Great Twelve String plays well

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Pro guitarist and singer, published writer and Pro Tools guy!

This is my first D'Angelico instrument. The price-point value of the guitar was only secondary to the beautiful art work that it represents. And then lastly the utility: I needed a twelve string for recording special parts of my music which are sometimes filled by mandolin, with it's time little fret boards. For a twelve string the width of the neck and the thickness of it fills my hand nicely and not in any way painfully as many other twelve strings I've played or owned. The satin finish is perfect and smooth, the ornate head stock making it noticeable and unique for sure. I ordered a nice Gator case for it and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Let's not leave out the great sounding pickup and on-board tuner which work perfectly! I must say though I get up in the morning and pour a nice cup of coffee and sit in the kitchen with my wonderful new twelve string friend unplugged and she sounds like a dream, inspiring me with every chord. My Sweetwater salesman Todd always takes good care of my purchases and follows up after the delivery. That's why I keep coming back is personal service and care of the customers. D'Angelico and Sweetwater have got it going on!

Truly Impressed

By Kirk H. from DENVER, CO
Music Background: Professional

Small issues that I wouldn't have with a Taylor or any higher price guitar. The high E string was flat at 12-14 fret. But playability is great and the tone is decent but a little too much treble for me. The electrics are entry level. I'm replacing the nut, saddle and pins from plastic to bone as I write this and I think those three inexpensive upgrades will be well worth it. I got a lot of confusion about what the top is made of and what country it's assembled online. I think it's because the Premier Fulton is and mine is the Premier Fulton LS . But I think the top is solid mahogany along with the sides and back. I still don't know where it's built. Inside the sound hole it doesn't say anything about a country.

D'angelico 12 string guitar

By Robert K.
Music Background: I just play the guitar for myself

I am on my second guitar. The first one was replaced because the neck started collapsing the body. It was replaced under warranty but now the guitar that I received after about a year is starting to do the same thing. I would not recommend this guitar to anyone.

D angélico premier Fulton 12 string

By Angel r. from Tacoma, WA
Music Background: Corridos tumbados

Beautiful guitar. This guitar changed my life. For somebody who only plays Corridos Tumbados which is Mexican music. This guitar is so bright sounding it's so clean in a way when u play it, the appearance of the guitar is clean and the headstock gives it away and the looks. Beautiful headstock the tuning pegs are also pretty cool looking and unique. I also like the color I chose of the mahogany stain is a really nice looking color. When the guitar reflects off the sun, it gives a nice glow. Overall this guitar is 4 absolute perfect guitar for the price and I don't have a single problem with it

A Great 12-String Guitar

By DAVE P. from WILLITS, CA
Music Background: Gigging Professional

I have been playing finger-style 12-string guitar since 1974. I've owned a few including a 1974 Takamine F400, and a 1982 Taylor 555. I lost my home, and everything in it, to fire. Positive reviews of this, very modestly priced, guitar by other experienced players sparked my interest. I have to watch my pennies these days. I include this information so that the reader has some context to my assessment of this guitar. I will also say that this is the least expensive acoustic guitar I have purchased since the mid 1970's. I was worried that I might be buying a "toy". I worried needlessly.

It took two tries to get this guitar. The first one arrived with the headstock snapped off, despite the packaging showing little damage. Sweetwater's outstanding customer service had a replacement on the way before the ink was dry on my return shipping label.
Okay. To the guitar...

Handle with care. The neck is beautifully slim and very comfortable, but if this thing gets knocked over the headstock is likely to snap off. It ships with 10/47 gage strings. I don't think it will tolerate heavier strings. Besides, I don't think you'll need them.

Playability: Out of the box the neck relief was good, but the action at fret 12 was well outside spec's. Applying some sandpaper and elbow-grease to the saddle at the workbench fixed that nicely. String spacing and neck width is comfortable.

Tuning Stability: This can be a real issue with 12-string guitars. I've been playing this guitar for about about 5 days now. Once it settled in after the saddle work and retuning, it has been remarkably stable, at least as stable as my quality 6-string guitars.

Tone: Initially a bit "tubby" from the player's listening position. This has warmed up a bit over the past 5 days, but then, maybe it's just that my ears have "gotten used to it". The guitar projects very well. I love the fidelity of this guitar. 12-strings can easily sound muddy. This one has great clarity, and the sustain is phenomenal! The harmonics ring and ring so sweetly.

