So far, so good

By Tony G. from Arizona
Music Background: Lifetime performing musician

Still working with it, looking for a "sound" from the clean channel...I'm sure I'll find it with time. The drive channel is Boogie good, far outshines my previous amplifier. Have played one show with it and was satisfied with its performance.
As usual, Sweetwater and Cameron Green gave me great service as well as a "sweet" price. (Cam will know what I mean)
Thank you!!

The All-Arounder You Didn't Think You Needed!

By Jason from Chattanooga, TN
Music Background: Classic and modern rock

I originally bought a California Tweed because I thought I would love it, and I simply didn't. I never really gave the Fillmore a shot even though I had read about it for years and when I decided to send back the CT for the Fillmore, that was the best move I could've made. In a few short weeks, I've found the Fillmore to be far more versatile than I expected and, quite frankly, having the two identical channels isn't the gimmick that many make it out to be. I never realized that it was exactly what I needed. Sparkling cleans, dirty overdrive and it can even be pushed into some decent lower-end distortion levels all with easy to use controls and a decent spring reverb system that's adjustable individually for both channels! Again, never thought something like this would've been what I was looking for but I'm glad I have it now! If you're looking for high gain, you won't find it with the Fillmore, but it DOES take pedals well so you could always run something to push the gain up if you wanted to. But I feel the Fillmore is best pushing clean tones as well as gritty overdrive and lighter distortion. It'll run any of those tones just fine and I find it to be a great partner with my MKV!

Perfect For Me!

By Tom L. from Roseville, CA
Music Background: Guitar Teacher, various bands

After fighting with my Mark V 35 for a long time, along with other Mesas over the years, I am finally at peace with this Fillmore 50 head and matching 23" open back cab. I also use a closed back, front ported mesa cab along side the rig. Good match and sounds awesome. ;-) I liked the Fillmore 25 a lot and still might add one to my collection, but it wasn't quite loud enough for me. I really wanted to go Fender but I have had too many problems with them in recent years, in and out of shops for repairs. Mesa Boogies don't do that. They are built like tanks. Cheap is expensive as they say. I play classic rock, blues, jazz, pop, all kinds of stuff and it sounds great with all of that. I also ditched my pedal board. Haven't needed it at all. Try the Fillmore 50. It's pretty awesome. I play American Strats and Gibson Les Pauls.

Great versatile amp from Mesa Boogie

By JFGuitar from CA
Music Background: semi-pro/advanced hobbiest musician, multi instrumental

If you're a classic rocker or country/modern country player, this is an excellent choice for an amp. It's capable of Fendery clean and tweedish sounds, Marshall-esqe tones, and Mesa type high gain with the caveat that it doesn't really do the rectifier type mesa gain or super high gain. I also REALLY like that on this particular model, the reverb knobs are on the front panel, while on the 25 watt Fillmore, those are on the back panel (I hate that.) Channel and Reverb are footswitchable and the channel switch is included with the amp. I don't really understand why they don't include the reverb switch, but it's an add on and that's annoying, especially at the price point! It's not a great amp for playing modern heavy metal, but could get it done with a booster, overdrive, or distortion feeding it in the high gain mode to add some more gain. I love that it has two identical channels you can set up, and the mode switches to pick the mode for each. (Clean, Drive and High Gain)

It has an effects loop. I wish that was footswitchable, but it's not, but you can certainly rig an a/b pedal so that A is a straight through (nothing in the loop) and B is the loop effects, then just switch between them. Or two different sets of effects in the loop that way too. If you like an EQ or a certain effect like a delay always in the loop, and always on, it doesn't matter much, put it in the loop and leave it there, and foot switch it from the pedal itself if you need to.

It doesn't have fancy extras like a DI/Cab Clone, or midi functionality, or more sophisticated foot switching. But, it also doesn't weigh as much as a lot of other boogies, and it's simple to dial in and get great tones.

Overall a great amp. Better deals are available used and the new ones are getting a bit insane on the pricing. Check Reverb, ebay, craigslist and the sweetwater used gear marketplace for these before you buy new.

