Gibson Falcon 20 12-watt 1 x 12-inch Tube Combo Amplifier Reviews

12W, 1-channel 1 x 12" Tube Combo Amplifier with Reverb, Tremolo, Monitor DI Out, and Power Scaling

Returning to rule the roost after over a half-century on the sidelines, the Gibson Falcon 20 12-watt 1 x 12-inch combo amplifier represents a modern reimagining of an all-time Gibson tube combo classic. This forward-thinking Falcon combo blends the best of old and new with a little help from Randall Smith and the brilliant engineers at Mesa/Boogie’s Design Team, who proudly hand-wire every model in sunny Petaluma, California. All the original Falcon’s most favored features are here in full force, including a rock-solid single-channel operation, old-school Class A push-pull design, and cathode-biased power section to preserve the gritty magic of the original. Plus, the Falcon 20’s 3-position power-scaling and enhanced tone-shaping controls prove this bird has more than a few modernized tricks under its wings! Did we mention the fully tube-powered spring reverb and tremolo sections? All wrapped up in a glorious period-inspired cab, the Gibson Falcon 20 amplifier nails one of the most challenging feats in the 6-string realm — improving upon a time-honored classic while perfectly preserving the magic of the original.

OMG !!!!

By Sweetwater Customer on March 3, 2024

I played this amp next to a few of my all time favorites and I was in shock that it sounded better. I don't know what's going on with Gibson, but for the past few years they are breaking the mold for sure. If you're considering a fender twin or deluxe reverb, you may want to play one of these before you buy. I couldn't believe how good this was.

Gibson Falcon amps very nice sounds

Very nice sounding amp, sound is forward in the speakers. The 20 watt amp if miked is good in most clubs and recording.

Great amp in a small package

By Wayne C on January 29, 2024 Music Background: Semi Pro

The amp is described as hand wired, don't let this mislead you as to an amp that is point to point wired. There are several pcb boards inside the amp that may have a minimum amount of hand wiring but definitely not point to point. Overall the amp does a very good job, just don't know how it will hold up. I plan on changingout the 6v6 tubes with 6L6 tubes which will bump up the output by 3 watts if neede.

Nice amp, one flaw

By Jeff from CT on January 23, 2024

First, I'll say that it's a very nice sounding amp. I haven't cranked it, but at low levels it's really warm and lush. The reverb and trem are fantastic. An amazing amp in a small and manageable package.

The only flaw I can see is that it has a fan. Nowhere in the sales literature, manual, schematics, or YouTube reviews is a fan mentioned. It's very noticeable and can't be disabled. I think if you play in a loud-ish environment and have the amp cranked, this isn't an issue. However, if you're looking to use it for home use and want to play it at conversation levels, it will be very present.