Electronics: No issues. Fairly natural sounding through my PA's. Tone controls are effective.

Hardware: No issues with the machines (tuning pegs). Built in electronic tuner is accurate and easily readable. No guesswork. A very helpful feature.

Appearance: It does look a bit "toy-like". I really dig the "Art Deco" vibe of the headstock and tuning pegs. The bridge is a bit beefy and blocky but it does the job well, and its angular character fits the Art Deco vibe.

In all the ways that matter, this is a great 12-String guitar.

What a pleasant surprise

By Russ E. from California
Music Background: over 60 years playing stringed instruments

the D'Angelico arrived on time and well packed. It stays in tune quite well and sounds rich and multidimensional. The electronics are easy to use and are able to provide a broad range of tonal settings. I had owned another brand 12 string years ago and this is far more playable than that one. The finish is perfect. The neck need no adjustment and the frets feel very good. I've put a new tool in the kit.

Best 12 string for the price

By Rich S. from Mississippi River valley west central Illinois
Music Background: 30 year amateur, local musician, mostly electric guitar 70s 80s 90s 2000s etc.

Whoa where did this guitar come from and how are they selling it for that price. Easily a 400 to 500 dollar guitar. Opening the box the guitar itself is beautiful and appealing to the eye. I got the mahogany color which looks great. Not a huge fan of the matte finish on any guitar but it works on this one. The action is about as low as it could possibly be which was also a pleasant surprise. Comes with a 9 volt battery. Tuner is great sounds great plugged in. Headstock has the unique design and the binding for the headstock does a great job setting it off. Tuners are a bit big but work as intended. Chrome truss rod cover just adds to the appeal. Wad horribly out of tune but came right in. Slim neck. Plays and sounds wonderful. I still can't believe it's only 250 dollars. Before I bought it I researched the company. It's an American made guitar which I liked. More famous for their arch top hollowbody guitars bur they hit a home run. And who doesn't like to see made in new York on it. My only complaint is I bought a case with it and they shipped them separately instead of putting it in the case which I requested at the time of purchase. But it made it either way with out damage. Do not pass this brand up....I might check put the 6 string acoustic ss they also have good reviews.

Very nice budget guitar.

By Ted M. from ADDISON, IL

I fell in love with the classic D'Angelico headstock. The sound of this guitar is very clean. I love playing it. It has a very accurate digital tuner and I find that the machine heads are extremely smooth and make tuning precise and easy.

I don't think you can go wrong with this axe for the price.

Eh…maybe not worth it

By Meg from POTTSTOWN, PA

I waited months for this guitar on back order. At the time, I was debating between this one and a Luna that was similar in price but also on b/o. Ultimately decided to go with this one after reading great reviews about D'angelico. Never heard of this brand but I've been playing for 20 years, never owned a 12-string and wanted something "somewhat" inexpensive to dip my toes into and add to the collection. Upon arrival, the box had virtually no padding, and I was thoroughly shocked the guitar wasn't snapped in two during shipping (more on this later) …
I also noticed the box had been re-taped which made it apparent someone had previously opened it. Figured maybe the warehouse (sweetwater? Mfr?) may have wanted to check the guitar, maybe? The strings had rust, which remember, this guitar was on back order. I was expecting a brand new, fresh from factory guitar. I'm almost led to believe this was somehow a floor model or, at the very least, was taken out of the box and in an environment long enough to cause rusting. Before even playing it, immediately noticed a ~3 inch scratch on the body, which I see every time I play since it is located around the soundhole... I also recently noticed that someone must have tried to remove the scratch, because under the right lighting, you can see hazing where they tried using a compound.
Going back to the poor packaging, I'm not sure if it was the lack of packaging or lack of quality in the build (obviously it is on the cheaper side) but one of the braces inside is separating on one end and you can see slight splintering where the glue pulled up. Not really an issue at the moment but kinda shocked considering I have other acoustics, some literally a fraction of the price of this one and many years older, and they've never had bracing issues. Another issue is the intonation leaves a lot to be desired but I guess you can anticipate that for the price?
At the end of the day, the only real positive thing I can say about this guitar, is how amazing the resonance is. It will ring and ring for as long as you want it to. Knowing the price of this guitar, and all of the negative qualities upon arrival, I was toying with the idea of some upgrades for better sound, but to my surprise, it hasn't needed that. Obviously sound is more important above all else, especially with acoustics, but I still feel like the issues this guitar had/has should have not existed.