I particularly like this amp with a few different speaker/cab combinations:
- With a cabinet with a C90 open back and EVM-12L closed back or EVM12-L thiele...it sounds huge.
- A 2x10 tremolux closed back loaded with Eminence 10516's (the 16 ohm version of 1058's) sounds really great.
- With a Lone star-23 cabinet loaded with a Tone Tubby purple haze (25 watt tubes in amp) - does great tweedy stuff
- Another good 1x12 option with this amp is either the Eminence Legend 1275, or the Eminence Allesandro GA-64. Those two speakers sound very, very similar...so similar I wonder if the 1275 was the basis for the GA. These are great choices for a non-alnico magnet speaker in the 12" size. But don't overlook that 2x10 option I mentioned. It's really good.
- In 25watt mode I like it into a 2x12 with a pair of Celestion EVM's. (40 watt cab) or in 50 watt mode, into a 4x12 loaded with those same EVMs (80 watt cab)
- Any of the Mesa cabinets with a C90 in them are a decent choice with this amp.
- Surprisingly, I don't love the jensen blackbird 100 with this, despite it being my favorite speaker with a Mark V. I thought it would be great since they use it with the California tweed which, like this amp, is based on the fender tweed circuits.
It can sound quite fendery through jensen speakers like those found in Fender reissue "reverb" amps. (deluxe, pro, Twin, super, etc.)

Sweet sounding amp!

By Sweetwater Customer

The Fillmore has an incredibly sweet voicing. I really love the amp. Especially the HI setting and the clean setting with the gain set to where it just breaks up when you dig in! Fantastic!

Mesa got it right!!

By Bruce T. from New Mexico
Music Background: Various genras

I'm amazed!!!

By far the best guitar amp I have ever owned!..and I've been through many. Able to bring out the full Marshall british tones while switching to American Fender tones in a flip of the switch. 20 watts to 50 watts. Brings out the glorious tube tones and harmonics. rich highs with tight lows! Dual reverb channels. Clone channel etc.

I am so impressed!!! I was eyeing this for a long time. I wish I would had purchased this earlier. It's an amazing amp. I have nothing bad to say about it other than I wish it had a solo boost like some Mesa's do. If it had that, then it would be a MORE PERFECT amp.

Best sounding amp I ever had

By Dave from Illinois
Music Background: 40 years as a weekend warrior.

My wife bought me this amp after my fender hot rod broke down for the second time. I had been looking at these for a couple of years telling her that I wanted one for my next amp. I have three 112 cabinets loaded with different speakers. A creamback, a Texas heat, and a cannabis rex. All three have different tonal capabilities but this amp makes any of them sound excellent. The amp seems to be much quieter than the hotrod deluxe, but still plenty loud enough. Tone capabilities of this amp are virtually unlimited. Very versatile, excellent clean, very fender like. Set channel one to clean, using overdrive pedal for mild overdrive.set second channel to high gain for rockier sounds. Absolutely love it.

Killer amp!

By Rob from Texas
Music Background: Professional Guitarist

Picked one up and I'm very impressed. I've played high gain amps most of my life (Diezel, EVH, Rectifiers etc) but I wanted something with more of a voice, the Fillmore delivers. It's punchy, articulate and handles beautiful cleans all the way to raspy classic rock. Takes pedals very well, really well voiced amp. Boogie did a good thing with this one

Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50

By Sweetwater Customer

I purchased a Fillmore 50 after much reading and listening online I got the 50 watt head put it on a 112 cabinet and at first I was a little bit disappointed at the output. I owned f50 Mark 3s I even had a 100 watt lone Star. It didn't sound like 50 w boogie to me so it sat in my studio and I really didn't use it that much I thought it just looked good. How do you have for approximately 8 months It was a demo floor model Don't know how much they used it I turned it on one day no reverb either channel I tried hooking up a foot switch which I never used nothing So I found a boogie repairman about 58 mi from my house He said he knew right what it was took care of the issue Now what I thought was just no reverb might have had something to do with the output I got it back I left it on the settings and repair man had and all I got to say is wow! I sat down and worked with this amp for about 3 hours I love it I believe there was problem from the start. Anyway I'm digging my 50 watt Fillmore I've been playing for 45 years so it's not my first rodeo I highly recommend this amp. I was thinking of taking it back and getting the hundred watter But this thing rocks It's plenty for what I do

