Another Great Guitar from Godin
I have two other guitars made by this great Canadian builder, a "Fifth Avenue Kingpin," their flagship single pickup archtop, which I acquired shortly after they came out about 15 year ago, and the Woodland Pro Folk (Simon & Patrick), a beautifully finished solid spruce and mahogany 00 style which I have had for about ten years. I have nothing but praise for these guitars. They look, play and sound great. The Woodland Pro Folk is, unfortunately, out of production.
The Fairmount Composer is another great guitar from Godin. This guitar sounds wonderful when fingerpicking or using a flat pick. It plays very comfortably, and felt natural from the first time I picked it up. The sound is described elsewhere as sweet and I agree, but you can get it to growl a little too. I have played a number of Martin small body mahogany guitars and I think the Fairmount absolutely competes with those, with the added benefit of being a little more attractive. (It is a little heavier, however, I think in part due to the excellent on-board electronics). I once tried out a couple of the imported Guild M-120s (another small body all-mahogany instrument) and they just didn't have the sweetness of the Fairmount.
Of course, with acoustics, everything depends on the set up. I decided to have Sweetwater set this up for me before they shipped it and I am very pleased with the result. Worth the money and the wait. And, thanks to my sales engineer, Dillon Robbins, who helped me out quite a bit.
Nothing but praise for this guitar.
Better than most all-mahogany guitars
This guitar is a diamond in the rough. The first time I played one, I had played a few Martins, Taylor's, and Gibson guitars and decided to give this one a try, and man was there something sweet about its sound. It's very articulate and pronounced. I have Martin Retro strings on mine, and it sounds better than most high end Martins and Taylor's that I have played. You won't be disappointed.
Incredible Value
Great quality, playability, and sound. My only negative is the string height was a bit high but deepening the slots in the nut fixed that. Did I say the sound was fantastic, it is.
Fantastic Mahogany 000 A/E
WOW! How fantastic Godin guitars are. I have owned an A6 (should have kept it), A12, and now this Fairmount CH Composer QIT. Each of these remarkable guitars came beautifully crafted from Quebec, Canada. Like every guitar I've owned, they need set up by a luthier to play beautifully. However, the Godin guitars are really nice out of the box. This Fairmount CH Composer is just immaculate. Everything is perfect. I love the satin finish. The neck feels great. The fretboard is perfect. I was planning on replacing the tuning machines, but after getting the guitar, I've found the tuners are great. I have owned several other all mahogany guitars, a Martin 0015 and a Breedlove... this Godin is better in my opinion than the others. It looks and sounds so sweet. This is my last mahogany a/e guitar. It's the keeper. AND I have to give a shout out to my salesman/friend Ben Porter who always has time for my questions, and gets me the gear I order amazingly fast. Thank you Ben. AND for the first time, I used Sweetwater's luthier to set up the guitar before it shipped to me. WOW! The set up is perfect!! Well worth the extra money. THANK YOU Sweetwater luthier. All in all I am way over satisfied with this purchase (also got the SKB 000 case). This is a beautiful to look at and so wonderful to play guitar. The electronics are perfect. Godin guitars are the greatest.