Great guitar for the price

By Josh U. from Denver City, TX

It's not quite the sound of a Breedlove but it's definitely a great starter for an intro to the 12 string. My middle son purchased this and has enjoyed playing it so far. Shipping was super fast and Cory over at Sweetwater reached out and made sure any questions or help needed was handled! Will definitely be ordering from here again!

Awesome Product and Service

By John T. from LOUDONVILLE, OH

I was looking for a 12 string to fill a void without breaking the bank. After searching both online and at brick and mortar stores. I came across the beautiful tonal quality 12 string at Sweetwater. The ordering process was simple and Eddie reached out to me directly to let me know if there would happen to be any issues I was to reach out to him directly. The guitar arrived as scheduled and the 24 hour wait for it to acclimate warning on the box was something I had never encountered with any of my other guitar purchases. When I finally opened and strummed the first few cords, I knew I had made a great purchase. The tones from the mahogany body are warm and rich.

Shockingly Great

By John C. from Drums PA
Music Background: 50 years plus player.

Thank you D'Angelico and Sweetwater. THIS is the find I've needed for years. The beauty, the sound, the projection are fantastic. I've played since 1968. Played other 12-strings and loved them. But these days I can't afford much and hoped for the best with this. Woah! Winner. Winner. Chicken Dinner. (sorry Guy Fieri) This might be the best acoustic electric I have ever owned. Someone will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers one day. (sorry Charlton Heston's ghost) .... Get one!

Absolutely love it!

By Richard C. from Breese, IL
Music Background: 50 plus years of playing guitar, recording and writing music.

Like many I expected a 250 dollar guitar to be nice, but nothing special. I was wrong. This D'Angelico 12 string is a beautiful guitar for sure; all mahogany, but the sound is just amazing. Long time since I've played a 12 string and some practice required. All styles of guitars are different and each has a specific use. That said, it didn't take long to start enjoying this guitar. Open chords especially fill the room with a rich, deep sound. I highly recommend this for anyone. And thanks to Ethan Kattau for his help and support, always. I have recommended Sweetwater to my friends and now recommend D'Angelico guitars as well.

At $, buy this ... now!

By Sweetwater Customer

I purchased this about a year and a half ago from Sweetwater as my old 12-string acoustic simply would not stay in tune anymore. Originally being from the east-coast, I was all for giving a shop from Brooklyn (D'Angelico) a shot. I was not disappointed at all and frankly, quite impressed with the quality and sound of this baby either plugged in or not. The tone is full and gets kicked up quite a bit with the phase option activated. I was so impressed, I just bought another D'Angelico from Sweetwater - my first semi-hollow, the Premier DC XT (the blue one) - also another good one to grab for the price (it is reduced as well).

Christmas Present

By Melanie

I bought my son a guitar for Christmas through another company and it was a disaster! He was so disappointed. My husband told me to check out Sweetwater and said the guitars and staff were awesome. Looked around and found out that you can get notified when the item will be back in stock by email which was nice. I found the 12-string he wanted and ordered it. It came by Fed Ex. It was great, the staff at Sweetwater are very personable and helpful. I received texts and updates for the whole thing. When it arrived, they sent a little package, and the same staff member Ryan Miller was to be a personal assist on anything I needed or had questions about. There aren't many places nowadays who still offer the personal assistance anymore. Thank you again Ryan for all of your help! I know that I will only be shopping here from now on.

Great quality and super low price

By Mike L. from Woodstock GA
Music Background: Professional pianist

I always wanted a 12 string guitar but never could justify the high cost because I am primarily a keyboard player but I had to take a chance on this D'angelico and am glad I did. It is a well made instrument that holds its tune and sounds full. Sweetwater actually sent me hi-res photos of my guitar (with the serial #) ahead of time so I could drool as I wait for the delivery! And the candies are always a pleasant surprise.

A really nice guitar for the price!