Just AMAZING

By Kiper from saraland, AL
Music Background: Home Player

The clean channel is just amazing. Very ambient and 3D feeling. I've owned markIV, Express, 50 cal, triple crowns and many other brand tube amps. The cleans are just amazing. The ability to have a second channel for some crunch is just the cherry on top. Running through a 2x12

No EQs etc. Just simple to dial in.

If you are thinking about buying this amp, don't hesitate. The hype is real. Probably the best bang for your buck.

Fender clean to marshal crunch. If you need more metal tones...add a pedal.

Mesa knocked it out of the Park.

Extremely versatile amp. I would highly recommend it.

Fillmore 50? Yes, but...

By Nehru K. from staten island, NY

The Fillmore 50 is a nice amp in the Mesa tradition but whether or not it works for you depends on the type of music you play. The Fillmore excels at clean and crunch tones. I was able to dial in some really sweet clean tones that worked quite well with Strymon or Source Audio pedals and without them. The lack of a built-in 5-band equalizer was not a problem either. The treble, mid. bass, gain & presence controls did a great job of shaping my tone. The Fillmore 50 also delivers good crunch tones. However, if you're into playing "heavier" music styles like hard rock, metal or even heavier electric blues, then this may not be the amp for you. You may find the Fillmore lacking in the overdrive "department" as it doesn't produce the grit, bite or snarling gain tones found in the Mesa Mark V-series amps. But in all fairness, I don't think the Fillmore was designed for that purpose. Its tonality is more "tame" and would work well if you play jazz, smooth jazz, R&B, funk, country, pop, Bossa nova, soca, praise, soft rock, etc.

My very unscientific side-by-side comparison between the Fillmore 50-watt and Mark V 35-watt led me to conclude that the Mark V is more versatile and generates tones for all the music styles previously mentioned. I also noticed that the Mark V seemed to output more volume than the Fillmore! When practicing at home at 35-watts, I never set the Mark V Master Volume control past the 8 o'clock position so as not to disturb my neighbors. But with the Fillmore at 50-watts I was able to play at 9 o'clock and slightly beyond with no problem. I'm no techie, and can only speculate that the Mark V's four EL84 power tubes generate more volume than the Fillmore's two 6L6 power tubes. My conclusion is both are very nice-sounding Mesa amps, but the Mark V is the winner in terms of tonal versatility and power.

Exactly What I Needed

By Sweetwater Customer

This is one great amp. Cleans, pushed cleans and crunch tones (not metal) are all there. I have two small boutique amps that in my opinion go after the D-tone very successfully and this amp can be dialed in to be a bigger brother to them. The two identical channels is such a great feature as you can dial in a variation without much hassle.

Mesa Fillmore 50 Head

By John from Santa Cruz, CA
Music Background: Older experienced musician

I took the plunge recently and purchased the Mesa Fillmore 50 Head with a 1x12 extension cabinet. It was delivered promptly and followed up on by my engineering tech (Robby Resnick) at Sweetwater (always the best customer service). The amp is perfectly sized for my bedroom / music room and the 25W setting is perfect for a home environment. I like to play clean and allow the harmonic overtones to help shape my music. This amplifier provides harmonic content galore and I couldn't be happier. I'm still getting used to the subtlety of the settings and look forward to countless hours of exploration ahead. Thanks to the Sweetwater team for making my dream a reality!

Mesa Fillmore Rocks !!

By Chuck J. from Shreveport, LA
Music Background: Classic rock / R&B

This is a great amp !! I've owned many amps thru the years, mainly Fenders and Boogies - this amp has the sound I've been looking for - very pedal friendly, great clean sounds and nice overdriven sound on its own but really shines with my 808 screamer and king of tone - As always great service from Sweetwater and Ike's Taylor is the best !!

