PRS Fiore Electric Guitar - Amaryllis with Maple Fingerboard Reviews
From his time with instrumental ensemble Snarky Puppy to countless studio sessions and his acclaimed solo work, Mark Lettieri knows a thing or two about guitars. Amid their constant journey to innovate the electric guitar, PRS decided to tap into Mark's vast experience and knowledge, a collaboration that resulted in the Fiore. Directly developed with Mark, and incorporating many of his preferences, the PRS Fiore (Italian for "flower") marries a stunning new double-cut design with top-notch electronics to produce a road-ready workhorse capable of a wide range of sounds. Bolted onto a maple neck, the Fiore's swamp ash body delivers excellent resonance and sustain, while its silky-smooth maple fingerboard is perfect for playing styles of all kinds. Sweetwater's many PRS loyalists love the newly designed Fiore pickups in the HSS configuration, as well as the universe of tonal potential accessible via its 5-way blade switch and push-pull knobs. For an added personal touch, a custom "Fiore" logo truss rod cover sits at the headstock, which was designed by Mark's mother.

Technically perfect
Other than having to clean some debris out of the nut slots before it would stay in tune, this is the most technically perfectly made guitar I've ever played. The color is amazing in person. I happened to get a sub 7 pounder, which I prefer. There is definitely some magic going on with the ash+maple combo. Such a versatile and great sounding guitar. Positions 2 and 4 don't sound super Stratty but are still good. I love the neck + bridge tone though. Kinda has Gretsch vibes and then punch the tone control for full on neck or bridge pickup tones for lead work. I'm running my tone controls between 5 and 7 most of the time (this thing is bright!) and also use the volume to clean up things. Super versatile, as I said, super light, super resonant, great tones. The neck and trem are exceptionally good. Perfect frets. Not sure what else you would want in an HSS guitar. Singles are kind of modern sounding but the bridge is like a really nice overwound PAF. Great compliment to my SS
Simply inspiring instrument
I've owned my amaryllis Fiore for several weeks now and it has quickly become the guitar I pick up every time I sit down to play. It is a gorgeous finish. Yes, I am a Mark Lettieri fan but this is more than a signature on a pickguard or headstock. I've never owned a PRS before but this is a fine instrument in most every respect. It is an expensive instrument (think two American Professional Strats). Is it worth the premium price? That of course depends on your own situation, but once in my hands, I never really thought about the cost again.
In many respects, this is the super strat I have been looking for. It's single coils and humbucker are very well matched in output and the HB is not too dark as with some other HSS's.
The neck and fingerboard are very well executed and I like the slightly flatter non-compound radius. The two point trem works very well although I removed one of the four trem springs as it was much too stiff out of the box. I also wrapped the trem springs with vinyl tubing as they were not damped and resonated pretty badly.
You probably know that the pickup selection scheme offers several options by means of push-pull switches on the two tone pots. I personally don't find the non-standard settings all that useful but another player may.
In summary, I am delighted with this instrument and will be taking it to its first gig shortly.
Future purchase FOR SURE!
Gentlemen, I've played PRS guitars for many years and never liked them. It was a feel thing for me. The bride pickup on a PRS with distortion is where its at, but I never felt a connection with them…until now. I played the Fiore at my local music store and feel in love. Balanced? Yes! And surprisingly this guitar is very light. And about the gig bag, I understand. Suhr does the same thing. The only thing I wish ALL PRS guitars had were stainless steel frets. But Mark Lettieri doesn't like SS on his frets (see IG post attached)
I love them so much I now own two
Tonal possibilities are astounding. It feels as good as it sounds. It's the most balanced guitar I've ever played. It'll strat, it'll tele, it'll Paul.
As for the gig bag I can say I, and many many many others, prefer the gig bag. It's the same bag as the Silver Sky. These are guitars designed for working musicians. Many of whom prefer gig bags over cases. I'm one of the.
PRS Fiore
Just bought a Fiore used. The owner bought it from Sweetwater. I really love this guitar. After 35 PRS Guitars that I owned I have to confess that this one is my FAVORITE model. Always wanting a Strat style guitar from PRS with a humbucker in the bridge position. Sounds simple, but in most cases it doesn't work quite well in terms of balance between the pickups. The Fiore has two great sounding single coils that keep up with everything Fender you know. The bridge pickup is simply awesome and easily the best PRS pick I have used. Not too gainy, it balances very well with the single coils without leaving you unsatisfied like most Superstrats do. The bridge pickup reminds me a lot of early Van Halen. It is articulate yet warm with a very nice midrange you have to encounter yourself. The finish seems to be very thin nitrocellulose coating and it will age quickly. This is a guitar you can take anywhere for gigs, sessions and fun and you don't have to worry about whether it is getting a ding or scratch. Just like the Pre CBS Fenders were. The construction is very robust and you can put the guitar on the floor without the fear of breaking the headstock!!! The neck is the best PRS neck I have played and easily beats every Strat neck I played, be it Fender Custom Shop, Xotic and Suhr. It is almost as full in my hands on the lowest frets as it is all the way up the neck. Norm from Norman's Rare Guitars always favored this type of neck on select vintage Gibson and Fenders. No compound radius needed. The guitar plays with very little effort and it is hard to put down. The tremolo is a non brainer and works, while a little different with only two instead of 6 screws to the normal PRS/Manmade tremolo. Gets very addictive to play. Why didn't PRS come up with a guitar like that before? They would have sold quite a few of them.
The guitar that fills the void
I have a few humbucker (HH) loaded guitars and was looking to get a guitar that would fill the "single coil" void. I tried a few other guitars with SSS/HSS type configurations however, the tones I got from them were less than desirable. I decided to order the PRS Fiore sight unseen as I have a few other quality PRS instruments myself. I'll tell you, this guitar definitely surpassed my tonal expectations. I can see why this guitar is Mark Lettieri's new "go to": it can get nice cleans, solid overdriven humbucker tones with the bridge pickup and everything in between. This guitar is also great with those notorious, percussive type tones heard on countless funk tracks. This one's a keeper.
Forrest Powell and Dan P. did a very nice job at accommodating my request for a guitar setup and performed great final QC before delivery. Thank you Sweetwater for a great product and awesome service.
Did Not Expect This....
I bought one new after reading the reviews but was skeptical--how different could this be?
-I have a couple Strats already, so I figured It would be one I didn't keep very long.
WOW-what a great, versatile guitar-plays fantastic and some of the different pickup combinations are subtle, but not too subtle that you can still hear the different tones when switching. The finish is great and the swamp ash grain on mine is outstanding!
It's a keeper now and I'm thinking about another in a different finish..Sunflower maybe?
A Keeper in a cheap gig bag
I totally agree with the previous reviewer's take on the tonal possibilities of of this guitar. I have two other PRS guitars and the neck on this one is by far my favorite. It really plays great and I love the variety of clean and "funk" tones to be had. This guitar is a keeper that I will use for both recordings and gigs.
The reason for only 4 stars? PRS seems to take delight in insulting their customers with very cheaply made, unprotective gig bag for a premium $ guitar. I don't get why they are so cheap to not include a hard case with a premium guitar. I have a number of expensive guitars from different guitar makers and no one but PRS has the audacity to ship their guitars in cheap gig bags. So, if you want to protect the guitar in a plush, sturdy hard case, you'll have to add another $ to your purchase. For me, that sucks.
My thanks to Gary Johnson
I was about to order the Fiore, in Red, when I happened to see Gary's review.
It comes in a gig bag! That's absurd for a $2500 guitar, and a deal-breaker for me.
I decided not to order it.