By Jim H. from North Olmsted OHIO
Music Background: Played guitar professionally years ago (local 4 union) now just play for fun and also play 5 string banjo (Stellng Red Fox)

Been thinking about a 12 string for awhile, had one years ago and did the dumb thing of selling it, just like I did my 335 Gibson and Jaguar Fender..sigh! When I saw this one on line and then stopped in the Ft Wayne store and played it I was convinced....this is a great value. It plays well, stays in tune, electronics are nice as well. I have a Fender strat, Guild studio model from '67 and a nice Yamaha 6 string. The neck on this matches the play ability of the Strat. (BTW if you have not been to THE store....it is a must visit!!! I wish I lived closer....I would work there in a minute) Thanks Greg for helping me with this purchase. You and my regular Candace Irizarry have always been great to work with on my purchases. Now if I can only figure out my DAW software....LOL

Great for the money

By Frank M. from SANDERSVILLE, GA
Music Background: serious hobbyist

I had been looking at getting a 12 acoustic with electronics for direct recording to make things quicker once in a while. I have an older Takamine 12 string that doesn't have electronics, but sounds awesome. I had looked at the D'Angelico for a little while because I thought the features it offered were hard to beat at that price, but also, I thought that visually (that headstock!), it looked classy without being gaudy. I'm so glad I got it. This thing plays fairly easily and sounds wonderful (it IS a 12 string). The satin finish throughout lets the wood grain really show through, and that same finish on the back of the neck? FAST! I have quite a few electric guitars that aren't that quick. As for the electronics, they bring out the natural characteristics of this instrument without any adjustment at all, which for me makes it even better whenever I do want to tweak the EQ. The onboard tuner display is very intuitive as well. I'm so impressed with this thing, I'm seriously considering getting it's 6 string cousin. Many many thanks to Stephen Oppenheim for his continued invaluable assistance on this and just about every purchase I've made from Sweetwater!

Also, a shout out to Sweetwater. You guys are the best!

By Daniel B. from HAMPTON, GA
Music Background: Solo performer for over 30 years.

I was in the market for a 12 string just to change things up a bit, and came across this one. Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking guitar, but it will not stay in tune. I was able to use it one time for one song, for a Live performance. You can start at the top E and by the time you get to the bottom, it's off key. Now it just sits in the case.

Awesome value

By Wayne K. from Winston-Salem, NC
Music Background: been messing around with guitar since the 1970's

I bought the D'Angelico Premier Fulton LS 12-string Acoustic-electric Guitar - Mahogany Satin, because I thought it would be fun to add a 12 string without dropping a ton of cash. Wow, thanks to Sweetwater, setup was spot on, ready to play right out of the box! Quality craftmanship and overall value, it looks, sounds, and plays like a much more expensive guitar. The tuner works great and is a nice built in feature(it does silence the output jack while tuning). Action is great, holds it's tuning well. Bought the matching hard case for it, fits like a glove, nice padding, well built. I am very pleased with my purchase. My son does a solo acoustic act at bars and restaurants 3-4 times a week. He was so impressed with it, we just ordered a second one for him.

By Kevin V. from Richmond VA

What a lovely sounding instrument with and without the amplifier. Music director at church was so happy with me bringing it to Christmas Eve service! Stays in tune surprisingly well. The location of the electronic adjustments is a tad awkward. Great guitar! I'm very happy with it and my six string is getting jealous!

Amazing Piece of Work

By Chandler M. from Maine
Music Background: Played bars in Texas, Colorado, Alaska, and Maine in the 70-80s.

I'm 69 and have been playing since I was 14 with a few years hiatus recently. I haven't played a 12 string in 40 years. Back then unless you could afford top of the line the ones I found sounded great but were hard to play, and that was for someone with rock hard fingers. So, imagine me purchasing this guitar with the soft fingers of a twelve year old and wondering if I would be able to play it. This plays almost as easily as my Ovation six string! And the sound is Amazing. The strings that came with it have a wonderful bass to treble roll but seem to need tuning often. I am hoping this is only the strings as I have another set and am just putting off changing them. I may update this review then. That said, if you are in the market for a really playable 12 string at a super affordable price this axe is for you.

D'Angelico Premier Fulton LS

By John J. from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Music Background: I have played guitar for over thirty years.