Old school Fender perfection + Mesa hand wired quality

By SAM from GA
Music Background: 30+ year working guitarist

Best amp ever. Been playing electric guitars since 1982 and owned countless tube amps, new, vintage, and reissues. This plays better than the best of them but is brand new with legendary Mesa hand wired quality. If you are a fan of Fender amps, anything from tweed to blackface, and are in it for tone rather than just bragging about how cool roadworn your vintage fender looks, then this should be all you ever need from now on. It has the feel & tone of the best of them. I'm done buying amps for life. I'm not exaggerating. Its really that good. Its not aimed at the Dual Rec or Mark fans. Its aimed at vintage Fender fans, and hits us right between the eyes.

The last amp you'll ever need!

By Sweetwater Customer from USA
Music Background: Rock, blues

This is the best sounding most versatile amp I've ever played! I've been playing guitar for 23 years and in that time I've had many nice amps. But this is the one. The holy grail of Tone.

Amps I've owned:
Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue
Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb
Fender Blues Jr
Fender Hot Rod Deville
Fender Bassbreaker 15
Fender Supersonic 22
Marshall DSL 100
Marshall JCM900
Orange Rocker 30
Orange Rockerverb 50
Orange Tiny Terror
Friedman PT20
Friedman Runt 50
Mesa Dual Rectifier
Mesa Rectoverb 25
Mesa Roadster
Mesa DC5
Mesa F50
Mesa stiletto
Mesa Electra Dyne
Mesa Mark V
Mesa Mark V35
Mesa TC50

The Fillmore is based off of a tweed circuit. It can conjure black face as well as marshall/ classic boogie lead tones as well. It takes pedals including overdrives extremely well. Better than anything else I've experienced. The reverb is beautiful. The loop is perfect. There is so much versatility to be had. The overall tone is warm, full, and with a nice clear top end chime. Don't expect metal without a boost. But with a clean boost, this thing sounds plenty saturated for high gain metal, though the gain is not super tight on i'ts own. But a clean boost tightens it up. I am using the matching 1x12 Cab but plan to get the matching 2x12 Cab for a bigger sound.

The modes to my ears:

Clean: black face with gain below 12 and mids and treble up. Over 12 on the gain it's tweed land. FAT and Chewy yet clear. The amp overall has a very forgiving and loose feel.

Drive: like adding a tubescreamer to clean, but less mids. Great bluesy tones live here.

Hi: warm and creamy and fat overdrive. Marshall meets mesa.

The amp is the most touch sensitive amp I've ever played. It really reacts to your attack and dynamics.

Now the only reason I'd sell this would be to get the Fillmore 100! (El 34 or 6l6 option, solo volumes, tremolo, multi soak attenuater per channel) are you listening mesa!?

Mesa Fillmore 50 Head

By DB from OK
Music Background: Love playing

I"ll Start by saying this is a very good honest musical sounding amp,
the break up is nicely balanced organic and keeps the character of your pickups and guitar
You can hear a driven and clean tone at the same time, wonderful for rhythm or solo.
I haven"t explored the hi drive switch yet, because I"ve been savoring the clean and crunch
selections, I tried a few pedals through Channel one, namely a mad professor Twimble, a A Timmons
drive and D & M Drive they sounded great for lead work, blues rock etc , the clean is clean and musical.
to be honest both channels sound delicious enough without any pedals,
I don"t like too much reverb just subtle amounts, sounds very nice, haven"t tried the loop yet.
I"ve tried many boutique amps , I"m enamoured with this Fillmore amp it sings beautifully.
I"ve steered away from too much saturation, it colors the the musicality of what you"re playing.
In contrast, I do like hi gain as long as it sounds musical and not muddy or scratchy.
I think this is one of the best amps Mesa has put out for a long time.
It inspires me to play , I"m sure it can give more gain if you need it , it"s a very versatile amp.
The voicing on this amp , is just right , beautiful cleans, great crunch , more than enough gain ,
Two identical channels, less is very much more !!!! Thanks Mesa Boogie for creating a superb
Musical amplifier. and thank you Sweetwater , especially Bart .
