol@ 5 and got a very warm crunch with hard strumming. But let up on the strings and it gets Big clean tones... Very expressive!! Turn the vol up and hold on!! This is what I've been lookin for, to get all those classic tones, and to put me in the Bonamassa vibe!!!.... Can't wait to plug in the Strat and tele!...
Big sound in a little space... Get this one!!

Fuzzface mini - Geranium

By Robert from OH on January 7, 2021

Most days of the week I prefer my old JH 1 Fuzz I dug out from the depths of the basement but that said, the mini Geranium is smaller and takes much less space and no 9v batteries. I love the sound, and like my JH 1 Fuzz it's very responsive to your guitar's volume to dial in just the right amount. Beyond that I'm not sure what else to say...it it's a great fuzz pedal in a smaller shell and I would give it 4 and a half stars. Not sure why I'm taking half a star, I guess just because I like the sound of the old Hendrix turquoise face just a little bit more. But that's on a Fender champion amp, maybe it will like my Marshall dsl5 that I just ordered a little better.

Great classic fuzz

By Terence King from New York, NY on December 3, 2018

This is a simple pedal that makes a great, classic fuzz sound. Two knobs, volume and fuzz. Couldn't be simpler. If this is the sound you want, this is the pedal you need.

It's awesome!

My Girlfriend suprised me with one of these and I am blown away. Pink Floyd in a "face."

Sound good but, poor quality.

By Ken Roxburgh from Stafford Va on January 13, 2022 Music Background: Guitars, Drums

Designed poorly. Cheaply made and virtually thrown together. Battery door is thin plastic, loosely fitted and falls off. Dunlop can't provide a replacement part. Look elsewhere or waste your money.

I hate this thing.

By Michael Hill from Jefferson, NC on November 6, 2021

It's more than just finnicky, I had to open it up to get it to be even manageable and even now at the absolute lowest setting it's still completely overwhelming. I expected them to be unwieldy, everyone describes them that way but honestly it's probably the only pedal I have ever completely regretted purchasing.