This 12-string is amazing for the price and in comparison, to some very expensive models I have played over the years. The tone is pure and resonates beautifully. The neck is very comfortable, and the overall construction of the instrument is impressive. The Satin finish is good looking and easy to keep clean and looking new. I would rate this guitar a ten out of ten!

Tremendous bargain

By JDave from Jacksonville, FL
Music Background: Former pro musician, now hobbyist

I own, and have played a lot of expensive, vintage guitars. So I didn't expect much from this based on price - boy was I wrong. Playability, action, sound, and the pickup system are all GREAT. The chrome hardware does look kind of cheap - but that's the only bad thing I have to say. If you want an acoustic/electric 12 string that doesn't break the bank, this is the guitar for you.

D'Angelo Premier Fulton LS

By Larry D. from Georgia
Music Background: hobbyist musician, song writer, producer, arranger, engineer

I never owned a 12 string, until now!
I compose music, and need certain instruments to play what I'm hearing in my head.
Momma,(my wife),gave me the go ahead on a new guitar. I always look at the least expensive option, as I can't afford the finer new gear.
Turns out, this guitar is nicer than it's price point indicates.
Now this guitar is becoming my main song writing guitar. It articulates picked parts, well, and is a great strummer.

Be assured, you will enjoy playing this 12 string. Extremely playable, and with the electronics, and on board tuner, it was a no brainer.

Now I have only owned one other 12 string over the last 50 years of my playing career. It was a fine guitar and served me well but I never really played it a lot and eventually sold it.

So I narrow my list down to about 3 and figue I'll get Nich on the phone and follow his recommendations. Always safer that way since I can blame Nich if I don't like the Guitar. (That was a joke Nich - You can laugh now I vetted that joke).

So Nich recommends the - D'Angelico Premier Fulton LS - Mahogany Satin. I wasn't real impressed by the looks of the guitar but the reviews seemed fine to I said what the heck let's give it a go.

All I can say is that this was a grand slam home run. There was no way I could have expected a $... guitar to play this well. The action, weight, balance, finish, and playability of tis guitar are what I would have expected in a guitar costing at a minimum $1500.

Now I am not a luthier and I didn't spend the night at a Holiday In Express but none-the-less I am singing (pun intended) this guitars praises.

I was so taken by just how great this guitar is that I am buying a second one as a present for an old and dear friend. This is a friend so important to me that the present wold have to be of the caliber to astound them and I am quite sure this 12 string will do just that.

I could give you all the boring details of the great customers service was along with the packaging and delivery - but I don't want to swell the heads of these guys to much since I will be buying from them quite a bit over the next year at the very least.

If you are in the market for an astounding 12 string you just found - find the buy button quick because I already lost one of these by waiting to make the purchase.

Job well done!

Thanks Nich

D'Angelico Premier Fulton LS 12-String

By David R. from Carolinas
Music Background: Limited on guitar

My first 12 string....I love it! Had heard about the tuning issues of 12-strings, and was frankly worried. Honestly, It holds its tuning as well as my 6-string. No rough edges....No burrs on the frets.....None of what typically becomes issues on less expensive guitars. The only (minor) complaint that I have is that it had no pickguard.

Fulron LS Second Review

By Patrick R. from Poncha Springs, CO

This mahogany 12 string just gets better. May be small but sure is loud. I put it into Open D tuning, my favorite. Suddenly I was [laying new chord and slide combos new to my 62 years of guitar playing. Electronics are solid. Neck is smooth and pleasant to play. Fretboard and action are super as are new strings. Thanks to Nich Magnani and the Crews in 55 Point and Shipping for expediting my order. It got here early!!!

Found a 12 String!!!

By Pat R. from Poncha Springs, CO
Music Background: Retired Musician

My D'Angelico plays so well. Lots of projection and good sustain. Picture perfect mahogany. Super tuning machines, and the electronics bring out the depth and presence without emphasizing any tinny sounds. The tuner and EQ are prime time. I think this will be a full time guitar. It plays well in standard tuning without worry. I tuned it to D tuning. It was perfect for slide and finger style which I learned by watching John Fahey when young. Despite being a laminate, my 12 string just keeps opening up more and more with each playing. I can't keep her out of my hands. Great camp fire guitar! Better give her a name! Special thanks to my Sales Engineer Nich Magnani and all the crew in 55 Point Inspection and in Shipping for expediting my order. It arrived so fast!!!
